Twenty growing crossbred cattle and crossbred water buffalo (carabao) with an average age of 22 (18–24 months) months were equally distributed into two treatment groups according to species. The animals were fed with the same ration made up of corn silage (50%) + wet brewer's spent grain (30%) + concentrate mixture (20%), and their fattening performance was monitored. The digestibilities of the different nutrients were likewise determined. The economics of raising the animals under intensive production system was calculated. Species differences did not influence total dry matter intake of the animals, when expressed as percentage of the bodyweight and per metabolic body size. There were no significant differences in digestion coefficients of the different nutrients, except for crude protein in crossbred water buffalo and crossbred cattle, although the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and nitrogen free extract tended to be high in the former than in the latter. Likewise, average daily gain (ADG) was similar, although crossbred water buffalo had numerically higher ADG (828.6 vs 785.5 g) than crossbred cattle during the 6 months feeding. During the first 3 months of feeding (1–90 days), the ADG of crossbred water buffalo was 1066.1 g compared to 940.1 g for crossbred cattle. From 91 to 180 days, the crossbred cattle had slightly higher ADG (630.1 vs 591.1 g) but also the difference was not significant. The return above feed cost was comparable for crossbred cattle and crossbred water buffalo during the first 90 days of feeding. However, extending the feeding period from 91 to 180 days , income over feed cost was higher (P < 0.05) for crossbred cattle by PhP 5.3/kg gain than crossbred water buffalo. Results showed that crossbred water buffalo could attain similar growth rate with that of crossbred cattle under intensive system, when fed with high quality feed materials.  相似文献

Distribution and persistence of four different strains of transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE) virus in newborn piglets were compared.The piglets inoculated with high-passaged TO-163 strain did not show any clinical signs of TGE on any days postinoculation (DPI), but the piglets inoculated with one of the other three strains, SH-14, SH-164 or TO-16, had soft feces or diarrhea. In the latter cases, the virus was isolated mainly from respiratory organs, lymph nodes, and digestive tract on any DPI, but was rarely detected in the digestive tract of piglets inoculated with the TO-163 strain. The frequency of virus recovery from the tissues was the highest till 4 DPI in all of the piglets inoculated with one of the four virus strains, and it was markedly reduced thereafter in the piglets inoculated with high-passaged strains.The TO-163 strain was subjected to serial passage in newborn piglets for seven passages. There was no evidence of regained pathogenicity with advance in passage, and detection of virus was restricted to lymph nodes and lung of these piglets.In gnotobiotic piglets inoculated with the TO-163 strain, frequent virus recovery and high titers of virus from the tissues were obtained on up to the 4th DPI. The viruses in high titer were found in the digestive tract of some of the piglets; however, none of them showed any clinical signs of TGE.  相似文献

Between April 2001 and 2007, 18 Yersinia pseudotuberculosis outbreaks occurred in breeding monkeys at 12 zoological gardens in Japan, and 28 monkeys of 8 species died. A total of 18 Y. pseudotuberculosis strains from the dead monkeys, comprising one strain per outbreak, were examined for serotype and the presence of the virulence genes virF, inv, ypm (ypmA, ypmB and ypmC) and irp2. Of the 18 Y. pseudotuberculosis strains, 7 (38.9%) were serotype 4b, 7 (38.9%) were serotype 1b, and there was one each of serotypes 2b, 3, 6 and 7. All the 18 strains examined harbored virF and inv. Sixteen (88.9%) strains, including the strain of serotype 7, harbored ypmA. However, no strain harbored ypmB, ypmC and irp2.

This study demonstrated that among other pathogenic factors, almost all the Y. pseudotuberculosis isolated from the outbreaks had the ypm gene encoding the superantigenic toxin, YPM. As most of the monkeys who died in those outbreaks originated from South America and other regions, where the presence of the ypm gene have not been reported, YPM might be the cause, or at least the most important factor for, the high mortality of the breeding monkeys infected by Y. pseudotuberculosis in Japan. This is also the first report of a fatal case due to Y. pseudotuberculosis serotype 7 infection in the world.  相似文献

Transection of the direct cortico-motoneuronal pathway at the mid-cervical segment of the spinal cord in the macaque monkey results in a transient impairment of finger movements. Finger dexterity recovers within a few months. Combined brain imaging and reversible pharmacological inactivation of motor cortical regions suggest that the recovery involves the bilateral primary motor cortex during the early recovery stage and more extensive regions of the contralesional primary motor cortex and bilateral premotor cortex during the late recovery stage. These changes in the activation pattern of frontal motor-related areas represent an adaptive strategy for functional compensation after spinal cord injury.  相似文献

Appearance of albino seedlings caused by plastome-nuclear genome incompatibility was avoided by using polyploid parents in intersubgeneric hybridization between evergreen azaleas and deciduous Rhododendron japonicum f. flavum. Intra- and interploid crosses of 2x or 4x evergreen azaleas with 2xR. japonicum f. flavum showed high capsule set, but their reciprocal crosses failed to set capsules. Green and albino hybrids were obtained from 2x evergreen azaleas × 2xR. japonicum f. flavum crosses where ptDNAs of the green and albino plants were derived from R. japonicum f. flavum (paternal parent) and evergreen azaleas (maternal parents), respectively. All the progenies from the crosses of 4x evergreen azaleas × 2xR. japonicum f. flavum were green triploids with evergreen azalea-specific ptDNA. The efficiency of obtaining green hybrids in interploid crosses was higher than that in intraploid crosses. These results suggest that interploid crosses of 4x evergreen azaleas × 2xR. japonicum f. flavum can overcome plastome-nuclear genome incompatibility between evergreen azalea-specific plastome and the nuclear genome in the resulting hybrid.  相似文献

Extracts from the peel and flesh of a citrus fruit, dekopon (Shiranuhi mandarin Suppl. J.), were obtained under reduced pressure followed by dichloromethane extraction. A total of 127 volatile chemicals were identified in the extracts using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). They included 11 monoterpenes, 32 monoterpenoids, 9 sesquiterpenes, 5 sesquiterpenoids, 20 aliphatic alcohols, 14 aliphatic esters, 15 aliphatic aldehydes and ketones, 7 aliphatic acids, and 10 miscellaneous compounds. The major volatile constituents of the extract from the peel were d-limonene (2380.33 mg/kg), myrcene (36.54 mg/kg), bisabolene (30.03 mg/kg), sabinene (21.12 mg/kg), trans-beta-ocimene (16.96 mg/kg), valencene (12.84 mg/kg), decanal (8.14 mg/kg), beta-phellandrene (4.53 mg/kg), citronellol (4.51 mg/kg), 4-terpineol (4.50 mg/kg), linalool (4.13 mg/kg), and citronellyl acetate (3.63 mg/kg). The major volatile constituents of the extract from the flesh were ethyl acetate (21.54 mg/kg), acetoin (7.23 mg/kg), 3-methylbutanol (2.79 mg/kg), p-mentha-cis-2,8-dien-1-ol (1.01 mg/kg), 3-methylbutanoic acid (0.95 mg/kg), isobutanol (0.59 mg/kg), trans-isopiperitenol (0.58 mg/kg), p-mentha-trans-2,8-dien-1-ol, and trans-carveol (0.44 mg/kg). Compositions of volatile chemicals in peel and flesh extract were considerably different: the peel extract was rich in terpenes, whereas the flesh extract was rich in aliphatic compounds.  相似文献

The influence of genotype imputation using low‐density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) marker subsets on the genomic relationship matrix (G matrix), genetic variance explained, and genomic prediction (GP) was investigated for carcass weight and marbling score in Japanese Black fattened steers, using genotype data of approximately 40,000 SNPs. Genotypes were imputed using equally spaced SNP subsets of different densities. Two different linear models were used. The first (model 1) incorporated one G matrix, while the second (model 2) used two different G matrices constructed using the selected and remaining SNPs. When using model 1, the estimated additive genetic variance was always larger when using all SNPs obtained via genotype imputation than when using only equally spaced SNP subsets. The correlations between the genomic estimated breeding values obtained using genotype imputation with at least 3,000 SNPs and those using all available SNPs without imputation were higher than 0.99 for both traits. While additive genetic variance was likely to be partitioned with model 2, it did not enhance the accuracy of GP compared with model 1. These results indicate that genotype imputation using an equally spaced low‐density panel of an appropriate size can be used to produce a cost‐effective, valid GP.  相似文献

Endosperm texture is an important factor governing the end-product quality of cereals. The texture of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) endosperm is controlled by puroindoline a and b genes which are both absent in rice (Oryza sativa L.). It has been reported that the endosperm texture of rice can be modified by puroindoline genes. The mechanism, however, by which puroindolines affect the ultrastructure of rice endosperm cells remains to be investigated. In this study, we observed the ultrastructure of endosperm cells and the morphology of isolated starch granules of the transgenic rice expressing the puroindoline b gene. SEM and TEM observations indicated that compound starch granules were embedded within the matrix material in non-transgenic rice, Nipponbare, whereas they were surrounded by spaces in the transgenic rice. The morphology and size of each starch granule were not different between non-transgenic and the transgenic rice. However, the transgenic rice flour showed smaller particle size, higher starch damage, and lower viscosity during gelatinization than that of non-transgenic rice. These results confirm that puroindoline b reduces the grain hardness in rice. Moreover, the results also suggest that puroindoline b functions at the surface of compound starch granules, and not on polygonal starch granules in rice endosperm.  相似文献
