Purpose

The influence of bone sorbent addition onto distribution of 90Sr in artificially contaminated soil was preliminary studied to assess the possibility of biogenic apatite utilization for reduction of 90Sr mobility and availability. Simultaneously, the disruption of soil micro- (Cd, Zn, Co, Cu, Cr, and Ni,) and macroelements (Al, Fe, Mn, K, Mg, and Ca) upon Sr contamination and sorbent addition was monitored.

Materials and methods

The model soil was contaminated by inactive Sr, in the form of Sr(NO3)2 solution. As a soil additive, sorbent obtained by annealing bovine bones at 400 °C (B400) was applied. Both the uncontaminated and Sr-contaminated soils were mixed with 1, 3, 5, and 10 % of sorbent, suspended in distilled water (initial pH?5; solid/solution ratio, 1:2), and equilibrated for 15 days on a rotary shaker. Solid residues were subjected to modified Tessier five-step sequential extraction analysis, and the amounts of chosen metals in each fraction were determined by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectroscopy.

Results and discussion

In the original soil, Sr was mainly found in exchangeable (61 %) and carbonate phase (16 %), whereas after contamination, the content of Sr in exchangeable phase raised to 94 %. With the addition of B400, the decrease in Sr amounts in exchangeable fraction was detected, whereas increase occurred mainly in operationally defined carbonate phase and in the residual. High level of Sr contamination caused the increase in Zn, Ni, Co, Cu, Cd, and Mn and decrease in Ca content in exchangeable phase. Sorbent addition resulted in a migration of these cations to less soluble fractions. This effect was observed even for major soil elements such as Fe, Al, and Mn, regardless of the excessive amounts of Sr in the soil.

Conclusions

Mixing the soil with B400 resulted in reduced Sr mobility and bioavailability. B400 acted as a stabilizing agent for heavy metals, as well. Apatite distinguished selectivity towards heavy metals may interfere with the Sr immobilization and disrupt original cation distribution. Further studies should include more realistic (lower) Sr concentrations in the soil, different soil types, pH, and longer incubation times.  相似文献

The study was based on data from selected long-term field trials established at the Experimental Fields of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad (Serbia). The effect of tillage systems on SOC concentration and SOC stock was most pronounced at 0–10 cm depth. In a 0–40 cm soil layer, in a 7-year period, no-till (NT) sequestrated 863 kg SOC ha?1 yr?1 more compared to moldboard plow tillage (PT), while the effects of disc tillage (DT) and chisel tillage (CT) were not significantly different. Unfertilized three-crop rotation (CSW) compared to two-crop rotation (CW) enhanced SOC storage in a 0–30 cm soil layer by 151 kg C ha?1 yr?1 in a 56-year period. Within fertilized treatments, SOC concentration was highest under continuous corn (CC). Mineral fertilization (F) non-significantly increased the SOC stock compared to no fertilization in corn monoculture in a 32-year period. The incorporation of mineral fertilizers and harvest residues (F + HR) and mineral fertilizers and farmyard manure (F + FYM) sequestered 195 and 435 kg C ha?1 yr?1 more than the unfertilized plot, respectively, in a 0–30 cm soil layer, in a 35-year period. Abstract

Three thermal power plants in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia of the Western Balkan region were expected to be metal polluting sources, and this study was performed to investigate the bioavailability and chemical speciation of trace metals in soils and soil water extracts, respectively. Surface (0–15 cm) soil samples along with maize and grass samples were collected at a gradient from the pollution source. The chemical speciation of metals was conducted using the Windereme Humic Aqueous Model (WHAM)/Model VI for water, whereas the Diffusion Gradient in Thin Films (DGT) technique was used to estimate plant availability. The chemical speciation indicated that more than 99% of all four metals in soil water extracts were complexed to fulvic acid. This is connected to relatively high soil pH (> 6.5) and high contents of soil organic matter in these soils. The accumulation of trace metals by DGT was not correlated to plant uptake. This is connected to the very low partitioning of free ions in solution, but also to the low variation in metal solubility and metal concentration in plant tissue between sites. In spite of active thermal power plants located in the areas, hardly any differences in concentration of soil metals between sites were seen and the partition of metals in soil waters was insignificant. The latter indicates that these soils have a large metal-retaining capacity. The only significant soil chemical variable affecting the variation in metal solubility was the soil pH. In a time with large infrastructure and industrial expansion in these areas, this investigation indicates the importance of protecting these high-quality soils from industrial use and degradation. High industrial activity has so far had insignificant effect on soil quality with respect to bioavailability of trace metals in these soils.  相似文献

The effect of excess concentrations of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) on water relations in young sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants was studied in water culture under greenhouse conditions. The accumulation of the heavy metals was more intensive in the root than in the shoot. The rates of heavy metal accumulation in root were arranged in the following decreasing order: Cu, Cd, Zn, and Pb. Their transport into the above‐ground parts followed the order: Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd. Transpiration and relative water content were significantly decreased by excess concentrations of the heavy metals. The number of stomata per unit leaf area was increased while the size of the stomata was decreased. The concentration of free proline significantly increased in the leaves of intact plants as well as in leaf discs incubated in the presence of heavy metals. The concentration of soluble proteins decreased as well, particularly when plants were exposed to high concentrations of the heavy metals. It was concluded that excess concentrations of the heavy metals significantly affected plant water status, causing water deficit and subsequent changes in the plants. The most intensive effect on the plants was exerted by Cd, less intensive by Cu and Zn and the least intensive by Pb.  相似文献

In a study of the parasitoid complex of the locust leaf miner Phyllonorycter robiniella (Clemens, 1859), 23 species of its parasitoids were recorded at 18 localities in Serbia. The parasitoid species included 2 species of the family Braconidae, 1 of the family Eupelmidae, and 20 of the family Eulophidae. The recorded species of parasitoids are polyphagous; in addition to Ph. robiniella, they also develop on other species of leaf miners as primary; primary and secondary; or primary, secondary, and tertiary parasitoids. Among the recorded species of parasitoids, the most significant were the species Pholetesor bicolor, Pholetesor nanus, Sympiesis sericeicornis, Sympiesis acalle, Minotetrastichus frontalis, Pediobius saulius, and Baryscapus nigroviolaceus. The parasitoids were found to have a strong effect on the abundance of Ph. robiniella because they reduced more than 50% of its larvae and pupae in the majority of study samples.  相似文献

Antioxidative effects of Maydis stigma methanolic extracts were studied on the level of lipid peroxidation in liposomes, induced by Fe(2+)/ascorbate system and measured spectrophotometrically by the TBA-test. The most significant inhibition of lipid peroxidation was observed when methanolic extracts of fully developed, mature corn silk were applied. The same test, performed after fractionation of the most active extract, showed that most of the activity was concentrated in fractions with moderate lipophilicity, containing phenolic acids, flavonoid aglyca and resembling monosides.  相似文献

Repeated examination of the aerial parts of Hypericum perforatum yielded a new degradation product of hyperforin (1) namely deoxyfurohyperforin A (2), together with the previously identified furohyperforin (3), furoadhyperforin (4), furohyperforin A (5a and 5b), pyrano[7,28-b]hyperforin (6) and 3-methyl-4,6-di(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-2-(2-methyl-1-oxopropyl)-3-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-cyclohexanone (7). The antimicrobial activity of the compounds 3, 5a and 5b, 6 and 7 was tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.  相似文献
