Purpose

Soil microbes contribute significantly to soil respiration (SR) in boreal forests; however, there is limited knowledge on microbial contributions from long field investigations. The objective of this study was to estimate soil microbial respiration, as well as its primary controlling factors, for a period of three consecutive years.

Materials and methods

A trenching method was used to distinguish soil microbial respiration (R Mic) in a 55-year-old mature Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) plantation in Northern Japan; the soil in which developed originally from volcanic soils containing pumice. We used a portable CO2 detection system to measure the soil respiration rate during the growing season. Environmental factors, soil physiochemical characteristics, and soil microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen (MBC and MBN) were analyzed to explain the seasonal variations of SR and R Mic.

Results and discussion

The results showed that the estimated contribution of soil microbes to SR was 78, 62, and 55% during the three successive years, respectively. Respiration attributable to decomposition of aboveground litter contributed approximately 19% to SR. The major environmental factor that affected R Mic was soil temperature at 5 cm depth, which accounted for more than 70% of the seasonal variation in R Mic observed. There were close relations among MBC, MBN, and soil water content, but the soil water content showed no significant relation with R Mic.

Conclusions

The R Mic to SR varied from 78 to 55% following 3 years of trenching treatments. Our results demonstrated the important role of soil microbes on soil respiration in this larch forest. Soil temperature was the major positive factor that influenced R Mic, while soil water content had no significant effect. Global warming will increase the loss of C into the atmosphere by increasing the R Mic, and could accelerate climate change.

This study aimed to evaluate a validation reliability of single‐step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP) with a multiple‐lactation random regression test‐day model and investigate an effect of adding genotyped cows on the reliability. Two data sets for test‐day records from the first three lactations were used: full data from February 1975 to December 2015 (60 850 534 records from 2 853 810 cows) and reduced data cut off in 2011 (53 091 066 records from 2 502 307 cows). We used marker genotypes of 4480 bulls and 608 cows. Genomic enhanced breeding values (GEBV) of 305‐day milk yield in all the lactations were estimated for at least 535 young bulls using two marker data sets: bull genotypes only and both bulls and cows genotypes. The realized reliability (R2) from linear regression analysis was used as an indicator of validation reliability. Using only genotyped bulls, R2 was ranged from 0.41 to 0.46 and it was always higher than parent averages. The very similar R2 were observed when genotyped cows were added. An application of ssGBLUP to a multiple‐lactation random regression model is feasible and adding a limited number of genotyped cows has no significant effect on reliability of GEBV for genotyped bulls.  相似文献

Modern sugarcane cultivars are derived from the interspecific crossing between Saccharum officinarum and wild sugarcane, Saccharum spontaneum. The introgression of valuable characteristics from wild sugarcane is recognized as extremely important, but this process typically requires long-term effort over multiple generations of backcrosses owing to the low sugar content of the initial interspecific hybrids. In this study, we aimed to identify Japanese wild sugarcanes with high juice brix in order to promote effective interspecific crossing of sugarcane. Sixty-four accessions from the Nansei Islands and 70 accessions from the Honshu were evaluated for juice brix. Wild sugarcanes with high juice brix were demonstrated to exist among wild sugarcanes indigenous to the Honshu. A significant difference was observed between the median juice brix values of wild sugarcanes of the Nansei Islands and those of the Honshu. The relationship between juice brix and stem traits was then examined in 20 wild sugarcanes, 10 each from the Nansei Islands and the Honshu. The reproducibility of juice brix value in both experiments was confirmed. In contrast to juice brix, stem traits, such as length, diameter, and volume, were typically smaller in wild sugarcanes from the Honshu. Moreover, a negative correlation was observed between the index of stem volume and juice brix. In this study, we identified outstanding wild sugarcanes with high juice brix. Using germplasms from the identified wild sugarcanes in interspecific crossing could contribute to the increases in both yield and sugar content.  相似文献

Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is an indispensable trait for F1 hybrid seed production in bunching onion (Allium fistulosum L.). Expansion of the cytoplasmic diversity of F1 hybrid cultivars by introduction of various CMS resources has great potential to eliminate vulnerability to cytoplasm type-specific diseases. This study aimed to evaluate appearance frequency of male sterile plants in several bunching onion accessions and to identify CMS resources. In eight (‘Nogiwa Aigara’, ‘Bansei Hanegi’, ‘Amarume’, ‘Kimnung’, ‘Zhangqiu’, ‘INT/CHN/1990/GOTOU’, ‘Natsunegi’ and ‘Guangzhou’) of 135 accessions collected from Japan, China, Mongolia, Korea and Taiwan, male sterile plants appeared with varied frequencies from 1.7% (‘Nogiwa Aigara’ and ‘Bansei Hanegi’) to 24.5% (‘Zhangqiu’). The inheritance mode of Zhangqiu- and Guangzhou-derived male sterility was confirmed to be CMS by sib-crossings and interbreed crossings. Microscopic examination of microsporogenesis in the CMS plants revealed that microspore protoplasm rapidly degenerated without mitotic division after the release of microspores from tetrads. The CMS germplasm described here would be useful for the development of “A” lines to be used in F1 hybrid seed production of bunching onion. Male fertility in ‘Nogiwa Aigara’, ‘Bansei Hanegi’, ‘Kimnung’, ‘INT/CHN/1990/GOTOU’ and ‘Natsunegi’ was verified to be controlled by a single fertility restoration locus.  相似文献

比较了中华虎凤蝶、太白虎凤蝶、乌苏里虎凤蝶和日本虎凤蝶成虫翅面斑纹特征及鳞片超微结构。前翅外缘黄色斑,后翅外缘半月斑、亚外缘红色斑、亚外缘黑色斑、中室黑带及前翅外缘形状和后翅尾突长度等特征在种间有明显差别,是种鉴定的重要依据。鳞片按其形状和结构可分为4种类型,后翅外缘处的青色鳞片具金属光泽,为结构色,其余各色鳞片的结构相同,为色素色。四种虎凤蝶的鳞片超微结构无明显差异。  相似文献

The afferent veins to the liver of 325 adult fowls belonging to ten breeds were investigated by celluloid and neoprene latex casts, and venography. The author elucidates macroscopically the basic pattern of the hepatic portal vein. The right and left portal veins ramify the main branches to the liver, therefore, the intrahepatic distribution is divided into the two portal territories varying in relative size, but this change relates to the development of the medial branch from the right portal vein and the presence of the hepatic fissure.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to estimate the heritability of mastitis incidence and genetic correlations between the mastitis and the somatic cell score (SCS) statistics, and to compare the practicability between different models. We used test‐day records with the mastitis incidence and SCS collected from Holstein cows calving from 1988 to 2015 in Hokkaido, Japan. As indicators of mastitis, the average SCS (avSCS), the standard deviation of SCS (sdSCS), and the maximum SCS (maxSCS) were calculated using test‐day records up to the first 305 days in milk within a lactation. We compared a four‐trait repeatability animal model (MTRP) with a four‐trait multiple‐lactation animal model (MTML). The heritability for mastitis was equal to or lower than 0.05 in all the models. Genetic correlations between lactations with MTML within the same trait were positive and close to 1. With MTRP, the estimated genetic correlations of the mastitis incidence with avSCS, sdSCS, and maxSCS were 0.66, 0.79, and 0.82, respectively. A joint evaluation with SCS statistics is expected to give an extra reliability for mastitis because of high and positive genetic correlations among the traits.  相似文献

Ultrasonic treatment to improve the quality of recycled pulp fiber   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The effect of ultrasound on the quality of recycled fibers was investigated. Ultrasound was applied to recycled pulp fiber suspension before ink removal by conventional flotation. The ultrasonic treatment induced an increase in the sedimentation volume of the fiber, which implies that the flexibility and bulkiness of the fiber increase. The water retention value of the ultrasonically treated fiber recovered from the loss caused by the recycling. These facts are due to a beating effect of the treatment. The paper sheets prepared from the ultrasonically treated fiber suspension showed higher sheet density, tensile strength, and brightness than that from an untreated fiber suspension. The process, which consists of ultrasonic treatment for 1 min following flotation deinking, requires about 1.4 times as much energy as the conventional flotation deinking process, but it induced 20% improvement in brightness. We examined a performance of the multiplicative stomatal conductance model to estimate the stomatal ozone uptake for Fagus crenata. Parameterization of the model was carried out by in-situ measurements in a free-air ozone exposure experiment. The model performed fairly well under ambient conditions, with low ozone concentration. However, the model overestimated stomatal conductance under enhanced ozone condition due to ozone-induced stomatal closure. A revised model that included a parameter representing ozone-induced stomatal closure showed better estimation of ozone uptake. Neglecting ozone-induced stomatal closure induced a 20?% overestimation of the stomatal uptake of ozone. The ozone-induced stomatal closure was closely related to stomatal ozone uptake rather than accumulated concentrations of ozone exceeding 40?nmol mol?1. Our results suggest that ozone-induced stomatal closure should be implemented to stomatal conductance model for estimating ozone uptake for F. crenata. The implementation will contribute to adequate risk assessments of ozone impacts on F. crenata forests in Japan.  相似文献

Insect growth regulators (IGRs) can be developed by elucidating the molecular mechanisms of insect-specific biological events. Because insect molting, and metamorphosis are controlled by ecdysteroids, their biosynthetic pathways can serve as targets for IGR development. The glutathione S-transferase Noppera-bo (Nobo), which is conserved in dipteran and lepidopteran species, plays an essential role in ecdysteroid biosynthesis. Our previous study using 17β-estradiol as a molecular probe revealed that Asp113 of Drosophila melanogaster Nobo (DmNobo) is essential for its biological function. However, to develop IGRs with a greater Nobo inhibitory activity than 17β-estradiol, further structural information is warranted. Here, we report five novel non-steroidal DmNobo inhibitors. Analysis of crystal structures of complexes revealed that DmNobo binds these inhibitors in an Asp113-independent manner. Among amino acid residues at the substrate-recognition site, conformation of conserved Phe39 was dynamically altered upon inhibitor binding. Therefore, these inhibitors can serve as seed compounds for IGR development.  相似文献
