The canopy structure and interception of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) in a 10-year-old Kandelia candel (L.) Druce stand were investigated before and after artificial defoliation. Leaf and wood areas for different layers were measured through area–weight relationships of subsamples. PPFD was measured at specified heights before and after leaf clipping. The leaf area index (LAI) and wood area index (WAI) were 4.501m2m–2 and 1.412m2m–2, respectively. Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is one of the most important and drought sensitive grain legumes. Drought stress is thus one of major constraints in global faba bean production. In this study, twenty local and exotic faba bean genotypes were characterized on physiological and molecular basis. Seeds of faba bean genotypes (six per pot) were sown in poly venyl chloride pots. After seedling emergence, soil moisture was maintained at 100%, 50% and 25% of field capacity designated as well watered, moderate drought and severe drought, respectively. Drought stress significantly influenced the leaf area, leaf temperature, stomatal conductance, relative leaf water contents, grain yield and water‐use efficiency. Faba bean genotypes also differed for the leaf area, leaf temperature, relative leaf water contents, grain yield and water‐use efficiency. Faba bean genotypes Kamline and L.4 were better equipped to curtail water loss, maintain tissue water status, produce stable grain yield and had better water‐use efficiency under mild and severe drought stress, and may be used in breeding programmes. Amplified fragment length polymorphism markers showed high potential in detecting polymorphism and estimating genetic diversity among faba bean genotypes. Unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean cluster analysis of the genotypes illustrated considerable association between molecular diversity, genetic background and geographic origin. In crux, high polymorphic rate and polymorphism information content values, together with the low genetic similarity observed among tested genotypes suggests a high level of heterogeneity, which may be used in breeding programmes to assemble different drought tolerance mechanisms in one genotype. 相似文献

1. Live body weight gain (WG) and food conversion efficiency (FCE) were measured over a 4-week period in chicks (female, Kabir strain), inoculated intragastrically at one week of age with either a single dose (1 ml) of 10(7) live bacterial cells of Lactobacillus fermentum (LBF) or a strain of Lactobacillus spp. (LB), named Autruche 4 (A4), suspended in 1 ml of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.0); controls (n = 10) were inoculated only with PBS. The same commercial chicken feed was used throughout the 4-week experiment. 2. Compared with the control group, WG to 8 and 21 d, and also liver weight, were significantly greater in LBF and A4 treatments and FCE improved in both of the experimental groups. Compared with the A4 treatment group, WG was significantly higher and FCE improved in the LBF-treated group. The effects of A4 treatment on chicks were similar to those in an earlier pilot experiment using the same methodology but with 1-week-old female chicks (Kabir) inoculated with either the A4 strain or strain of LB named Autruche 5. 3. It is concluded that a single dose of Lactobacillus fermentum or Lactobacillus spp. (Autruche 4) administered intragastrically improves WG and FCE of broiler chicks. 相似文献

Three C4 grass (Setaria incrassata, Astrebla squarrosa and Bothriochloa decipiens) and one C3 legume (Clitoria ternatea) suppressive fodder species, were re‐evaluated against the growth of the C3 Parthenium hysterophorus under an ambient (390 μmol mol?1) and an elevated atmospheric CO2 concentration (550 μmol mol?1). Under the elevated atmospheric CO2, shoot dry biomass and suppression index (SI) value of the C4 S. incrassata were both reduced by 32% and 0.7 respectively, while those for A. squarrosa were reduced by 23% and 0.3. In contrast and under the same elevated atmospheric CO2 concentration, the shoot dry biomass and SI of the C4 B. decipiens were increased by 8% and 0.1 respectively, while those for the C3 C. ternatea were increased by 38% and 0.8. Our results suggest that C3 fodder plants along with certain C4 species could be utilised for the effective management of P. hysterophorus under the future elevated atmospheric CO2 conditions. However, this system needs more fodder species to be investigated. Our results suggest that rising CO2 per se may alter the efficacy of suppressive fodder management of an invasive C3 species, P. hysterophorus. 相似文献

Emerging research suggests that the nitric oxide system may play a role in persistent breeding‐induced endometritis (PBIE) in the mare. Differences in uterine nitric oxide (NO) levels between mares susceptible or resistant to PBIE and a dose‐dependent inhibitory effect of NO on uterine contractility have been demonstrated. The objectives of this study were to investigate the difference in total nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity of the endometrium between susceptible and resistant mares and the effect of a specific inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) inhibitor on the endometrial NOS activity in vitro. Six susceptible and six resistant mares were selected based on preset criteria and the results of an intrauterine challenge with killed spermatozoa during oestrus. Endometrial biopsy samples were collected 24 hr post‐challenge and cultured at 37°C for 24 hr in L‐arginine supplemented minimum essential medium with or without a specific iNOS inhibitor (1,400 W dihydrochloride, 1 mM). The medium and the cultured endometrial tissue were collected after 24 hr of culture and assayed for NO and total protein, respectively. Total NO content of the medium, normalized to endometrial tissue wet weight or total protein, was used as a measure of endometrial NOS activity. Non‐parametric tests were applied for statistical analysis. Susceptible mares had significantly greater endometrial NOS activity than resistant mares. The iNOS inhibitor treatment significantly reduced NOS activity in endometrial samples derived from susceptible and resistant mares. These findings provide a basis for in vivo testing of specific iNOS inhibitors as preventative or therapeutic options for PBIE in mares. 相似文献

Conventional tilled transplanting, a widely practiced method of rice (Oryza sativa L.) establishment in puddled soils in rice–rice and rice–wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) systems in Asia, requires a large amount of labor and water, which are becoming scarce and expensive. Growing more food with the same production costs or even reduced costs and sustaining the quality of the natural resource base are a major concern. On-farm trials were conducted in Chuadanga District of Bangladesh during the wet season as monsoon rice (aman) and during the dry season as winter rice (boro) in 2006–07 to evaluate the effects of establishment methods with improved crop management on productivity, resource (land, water, and labor) use, and economic return. Rice was established by sowing in line with a drum seeder on conventional tilled puddled soils (CT-DrumR) and by transplanting in line on the day of CT-DrumR (CT-TPR1) and 30 and 35 days after CT-DrumR (CT-TPR2) in aman and boro seasons, respectively. Farmers’ usual transplanting time corresponds to the day of CT-TPR2. Grain yields in CT-DrumR and CT-TPR2 were similar but the crop occupied the main field 22–24 days longer in CT-DrumR than in CT-TPR2, resulting in lower productivity (45 kg grain ha−1 day−1 vs. 55 kg grain ha−1 day−1) in both seasons. Drum-seeded rice matured earlier by 8 and 11 days, received 12% and 6% less irrigation water, saved 19 and 24 person-days ha−1, and gave higher gross margins of 6% and 4% but input costs increased by 20% and 12% than CT-TPR2 in aman and boro seasons, respectively. Artemisia annua L. is an aromatic-antibacterial herb that destroys malarial parasites, lowers fever, and checks bleeding, and from which
the secondary compound of interest is artemisinin. It has become increasingly popular as an effective and safe alternative
therapy against malaria, and its derivatives are effective against multidrug resistant Plasmodium falciparum strains. Nitrogen is required by the plants in the largest quantity and is most limiting where biomass production is desired.
On the other hand, gibberellic acid plays an important role in flowering, growth, and development and also in other physiological
and biochemical processes. The feasibility of foliar GA3 (75 mg·L−1) alone or with varying levels of soil applied nitrogen (40, 80, and 120 mg·kg−1 soil) was tested on A. annua in the present study. The application of GA3 proved effective in alleviating the growth, photosynthesis, and enzyme activities of A. annua. However, N levels combined with GA3 showed better responses, and further improvement in these parameters was observed. Furthermore, the most important task we

AbstractAn organic-mineral liquid fertigation fertilizer containing humic acid, nitrogen (N)–phosphorus (P)–potassium (K), zinc (Zn), sulfur (S), manganese (Mn) and a liquid foliar fertilizer consisting of fulvic acid and gibberellic acids were formulated and applied to wheat. The purpose of this study was to develop an efficient and cost effective liquid and foliar fertilizer and compare their potential with commercially available urea and DAP. The fulvic acid and humic acids were obtained by alkaline extraction of lignite coal. All the treatments were significant over the control. The application of the liquid fertigation fertilizer and liquid foliar fertilizer along with 50?kg of urea per acre showed the best results biological yield (grain plus straw yield). It was found that the highest yield was obtained in T6 treatment and the second best results were obtained with T2 treatment, but has a high cost, while treatment T6 was the most significant economical and yielded a high income when compared to other treatments. 相似文献

The metabolites isolated and purified from the excreta of the rats treated with [14C]photoheptachlor were analyzed by gc-mass spectrometry. Molecular structure of two of the major metabolites indicated that they were produced by hydroxylations at two different CCl bonds of photoheptachlor. One of these metabolites was conjugated with glucuronic acid, the other with an unknown compound. Hepatic origin of the products was shown by concordance of the in vitro and in vivo study. Most of the radioactivity in fat, skin, liver, kidney, and muscle tissues of male and female rats was organosoluble containing photoheptachlor and its nonpolar metabolites. 相似文献

This study was conducted to quantify dietary vitamin C requirement of fingerling, Cirrhinus mrigala, (0.79 ± 0.07 g; 3.51 ± 0.15 cm) by feeding casein‐gelatin based purified diets (400 g/kg crude protein; 3.45 kcal/g digestible energy) containing nine levels of vitamin C as l‐ascorbyl‐2‐polyphosphate (0.0, 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, 75, and 95 mg vitamin C equivalent/kg diet) to triplicate groups of fish to apparent satiation for 16 wk. Absolute weight gain (AWG, g/fish), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein retention efficiency (PRE%), RNA/DNA ratio, hemoglobin (Hb, g/dL), and hematocrit value (Hct%) were taken as the response criteria to determine vitamin C requirement of mrigal. Fish fed diet with 35 mg/kg vitamin C had significantly higher AWG (9.94 g/fish), FCR (1.39), PRE (27.72%), RNA/DNA ratio (4.18), Hb (11.15 g/dL), and Hct (34.44%) values. However, liver vitamin C concentration was found to be higher (64.92 µg/g wet tissue) in diet containing 45 mg vitamin C/kg. Broken‐line regression analysis of AWG data estimated the requirement of 35.65 mg/kg, whereas that of the liver vitamin C concentration data projected the requirement to 41.99 mg/kg. 相似文献
