Rice production and cyanobacterial N in acid soil can be improved by liming. There is evidence that the organic amendments can increase the soil pH. The aim of this study was to find appropriate combination of soil amendments and cyanobacteria capable for enhancing nutrient uptake and improving rice yield in acidic paddy soil. Three soil amendments (rice straw, sewage‐sludge composts, NPK) with and without inoculation of cyanobacteria were studied for rice plants (Oryza sativa L.) in a pot experiment. The sludge compost had significantly reduced soil acidity from 5.44 to 6.67. The plant N and K uptake increased significantly with sludge and cyanobacteria application. The yield components increased significantly with sludge, but decreased thereafter, an exception was the number of panicles, with straw compost. These characters were also significantly affected by inoculation with cyanobacteria except 100‐grain weight, filled‐grain percentage, and harvest index. The combination of sludge compost and cyanobacteria improved the yield components and consequently grain yield (138 g pot–1) compared with sludge treatment only (132 g pot–1). The amount of cyanobacterial N absorbed (N‐difference method) by rice plant under sludge compost was higher than that of soils amended with either rice straw or NPK treatments. Therefore, the addition of sewage sludge to acid paddy soil not only amended the soil properties but also activated the cyanobacteria and consequently improved rice plant nutrition and grain yield.  相似文献

Recycling combusted poultry litter ash as a soil amendment would potentially ameliorate problems normally associated with poultry waste management. We evaluated the effect of chicken litter ash (CLA) and duck litter ash (DLA) as nutrient sources for Japanese mustard spinach (Brassica rapa L. var. perviridis) grown on a sand dune soil. Chicken and duck litter were ashed at five temperatures: 200, 400, 600, 800, and 900°C and the resulting ash samples were applied at the rate of 100 kg phosphorus (P) ha?1. Laboratory analysis showed the highest P extraction with citric acid from CLA and DLA obtained at 600°C. Chicken litter ash was richer in P and potassium (K) than DLA but the later contained more calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg). The amount of ammonium acetate soluble calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and K recovered increased with increasing temperature except for Ca and Mg at the highest temperatures, 800 and 900°C. Plants grown in pots with the CLA and DLA obtained at 400°C had the highest P concentration, yielding significantly more biomass with dense green leaf color but on average, the DLA amended soil had greater biomass. However, the P level was higher in CLA treated plants than DLA due to the higher available P level (citric acid soluble). Increases in electrical conductivity and pH of the soil were noted after harvest due to litter ash application. Our experiment demonstrated that poultry litter is potential source of P and other nutrients for horticutural crops.  相似文献

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is known as a causative agent of zoonosis and food poisoning. Pigs and some species of wild animals, including wild boar, are known to be a reservoir of HEV. In this study, we investigated the situation regarding HEV infection in wild boars in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Serum, liver and feces samples from 68 animals were collected, and the presence or absence of HEV genomic RNA and HEV antibodies were analyzed. The viral genome was detected in samples from 7 (10.3%) animals, with all HEVs classified as genotype 3, subtype 3b. HEV antibodies were detected in samples from 28 (41%) animals. This report demonstrates for the first time the high prevalence of HEV infection in wild boars in Ibaraki Prefecture.  相似文献

Chinese cabbage yellows caused by Verticillium dahliae and V. longisporum is one of the most economically important diseases in Japan. Verticillium isolates from infected Chinese cabbage in Japan were identified as V. dahliae and V. longisporum based on morphological characteristics and newly developed molecular genotyping methods using group I intron of 18S rDNA, mitochondrial-SSU rDNA and cob gene. Although the two species were equally virulent to Chinese cabbage in the greenhouse, V. longisporum was more virulent in the field compared with V. dahliae. Among the 67 Verticillium isolates from Chinese cabbage, 53 were V. longisporum and considered to be the major pathogen. The isolation frequency of V. longisporum was 98?% in Ibaraki and eastern Gunma where Chinese cabbage was cropped from autumn to winter. In contrast, the frequency was 48?% in Nagano and north to west Gunma where the plant was cropped in cool summer and highland conditions and the rests were V. dahliae. This is the first report to show the different geographical distribution of V. longisporum and V. dahliae in Chinese cabbage production area of Japan.  相似文献

The adverse effects of forest clearing on crop yield have often been directly ascribed to decline in soil fertility. However, the effect of various forest clearing methods on crop nutrient uptake as reflected by the content in the leaf tissues has been the subject of few scientific investigations. A study to determine the effect of forest clearing on nutrient content of some arable crops was, therefore, carried out in the tropical rainforest of south-western Nigeria. Three forest clearing methods—mechanical, semi-mechanical and manual clearing—were used, while maize, cowpea, and cassava were the test crops. Nutrient content in the tissues of these crops was assessed by sampling maize ear leaves at silking, youngest mature leaves (YML) of cowpea at flowering and YML of 3-month-old cassava for analysis. Correlation analysis was carried out to establish the relationship between nutrient content and crop yield. The method of forest clearing had no significant effect on the nutrient content of maize and cowpea during the first cropping cycle. However, nutrient content of maize in the manually cleared plots was higher than those in the semi- and mechanically cleared plots for all elements analyzed except Mg. Nitrogen content of cowpea was much higher than that of maize. Except for P and K, the nutrient content of cassava was not markedly different among the forest clearing methods. Calcium and P content in the leaves of maize and cassava varied inversely with their levels in the soil, implying that crop uptake could have accounted for the differences in their availability within the soil. Nitrogen, P and K had significant positive correlations with maize yield (r = 0.77, 0.89, and 0.71). Potassium content also had significant positive correlation with cassava root yield (r = 0.69). This is not surprising because compared with other crops, cassava requires large amounts of K for starch formation and root development. It is concluded that differences observed in crop yields under different forest clearing methods are a function of nutrient uptake and availability within the soil. However, the uptake of some nutrients does not seem to be determined by the level of soil availability alone. Various methods of inoculating plants with Verticillium dahliae have been described; however, so far, there are no effective preparations of its microsclerotia, a major source of infection under natural field conditions. In this study, we developed a simple and effective method to prepare microsclerotial inoculum of V. dahliae using a cellophane medium that effectively promoted microsclerotia formation. In addition, a sieving process allowed the preparation of inoculum exclusively composed of microsclerotia. Our novel method provides a reproducible and stable inoculum for disease induction by V. dahliae under conditions that approximate natural infections.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to assess the premature mortality risks caused by exposure to particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5???m (PM2.5) and ozone elevated concentrations for the years?2000, 2005, and 2020 in East Asia. The spatial distributions and temporal variations of PM2.5 and ozone concentrations are simulated using the Models-3 Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling System coupled with the Regional Emission Inventory in Asia. The premature mortality risks caused by exposure to PM2.5 and ozone are calculated based on a relative risk (RR) value of 1.04 (95?% confidence interval (CI): 1.01?C1.08) for PM2.5 concentrations above the annual mean limit of 10???g?m?3 taken from the World Health Organization?CAir Quality Guideline and based on a RR value of 1.003 (95?% CI: 1.001?C1.004) for ozone concentration above 35?ppb of the SOMO35 index (the sum of ozone daily maximum 8-h mean concentrations above 35?ppb). We demonstrate one of the implications of the policy making in the area of environmental atmospheric management in East Asia by highlighting the annual premature mortalities associated with exposure to PM2.5 concentrations that just meet an annual mean concentration of 10???g?m?3, as well as ozone concentrations that have a daily zero SOMO35 index in vulnerable places. Our results point to a growing health risk that may endanger human life in East Asia. We find that the effect of PM2.5 on human health is greater than the effect of ozone for the age group of 30?years and above. We estimate the corresponding premature mortality due to the effects of both ozone and PM2.5 in East Asia for the years?2000 and 2005 to be around 316,000 and 520,000 cases, respectively. For future scenarios of the year?2020, policy succeed case, reference, and policy failed case, the estimated annual premature mortality rates are 451,000, 649,000, and 1,035,000 respectively.  相似文献
