The roles of verapamil (VRP), a calcium channel blocker, on cadmium-induced physiological stress in freshwater teleost Oncorhynchus mykiss were investigated in this study. Forty-eight juvenile rainbow trout were divided randomly into four groups, i.e., control group, VRP group (100 μg/L VRP), Cd group (50 μg/L Cd2+), and VRP?+?Cd group (100 μg/L VRP?+?50 μg/L Cd2+). After 1-week exposure, oxidative stress indices (lipid peroxidation and carbonyl protein) and antioxidant parameters (superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and reduced glutathione) were measured in gill and liver of all tested fish. Additionally, the behavioral changes were recorded during the experimental period. Compared with the control, cadmium-induced stress was apparent as reflected by a serious oxidative stress in gill and liver tissues, inhibited branchial antioxidant parameters, and induced hepatic antioxidant responses, as well as abnormal behaviors observed. In the VRP?+?Cd group, the antioxidant defense system of fish returned to the control level, and the fish behavioral abnormalism markedly decreased. The present results suggested that VRP could reduce the cadmium-induced physiological stress in rainbow trout and provided further evidence that Cd2+ uptake through Ca2+ transport pathways in freshwater teleost.  相似文献

The switch from spring-sown to autumn-sown cereals and the loss of habitat heterogeneity are often suggested to be key drivers of breeding bird decline on arable farmland. Yet, both factors are interlinked and it remains uncertain whether autumn-sown cereals reduce breeding bird numbers also in the structurally complex arable farmland of northern Europe. We tested whether autumn-sowing of cereals at both local and landscape scales affected the breeding bird community in a heterogeneous agricultural landscape of south-central Sweden. Rotation between sowing types was used as a semi-experiment based on 34 spring- vs. 41 autumn-sown cereal plots centred on infield non-crop islands of similar structure, size and surroundings. Species richness and territory abundance of ground-foraging species were significantly lower in autumn- than in spring-sown cereal plots both in the crop fields and the infield non-crop islands during the breeding season. No such effect was observed among foliage gleaning birds. Species richness in spring-sown cereal plots was less the more autumn-sown crops in the surrounding landscape within a 500 m radius. Average skylark densities did not differ between autumn- and spring-sown cereal plots because habitat preferences changed; densities declined in autumn-sown cereals during the growing season whereas they increased on spring-sown fields which had shorter swards throughout the breeding season. Our results indicate that negative effects of autumn-sown crops on breeding bird numbers spill over into both neighbouring non-crop and crop habitats. We conclude that agri-environmental schemes should place more emphasis on facilitating the value of the cropped area of fields as a foraging and nesting habitat. The retention of various non-crop habitats alone may not provide sufficient food close to nest sites for farmland birds that rely on crop fields for foraging.  相似文献

The fate of the Amadori compound N-(1-deoxy-D-fructos-1-yl)glycine (DFG) was studied in aqueous model systems as a function of time and pH. The samples were reacted at 90 degrees C for up to 7 h while maintaining the pH constant at 5, 6, 7, or 8. Special attention was paid to the effect of phosphate on the formation of glycine and the parent sugars glucose and mannose, as well as formic and acetic acid. These compounds and DFG were quantified by high-performance anion-exchange chromatography. The rate of DFG degradation increased with pH. Addition of phosphate accelerated this reaction, particularly at pH 5-7. The rate of glycine formation increased with pH in both the absence and presence of phosphate. High glycine concentrations (60-70 mol %) were obtained, preferably at pH 6-8 with phosphate. However, the yield of glycine formed from DFG decreased at the advanced reaction stage for all pH values studied, both in water and in phosphate buffer. The rate of parent sugar formation increased from pH 5 to pH 7 in the absence of phosphate, leading to glucose and mannose in a constant ratio of 7:3. Addition of phosphate accelerated this reaction, yielding up to 18% parent sugars, most likely formed by reverse Amadori rearrangement. The formation rate of acetic and formic acid increased with increasing pH. The sum of both acids attained 76 mol %. However, the acetic acid concentrations were much higher than those of formic acid.  相似文献

The formation of acetic acid was elucidated based on volatile reaction products and related nonvolatile key intermediates. The origin and yield of acetic acid were determined under well-controlled conditions (90-120 degrees C, pH 6-8). Experiments with various 13C-labeled glucose isotopomers in the presence of glycine revealed all six carbon atoms being incorporated into acetic acid: C-1/C-2 ( approximately 70%), C-3/C-4 ( approximately 10%), and C-5/C-6 (approximately 20%). Acetic acid is a good marker of the 2,3-enolization pathway since it is almost exclusively formed from 1-deoxy-2,3-diulose intermediates. Depending on the pH, the acetic acid conversion yield reached 85 mol % when using 1-deoxy-2,3-hexodiulose (1) as a precursor. Hydrolytic beta-dicarbonyl cleavage of 1-deoxy-2,4-hexodiuloses was shown to be the major pathway leading to acetic acid from glucose without the intermediacy of any oxidizing agents. The presence of key intermediates was corroborated for the first time, i.e., tetroses and 2-hydroxy-3-oxobutanal, a tautomer of 1-hydroxy-2,3-butanedione, also referred to as 1-deoxy-2,3-tetrodiulose. The hydrolytic beta-dicarbonyl cleavage represents a general pathway to organic acids, which corresponds to an acyloin cleavage or a retro-Claisen type reaction. Although alternative mechanisms must exist, the frequently reported hydrolytic alpha-dicarbonyl cleavage of 1 can be ruled out as a pathway forming carboxylic acids.  相似文献

1. Rates of muscle protein turnover, growth, and food consumption were determined in 4 lines of chickens selected for either weight gain (line W), food consumption (line F), efficiency of food conversion (line E), or at random (line C) and in two Australian commercial broiler strains (S and H). These measures were related to body composition and the circulating concentrations of plasma growth hormone (GH) and IGF-I. 2. N tau-methylhistidine excretion was 10-14% higher in line F and 7-13% lower in line E compared to line C, showing divergence in the rate of muscle protein breakdown with selection. 3. There were no differences between the 4 experimental lines (W, F, E and C) in muscle protein fractional synthesis rates, whether calculated from N tau-methylhistidine excretion or measured directly by 3H-phenylalanine incorporation. 4. No consistent differences were found between lines in circulating concentrations of either GH or IGF-I but plasma IGF-I concentrations were positively correlated over all lines with protein accretion rates. There was a strong inverse correlation over all lines between the rates of protein degradation and FCR. 5. The correlated responses in protein degradation rates are consistent with the notion of a positive genetic association between the overall efficiency of food utilisation for growth and the efficiency of protein metabolism.  相似文献

Neocaridina davidi is a popular shrimp in the aquarium industry; however, information regarding its husbandry is scarce. In this study, we investigated the contribution of biofilm to its life cycle, comprising three successive phases: (1) the evaluation of biofilm growth on plastic nets (PN), plastic sheets (PS) and agrovelo (AV); (2) the reproduction of adult shrimp to get juveniles (JI); and (3) the effects of biofilm on the survival and growth performance of JI. Trials were performed in aquaria with zero water exchange and natural environmental conditions. Biofilm was composed mainly of microalgae, diatoms, cyanobacteria and ciliates and used as the sole diet. Survival, biomass and biochemical reserves of JI reared in this culture system were significantly higher in the presence of PN and AV substrates. The occurrence of ovarian maturation and egg incubation of female shrimp in these treatments indicate that biofilm supplied the energy required for somatic growth and fecundity. Harvested females also displayed the size and the red pigmentation associated with premium pricing. Based on these results, it is concluded that N. davidi can complete the life cycle and display characteristic life history traits in a low‐cost biofilm technology system without losing economic value as ornamental species.  相似文献
