Stressful husbandry conditions are likely to affect growth and amino acid metabolism in fish. In this study, chronic ammonia exposure was used to test the effects of a stressor on growth and amino acid metabolism of Senegalese sole juveniles. The fish were exposed for 52 days to 11.6 mg L−1 [low‐TAN (L‐TAN)] or 23.2 mg L−1 [high‐TAN (H‐TAN)] of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), or to 0 mg L−1 (Control). Growth in L‐TAN groups was slightly but significantly different from the Control groups [relative growth rate (RGR=0.35±0.13 and 0.52±0.23% day−1 respectively)]. In H‐TAN groups, growth was severely affected (RGR=0.01±0.13% day−1). Stress parameters (plasma cortisol and glucose) showed slight or no significant differences between treatments. Plasma free amino acid (FAA) concentrations were affected after H‐TAN treatment. Increases in glutamine and aspartate concentrations in H‐TAN fish suggest alterations in amino acid metabolism related to nitrogen excretion processes. Some of the changes in FAA concentrations also suggest mobilization to energy supply and synthesis of metabolites related to stress response. Therefore, Senegalese sole seem to adapt to the L‐TAN concentration tested, but the H‐TAN concentration reduced growth and affected amino acid metabolism. 相似文献

Potential antagonists were isolated from the epiphytic flora associated with oranges and pome fruit. A total of 1465 microorganisms were tested in a preliminary screening against blue and green moulds on pome and citrus fruit, respectively. Among them, approximately 3% reduced incidence and severity by more than 50% and 4 microorganisms fulfilled the selection criteria of reduction in severity and incidence by 75%. The most effective was a yeast identified as Metschnikowia andauensis, strain NCYC 3728 (PBC-2), isolated from the surface of ‘Bravo de Esmolfe’ apple fruit cultivated in North Portugal. The biocontrol activity of M. andauensis PBC-2 was dependent on its applied concentration. At 5 × 106 cfu/mL incidence (% of infected wounds) and severity (lesion diameter) were reduced by 62 and 70%, respectively and at 1 × 107 cfu/mL, the greatest reduction was achieved, 90% of incidence and 95% of severity. The broad spectrum of action of M. andauensis PBC-2 was evaluated with effective control being achieved against Rhizopus stolonifer, Penicillium expansum and Botritys cinerea, on ‘Rocha’ pears and on different apple cultivars and against Penicillium digitatum and Penicillium italicum on mandarins and oranges. In semi-commercial trials in cold storage, the reduction of blue mould was 90%. Rapid colonization of fresh apple fruit wounds was observed during the first 24 h of cold storage, followed by a significant population increase during the first 15 days of storage and then the population remained stable until the end of storage. 相似文献

A pot experiment with wheat plants was carried out to study how late application of nitrogen (N) fertilizer affects the use of pre‐anthesis N reserves during the grain‐filling period. Increasing doses of N fertilizer were applied (0, 40, and 52 mg N plant–1), either in two amendments (growth stages GS20 and GS30, according to Zadoks scale) or in three amendments (GS20, GS30, and GS37). The experiment was arranged in a complete randomized three‐block design with 129 plants per treatment. The plants were watered daily, harvested every 2 d between anthesis and maturity, and were separated into roots, leaf sheaths, leaf blades, and ears for further N determination. Grain N concentration improved due to a late N application in GS37 by 14% (higher N dose) and by 7% (further splitting the same N‐fertilizer dose, respectively). The higher the N‐fertilizer dose applied, the greater was the amount of pre‐anthesis reserves in vegetative organs, these reserves became later available for remobilization. Although splitting the same N dose in three amendments did not increase the N reserves, these reserves were more efficiently remobilized allowing an improvement in grain N concentration. The fertilizer management did not change the temporary pattern of N accumulation in the ear, but did induce a change in the amount of N remobilized and in the contribution of each organ (root, leaf sheath, leaf blade) to this remobilization. Late N amendment allowed a greater N availability of leaf blades and ear N reserves (from 20% up to 26% and from 19% up to 22%, respectively) for remobilization towards the grain, decreasing the root contribution from 28% down to 15%, while the contribution of leaf sheaths was maintained around 35% irrespective of the N applied. 相似文献

The asymmetric alpha-addition of relatively nonpolar hydrocarbon substrates, such as allyl and aryl groups, to aldehydes and ketones remains a largely unsolved problem in organic synthesis, despite the wide potential utility of direct routes to such products. We reasoned that well-established chiral amine catalysis, which activates aldehydes toward electrophile addition by enamine formation, could be expanded to this important reaction class by applying a single-electron oxidant to create a transient radical species from the enamine. We demonstrated the concept of singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) activation with a highly selective alpha-allylation of aldehydes, and we here present preliminary results for enantioselective heteroarylations and cyclization/halogenation cascades. 相似文献
