The prevalence of porcine rotavirus infection was studied in 15 different herds located in the north-western region of Venezuela. The presence of rotavirus was studied by direct electron microscopy (EM) and by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). From 136 samples analyzed during the six months of the study (September 1983-February 1984), 38 (27.9%) were found to be positive for rotaviruses, with infection more common in animals that were 4-6 weeks old. Atypical rotaviruses were not detected in any of the samples examined. Most rotavirus positive specimens were subgrouped using specific monoclonal antibodies in an ELISA test. The majority of the samples (26 out of 38) were found to exhibit Subgroup I antigenicity. Only two specimens, collected from the same herd in two consecutive months, were found to belong to Subgroup II. To characterize further the circulating rotaviruses, electrophoretic analysis of the RNA genome was performed on samples selected from nine different herds. Great variability in the RNA electropherotypes was observed. No correlation was found between subgroup specificity and the migration of the two smaller segments (Genes 10 and 11), as has been described for human rotaviruses.  相似文献

Juvenile gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) were fed with seven experimental diets containing different proportions of protein and lipid (P/L): 38/29, 41/26, 44/25, 47/23, 50/22, 54/21 and 57/20 per cent of dry matter, respectively. After 12 weeks, fish fed on diet 38/29 (P/L) showed the lowest food efficiency and final weight. A correlation between the hepatosomatic index and fat content in the diets was observed, together with a decrease in muscle glycogen in animals fed with a 38/29 (P/L) diet. Whilst no statistical differences were found in flesh texture, a clear relationship was observed between elasticity and fibre density. Fillet Chroma was altered in the animals fed with the 38/29 (P/L) diet. The same group showed a decrease in hepatic growth factor receptor (c‐met) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in white muscle. Protein content in the diets correlated with mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) phosphorylation in muscle. In conclusion, we have shown that the substitution of protein by lipid in sea bream diets can be performed up to a certain percentage without affecting fish growth, and we have demonstrated that several molecules such as MyoD, mTOR, PCNA and c‐met are affected by the dietary ratio of protein to lipid and could be potential flesh quality markers.  相似文献

Water flow is a fundamental characteristic required for the ecological integrity of stream ecosystems. However, populations of many freshwater fishes in the Mediterranean region are threatened by man‐induced drought due to water diversion. Mark‐recapture methodology is an effective tool for estimating fish abundance and survival probability, but it has been seldom used with Mediterranean freshwater fish. We tagged over 2,400 individuals of two threatened cyprinids (Mediterranean barbel Barbus meridionalis and Catalan chub Squalius laietanus) inhabiting an Iberian stream affected by water diversion, and used mark‐recapture methods to evaluate the effects of flow, temperature and depth on their apparent survival and abundance at hydrologically altered and perennial reaches. Based on estimates over the summer drying season, survival of Mediterranean barbel was more than six times higher in an upstream reach with permanent flow than a middle reach impacted by water diversion. Water depth was the most important habitat feature accounting for differences in survival, with both barbel and chub exhibiting higher survival and abundance at permanent sites farther downstream where flow had been restored and in an unaltered tributary. Our results show clear negative impacts of water diversion on fish populations. Both species, but particularly barbel, have life‐cycle characteristics that may allow populations to recover quickly if natural streamflow was restored by conserving water and reducing water diversion.  相似文献

Olive tree varieties that were cultivated only in the Mediterranean basin a few decades ago are now planted in the Southern Hemisphere as well. The chemical composition of the oils produced in countries as far distant as Spain and Chile are affected by differences in latitude and climate. In this work, seven monovarietal virgin olive oils from Chile (Arbequina, Barnea, Frantoio, Koroneiki, Leccino, Manzanilla and Picual) have been characterized by the chemical compounds responsible for taste (phenols) and aroma (volatiles). The oils were produced in five regions of Chile, and the concentration values of some chemical compounds were related to the geographical location of the olive tree orchards. Virgin olive oils from the major cultivars, Arbequina and Picual, were characterized in comparison with the same monovarietal oils produced in Spain. The concentration values of fourteen volatile compounds showed significant differences (p < 0.05) between the oils produced in Spain and Chile. Concerning the phenol composition, main differences were found on the secoiridoids derivatives of oleuropein and ligstroside, apigenin and luteolin.  相似文献

Several experiments of maceration of a sherry wine vinegar with different fruits (orange, lemon, strawberry, grapefruit, and lime) have been carried out. After optimization (only peel, no heating and seven days as maximum time of maceration), parameters such as polyphenolic content, superoxide anion scavenging ability (related to antioxidant activity) and ascorbic acid content were determined in sherry wine vinegars macerated with two amounts of peel and for two maceration times (3 and 7 days). The analysis of variance pointed to a clear relationship (p<0.01) between type of fruit and amount of peel and polyphenolic content. The factor "time" was practically not significant for any polyphenol. Sherry wine vinegars macerated with different fruits exhibited higher superoxide anion scavenger ability, with the maximum values found for the vinegar macerated with lemon peel. The correlation analysis showed that the superoxide anion scavenger ability of the vinegars macerated, and thus their antioxidant activity, was highly correlated (p<0.01) with several polyphenols, especially with naringin, hesperidin, neohesperidin and gentisic acid and not with the ascorbic acid content.  相似文献

In the present work the kinetics of ferric reduction was investigated using dissimilatory ferric- and sulphate-reducing bacterial cultures. The effect of sulphate reduction on Fe(III) reduction was also studied. The study is an attempt to improve the biological reduction rate of Fe(III) as an alternative biotechnological way to the reduction step in steelmaking processing operations. The results obtained show that the reduction of ferric iron and sulphate took place in a successive way and none synergetic effect was detected. The simultaneous action of both metabolic activities did not enhance the process but slowed down the kinetics of ferric reduction. The reduction process of 3 g/L of soluble ferric and 3 g/L of sulphate lasted 25 days. Ferric iron was the first electron acceptor to be reduced in the first 15 days followed by the sulphate reduction in the following 10 days. That result suggests that ferric reduction is a preferential metabolic process over sulphate reduction when both electron acceptors coexist. None improvement in the kinetics was observed using an electron donor concentration in excess. In contrast, the total reduction of ferric ion (3 g/L) with adapted bacterial cultures was achieved in only 36 h. The presence of sulphate had no effect on the ferric reduction. Finally, an improved culture medium for ferric-reducing bacteria is also proposed.  相似文献

This article presents the results of a research study that analyzed the effect that secondary biofilm treatment systems had on particle size distribution (PSD) in the effluent of wastewater treatment plants. This study focused on three biofilm technologies (i.e. a submerged biofilter system, a trickling filter system, and a rotating biological contactor system) in three working urban wastewater treatment plants. For this purpose, the variation of the fit parameters was analyzed after modeling the PSD with the power law. The greatest reduction in particle number was obtained with the submerged biofilter system, followed by the trickling filter system. In contrast, the rotating biological contactor showed the smallest reduction in particle number under the conditions of our study. It was also found that the variation of the fit parameters of the PSD, caused by the wastewater treatments was related to other wastewater parameters, such as the chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, and the mean particle size. This showed a direct relation between these parameters and the particles in wastewater.  相似文献

Changes in the lipid composition of two standard infant formulas induced by 4 years of storage were determined. Lipids were thoroughly analyzed using different gas-liquid and liquid-liquid chromatographic techniques. Oleic acid and linoleic acid, which accounted for almost the total monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, respectively, showed slight but significant decreases (P < 0.05) during the 4 years of storage (from 41.52 to 39.83% for oleic acid and from 17.35 to 15.99% for linoleic acid). Total trans fatty acid isomers showed low initial level (0.22% of total fatty acids), and such level remained unchanged during the storage period. Nonvolatile oxidation compounds including oxidized, dimeric, and polymeric triglycerides did not significantly increase during the storage period, although a significant loss of tocopherols was found in the surface oil fraction (10-15%). In general, the results obtained indicate that, although small losses of oleic and linolenic acid as well as tocopherols were found, the 4 year storage period did not lead to relevant changes in the lipid fraction of infant formulas.  相似文献

The main flavonols found in seven widespread Vitis vinifera red grape cultivars include the 3-glucosides and 3-glucuronides of myricetin and quercetin and the 3-glucosides of kaempferol and isorhamnetin. In addition, the methoxylated trisubstituted flavonols, laricitrin and syringetin, were predominantly found as 3-glucosides. As minority flavonols, the results suggest the detection of the 3-galactosides of kaempferol and laricitrin, the 3-glucuronide of kaempferol, and the 3-(6' '-acetyl)glucosides of quercetin and syringetin. The flavonol profiles based on the eight above-mentioned flavonols allowed the cultivar differentiation of the grape samples. With regard to flavonol biosynthesis in the berry skin, quercetin 3-glucuronide predominated at véraison, followed by quercetin 3-glucoside, and only trace amounts of trisubstituted flavonols were detected. The proportion of quercetin 3-glucoside remained almost constant during berry ripening, whereas the proportion of quercetin 3-glucuronide decreased and the other flavonols, especially myricetin 3-glucoside, increased their importance. In wines, flavonol 3-glycosides coexisted with their corresponding free aglycones released by hydrolysis. The presence of laricitrin, syringetin, and laricitrin 3-glucoside in red wines is reported here for the first time. The extent of hydrolysis was widely variable among wines made from the same grape cultivar, and the results suggest the influence of the type of aglycone and glycoside on the rate of hydrolysis. Due to hydrolysis, the differentiation of single-cultivar wines gave acceptable results only when aglycone-type flavonol profiles were used.  相似文献
