An experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential of a Bacillus subtilis E20‐fermented mixture (FSFEM) containing soybean meal (SBM) and Eisenia fetida earthworm meal (EM) at a ratio of 4:1 to increase the methionine level in order to satisfy the methionine requirement of white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei in a diet with fish meal (FM) completely replaced by mixtures. B. subtilis E20 fermentation improved the mixture's palatability and utilization based on better growth performance in comparison to shrimp fed FSEM (contains fermented SBM and EM at a ratio of 4:1) diets. FSFEM is a good substitute for FM. Maximal replacement levels of FM with FSFEM were 80% in a shrimp diet with 37% of crude protein and 7% of crude lipid based on weight gain and 100% based on feeding efficiency. In addition, shrimp fed experimental diets had no significant differences in survival after being challenged by Vibrio alginolyticus. It is suggested that B. subtilis E20‐FSFEM has the potential to replace FM in cultured shrimp diets.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) and fish oil (FO) exert anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) action on tumors. This study aimed to compare the anti-cancer efficacy of EGFR inhibitors (gefitinib and erlotinib) alone and in combination with nutritional supplements of Se/FO in treating lung cancer. Lewis LLC1 tumor-bearing mice were treated with a vehicle or Se/FO, gefitinib or gefitinib plus Se/FO, and erlotinib or erlotinib plus Se/FO. The tumors were assessed for mRNA and protein expressions of relevant signaling molecules. Untreated tumor-bearing mice had the lowest body weight and highest tumor weight and volume of all the mice. Mice receiving the combination treatment with Se/FO and gefitinib or erlotinib had a lower tumor volume and weight and fewer metastases than did those treated with gefitinib or erlotinib alone. The combination treatment exhibited greater alterations in receptor signaling molecules (lower EGFR/TGF-β/TβR/AXL/Wnt3a/Wnt5a/FZD7/β-catenin; higher GSK-3β) and immune checkpoint molecules (lower PD-1/PD-L1/CD80/CTLA-4/IL-6; higher NKp46/CD16/CD28/IL-2). These mouse tumors also had lower angiogenesis, cancer stemness, epithelial to mesenchymal transitions, metastases, and proliferation of Ki-67, as well as higher cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. These preliminary results showed the Se/FO treatment enhanced the therapeutic efficacies of gefitinib and erlotinib via modulating multiple signaling pathways in an LLC1-bearing mouse model.  相似文献

Chemical composition of fog and rain water was studied during a 47-day experimental period. The differences between the fog and rain water were found to be significantly for most analyzed ions. H+, NH4 +, NO3 ?, and SO4 2? made up 85% of the total median ion concentration in fog and 84% in rain water. The total mean equivalent concentration was 15 times higher in the fog than in the rain water. The fog water samples were classified according to their air mass history. The analysis of the 120 h backward trajectory led to the identification of three advection regimes. Significant differences of ion concentrations between the respective classes were found. Air masses of class I travelled exclusively over the Pacific Ocean, class II were carried over the Philippines, and class III were advected from mainland China. The turbulent fog water deposition was determined by the means of the eddy covariance method. The total (turbulent plus gravitational) fog water fluxes ranged between +31.7 mg m?2 s?1 and ?56.6 mg m?2 s?1. Fog water droplets with mean diameters between 15 μm and 25 μm contributed most to the liquid water flux. The sample based nutrient input was calculated on the basis of the occult and wet deposition, and the concentrations of the simultaneously collected fog and rainwater samples, respectively. The nutrient input through wet deposition was about 13 times higher than through occult deposition.  相似文献

In this study, catch and effort data of southern bluefin tuna (SBT) from Taiwan longliners operating in the Central Indian Ocean (CIO) during 1982 to 2003 were compiled and their catch per unit effort (CPUE) was standardized using the generalized linear model (GLM). The GLM includes factors such as year, season, by-catch, latitude, sea surface temperature (SST) and the interactive effects among factors. The standardized CPUE and its relationship with SST fluctuation were then analyzed to understand the effects of fishing ground SST variations on CPUE of SBT, as well as their connection to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events. The standardized CPUE in the CIO seemed to oscillate with the sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) between 30 and 50°S where SSTA fluctuations were prolonged and slower than the ENSO cycle. It is then very likely that fishing conditions at the CIO fishing ground were influenced by the expansion of the cold water mass from the Southern Ocean, and the colder SST is beneficial to increasing SBT catch rate.  相似文献

The environmental degradation of a mixture of domoic acid (DA) and kainic acid (KA) in seawater with and without added transition metals is reported. The association constants for kainic acid with Fe (III) and Cu (II) were determined using (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR; K1,Fe(III) = 2.27 x 10(12), K2,Fe(III) = 8.99 x 10(8), K1,Cu(II) = 1.38 x 10(10), and K2,Cu(II) = 4.35 x 10(7)). The photochemical half-life of kainic acid has been determined to be significantly longer (40-100 h) than that of domoic acid in corresponding marine systems (12-34 h). The significance of this finding was highlighted by a comparison of the quantification of a mixture of kainic and domoic acids during photodegradation by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) techniques and the widely used competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA; Biosense Laboratories) method. The MS-based analysis showed that approximately 50% of the DA was photodegraded within 15 h. In contrast, the domoic acid cELISA assay reported that the concentration essentially remained unchanged over this period. The possibility of interference from naturally occurring kainic acid during cELISA measurements could lead to the overestimation of total domoic acid, especially if they occur in mixtures in sunlit waters.  相似文献

111In-DTPA octreotide (DTPAOC) has been used for detecting somatostatin receptor positive tumor for years. In-111 DOTA-Tyr3-octreotide (DOTATOC) is newly developed for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. In this study, we compared the biodistribution and tumor uptake ratio after injection of In-111 DTPAOC and In-111 DOTATOC in rats. Twelve rats bearing pancreatic tumors were divided into two groups: six rats were sacrificed at 4 hr after injection of 3.7 MBq of In-111 DTPAOC and another 6 rats were sacrificed at the same time after injection of 3.7 MBq of In-111 DOTATOC. Samples of various organs were obtained and counted to calculate the tissue concentration. In addition, 12 rats bearing pancreatic tumors were scanned at 4, 24, and 48 hr after injection of 37 MBq of In-111 DTPAOC or In-111 DOTATOC. The tumor uptake ratios (T/N ratio) were calculated. The biodistribution data showed that the activity in the tumor as well as in the kidney was significantly higher in the In-111 DOTATOC group than in the In-111 DTPAOC group, although both radiopharmaceuticals had the expected high affinity to the tumor. The T/N ratios in the In-111 DOTATOC group were also significantly higher than those in the In-111 DTPAOC group at 24 hr after injection. We conclude that In-111 DOTATOC showed lower clearance than In-111 DTPAOC in the rats bearing pancreatic tumors, although both of these radiopharmaceuticals showed expected high tumor uptake.  相似文献

From the 4 August through 22 September 2006, the turbulent vertical fluxes of CO2 and water vapor were measured above a cypress tree (Chamaecyparis species) plantation within the subtropical mountain cloud forest range of NE Taiwan. The study site is characterized by a high frequency of orographic fog. During the day, humid air is transported uphill and causes condensation and fog as it cools. CO2 and water vapor fluxes were measured on two instrumented micrometeorological towers aligned along the valley axis. Despite the large reduction of solar radiation during foggy conditions by 64% as compared to clear situations, the reduction of the CO2 uptake is rather small at tower 1, for which Chamaecyparis is the dominating species within the footprint area. The Chamaecyparis species perform well under these extreme conditions of reduced light. A large section of the footprint area of tower 2 is vegetated with Cryptomeria japonica. CO2 flux comparison at both towers during foggy and non-foggy conditions, and direct tower-totower comparisons showed a significant difference statistically in the CO2 fluxes. While the photosynthesis rate of Chamaecyparis was hardly reduced during fog that of Cryptomeria japonica decreased strongly during foggy conditions. Cryptomeria japonica is less well adapted to the low light conditions. The net water vapor flux was dominated by evaporation of intercepted fog. Transpiration contributed only little to the water vapor flux during the 7-week experimental field study.  相似文献

Adlay (Coix lachryma-jobi L. var. ma-yuen Stapf) seeds have long been used to treat warts, chapped skin, rheumatism, and neuralgia in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Recently, studies demonstrated its anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, antitumor, and antiallergic activities. In the present study, we first report the gastroprotective effects of dehulled adlay (DA) seeds, which consist of bran (AB) and endosperm (AE). The DA ethanolic extract (DAE) was prepared, along with the AB and AE ethanolic extracts (ABE and AEE), and the inhibitory effects of these extracts were tested on the AGS gastric cancer cell line. Results indicated that the ABE showed better antiproliferative activity, and 19 compounds were purified from AB in a further phenolic-compound-guided separation. Among the isolated compounds, caffeic and chlorogenic acids significantly suppressed the growth of AGS cells. In addition, the antiulcer activity of DA was examined in an indomethacin-induced gastric lesion model. The ulcer index (UI) and oxidative biomarkers in animals decreased, while the non-protein sulfhydryl (NPSH) groups were elevated when given DA. This is the first investigation of antiulcer activity of adlay, and we demonstrated that the antioxidative-active phenolic acids in DA contribute to some portion of the gastroprotective effects.  相似文献
