The relative distribution of 22 mineral elements in the roots, nodules and shoots of the soybean (Glycine max L. Merr. cv. Tsurumusume) at R1 (beginning of the flowering stage) and R7 (beginning of the mature stage) was investigated in response to ammonium and manure N treatment. Plants receiving only atmospheric nitrogen served as the negative control. The addition of ammonium sulfate to the soil caused soil acidification, induced Al and Mn toxicities, and significantly reduced the biomass production in roots and nodules. Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn concentrations were significantly higher in shoots, and those of Mo and Co higher in nodules. The addition of manure to the soil significantly enhanced the levels of Sr, Ba, Cr, and Cd in shoots, whereas the concentration of Cs was decreased at R7. Moreover, when the soybean developed from R1 to R7, the levels of essential elements in nodules decreased, whereas those of nonessential elements increased, irrespective of the nitrogen source. Furthermore, the variation in the concentrations of many elements was not consistent for nodules and roots when soybean developed from R1 to R7. The variation of Mn, Zn, B, and Al concentrations was independent of N treatments. However, Ca, Fe, Cu, Mo, and Se levels were affected strongly by N treatments. This study is the first to document the dynamic variation of the soybean ionome in nodules, roots, and shoots from vegetative to reproductive stage of soybean.  相似文献

The gloss of wood is a unique texture compared to that of other materials. To express it quantitatively, two digital-image analyses were performed. One method was multiresolutional contrast analysis, which was the new method developed in this study. The other method was fractal image analysis. Twenty-four specimens, including solid woods, wood-plastic composites (WPCs), printed grains, and granites, were prepared. Digital images of specimens were obtained in five sizes and in two illuminant directions (perpendicular and parallel to the grain). The multiresolutional contrast values of perpendicular illuminated images were calculated and compared among specimens. The result of this quantitative analysis was that the gloss of wood was characterized by bright spots in a relatively small area. Using fractal analysis, the fractal dimension of a digital image was used as an index of brightness changes, not for expressing the self-similarity. These indices showed results similar to those of the multiresolutional contrast analysis.Part of this paper was presented at the 47th annual meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society in Kochi, April 1997  相似文献

ABSTRACT To detect molecules with elicitor properties from Pythium oligandrum, cell wall protein fractions (CWPs) were extracted from 10 P. oligandrum isolates and examined for elicitor activity in sugar beet and wheat. P. oligandrum isolates were divided into two groups based on the number of major proteins in CWP: isolates with two major proteins (D-type) and isolates with one major protein (S-type). Sugar beet seedlings treated with both types of CWP through their roots showed enhanced activities of phenylalanine ammonia lyase and chitinase, and D-type-treated seedlings also showed significantly higher cell wall-bound phenolic compounds, mainly ferulic acid, compared with the distilled-water-treatment control. Damping-off severity was significantly reduced on seedlings treated with both types of CWP compared with the control, following challenge with Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2. Both types of CWP significantly reduced the number of infected spikelets developed from the injected spikelet compared with the control, following challenge with Fusarium graminearum. Neither type of CWP resulted in any reduction in pathogen growth rate in plate tests. These results demonstrate that CWPs of P. oligandrum have elicitor properties in sugar beet and wheat.  相似文献

Avian reovirus (ARV) and avian nephritis virus (ANV) were individually isolated from runty 10-day-old broiler chicks. The ARV isolate, IR-R, the ANV isolate, IR-N, and the reference strain of ANV, G-4260, were inoculated orally into 1-day-old chicks of two specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chicken lines, 151 and PDL-1. Growth retardation without the presence of gross lesions was clearly observed at 7 and 14 days postinoculation (PI) in chicks of both lines inoculated with the IR-R strain. On the other hand, in chicks inoculated with IR-N strain, growth retardation was observed only in the chicks of line 151 at 7 and 14 days PI. Microscopically, nephritis was observed in both chicken lines at 7 and 14 days PI. When chicks that were inoculated with the IR-N strain at 1 day of age were inoculated with the IR-R strain at 3 days of age, growth retardation was observed in the chicks of line PDL-1 at 10 and 17 days PI. However, the growth retardation was less severe than in the group receiving a single inoculation of the IR-R strain.  相似文献

An arterial oxygen tension (PO2) sensor was used to measure the myocardial PO2 at three sites in the left ventricle supplied by the paraconal interventricular branch of the left coronary artery, cranial descending coronary artery (CDCA): a subendocardial site, a subepicardial site and an intermediate point in the left ventricular wall. At first, the PO2 sensor had been compared with the values from a blood gas analyzer. The regression equation Y = 1.4X-4.9 with a correlation coefficient of 0.993 indicated a high correlation between these two measurements. The PO2 of the arterial blood in the left ventricular cavity was assigned an index value of 100%. The PO2 was about 70% in the subendocardial myocardium, about 15% in the mid-ventricular wall myocardium and 9% in the subepicardial myocardium, demonstrating a decreasing PO2 gradient from the endocardial to the epicardial surface. A transient occlusion of the CDCA confirmed the pathway of myocardial oxygen supply. In the mid-ventricular and subepicardial myocardium, marked hypoxia occurred after occlusion of the CDCA. Release of the occlusion resulted in a rapid return to the normal PO2 level. The oxygen supply to these sites is strongly influenced by coronary artery blood flow. The PO2 in the subendocardial myocardium was not dependent on the cranial descending coronary artery. Oxygen appears to be probably supplied through arterial blood in the left ventricle via the endocardium.  相似文献

Recently, an unknown disease, 'sudden death', in calves has been found in Japanese beef production farms. A previous study conducted by Taira and Ura indicated that sudden death can be effected in calves by hyperinfection of Strongyloides papillosus (SPL) and that the disease is possibly caused by SPL infection. In the present work, an experimental infection of SPL in calves was conducted to confirm the field occurrence. Fifteen Holstein Friesian calves, ranging from 45.5 to 85.6 kg in body weight, were divided into six groups. Calves of Groups A, B, C, D, E and F were infected once at the rate of 100,000, 320,000, 1,000,000, 3,200,000, 10,000,000 and 32,000,000 SPL larvae per 100 kg of body weight, respectively. Five calves were assigned to Group B, while two calves were assigned to the other groups. After showing no premonitory signs, sudden death of ten calves took place. The survival time of these calves was 27.4 and 16.8 days (Group B), 14.8 and 14.8 days (Group C), 13.3 and 14.2 days (Group D), 11.0 and 11.1 days (Group E) and 11.6 and 10.8 days (Group F). Three calves of Group B did not exhibit sudden death. The results of this study demonstrate that strongyloidiasis was the cause of sudden death.  相似文献

A 17-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat was referred for evaluation of severe skin lesions, including ulceration, nodule formation, erythema, and alopecia. Cutaneous nonepitheliotropic lymphoma was diagnosed histologically. There was no evidence of visceral organ involvement, but renal function was decreased. The cat was treated with lomustine (45.5 mg/m2, PO, q 21 d), and skin lesions resolved after administration of the third dose. No severe toxicoses were identified. Results suggest that lomustine may be useful for treatment of cutaneous nonepitheliotropic lymphoma in cats; however, optimal dosage, efficacy, and potential adverse effects must be determined.  相似文献
