I estimated the areal nitrous oxide (N2O) flux from 281,347 ha of Costa Rican lowland covered with primary and secondary forest, pastures and banana plantations by linking the DeNitrification-DeComposition (DNDC) model with a Geographic Information System (GIS). Generalized soil, texture and land use maps were overlaid to yield unique combinations of N2O flux control factors. Overlay patches were associated with the nearest of seven available meteorological stations. Monte Carlo-based sensitivity analysis was used to identify DNDC's key driving variables and required map attributes. Clay content, initial soil organic carbon (SOC), bulk density, and pH were selected as key driving variables. For 217 patch classes, DNDC simulations were carried out with climate data for seven different years. The estimated average areal flux was 6.8 kg N2O-N ha-1 yr-1. Possible applications of the GIS-DNDC interface presented include estimation of long-term areal flux dynamics from a changing land use mosaic, and prediction of areal fluxes resulting from alternative land use scenarios.  相似文献

The plasticity in root system development (RSD) is a key trait for the adaptation of rice to mild drought. However, the enhanced RSD due to the plasticity may not be always a sole function of promoted lateral root (LR) production, but also of the integrated responses of nodal root (NR) development. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of mild drought intensities on the development of the NR and LR, and their contribution to the entire RSD. We used six genotypes including KDML105 (indica, lowland adapted), a high lateral rooting ability genotype. The plants were grown up to heading or maturity stage for two years under soil with limited soil depth (20 cm) assuming the presence of the hardpan and at different moisture gradients generated by the line source sprinkler system. The effects of drought intensities generally differed between the development of NR and LR. In both years, all genotypes showed highest LR development under mild drought stress intensities. However, in some genotypes including KDML105, NR development was maintained in a limited soil moisture range only, which was narrower and wetter than that in which LR plasticity was expressed. Furthermore, the entire RSD was maintained only when both the NR and LR were simultaneously promoted or maintained. These results suggest that the NR have less plasticity than the LR in response to drought and the contribution of the plasticity in LR development to the entire RSD is dependent on both the soil moisture and nodal rooting ability.  相似文献

Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) has recently emerged as a highly infectious viral pathogen in tomato crops. Greenhouse trials were conducted under conditions similar to commercial tomato production. These trials examined whether tomato plants can be protected against PepMV by a preceding infection with an attenuated isolate of this virus. Two potential attenuated isolates that displayed mild leaf symptoms were selected from field isolates. Two PepMV isolates that displayed severe leaf symptoms were also selected from field isolates to challenge the attenuated isolates. The isolates with aggressive symptoms were found to reduce bulk yields by 8 and 24% in single infections, respectively. Yield losses were reduced to a 0–3% loss in plants that were treated with either one of the attenuated isolates, while no effects were observed on the quality of the fruits. After the challenge infection, virus accumulation levels and symptom severity of the isolates with aggressive symptoms were also reduced by cross-protection. Infection with the attenuated isolates alone did neither affect bulk yield, nor quality of the harvested tomato fruits.  相似文献

A spatial model of long term habitat succession at a degrading Louisiana wetland was constructed based upon simulating exchanges across irregularly shaped polygons. Polygons represented the natural morphology which is indicative of the natural landscape. The PBS model was partially successful in simulating spatial habitat changes over a 28-year period when more than 1000 ha of wetland loss occurred (r2=.56). General landscape trends did, however, emerge from the model development. Areas of high annual water level fluctuations, and high primary productivity were less likely to change from wetlands to open water and were most likely to recover if altered. We discuss the potential for predictive improvement and for integration with polygon-based geographic information systems, and conclude that a PBS model demonstrates the need for spatially explicit landscape management.  相似文献

Bioactivation of zearalenone by porcine hepatic biotransformation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Zearalenone (ZEA) is a resorcylic acid lactone derivative produced by various Fusarium species that are widely found in food and feeds. The structure of zearalenone is flexible enough to allow a conformation able to bind to mammalian oestrogen receptors, where it acts as an agonist. Using oestrogen-dependent Human Breast Cancer (MCF-7) cells, the oestrogenic activity of zearalenone and its derivatives were compared using 17 beta-oestradiol as a positive control. The results obtained demonstrate that the oestrogenic potency of ZEA derivatives could be ranked in the following order: alpha-zearalenol > alpha-zearalanol > zearalenone > beta-zearalenol. Since pigs have been reported to be among the most sensitive animal species, biotransformation studies with pig liver subcellular fractions were conducted. These studies indicated that alpha-zearalenol is the main hepatic metabolite of zearalenone in pigs, and it is assumed that 3 alpha- and 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogeneases are involved in the hepatic biotransformation, since the formation of alpha-zearalenol and beta-zearalenol could be inhibited by prototypic substrates for either enzyme. The bioactivation of ZEA into the more active alpha-zearalenol seems to provide a possible explanation for the observed high sensitivity of pigs towards feeding-stuffs contaminated with the mycotoxin.  相似文献

Plants under oxidative stress suffer from damages that have been interpreted as unavoidable consequences of injuries inflicted upon plants by toxic levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, this paradigm needs to be modified. Inactivation of a single gene, EXECUTER1, is sufficient to abrogate stress responses of Arabidopsis thaliana caused by the release of singlet oxygen: External conditions under which these stress responses are observed and the amounts of ROS that accumulate in plants exposed to these environmental conditions do not directly cause damages. Instead, seedling lethality and growth inhibition of mature plants result from genetic programs that are activated after the release of singlet oxygen has been perceived by the plant.  相似文献

A study of water contact patterns of the population around a recently constructed irrigation scheme in the Benue valley of Northern Cameroon gave insights in ways to control the possible spread of schistosomiasis. Results indicated that the introduction of irrigation had increased the exposure to possible transmission of schistosomiasis, directly, by work on irrigated rice-fields, and indirectly by the creation of permanent water reservoirs in the vicinity of the village. The provision of safe drinking water in the village was found to be insufficient; this explains the intensive use of open water reservoirs for domestic purposes. Possible ways to reduce high-risk water contacts due to domestic, occupational and recreational activities are discussed.  相似文献

Different types of water stress severely affect crop production, and the plant root system plays a critical role in stress avoidance. In the case of rice, a cereal crop cultivated under the widest range of soil hydrologic conditions, from irrigated anaerobic conditions to rainfed conditions, phenotypic root plasticity is of particular relevance. Recently, important plastic root traits under different water stress conditions, and their physiological and molecular mechanisms have been gradually understood. In this review, we summarize these plastic root traits and their contributions to dry matter production through enhancement of water uptake under different water stress conditions. We also discuss the physiological and molecular mechanisms regulating the phenotypic plasticity of root systems.  相似文献
