Hydraulic retention time (HRT) influence improving sludge flocculation with adding the polyelectrolytes (non-ionic, anionic, and cationic) was studied on an activated sludge (AS) system fed with synthetic domestic wastewater (SDW), dairy industry wastewater (DIW), and caramel industry wastewater (CIW). The sludge volumetric index, food/microorganism ratio (F/M), and mixed liquor volatile suspended solids at different HRTs (6, 8 and 10 h) were monitored on an experimental model. Results showed that both SDW and IW had the best sludge flocculation conditions at 8 h and 100 mL of non-ionic polyelectrolyte (0.2 mg L?1). In addition, this phenomenon reached the organic matter removal efficiencies of 95.9, 95.7, and 94.2% for SDW, DIW, and CIW, respectively. Therefore, optimum HRT increased the organic matter removal efficiencies by 10%, sludge concentration by 37% (22–55%), and F/M ratio by 70%. Adult Rana pipiens pipiens (Shreber) are highly sensitive to insecticidal α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl esters administered subcutaneously, i.e., LD50 0.13–0.35 mg/kg for deltamethrin and the most potent isomer of each of cis-cypermethrin, fenpropathrin, and fenvalerate and 0.65 mg/kg for (1R,αS)-trans-cypermethrin. Pyrethroids lacking the α-cyano substituent [pyrethrins, S-bioallethrin, kadethrin, and the Cis- and trans-isomers of (1R)-tetramethrin, (1RS)-resmethrin, (1R)-phenothrin, and (1R)-permethrin] vary greatly in their toxicity (LD50 0.14 to > 60 mg/kg) and the trans isomers are much less toxic than the corresponding cis isomers. The trans/cis specificity is due in large part to relative detoxification rates based on synergism studies with the resmethrin and permèthrin isomers and liver pyrethroid esterase assays with the permethrin and cypermethrin isomers. Poisoning by the noncyano compounds involves hyperactivity and tremors whereas by the cyanophenoxybenzyl esters involves tonic seizures and choreoathetosis, i.e., types I and II syndromes, respectively. Picrotoxinin, t-butylbicyclophosphate, and five other small cage compounds give a third type of syndrome with clonic seizures. Diazepam and its 2′-fluoro-4-methyl-4,5-dihydro analog (RO 5-3636) are more effective than 23 other compounds tested in protecting against deltamethrin toxicity. Diazepam is most effective in alleviating the Type II syndrome, intermediate with the type I syndrome, and is not active with picrotoxinin. 相似文献

Neutral landscape models were originally developed to test the hypothesis that human-induced fragmentation produces patterns
distinctly different from those associated with random processes. Other uses for neutral models have become apparent, including
the development and testing of landscape metrics to characterize landscape pattern. Although metric development proved to
be significant, the focus on metrics obscured the need for iterative hypothesis testing fundamental to the advancement of
the discipline. We present here an example of an alternative neutral model and hypothesis designed to relate the process of
landscape change to observed landscape patterns. The methods and program, QRULE, are described and options for statistical
testing outlined. The results show that human fragmentation of landscapes results in a non-random association of land-cover
types that can be describe by simple statistical methods. Options for additional landscape studies are discussed and access
to QRULE described in the hope that these methods will be employed to advance our understanding of the processes that affect
the structure and function in human dominated landscapes. 相似文献

Grazing management is important for sustaining the productivity and health of rangelands. However, the effects of grazing management on herbage growth and species composition in the tropical savannas of northern Australia are not well known. In this eight-year study the influences of utilization rate and resting pastures from grazing on vegetation dynamics were measured at three sites in northeast Queensland, Australia. The sites had high, medium, and low soil fertility, and there were two land condition classes (States I and II) at each site. Severe drought occurred during the first four years, but above-average rainfall was received in the second half of the study. High utilization rates reduced biomass, perennial grass basal area, and ground cover. The reduction in biomass was due to both higher consumption and decreased primary production. State I condition plots at the high and medium soil fertility sites were initially dominated by decreaser perennial grasses, but these declined at all utilization levels, particularly the high rate. They were largely replaced by exotic perennial grasses. At the low fertility site there were no exotic grasses, and the decreaser grasses increased in all treatments, with the increases greatest in plots with low utilization or medium utilization plus resting. In the State II condition plots at the high and medium fertility sites, low or moderate utilization, led to an increase in both decreaser and exotic perennial grasses; with high utilization the decreaser perennial grasses declined and were replaced largely by exotic perennial grasses. This study clearly demonstrated that either conservative stocking with year-round grazing or a grazing system that includes some wet-season resting will help maintain land in a desirable state or help facilitate the transition from a less desirable ecological state to one more desirable for pastoral production and rangeland condition. 相似文献

The inhibition of eel acetylcholinesterase by the 4-nitrophenyl esters of 2-furyl(methyl)-, methyl(2-thienyl)-, di-2-furyl-, and di-2-thienylphosphinic acid (I, II, III, and IV, respectively) was investigated at pH 6.90 in 0.067 M phosphate buffer (25.0°C) using stopped-flow instrumentation and automated data processing. Our evaluation of the dissociation constant, Kd, the unimolecular bonding rate constant, k2, and the bimolecular reaction constant, ki, are the first reported values for these constants for alkyl/heteroaryl and diheteroaryl esters of phosphinic acids. The largest ki value (19,330 M?1 sec?1) was observed for the reaction of I with the enzyme. The order for the remaining three is II > IV > III. There is no direct relationship between the hydrolysis rates of the esters and their anticholinesterase activities on eel acetylcholinesterase. RNA silencing pathways in filamentous fungi are composed of multiple component proteins and known to be involved in vegetative growth, virulence or sexual reproduction. We found that the tomato wilt fungus, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (Fol), carries four homologues genes of Qde-2, an argonaute protein gene and one of the main component protein genes in Neurospora crassa. Gene targeting revealed that FoQde-2, one of the Qde-2 homologues in Fol, is involved in virulence to tomato but not in vegetative growth. 相似文献

Although swine origin A/H1N1/2009 influenza virus (hereafter "pH1N1″) has been detected in swine in 20 countries, there has been no published surveillance of the virus in African livestock. The objective of this study was to assess the circulation of influenza A viruses, including pH1N1 in swine in Cameroon, Central Africa. We collected 108 nasal swabs and 98 sera samples from domestic pigs randomly sampled at 11 herds in villages and farms in Cameroon. pH1N1 was isolated from two swine sampled in northern Cameroon in January 2010. Sera from 28% of these herds were positive for influenza A by competitive ELISA and 92.6% of these swine showed cross reactivity with pandemic A/H1N1/2009 influenza virus isolated from humans. These results provide the first evidence of this virus in the animal population in Africa. In light of the significant role of swine in the ecology of influenza viruses, our results call for greater monitoring and study in Central Africa. 相似文献
