Grain yield and its component trait thousand kernel weight are important traits in triticale breeding programmes. Here, we used a large mapping population of 647 doubled haploid lines derived from four families to dissect the genetic architecture underlying grain yield and thousand kernel weight by multiple‐line cross QTL mapping. We identified 3 QTL for grain yield and 13 for thousand kernel weight which cross‐validated explained 5.2% and 48.2% of the genotypic variance, respectively. Both traits showed a positive phenotypic correlation, and we found two QTL overlapping between them. Full two‐dimensional epistasis scans revealed epistatic QTL for both traits, suggesting that epistatic interactions contribute to their genetic architecture. Based on QTL identified in our results, we conclude that the potential for marker‐assisted selection is limited for grain yield but more promising for thousand kernel weight.  相似文献

Hybrid breeding is a promising approach to increase the yield potential in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The profitability of wheat hybrids highly depends on a cost‐efficient system for hybrid seed production for which an adequate outcrossing in the male pool is of utmost importance. Employing a set of 51 elite winter wheat lines, we developed and evaluated phenotyping methods for floral and flowering traits with relevance for improved cross‐pollination. We observed significant genotypic variances and high heritabilities for most traits, including important traits like pollen mass and anther extrusion. Our results suggest the utility of the developed phenotyping approaches for applied plant breeding and the potential of the traits to assist in the design of the male ideotype for increased cross‐fertilization.  相似文献

Most durum wheat (Triticum durum) varieties possess only low winter hardiness due to their frost susceptibility. In North America and Central Europe, durum wheat is therefore typically sown in spring to circumvent the local winter conditions. However, the yield potential of durum in these regions could be much better exploited if durum varieties with increased frost tolerance were available, which could be sown in autumn. A factor limiting breeding for increased frost tolerance is the variation in the occurrence of frost stress across years. The ‘Weihenstephaner Auswinterungsanlage’ is a semi‐controlled test that exposes the plants to all weather conditions. Snow coverage of the plants, serving as frost protection, is prevented by the movable glass lid of the semi‐controlled test. In this study, different scorings for frost tolerance based on this semi‐controlled test were evaluated and compared with frost tolerance data in the field. Our results illustrate the potential of the ‘Weihenstephaner Auswinterungsanlage’ as an indirect selection tool for frost tolerance in durum breeding programmes, especially when regular frost tolerance data from the field are not available.  相似文献

Genomic selection employs genome‐wide marker data to predict genomic breeding values. In this study, a population consisting of 391 lines of elite winter oilseed rape derived from nine families was used to evaluate the prospects of genomic selection in rapeseed breeding. All lines have been phenotyped for six morphological, quality‐ and yield‐related traits and genotyped with genome‐wide SNP markers. We used ridge regression best linear unbiased prediction in combination with cross‐validation and obtained medium to high prediction accuracies for the studied traits. Our results illustrate that among‐family variance contributes to the prediction accuracy and can lead to an overestimation of the prospects of genomic selection within single segregating families. We also tested a scenario where estimation of effects was carried out without individuals from the family in which breeding values were predicted, which yielded lower but nevertheless attractive prediction accuracies. Taken together, our results suggest that genomic selection can be a valuable genomic approach for complex agronomic traits towards a knowledge‐based breeding in rapeseed.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of preoperative administration of oral carprofen, subcutaneous ketoprofen, and local nerve block with bupivacaine in preventing postoperative pain-associated behavior in cats after ovariohysterectomy. ANIMALS: Fifty-two female intact cats. Materials and methods Cats received butorphanol (0.44 mg kg(-1) IM), carprofen (2.2 mg kg(-1) PO), ketoprofen (2.2 mg kg(-1) SQ), or bupivacaine infiltration block (1.1 mg kg(-1) SQ) before surgery. Cortisol and drug concentrations and visual analog scale (VAS) and interactive visual analog scale (IVAS) pain-associated behavior scores were measured 2 hours before and 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 hours after ovariohysterectomy. RESULTS: Cats receiving butorphanol had significantly increased IVAS scores 2 hours after surgery compared with baseline measurements. Cats receiving carprofen, ketoprofen, and bupivacaine had significant increases from baseline in VAS and IVAS scores 1 and 2 hours after surgery. VAS and IVAS scores for cats receiving bupivacaine were significantly greater 1 and 2 hours after surgery than for cats that received butorphanol. Cats receiving carprofen had significant increases in cortisol 1 hour after surgery and significant decreases 24 hours after surgery compared with baseline measurements. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Preoperative carprofen and ketoprofen have effects on pain-associated behavior similar to butorphanol in cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Cats receiving bupivacaine blocks may require additional analgesics immediately after surgery.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the material properties of Slocum TPLO plates and assess the soft tissue reaction adjacent to these plates in dogs that had undergone tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). SAMPLE POPULATION: 3 new TPLO plates, 8 retrieved TPLO plates, and 1 new Synthes dynamic compression plate. PROCEDURES: Metallurgic analyses were performed. Tissue samples were obtained from areas adjacent to retrieved plates and submitted for histologic examination. RESULTS: All of the TPLO plates had a 2-phase microstructure consisting of austenite and ferrite in various amounts. Residua, inclusions, and cavities were seen during microscopic examination of the plate surface. The major differences between new and retrieved TPLO plates were the presence of small gaps separating many inclusions from the surrounding matrix and the presence of various-sized pits on the surface of the retrieved plates. The dynamic compression plate had a nearly pure austenitic structure and was largely free from residua, inclusions, and cavities. Histologic examination of tissue samples obtained from areas adjacent to retrieved TPLO plates revealed intra- and extracellular particulate debris. Two types of particles (one consisting of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and iron and the other consisting of aluminum and silicon) were seen. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results determined that new and retrieved TPLO plates were manufactured from 316L stainless steel and produced by a casting process, but not all plates met specifications for chemical composition of cast surgical implants (American Society for Testing Materials standard F745); tissues surrounding retrieved plates had evidence of adverse reactions, probably as a result of plate corrosion.  相似文献

Common root rot (CRR), primarily caused by Cochliobolus sativus, is one of the important soil borne diseases of wheat (Triticum aestivum L). To gain information about resistance of hard red spring wheat (HRSW) to the disease, forty HRSW cultivars and advanced breeding lines were grown and evaluated in a completely randomized block design for reaction to CRR from 2000 to 2002 in a field plot with high natural inoculum of C. sativus at Williston, ND. Plant root samples during the soft to mid-dough stage were collected and CRR incidences and severities were scored using the subcrown internode index method. Disease severities (DS) varied from 24–61% in 2000 and 2002, but were relatively low in 2001 (19–40%). None of the wheat cultivars was immune to CRR. The genotypes Canon, Forge, Dandy, Ember, Butte 86, Oxen, AC Barrie, Parshall, and 2371 had higher DS (>45%) and exhibited susceptible disease reactions. However, the genotypes ND 722, AC Cadillac, HJ 98, Argent and Scholar had lower levels of DS throughout the study period, and these were better than, or similar to Amidon, the resistant check. The HRSW cultivars with consistent resistance to CRR during the three year evaluation could be valuable resistance sources for use in breeding programs.  相似文献

Efficient hybrid wheat breeding requires the redesign of the wheat floral architecure to enhance cross-pollination. Several studies evaluated the phenotypic variation and the genetic architecture of male floral traits, but their contribution to the most important trait, hybrid seed set on the female parent, has not yet been considered. To bridge this gap, we employed 31 male lines and evaluated the hybrid seed set on two female tester lines in crossing blocks. Hybrid seed set showed large genetic variance and high heritability, which demonstrates the potential for the improvement of this trait. However, the assessment of hybrid seed set is difficult as secondary traits like plant height and especially flowering time, as well as the environment largely influence the hybrid seed set. Nevertheless, a moderately high correlation between visual anther extrusion and hybrid seed set opens up the possibility to use visual anther extrusion as an indirect trait for preliminary male screenings. Further research evaluating traits influencing female receptivity coupled with genomics-assisted approaches are highly recommended to develop an improved selection portfolio for maximizing hybrid seed set.  相似文献

Gibberella ear rot (GER) is a serious threat to maize cultivation, causing grain yield losses and contamination with mycotoxins. Genomic prediction (GP) has great potential to accelerate resistance breeding against GER. However, small training sets (TS) consisting of both phenotyped and genotyped individuals are a challenge for obtaining high prediction accuracy (ρ) in GP. A potential solution would be combining small-size populations across heterotic pools. However, genetic heterogeneity between populations in terms of segregating QTL, linkage disequilibrium (LD) pattern and genomic relationships can impair ρ of GP. In this study, we investigated the genetic architecture of GER severity, deoxynivalenol concentration (DON) and days to silking with genome-wide association studies within two elite panels of 130 dent and 114 flint lines from the maize breeding program of the University of Hohenheim tested in four environments. We also assessed the consistency of LD pattern and genomic relationships between the two heterotic pools. Furthermore, we compared four GP approaches differing in the composition of the TS with lines from a single or combined pool(s) and statistical models with marker effects identical or different but correlated between pools. We detected two and six QTL for DON within the dent and flint pool, respectively, but no common QTL. The LD pattern was consistent between pools for marker pairs ≤ 10 kb apart. GP across pools yielded low or even negative ρ. Combined-pool GP had no higher ρ than within-pool GP, regardless of the statistical model. Our findings underline the importance of investigating the genetic heterogeneity between populations prior to implementing GP using combined TS.  相似文献
