Ten commercial varieties of winter wheat were sampled at different stages of growth, and dry mailer (DM) yields and potential nutritional quality, as determined by modified acid detergent fibre concentration (MADF), were measured. Maximum yields for the different varieties were spread over a four-week period, when the DM content was above 350 g kg−1 . When the varieties were harvested for conservation as either fermented (DM 380 g kg−1 ) or alkaline (DM 580 g kg−1 ) whole crop, the mean MADF concentration was similar at both harvests, with large differences recorded between varieties. At both harvests the quality of the crops was sharply increased by raising the cutting height from 10 to 40 cm above ground level. 相似文献

Radiography is the most commonly applied imaging modality in equine practice and forms an essential part of the diagnostic work-up of lame horses. Radiographic signs of musculoskeletal pathology are frequently localized at sites of soft tissue attachment, which are often not clearly visible on radiographs. Different lesions carry different prognoses and require a variety of treatments, and a good knowledge of the position of the synovial structures in the distal limb of the horse is essential for practitioners in the interpretation of radiographs. This study describes a new technique for creating three-dimensional (3D) models of the synovial structures and superimposing them onto radiographs for the purpose of teaching radiographic anatomy. A set of standard radiographs was acquired of the metacarpophalangeal and the distal interphalangeal joints of a fresh cadaver leg while the leg was positioned in a material-testing machine to mimic the weight-bearing horse. Computed tomography of the same regions was performed after injection of negative contrast medium into the joints. 3D reconstructions of the joints were created using grayscale thresholding and polynomial surface meshing in Mimics. The resulting 3D reconstructions were superimposed on top of the radiographs using Adobe© Photoshop© CS3 Extended, thus allowing the visualization of the joint anatomy in relation to the bone on all projections. The main advantage of this technique is that it allows synovial structures to be visualized on radiographs where they are normally indistinct, which will serve as a teaching aid for anatomy. 相似文献

SUMMARY Three Quarter Horse stallions and 5 of their 11 tested progeny were diagnosed as affected with the inherited autosomal dominant defect hyperkalaemic periodic paralysis in Victoria in 1992. The diagnoses were based on the appearance of clinical signs and associated increased plasma potassium concentrations in response to oral potassium loading. All affected horses were descendants of the American Quarter Horse Impressive. Indirect evidence indicates that at least 3 other affected Quarter Horse stallions have stood or are standing at stud in Australia. The clinical details of the affected horses are described and the size of the affected population in Australia is discussed. 相似文献

The anesthetic, hemodynamic, and respiratory effects of an intravenously administered 1:1 combination of tiletamine and zolazepam were evaluated in dogs. Each dog received tiletamine-zolazepam (6.6, 13.2, 19.8 mg/kg) on two occasions, once when awake and a second time with residual isoflurane anesthesia while instrumented for the recording of hemodynamic data. Tiletamine-zolazepam administered to conscious dogs resulted in good, rapid induction of anesthesia. Time to sternal recumbency (recovery) was dose-dependent. Character of recovery tended to be better with the lower dose. Tiletamine-zolazepam caused significant increases in heart rate after all doses and significant increases in cardiac output after the two larger doses. All doses caused significant decreases in arterial blood pressure at 1 minute. Arterial blood pressures returned to baseline and then increased significantly above baseline values. The rate of development of left ventricular pressure was significantly decreased 1 minute after the two higher doses, returned to normal, and then was significantly increased above baseline for all doses. Peripheral vascular resistance increased transiently 1 minute after the 6.6 mg/kg dose. Peripheral vascular resistance decreased significantly after the 13.2 and 19.8 mg/kg doses. Minute ventilation was significantly decreased only after the 19.8 mg/kg dose. 相似文献

ABSTRACT When studies of industrial organisation are informed by commodity chain, actor network, or global production network theories and focus on tracing commodity flows, social networks, or a combination of the two, they can easily overlook the less routine trans‐sectoral associations that are crucial to the creation and realisation of value. This paper shifts attention to identifying the sites at which diverse specialisations meet to concentrate and amplify mutually reinforcing circuits of value. These valorisation processes are demonstrated in the case of Australian Fashion Week, an event in which multiple interests converge to synchronize different expressions of fashion ideas, actively construct fashion markets and enhance the value of a diverse range of fashionable commodities. Conceptualising these interconnected industries as components of a trans‐sectoral fashion complex has implications for understanding regional development, world cities, production location, and the manner in which production systems “touch down” in different places. 相似文献

Objective —To determine risk of failure of the Synthes 4.5-mm cannulated screw system instrumentation in equine bone and to compare its application with the Synthes 4.5-mm standard cortex screw system.
Study Design —The maximum insertion torque of the cannulated and standard cortex screw systems were compared with the ultimate torsional strengths of the equipment. Pullout strength and ultimate tensile load of cannulated and standard cortex screws were also determined.
Sample Population—Paired equine cadaver third metacarpal and third carpal bones.
Methods —Maximum insertion torque and ultimate torsional strengths were determined by using an axial-torsional, servohydraulic materials testing system and a hand-held torquometer. Pullout tests were performed by using a servohydraulic materials testing system.
Results —Maximum insertion torque of all cannulated instrumentation was less than ultimate torsional strength at all locations ( P < .05). Maximum insertion torques of cannulated taps and screws were greater than for standard taps and screws in the third carpal bone ( P < .002). Pullout strength of the cannulated screws was less than the standard cortex screws at all sites ( P < .001). Cannulated screws broke before bone failure in all but one bone specimen. Conclusions—The risk of cannulated instrument or screw failure during insertion into bone is theoretically low. The relatively low pullout strength of the cannulated screws implies that the interfragmentary compression achievable is likely to be less than with standard cortex screws. Clinical Relevance—The relatively low pullout strength of the cannulated screw suggests that its risk of failure during fracture repair is greater than with the standard cortex screw. 相似文献

The hemodynamic and respiratory effects of three doses (9.7, 15.8, and 23.7 mg/kg intravenous [IV]) of a 1:1 combination of tiletamine and zolazepam were studied after isoflurane anesthesia in cats instrumented for the recording of hemodynamic data. Systolic, mean, and diastolic arterial blood pressures were decreased 1 minute after drug administration but then increased above baseline with all three doses. Cardiac output was decreased briefly at 1 minute with the 15.8 and 23.7 mg/kg doses. The rate of development of left ventricular pressure and peripheral vascular resistance decreased at 1 minute but returned to baseline or above by 10 minutes. There were no significant changes in heart rate, central venous pressure, or left ventricular end diastolic pressure. The arterial pH and blood gas measurements reflected the development of respiratory acidosis after administration of 23.7 mg/kg. These results support the conclusions that tiletamine-zolazepam administered intravenously is a useful and comparatively safe anesthetic agent in the cat. 相似文献
