Niemann-Pick type C disease (NP-C) is a rare and ultimately fatal lysosomal storage
disorder with variable neurologic symptoms. Loss of neuronal function and neuronal cell
death occur in the NP-C brain, similar to the findings for other neurodegenerative
diseases. Targeting of neuronal cells in the brain therefore represents a potential
clinical intervention strategy to reduce the rate of disease progression and improve the
quality of life. We previously reported that bone marrow stem cells show a neurogenic
effect through CCL2 (also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1) secretion in
the brains of NP-C mice. However, the direct effect of CCL2 on neurogenesis has not been
ascertained. Here, to define neurogenic effects of CCL2 in NP-C, we applied human
recombinant CCL2 to neural stem cells (NSCs) derived from NP-C mice. CCL2-treated NSCs
showed significantly increased capacity for self-renewal, proliferation and neuronal
differentiation. Similar results were observed in the subventricular zone of NP-C mice
after CCL2 treatment. Furthermore, infusion of CCL2 into the NP-C mouse brain resulted in
reduction of neuroinflammation. Taken together, our results demonstrate that CCL2 is a

In this study, real-time disease monitoring was conducted on onion which is the most representative crop in Republic of Korea, using an image acquisition system newly developed for the mobile measurement of phenotype. The purpose of this study was to improve the accuracy of prediction of disease and state variables by processing images acquired from monitoring. The image acquisition system was consisted of two parts, a motorized driving system and a PTZ (pan, tilt and zoom) camera to take images of the plants. The acquired images were processed as follows. Noise was removed through an image filter and RGB (red, green and blue) colors were converted to HSV (hue, saturation and value), which enabled thresholding of areas with different colors and properties for image binarization by comparing the color of onion leaf with ambient areas. Four objects with the most significant browning in the onion leaf to the naked eye were selected as the samples for data acquired. The thresholding method with image processing was found to be superior to the naked eye in identifying accurate disease areas. In addition, it was found that the incidence of disease was different in each disease area ratio. As a result, the use of image acquisition system in image processing analysis will enable more prompt detection of any changes in the onion and monitoring of disease outbreaks during the crop lifecycle. 相似文献

Monthly abundance ( CPUE ) of larval anchovy in the coastal waters off south-western Taiwan from 1980 to 1992 (156 months) fluctuated at intervals corresponding to the 4.3- and 2.2-year cycles of the southern oscillation index ( SOI ). Also, CPUE was significantly correlated with sea surface temperature with a time lag of 3 months and nearly significantly to river flow with a time lag of 4 months, which in turn correlated with SOI at lags of 13–14 months (cross-correlation and transfer function analyses). The results suggested the presence of linkage between recruitment of the larvae and ENSO episodes, perhaps through oceanographic and meteorological conditions that affect coastal upwelling and river discharge. The Kuroshio Current, which is the western extension of the North Equatorial Current, may be one of the important mechanisms of ENSO's teleconnections affecting local climate and fisheries in the western Pacific region. 相似文献

An increasing water crisis, as well as the unavailability and high cost of labor, in Pakistan has forced rice‐growers to plant rice directly into the field. However, severe weed infestation causes disastrous effects on the productivity of this rice system. In this study, three herbicides (pendimethalin, penoxsulam and bispyribac‐sodium) were evaluated for weed control in direct‐planted rice on a sandy loam soil. Weedy check and weed‐free plots were established for comparison. Weed infestation decreased the rice yield by 75.2%. However, the application of herbicides suppressed the weed infestation, with a simultaneous increase in the rice yield. The postemergence application of bispyribac‐sodium was the most effective herbicide in reducing the total weed density and dry weight over the weedy check, followed by penoxsulam and pendimethalin, respectively. Bispyribac‐sodium increased the number of productive tillers, 1000‐grain weight, number of grains per panicle and grain yield over the control, as well as improved the water productivity and economic returns of direct‐planted rice. The weeds' proliferation increased the number of unproductive tillers and decreased the plant height. In conclusion, the postemergence application of bispyribac‐sodium can be used effectively to control weeds, increase water productivity and improve the economic returns and yield of direct‐planted rice on a sandy loam soil in Pakistan. 相似文献

Pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of marbofloxacin (MRFX) in Korean cattle, Hanwoo, were
determined following its intravenous (i.v.) or intramuscular (i.m.) administration at a
dose of 2 mg/kg. Area under the curve (AUC0–24 hr), half-life (t1/2)
and total body clearance (CLB) of i.v. MRFX were 6.87
hr∙µg/ml, 2.44 hr and 0.29 l/kg∙hr,
respectively, and the corresponding values for i.m. administration of MRFX were 5.07
hr∙µg/ml, 2.44 hr and 0.39 l/kg∙hr.
The suggested optimal doses of MRFX in Hanwoo cattle, calculated by integration of PK data
obtained in the present study and previously reported minimum inhibitory concentration
(MIC) for MRFX against susceptible (MIC ≤1 µg/ml) and
intermediate (MIC ≤2 µg/ml) pathogenic bacteria, were

Due to global climate change, Korea is facing severe droughts that affect the planting and early vegetative periods of upland crops. Soybean and adzuki bean are important legume crops in Korea, so it is critical to understand their adaptations to water stress. This study investigated the changes in root morphological properties in soybean and adzuki bean and quantified the findings using fractal analysis. The experiment was performed at the National Institute of Crop Science in Miryang, Korea. Soybeans and adzuki beans were planted in test boxes and grown for 30 days. The boxes were filled with bed soil with various soil moisture treatments. Root images were obtained and scanned every two days, and the root properties were characterized by root length, depth and surface area, number of roots, and fractal parameters(fractal dimension and lacunarity). Root depth, length and surface area and the number of roots increased in both crops as the soil moisture content increased. The fractal dimension and lacunarity values increased as the soil moisture content increased. These results indicated that the greater the soil moisture, the more heterogeneous the root structure. Correlation analysis of the morphological properties and fractal parameters indicated that soybean and adzuki bean had different root structure developments. Both soybean and adzuki bean were sensitive to the amount of soil moisture in the early vegetative stage. Soybean required a soil moisture content greater than 70% of the field capacity to develop a full root structure, while adzuki bean required 100% of the field capacity. These results would be useful in understanding the responses of soybean and adzuki bean to water stress and managing irrigation during cultivation. 相似文献
