A subcutaneous mass at the digit of the left-hind limb of a 12-year-old, male mongrel dog was examined. A white firm mass, approximately 1 x 2 cm in diameter, was excided surgically. Histopathologically, the mass formed multiple nodules consisting of mixed proliferation of round epithelioid cells arranged in cord or sheet-like structures and small spindle cells forming loose irregular bundles. The epithelioid cells often showed proliferation around the blood vessels. A few giant cells scattering in the neoplastic foci were observed. The neoplastic cells were positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin and vimentin, and were negative for cytokeratin (AE1/AE3), desmin, factor-VIII related antigen, S-100 protein, and neuron specific enolase. On the basis of these findings, this tumor was diagnosed as glomus tumor. Since the present neoplasm had neither recurrence nor distal metastasis during the 12 month after surgical resection, the biological natures of the present neoplasm are supposed to be benign.  相似文献

Rendezvous of the Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa with the near-Earth asteroid 25143 Itokawa took place during the interval September through November 2005. The onboard camera imaged the solid surface of this tiny asteroid (535 meters by 294 meters by 209 meters) with a spatial resolution of 70 centimeters per pixel, revealing diverse surface morphologies. Unlike previously explored asteroids, the surface of Itokawa reveals both rough and smooth terrains. Craters generally show unclear morphologies. Numerous boulders on Itokawa's surface suggest a rubble-pile structure.  相似文献

ABSTRACT The severity of bean root rot caused by Fusarium solani f. sp. phaseoli in vitro was studied with regard to exchangeable soil aluminum for 25 soil samples collected from northeastern Honshyu island, Japan. Of these, 24 were Andosols, typically acidic and of volcanic ash origin. Disease severity was assessed based on the number of lesions produced by the pathogen on a 6-cm section of bean stem buried and incubated for 8 days at 25 degrees C in artificially infested soil samples. The number of lesions differed considerably among soil samples. In all soils in which disease incidence was very low, macroconidial germination was strongly inhibited. The inhibition was observed in all soil samples with exchangeable aluminum contents of at least 0.4 meq/100 g of soil, although it is unclear if this concentration is the lowest limit for inhibition. When soil pH was 5.6 or lower, higher amounts of exchangeable aluminum were detected from soils in which the major clay mineralogy was chloritized 2:1 minerals, while no or limited amounts of aluminum were detected from soils in which the major clay mineralogy was allophane/imogolite. Macroconidial germination and disease incidence are thus closely related to clay mineralogy, which regulates the behavior of exchangeable aluminum.  相似文献

To determine the genotypes of Giardia intestinalis from domestic and wild animals in Japan, Giardia isolates obtained from feces of 24 dogs kept in households and breeding kennels, three companion cats, five dairy calves and three wild monkeys, Macaca fuscata, were genotyped using the 177 bp sequence of the glutamete dehydrogenase gene (gdh). The genotypes were assemblages A, C, D or A/D for dog isolates, Assemblage F for cat isolates, assemblages A or E for calf isolates and assemblage B for monkey isolates. This is the first report on the genotypes of Giardia isolates from cats, calves and wild monkeys in Japan.  相似文献

An intact male beagle dog aged 1 year was referred because of shortness of breath, exercise intolerance and cardiac murmur. Based on the results from electrocardiography, thoracic radiography and echocardiography, the dog was diagnosed as Ebstein's anomaly. Although the orally administered digoxin, vasodilators and diuretics partially improved congestive signs, the dog became to be refractory and died 20 months after the diagnosis. Necropsy confirmed malformation and apical displacement of the basal attachment of tricuspid valve leaflets.  相似文献

AIM: To investigate the roles of forkhead box c2( Foxc2 ) in axial skeloton. METHODS: Mice lacking Foxc2 locus were produced by targeted mutation and the developmental anomalies in axial skeleton were analyzed. RESULTS: Foxc2 protein increased markedly in Myoblasts C2C12 after treating with BMP-2, and alkaline phosphatase activity and production of osteocalcin in Myoblasts C2C12 were significantly higher than that in cell lines transfecting antisense Foxc2 sequence. Expressed median cleft palatine, dysplasia of auditory ossicles and vertebral and anteroposterior facial dysplasia were found in all 15 homozygous mouse neonates with targeted mutation of Foxc2 . CONCLUSION: These results suggest that Foxc2 has indispensable roles during skeletogenesis in mesoderm and cells derived from the neural crest.  相似文献

An oligonucleotide probe targeting the rRNA of Erwinia herbicola and Erwinia ananas was designed to detect their cells using fluorescence in situ hybridization. The Cy3-labeled probe hybridized strongly with these species but very weakly with nontarget species such as Erwinia mallotivora, Erwinia nigrifluens, Erwinia cypripedii, Erwinia chrysanthemi, Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora, E. carotovora subsp. atroseptica, and Escherichia coli. This technique visualized E. herbicola cells after inoculation of kumquat fruits. The probe is promising as a tool for studying population dynamics of E. herbicola and E. ananas.  相似文献

The pathogenic races of 450 cultures of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, isolated from eight locations in the inland mountainous area of Hiroshima Prefecture during 2000 to 2003, were determined with a set of Japanese differentials. The rice cultivars infected with the bacterium are thought to be in the Kinmaze group, which does not have any resistance genes. Five Japanese races IA, IB, II, V, and VII occurred across the area, although the composition of the races in each location altered during the surveyed 4 years.  相似文献

Extracellular matrix components (ECMs) in histological sections of the kidney cortex from the rats with adriamycin (ADR)-induced nephropathy (5 mg/kg, i.v.) were quantified by an immunohistochemical micromethod. Changes in kidney histopathology and urine and blood biochemistry were investigated. Enlarged kidneys were granular on the surface and pale in color in ADR-treated rats, and these rats had kidneys with glomeruli with expanded mesangial area and with capillary aneurysm. Severe albuminuria, hypoalbuminemia, hypercholesterolemia and disorders in other nephrotic parameters were observed in ADR-treated rats. Type I and IV collagens, fibronectin and laminin contents in the renal cortex of ADR-treated rats at 10 weeks were 329, 317, 263 and 295%, respectively, higher than in each vehicle control, and those at 28 weeks were 1,211, 930, 1,057 and 1,012%, respectively. The glomerular sclerotic abnormalities progressed in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, there was a strong correlation between the ECM levels and serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels. In conclusion, microquantification provided useful information for accurate diagnosis and prognosis of nephrotic lesions and is a good tool to assess the advancement of renal disorders in patients with nephropathy.  相似文献

Analysis of cellular components at multiple levels of biological information can provide valuable functional insights. We performed multiple high-throughput measurements to study the response of Escherichia coli cells to genetic and environmental perturbations. Analysis of metabolic enzyme gene disruptants revealed unexpectedly small changes in messenger RNA and proteins for most disruptants. Overall, metabolite levels were also stable, reflecting the rerouting of fluxes in the metabolic network. In contrast, E. coli actively regulated enzyme levels to maintain a stable metabolic state in response to changes in growth rate. E. coli thus seems to use complementary strategies that result in a metabolic network robust against perturbations.  相似文献
