Changes in serum concentrations of estradiol-17β, testosterone, 17α,20βdihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one, and vitellogenin were investigated during ovarian development induced by injection of a salmon pituitary extract in cultured European eel Anguilla anguilla . Vitellogenesis was induced with a weekly dose of 50 mg pituitary extract/kg body weight. In eels receiving that dose, gonadsomatic indices ranged from 20–43% after the 10th–11th weekly injection. Body weights were relatively stable during vitellogenesis, but increased dramatically during final maturation. Serum estradiol-17β levels increased slightly during vitellogenesis and peaked at an average of 6.95 ng/mL at final maturation. The profile of serum vitellogenin followed that of estradiol-17β which increased markedly from an average of 0.36 to 20.72 mg/mL. Control levels of vitellogenin were undetectable throughout the study. Average serum levels of testosterone increased to a peak of 17.74 ng/mL in the early stage of vitellogenesis, followed by a sharp drop to initial levels (3.86 ng/mL) in the late stage of vitellogenesis, and then increased again to an average of 8.84 ng/mL at the final maturation stage. Serum 17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one was not detected (<50 pg/mL) throughout the experiment. Profiles of serum estradiol-17β, testosterone, and vitellogenin observed during ovarian development appear different from those found in salmonids and other teleosts. This study indicates, however, that cultured European eels are a useful model for study of gonadal maturation in the eel.  相似文献

Eggplant roots colonized by a sterile, white mycelial endophyte (SWM) were previously found to become highly resistant to Verticillium wilt. SWM alone, however, caused no visible, disease symptoms, such as wilting or necrosis. The mechanism of the symptomless infection by SWM was investigated in this study. Electron microscopy revealed that hyphae of SWM were abundant on and inside the root epidermal cells 2 weeks after inoculation. Many terminal appressoria formed from apical tips of hyphae, and heavy degradation of the host cell walls was evident where hyphae accumulated. By 4 weeks following inoculation, penetration pegs easily breached epidermal cells, and the infection hyphae penetrated outer cortical cells. In response to the hyphal ingress, numerous tubule-like vesicles and membrane-bound, multivesicular bodies accumulated in cortical cytoplasm near the infection sites of the outer cortical cells, but no visible signs of the host reactions were seen in the epidermal cells. Papillae developed at the spaces between cell walls and plasma membranes at the infection sites. The penetration hyphae often grew out of the papillae, but further hyphal ingress was halted in the middle cortical cell layer. By 8 weeks following inoculation, papillae that developed in these cells contained larger amounts of highly electron-dense material and were reinforced by multilamellate, fibrous elements. Hyphae that entered such papillae were confined to them, and the hyphal cytoplasm degenerated. As the result of the activated resistance reactions, root vascular cylinders remained intact, and the host plants did not wilt.  相似文献

The association equilibrium constant, 1Kd, and the carbamylation constant, k2, of 53 o-, m-, and p-substituted phenyl N-methylcarbamates with bovine erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase were determined. The 1Kd value varied 1000-fold, whereas the k2 value did not depend upon the nature and position of substituents. The variation in log(1Kd) was analyzed using free energy related substituent parameters and regression analyses. The effect of substituents at o-, m-, and p-positions was nicely separated into hydrophobic, electronic, hydrogen bonding, and proximity (steric and field electronic for o-substituents) factors. The physicochemical significance of these factors was established by comparison with those for model organic reactivities. The mechanism of the whole reaction process was elucidated in terms of physical organic chemistry.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the effects of the proportion of concentrate in the diet on the secretion of growth hormone (GH), insulin and insulin‐like growth factor‐I (IGF‐I) secretion and the GH‐releasing hormone (GHRH)‐induced GH response in adult sheep fed once daily. Dietary treatments were roughage and concentrate at ratios of 100:0 (0% concentrate diet), 60:40 (40% concentrate diet), and 20:80 (80% concentrate diet) on a dry matter basis. Mean plasma concentrations of GH before daily feeding (10.00–14.00 hours) were 11.4 ± 0.4, 10.1 ± 0.5 and 7.5 ± 0.3 ng/mL on the 0, 40 and 80% concentrate diet treatments, respectively. A significant decrease in plasma GH concentration was observed after daily feeding of any of the dietary treatments and these decreased levels were maintained for 8 h (0%), 12 h (40%) and 12 h (80%), respectively (P < 0.05). Plasma IGF‐I concentrations were significantly decreased 8–12 h and 4–16 h after the end of feeding compared with the prefeeding level in the 40 and 80% concentrate diet treatments, respectively (P < 0.05). GHRH injection brought an abrupt increase in the plasma GH concentrations, reaching a peak 10 min after each injection, but, after the meal, the peak plasma GH values for animals fed 40% (P < 0.05) and 80% (P < 0.01) concentrate diet were lower than that for roughage fed animals. The concentrate content of a diet affects the anterior pituitary function of sheep resulting in reduced baseline concentrations of GH and prolonged GH reduction after feeding once daily.  相似文献

Composition and structure of the main forest types, as well as the species changes under disturbance, were described as the representation of the forest vegetation in the north slope of Changbai mountain, northeast China. There were 3 forest zones from 600 m to 2,000 m asl, (1) broad-leaved-conifer mixed forest zone, 600–1,100 m asl, dominated byPinus koraiensis, Tilia amurensis, Acer mono, Ulmus japonica, (2) coniferous forest zone, 1,100–1,700 m asl, dominated byPicea jezoensis var.komarovii, P. koraiensis, Abies nephrolepis, and (3)Betula ermanii forest zone, 1,700–2,000 m asl, dominated byBetula ermanii, except for the east slope which was occupied byLarix olgensis. The evergreen component increased with elevation up to the upper limit of the coniferous forest zone (1,700 m), but disappeared in theB. ermanii zone. Species richness was significantly related to elevation. Towards higher elevation, the lapse rate of species-number was 1.6 species per 100 m, and it was only one species near the timberline. Species richness was reduced sharply under intensive disturbance, such as clear cutting, windfalletc. The species diversity was very low in the early stage of succession, and high in the later.  相似文献

The endocrine regulation of reproduction in a multiple spawning fish with an asynchronous-type ovary remains largely unknown. The objectives of this study were to monitor changes in the mRNA expression of three gonadotropin (GtH) subunits (GPα, FSHβ, and LHβ) during the reproductive cycle of the female chub mackerel Scomber japonicus. Cloning and subsequent sequence analysis revealed that the cDNAs of chub mackerel GPα, FSHβ, and LHβ were 658, 535, and 599 nucleotides in length and encoded 117, 115, and 147 amino acids, respectively. We applied a quantitative real-time PCR assay to quantify the mRNA expression levels of these GtH subunits. During the seasonal reproductive cycle, FSHβ mRNA levels remained high during the vitellogenic stages, while GPα and LHβ mRNA levels peaked at the end of vitellogenesis. The expression of all three GtH subunits decreased during the post-spawning period. These results suggest that follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is involved in vitellogenesis, while luteinizing hormone (LH) functions during final oocyte maturation (FOM). Both GPα and FSHβ mRNA levels remained high during the FOM stages of the spawning cycle and increased further just after spawning. Thus, FSH synthesis may be strongly activated just after spawning to accelerate vitellogenesis in preparation for the next spawning. Alternatively, LHβ mRNA levels declined during hydration and then increased after ovulation. This study demonstrates that chub mackerel are a good model for investigating GtH functions in multiple spawning fish.  相似文献

The life history of the leopard coralgrouper Plectropomus leopardus was examined for the purpose of stock evaluation and to help maintain populations in the Okinawa Islands, southwestern Japan. Age was estimated from cut and burnt otoliths, and gonads were observed histologically to reveal the growth, spawning period and relationships between age and both sexual development and sexual maturation for P. leopardus in waters north of Okinawa Island. The three parameters in the von Bertalanffy growth equation, L , k, and t 0, were estimated at 61.2 cm fork length, 0.289, and 0.41, respectively. The oldest individual obtained among the specimens was 18.8 years. The spawning period started in May and lasted until July. During this period, 50 % of females reached maturity at 43.3 cm fork length and at 5 years of age. Due to the sexual transition from female to male, the sex ratio decreased to 50 % at 59.8 cm fork length and at 10.3 years of age.  相似文献

The effects of the planting method (transplanting vs. direct seeding), rice cultivar (Sen Pidao vs. Phka Rumduol), and herbicide application (admixture of bentazone and cyhalofop‐butyl) on weeds and weed seed banks were quantified in unflooded, shallowly flooded, and deeply flooded paddy fields in Cambodia in 2005 and 2006. Broad‐leaved weeds infested more toward maturity in 2006 than in 2005, particularly in directly seeded plots. Weed dry weights at pre‐heading and/or maturity were consistently reduced by herbicide application and Phka Rumduol cultivar, while weed numbers increased under unflooded condition. The proportion of sedges was consistently larger in directly seeded and non‐herbicide plots at pre‐heading. Larger numbers and dry weights of sedges and total weeds in 2005 caused larger seed bank sizes of sedges and total weeds in 2006, which further caused their infestation in 2006. A greater weed dry weight at 62 days after sowing in 2005 resulted in larger seed banks of Cyperus iria and Fimbristylis miliacea, which were most severe under non‐herbicide, direct‐seeded treatment, while that at rice maturity resulted in larger seed banks of Cyperus difformis, Scirpus juncoides, and Lindernia antipoda. Overall, sedges shared the majority of the total weed seed bank, followed by broad‐leaved weeds and then grasses. A lower yield in 2005 led to significantly larger seed bank sizes of sedges, but not of grasses or broad‐leaved weeds. Rice yield reduction was consistently related to larger numbers of sedges by heading and those of grasses at maturity.  相似文献
