A new candidate systemic rice blasticide, SSF126, dose-dependently inhibited NADH oxidation by submitochondrial particles from rice roots. However, oxidation by the root submitochondrial particles was much less susceptible to SSF126 compared to that by submitochondrial particles from mycelial cells ofPyricularia grisea, a pathogen causing rice blast. Interestingly, SSF126 did not completely suppress the respiration by intact rice roots, and the respiratory activity of the roots recovered from inhibition time-dependently even in the presence of SSF126 at concentrations sufficient to fully block oxidation by the submitochondrial particles. This recovery was not due to selective extrusion of SSF126 from the roots, but to switching from the cytochrome pathway to the alternative cyanide-resistant respiratory pathway. In immunoblots of the alternative oxidase, high molecular mass species were detected in the mitochondria from rice roots in addition to low molecular mass species. Quantification of high and low molecular mass species revealed an increase in the amount of a protein corresponding to a 36-kDa species equivalent to a decrease in the amount of a protein corresponding to a 72-kDa species following a 5-h incubation with SSF126. This conversion of the alternative oxidase to the low molecular mass species in the mitochondria was correlated with the respiratory recovery found in intact rice roots, suggesting that the low molecular mass species is the active form of the alternative oxidase and the high molecular mass species is the inactive form. These results suggest that rice plants can block the severe injury caused by limiting the cytochrome pathway by SSF126 through utilization of the alternative pathway promoted by the interconversion of the alternative oxidase protein. 相似文献

Compounds in mulberry leaves inducing sporulation of C. dematium, mulberry anthracnose fungus, were detected. Dissolved or suspended aqueous solutions (1%) of 16 amino acids and 10 vitamins
occurring in mulberry leaves were applied individually at the margin of the fungal colony growing on PSA plate. Sporulation
was induced only where a biotin solution was applied on the mycelium at a concentration of at least 0.01 ppm. This result
suggests that biotin, which occurs in mulberry leaves (ca. 0.6 mg/kg of dried leaves), has a role in inducing sporulation of C. dematium.

Retention behavior of size and aluminum components on handsheets in rosin-ester size/alum systems 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Anionic emulsion sizes consisting of rosin triglyceride esters and partly fortified rosin acids (i.e., rosin-ester sizes), have recently been used as internal sizes for alkaline papermaking. In this study, handsheets were prepared from pulp suspensions with alum and a rosin-ester size under various conditions, and sizing degree and size and aluminum contents of the handsheets were determined. Aluminum compounds originating from alum added to the pulp suspensions behave as retention aids of the rosin-ester size even in alkaline papermaking under limited conditions. Carboxyl groups in pulp are the primary retention sites of aluminum compounds in pulp suspensions. They form cationic sites on pulp fibers, and thus the anionic size emulsion particles are adsorbed on pulp fibers by electrostatic interactions. However, the cationic charges of aluminum compounds on pulp fibers decrease and finally disappear completely with the lapse of time after the alum addition by forming ionic bonds between the cationic sites and OH– ions. Thus, pH values of the pulp suspensions and timing of the size addition strongly influence the retention values of the rosin-ester size and the resultant sizing features.This research was presented in part at the 1995 autumn meetings of the Society of Fiber Science and Technology Japan in Hamamatsu, October 1995 相似文献

The genetic architecture of organ weights is not well understood. In this study, we fine‐mapped quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting organ weights by characterizing six intersubspecific subcongenic mouse strains with overlapping and non‐overlapping genomic regions on chromosome 2 derived from wild Mus musculus castaneus. QTLs for heart, lung, spleen and kidney weights were revealed on a 6.38‐Mb genomic region between two microsatellite markers, D2Mit323 and D2Mit472. Effects of the castaneus alleles at the organ weight QTLs were all opposite in direction to a body weight QTL previously mapped to the same genomic region. In addition, new QTLs for lung and kidney weights were revealed on a different 3.57‐Mb region between D2Mit205 and D2Mit182. Their effects were dependent on that of another body weight QTL previously mapped to that genomic region. The organ weight QTLs revealed were all duplicated in independent analyses with F2 intercross populations between subcongenic strains carrying these QTLs and their background strain. The findings suggested that organ weights are not exclusively regulated by genetic loci that commonly influence overall body weight and rather that there are loci contributing to the growth of specific organs only. 相似文献

Oligodeoxynucleotides containing the cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) motif (CpG-ODNs) have been shown to induce T(H)1 immune responses in animals. Since the sequences of CpG-ODNs that induce T(H)1 responses are considered to vary among animal species, it is necessary to identify effective CpG-ODNs in each animal. In order to identify the sequences of CpG-ODNs that induce T(H)1 responses in dogs, mRNA expression and protein production of IFN-gamma were examined in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from healthy dogs treated with 11 kinds of synthetic CpG-ODNs. One of the 11 CpG-ODNs (No. 2 CpG-ODN, 5'-GGTGCATCGATGCAGGGGGG-3') was shown to significantly increase mRNA expression and protein production of IFN-gamma in canine PBMCs in a manner dependent on the sequence of the CpG motif. This CpG-ODN also enhanced the expression of IL-12 p40 mRNA in canine PBMCs, whereas expression of IL-12 p35, IL-18, and IL-4 mRNAs was not induced by this CpG-ODN. These results indicate that this CpG-ODN was able to produce IFN-gamma by induction of T(H)1-skewed immune response in dogs. CpG-ODNs may be useful for inducing prophylactic and therapeutic immunity against allergic diseases, viral infection, and tumors in dogs. 相似文献

Studies that investigate the underlying mechanisms of disease and treatment options typically require the use of a suitable animal model. Few suitable animal models exist for left atrial thrombosis. Here, we demonstrated that the Spontaneously-Running-Tokushima-Shikoku (SPORTS) rat — a Wistar strain known for its running ability—is predisposed to the development of thrombi in the left atrium. We investigated the incidence of left atrial thrombosis in male (n = 16) and female (n = 17) SPORTS rats and observed organized atrial thrombosis in 57% and 38% of males and female rats, respectively. In the male rats, systolic blood pressures and heart rates were significantly higher in SPORTS rats than in control Wistar rats. We could not find any evidence of arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation, during electrocardiographic examination of SPORTS rats. We believe that the SPORTS rat could serve as a new research model for left atrial thrombosis; further, it may be suitable for research investigating the development of new antithrombotic approaches for the control of atrial thrombosis or familial thrombophilia in humans. 相似文献

The goal of the current study was to compare the efficiency of gas exchange and platelet conservation of a new extracapillary blood flow oxygenator versus an endocapillary blood flow oxygenator during open heart surgery with extracorporeal circulation in dogs. Dilation and remodeling of the right ventricular outflow tract of dogs was performed using a patch graft technique to simulate pulmonary stenosis. Sequential pre- and post-operative blood analysis revealed that gas exchange efficiency and platelet conservation was significantly greater with the extracapillary blood flow oxygenator than with the endocapillary blood flow oxygenator. However, the priming volume of the extracapillary blood flow oxygenator was significantly greater, leading to hemodilution. We conclude that while the extracapillary blood flow oxygenator provided benefits in terms of gas exchange and platelet conservation, development of a smaller extracapillary blood flow type oxygenator to reduce hemodilution effects would be beneficial. 相似文献

The concentrations of lactoferrin (Lf) in quarter milk from normal lactating cows and subclinical mastitic cows were measured to determine whether the Lf concentration in milk is influenced by the age of the cow, the stage of lactation, number of milk somatic cells and the presence of pathogens. Lf concentrations in 111 quarter milk samples from 28 normal lactating cows and 270 quarter milk samples from 198 subclinical mastitic cows were measured by means of a single radial immunodiffusion test. Lf concentrations (means +/- standard deviations; logarithmic form) in normal cows and subclinical mastitic cows were 2.23 +/- 0.39 and 2.70 +/- 0.39, respectively. The mean milk Lf concentration (log) in subclinical mastitic cows was significantly (p<0.01) higher than that in normal cows. The mean milk Lf concentration (log) in normal lactating cows aged 5 years was lower than those in normal lactating cows aged 2 years (p<0.01) and 3 years (p<0.05). The results showed that the milk Lf concentration (log) is associated with age of the dairy cow (one-way analysis of variance test, p<0.01). The mean milk Lf concentration (log) in the latter lactational period tended to be higher than those in the peak and middle periods. Milk Lf concentrations (log) tended to be proportional to the level of the somatic cell count (SCC) score. Mean milk Lf concentrations (log) in subclinical mastitic cows infected with Staphylococcus aureus and with other streptococci species were significantly (p<0.01) higher than those in cows infected with coagulase-negative staphylococci and with Corynebacterium bovis. 相似文献

The incidence of DIC in 208 dogs with a malignant tumor was evaluated. The incidence of DIC was 9.6% in dogs with a malignant tumor which was a solid tumor in all. In 164 dogs with a malignant solid tumor, the incidence of DIC was 12.2%. The incidence of DIC in dogs with hemangiosarcoma, mammary gland carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lung was significantly higher than that in dogs with other malignant tumors. These results suggested that special care in looking for DIC should be taken in dogs with a malignant solid tumor. 相似文献

In the tropical canopy tree, Dryobalanops aromatica Gaertn. f., upper-canopy leaves (UL) develop under sunlit conditions but are subjected to self-shading within the crown as they age. In contrast, lower-canopy leaves (LL) are exposed to uniform dim light conditions throughout their life span. By comparing leaf morphology and physiology of UL and LL, variations in leaf characteristics were related to leaf age and self-shading. Mass-based chlorophyll (chl) concentration and the chlorophyll/nitrogen (chl/N) ratio were lower and the chl a/b ratio was higher in UL than in LL. In UL, the chl/N ratio gradually increased and the chl a/b ratio gradually decreased with leaf aging, whereas these ratios remained unchanged with leaf age in LL. The effective quantum yield of photosystem II (PSII) (DeltaF/F(m)') at a given irradiance remained unchanged with leaf age in LL, whereas DeltaF/F(m)' changed with leaf age in UL. These data indicate N reallocation within the leaves from carbon fixation components to light harvesting components and a dynamic regulation of photochemical processes of PSII in response to increased self-shading of UL. Despite the difference in light environment with leaf age between UL and LL, maximum photosynthetic rates and nitrogen-use efficiency decreased with leaf aging in both UL and LL. Constancy in the chl/N ratio with leaf age in LL indicated that the decrease in photosynthetic capacity was caused by effects other than shading, such as leaf aging. We conclude that N reallocation and acclimation of PSII to self-shading occurred even in mature leaves, whereas the change in photosynthetic capacity with leaf age was more conservative. 相似文献
