ABSTRACT

The selection of relatively high and stable yielding genotypes is key in wheat breeding programs to improve yield performance under heat and drought-stressed environments. This study determined grain yield response and stability among elite heat and drought tolerant bread wheat genotypes under simulated drought-stressed (DS) and non-stressed (NS) environments to select promising parents for breeding. Twenty-four elite bread wheat genotypes selected from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) drought and heat tolerant nursery were assessed under NS and DS conditions using a 7?×?4 alpha-lattice design under rainout shelter (RS) and glasshouse (GH) environments. Grain yield data was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), the additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and genotype and genotype-by-environment (GGE) biplot analyses. ANOVA and AMMI revealed highly significant (p?≤?0.001) differences among test genotypes (G), environments (E) and G?×?E interaction effects suggesting differential responses for selection. The GGE biplot explained 83.76% of total variation and aided in selection of high-yielding and stable heat and drought tolerant wheat genotypes such as LM13, LM22, LM95 and LM100. These selections are recommended for breeding for yield gains under heat and drought-stressed environments.  相似文献

To evaluate the response of some selected wheat cultivars to silicon application at different growth stages under drought stress, an experiment was carried out in the greenhouse of College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, Iran, during 2012 using a completely randomized factorial design with four replications. Experimental treatments included drought stress (100% F.C. as control and 40% F.C. as drought) and foliar application of 6 mM sodium silicate (control, application at mid tillering stage, at anthesis stage, and application at tillering + anthesis stages) and wheat cultivars (Sirvan and Chamran, relatively drought-tolerant, and Shiraz and Marvdasht, drought-sensitive cultivars). Drought stress significantly reduced chlorophyll content, leaf area, relative water content, grains per spike, 1000-grain weight, grain yield and biomass of all wheat cultivars. Furthermore, drought stress increased electrolyte leakage of the flag leaves of all cultivars. In contrast, foliar-applied silicon significantly increased these parameters and reduced electrolyte leakage. Furthermore, highest positive influence of silicon application was observed at combined use of silicon both at the tillering + anthesis stages in wheat plants under both stress and non-stress conditions. Significant differences were found in physiological responses among wheat cultivars. The drought tolerant cultivars (Sirvan and Chamran) had significantly higher growth and yield than those of drought sensitive cvs. Shiraz and Marvdasht under drought stress. In conclusion, foliar application of silicon especially at the tillering + anthesis stages was very effective in promoting resistance in wheat plants to drought conditions by maintaining cellular membrane integrity and relative water content, and increasing chlorophyll content.  相似文献

In a wetland ecosystem such as lowland ricefields, the anaerobic mineralization of organic matter is a key mechanism for nutrient recycling (Jørgensen 1982; Freney et al. 1982). In the process which involves several bacterial groups, sulfate reducers (Watanabe and Furusaka 1980; Widdel 1988; Ouattara and Jacq 1992; Nozoe 1997), methanogens (Asakawa and Hayano 1995; Dianou et al. 1997), sulfur and ferric ion reducers (Jacq et al. 1991) become active when the soil becomes anoxic (Amstrong 1969). Sulfate reducers are common in flooded soils (Watanabe and Furusaka 1980; Widdel 1988; Furusaka et al. 1991). Reported densities in rice soils ranged from 103 to 105 g-1 dry soils in Asia (Watanabe and Furusaka 1980) and from 102 to 109 g-1 dry soil in Sénégal (Ouattara and Jacq 1992). Among the sulfate reducers, the “classical” Desulfovibrio species are known to oxidize typical fermentation products such as hydrogen, lactate, pyruvate, and dicarboxylic acids (Widdel 1988). So far, data on the isolation and characterization of sulfate-reducing bacterial (SRB) strains from African rice paddy field soils study have been very limited.  相似文献

Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli constitute a subset of serotypes (E. coli O157 and some other serogroups) of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli firmly associated with severe human illnesses like bloody diarrhoea and haemolytic uraemic syndrome. Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a zoonotic pathogen. They rarely cause disease in animals, live in the intestines of healthy sheep and ruminants are recognized as their main natural reservoir, so they can contaminate meat during slaughtering practices. The purpose of this study was epidemiological survey on the occurrence of E. coli O157:H7 in healthy sheep in Shiraz-Iran. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assay was developed to detect the Stx2 gene the only bacterial factor that has been associated with more severe disease. During a period of 7 months (December 2005 to June 2006), 153 slaughtered sheep at Shiraz slaughterhouse, were randomly selected and examined for surface carriage of E. coli O157:H7 by conventional plating and Stx2 gene detection by PCR technique. E. coli O157:H7 was found in 6(3.92%) of 153 sheep. The bacteria were isolated from 5(3.34%) of 114 and 1(2.63%) of 38 sheep two or under two and more than 2 years old, respectively (p = 0.5). The contamination rate might vary depending on season, age and infection time. The higher frequency for younger animals may be due to differences in the composition of the gastrointestinal flora resulting from differences in diet. This is the first report of the presence of E. coli O157:H7 in sheep from Iran.  相似文献

Frozen par-fries were processed in January, February, and March using BelRus and Russet Burbank potatoes which were obtained from the same source and held under the same storage conditions. At each processing date, total solids of the raw tissue were determined and the par-fries were analyzed for fat content. Samples were finish-fried and presented to panels for evaluation of sensory qualities. The color, flavor, and textural properties of frozen French fries prepared from BelRus potatoes, which were considerably higher in total solids content and absorbed less vegetable oil, were significantly preferred by sensory panels to French fries processed from Russet Burbank potatoes.  相似文献

The proximate composition and glycoalkaloid content of a dried potato by-product meal (tater meal) and two dried potato pulp meals (potato meal and potato meal plus 10% molasses) were determined. All three feeds demonstrated variable compositions: the tater meal averaged 8.7% moisture, 9.1% crude protein, 5.4% ether extract, 5.0% crude fiber, 4.1% ash and 56.8% nitrogen-free extract; the potato meal averaged 14.5% moisture, 6.0% crude protein, 0.5% ether extract, 9.5% crude fiber, 2.2% ash and 57.1% nitrogen-free extract; the potato meal plus 10% molasses averaged 15.3% moisture, 6.4% crude protein, 0.3% ether extract, 8.0% crude fiber, 2.6% ash and 57.8% nitrogen-free extract. The phosphorus concentration was determined to be approximately 0.2% for the three samples. Other minerals were found in lesser concentrations. The riboflavin and thiamine concentrations of the three potato meals were less than 10% of the values reported for raw potato pulp and peel. The niacin concentration was approximately 40% of the values reported for raw potato pulp and peel. Tater meal contained 11.5 mg a-chaconine and 6.5 mg α-solanine per 100g meal. Analysis of potato meal gave 15.8 mg α-chaconine and 7.8 mg α-solanine per 100g meal while the potato meal plus 10% molasses was found to contain 13.2 mg α-chaconine and 7.3 mg α-solanine per l00g meal.  相似文献
