This study was performed to investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of
resveratrol (RES) against CdCl2-induced toxicity in rat testes. Seven
experimental groups of adult male rats were formulated as follows: A) controls+NS, B)
control+vehicle (saline solution of hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin), C) RES treated, D)
CdCl2+NS, E) CdCl2+vehicle, F) RES followed by CdCl2
and M) CdCl2 followed by RES. At the end of the protocol, serum levels of FSH,
LH and testosterone were measured in all groups, and testicular levels of TBARS and
superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured. Epididymal semen analysis was
performed, and testicular expression of Bcl-2, p53 and Bax was assessed by RT-PCR. Also,
histopathological changes of the testes were examined microscopically. Administration of
RES before or after cadmium chloride in rats improved semen parameters including count,
motility, daily sperm production and morphology, increased serum concentrations of
gonadotropins and testosterone, decreased testicular lipid peroxidation and increased SOD
activity. RES not only attenuated cadmium chloride-induced testicular histopathology but
was also able to protect against the onset of cadmium chloride testicular toxicity.
Cadmium chloride downregulated the anti-apoptotic gene Bcl2 and upregulated the expression
of pro-apoptotic genes p53 and Bax. Resveratrol protected against and partially reversed
cadmium chloride testicular toxicity via upregulation of Bcl2 and downregulation of p53
and Bax gene expression. The antioxidant activity of RES protects against cadmium chloride
testicular toxicity and partially reverses its effect via upregulation of BCl2 and
downregulation of p53 and Bax expression. 相似文献
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a degenerative brain disorder characterized by a progressive decline in memory and cognition, mostly affecting the elderly. Numerous functional bioactives have been reported in marine organisms, and anti-Alzheimer’s agents derived from marine resources have gained attention as a promising approach to treat AD pathogenesis. Marine sterols have been investigated for several health benefits, including anti-cancer, anti-obesity, anti-diabetes, anti-aging, and anti-Alzheimer’s activities, owing to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Marine sterols interact with various proteins and enzymes participating via diverse cellular systems such as apoptosis, the antioxidant defense system, immune response, and cholesterol homeostasis. Here, we briefly overview the potential of marine sterols against the pathology of AD and provide an insight into their pharmacological mechanisms. Twelve wheat varieties were studied for their phytic acid, calcium, iron, zinc, copper and phosphorus contents, which respectively ranged between 114–166, 25.1–53.5, 3.41–5.55, 0.71–3.00, 0.65–1.32 and 298–314 mg/100 g. The molar ratios as Ca:Phy, Phy:Fe, Phy:Zn, Phy:Cu were found to be 0.14–0.29, 1.96–3.86, 5.11–20.5 and 13.0–23.9, respectively. Significant dephytinization, ranging between 35.3 and 69.3% in different varieties, was achieved on exogenous enzymatic treatment. Enzymatic dephytinization in the in vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion resulted in significant increase in the bioavailability of essential minerals. The increase in bioavailability of calcium, iron, zinc and copper on exogenous enzymatic dephytinization ranged between, respectively (x-folds): 1.30–1.96, 1.11–1.52, 1.22–1.78 and 1.11–1.73. 相似文献
Mycoplasma ovis (formerly Eperythrozoon ovis) is an epierythrocytic parasitic bacterium of small ruminants known as haemotropic mycoplasma, which is transmitted mechanically by biting flies and contaminated instruments. Acute mycoplasmosis causes severe haemolytic anaemia and mortality in young animals. At the same time, chronic disease may produce mild anaemia and varying degrees of morbidity depending on several factors, including age, reproductive status, the plane of nutrition, immunological status and the presence of concurrent infection. Haemotropic Mycoplasma ovis is currently recognised as an emerging zoonotic pathogen which is widely distributed in the sheep and goat producing areas of tropics and subtropics, where the disease is nearly endemic. Human infection has been reported in pregnant women, immunocompromised patients and people exposed to animals and arthropods. The current diagnosis of haemoplasma relies on microscopic evaluation of Giemsa-stained blood smear and PCR. Although there are few published reports on the incidence of haemotropic Mycoplasma ovis infection of small ruminants in Malaysia, information on its prevalence, risk factors, severity and economic impacts is grossly inadequate. Therefore, a large-scale survey of small ruminant flocks is necessary to elucidate the current seroprevalence status and molecular characteristics of haemotropic M. ovis infection in Malaysia using ELISA and PCR sequencing technologies. In the future, surveillance programs, including vector forecast, quarantine, monitoring by periodic surveys and public enlightenment, will limit the internal and transboundary spread of M. ovis, enhance control efforts and mitigate production losses in Malaysia.
Temporal dynamics of nutrient densities, their interrelationships, and remobilization from leaves to seeds of cuphea were quantified in growth chamber and field studies. Temporal nutrient densities in leaf samples exhibited large levels of variation, whether remobilized and largely accumulated in the seed [copper, (Cu), potassium (K), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and zinc (Zn)], remobilized and accumulated in the seed coat [boron (B), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), and sodium (Na)] or almost excluded from the seed [barium (Ba), selenium (Se) and strontium (Sr)]. The temporal seed-to-leaf nutrient density “[S]/[L]” ratios and the proportion of variance unique to each nutrient separated the nutrients into a group (Cu, Fe, S, and Zn) with large [S]/[L] ratios and large unique variances, and another group (B, Ca, Mg, Mn and Sr) with small [S]/[L] ratios and small unique variances; the first group was selectively stored in the developing embryo. Nutrients with large densities in leaves at harvest may constitute a resource potentially available for subsequent crops. 相似文献

To study the effect of foliar application of urea fertilizer on the growth and yield of tomato and to find out the optimum
concentration of foliar application of urea for maximum growth and yield of tomato, an experiment was conducted with different
concentrations of foliar application of urea fertilizer, namely, 2500, 5000, 7500, and 10000 ppm. The experiment was laid
out by a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Results showed that different yield components and
yield of tomato were influenced by the foliar application of different concentrations of urea. The maximum plant height (132.6
cm), number of leaves (30.73), number of green leaves per plant at harvest (21.08), days to first flowering (28.94), number
of flower clusters (11.89), number of flowers (75.18), fruit clusters (5.81), fruits per cluster (4.14), and fruits per plant
(21.49); length (4.72 cm), diameter (6.58 cm), and weight of individual fruit (151.0 g) were significantly influenced by the
10000 ppm concentration of foliar application of urea fertilizer. The 10000 ppm application gave the highest yield (63.69
t/hm2) with the lowest (28.48 t/hm2) in the control treatment. The yield per plant as well as per hectare increased with increasing concentrations of foliar
