The concentrations of 19 odorants, recently characterized by GC-olfactometry and aroma extract dilution analysis as the most odor-active compounds in raw hazelnuts, were quantitated by stable isotope dilution assays (SIDA). Calculation of odor activity values (OAV) on the basis of odor thresholds in oil revealed high OAVs, in particular for linalool, 5-methyl-4-heptanone, 2-methoxy-3,5-dimethylpyrazine, and 4-methylphenol. A model mixture in sunflower oil containing the 13 odorants showing OAVs above 1 in their natural concentrations resulted in a good similarity compared to the overall nut-like, fruity aroma of the raw hazelnuts. Quantitation of the 25 most odor-active compounds in roasted hazelnut paste by SIDA showed clear changes in the concentrations of most odorants, and formation of new odor-active compounds induced by the roasting process was observed. The highest OAVs were calculated for 3-methylbutanal (malty), 2,3-pentanedione (buttery), 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (popcorn), and (Z)-2-nonenal (fatty), followed by dimethyl trisulfide, 2-furfurylthiol, 2,3-butanedione, and 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone. The aroma of a model mixture containing the 19 odorants with OAVs above 1 in their actual concentrations in the roasted nut material was judged to elicit a very good similarity to the popcorn-like, coffee-like, and sweet-smoky aroma of the roasted hazelnut paste. New SIDAs were developed for the quantitation of 5-methyl-4-heptanone, 5-methyl-(E)-2-hepten-4-one, 2-thenylthiol, and 3,5,5-trimethyl-2(5H)-furanone. 相似文献

The adsorption of copper, chromate, and arsenate (CCA)onto iron-oxide-coated sand (IOCS) was examined insingle-metal and mixed-metal systems. Copper andarsenate were strongly adsorbed or formed inner-spheresurface complexes with the IOCS surface while chromatewas weakly adsorbed or formed an outer-sphere surfacecomplex with the IOCS surface. Copper adsorption byIOCS slightly increased in the presence of arsenatebut was not affected by the presence of chromate. Arsenate adsorption was not affected by the presenceof copper and/or chromate. Chromate adsorptionincreased in the presence of copper by the combinationof electrostatic effects and possiblesurface-copper-chromate ternary complex formation. The presence of arsenate significantly decreasedchromate adsorption due to competition for adsorptionsites and electrostatic effects. Using inner-spheresurface complexation constants for copper and arsenateand outer-sphere surface complexation constants forchromate, the triple-layer model (TLM) was successfulin describing adsorption of copper, chromate, andarsenate in single-solute systems. The modelindicated that each metal uses a different number ofadsorption sites. For CCA metals-IOCS systems, theequilibrium constants determined from single-solutesystems were not able to predict adsorption frommulti-solute systems. Material balances of agricultural soil - A method for early recognition of soil alterations For agricultural soils of a lowland region in Switzerland the input and output of the elements nitrogen, phosphorus, copper, zinc, cadmium and lead were measured over two years. In spite of the fact that the emission standards are met there is a slow and steady increase of the P, Cu, Zn and Pb concentrations found in the plough layer. In accordance with the principle of prevention the metabolism of the soil should be controlled on a large scale in such a way that this concentration increase can be substantially reduced within decades. With the available analytical methods the observed concentration increases in the soil are clearly detectable only after decades. Regional annual material balancing of the relevant anthropogenic processes (farming, private households, industry and trade), however, allows early detection of small changes in concentration. Considerable differences observed in the home-range size of individual three-toed woodpeckers (Picoides tridactylus) may be linked to variation in resource availability. We used radio-telemetry to test this hypothesis in an alpine mountain forest in southeastern Germany between 1994 and 2000. Stepwise backward multiple-regression showed that adaptive kernel home-range size using 95% use distribution (n=24 woodpeckers) was positively related to forest extent and tree-species diversity. Conversely, we found smaller home ranges with increasing density of potential cavity trees, and with increasing dbh-range of trees at breast height. The habitat variables shown to effect home range selection were attributes of mature boreal forests. This implied that maintaining a boreal-like habitat (i.e. spruce-dominated autochthonous forests including their natural disturbance regime) would be the best option for successful conservation of the alpine subspecies of the three-toed woodpecker. 相似文献

Distance sampling methods assume that distances are known but in practice there are often errors in measuring them. These
can have substantial impact on the bias and precision of distance sampling estimators. In this paper we develop methods that
accommodate both systematic and stochastic measurement errors. We use the methods to estimate detection probability in two
surveys with substantial measurement error. The first is a shipboard line transect survey in the North Sea in which information
on measurement error comes from photographically measured distances to a subset of detections. The second is an aerial cue-counting
survey off Iceland in which information on measurement error comes from pairs of independently estimated distances to a subset
of detections. Different methods are required for measurement error estimation in the two cases. We investigate by simulation
the properties of the new estimators and compare them to conventional estimators. They are found to perform better than conventional
estimators in the presence of measurement error, more so in the case of cue-counting and point transect estimators than line

Summary Discriminating styles (DS) in Petunia hybrida discriminate among incompatible pollen sources with pollen-mediated pseudo-self compatibility (PMPSC) similarly to those in Nemesia strumosa. Both species exhibit a single-locus gametophytic self-incompatibility system. Correlation of PMPSC to PSC level of the male was not universal and DS/PMPSC operated in heterozygous S genotypes. The influence of immature municipal solid waste-biosolids composts on emergence and mean days to emergence (MDE) of several weed species was evaluated in a pot trial under greenhouse conditions. The experiment consisted of placing a 7.5 cm deep layer of three-day-old immature compost, a mature and stable compost, an artificial medium or control sand as a mulch on ivyleaf morning glory seeds. Immature three-day-old compost decreased percentage emergence, shoot and root dry weight, and increased MDE of ivyleaf morning glory. In an experiment with eight-week-old immature compost utilizing mulching depths of 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 cm and the untreated control on seeds of three weed species, common purslane did not emerge under any of the immature compost treatments. The MDE of ivyleaf morning glory and barnyard grass increased linearly as immature compost depths increased. Next, eight economically important weed species were sown in pots with either mature or immature (eight-week-old) compost utilizing mulching depths of 2.5 and 10 cm, in addition to an untreated control. Control pots yielded higher percentages of emergence than compost treatments for all species evaluated. Common purslane, large crabgrass, pig-weed, Florida beggarweed, and dichondra did not emerge through a 10-cm deep layer of mature compost mulch, or 2.5 or 10 cm deep layer of immature mulch. Significant compost maturity/depth interactions were observed for percent emergence on common purslane, ground cherry, large crabgrass, Florida beggarweed, and ivyleaf morning glory. A thinner layer was required to suppress germination using immature eight-week-old compost as compared to mature and stable compost. Immature (three-day or eight-week-old) compost containing acetic acid concentrations of 2474 and 1776 mg.kg?1 respectively reduced percentage emergence of several economically important weed species. These studies suggest that immature composts can be used to control weeds under conditions where spatial separation is maintained between the crop and the compost and phytotoxic fermentation products do not affect the health of the mulched plants and where odors associated with such partially stabilized products do not pose problems. 相似文献
