An outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 (RHDV2)-associated disease occurred in the southwestern United States following its first detection in New Mexico in March 2020. The disease spread throughout several states and was diagnosed for the first time in California on May 11, 2020, in a black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus). The following day, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) issued an order banning the entrance into California of several lagomorph species and their products from any state in which the disease had been detected in the last 12 mo. RHDV2 is a threat to wild lagomorph species in California, including the endangered riparian brush rabbit (Sylvilagus bachmani riparius). Therefore, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) started tracking any mortality event in wild lagomorph populations. As of August 9, 2020, RHDV2 had been detected in wild and domestic lagomorphs of several counties in southern California that were submitted to the California Animal Health and Food Safety laboratory system by the CDFA or the CDFW. These positive cases included 2 additional black-tailed jackrabbits and 3 desert cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus audubonii). In addition, the infection spilled over to domestic populations, whereby it was confirmed on July 10, 2020, in a domestic rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus).  相似文献

Cardiopulmonary effects of prostacyclin infusion in anesthetized horses   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Prostacyclin was infused IV into 6 horses anesthetized with halothane. Three dosage rates (10, 30, and 100 ng/kg of body weight/min) were evaluated in each horse. Facial and pulmonary artery pressures, heart rate, cardiac output, blood temperature, and arterial and mixed venous pH, PCO2, and PO2 were measured. Arterial blood was collected for determination of glucose, lactate, and PCV. Mixed venous blood was sampled for assay of 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha and catecholamines. Infusion of prostacyclin at 10 ng/kg/min had no effect on the variables measured, whereas the 30 ng/kg/min dosage decreased diastolic and mean arterial pressure at 15 and 30 minutes and PaO2 at 15 minutes (P less than 0.05). Prostacyclin infusion at 100 ng/kg/min significantly decreased arterial pressure, total vascular resistance, and total pulmonary resistance. Heart rate increased slightly, and cardiac output increased by 44%. Arterial PO2 decreased from 311 mm of Hg to 137 and 135 mm of Hg at 15 and 30 minutes, respectively. Blood glucose was increased. Prostacyclin infusions of 30 and 100 ng/kg/min increased blood concentrations of 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha by factors of 5 and 40, respectively. Significant changes in catecholamine concentrations did not occur.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To examine school-level relationships between deprivation and breakfast eating behaviours (breakfast skipping and the healthfulness of foods consumed) in 9-11-year-old schoolchildren and to examine whether attitudes towards eating breakfast mediated these relationships. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey. SETTING: One hundred and eleven primary schools in Wales. SUBJECTS: Year 5 and 6 pupils within the 111 primary schools. Measures were completed by 4314 children. Analysis was conducted at the group (school) level, with each school representing one group. RESULTS: Deprivation was positively associated with breakfast skipping and consumption of 'unhealthy' items (i.e. sweet snacks, crisps) for breakfast. A significant negative association was found between deprivation and consumption of 'healthy' items (i.e. fruit, bread, cereal, milk). Deprivation was significantly inversely associated with attitudes towards eating breakfast. The relationships between deprivation and (1) breakfast skipping and (2) consumption of 'healthy' items for breakfast were mediated by attitudes towards eating breakfast. The hypothesis that attitudes mediated the relationship between deprivation and consumption of 'unhealthy' breakfast items was unsupported. CONCLUSIONS: Deprivation is associated with adverse breakfast eating behaviours amongst children aged 9-11 years, in terms of breakfast skipping and the quality of breakfasts consumed. Socio-economic differences in attitudes towards eating breakfast are apparent amongst this age group, and appear to relate to social gradients in breakfast eating behaviours. Research is needed to examine the causal nature of these trends and to elucidate factors underlying the development of socio-economic differences in eating-related cognitions.  相似文献

Approximately 200 opossums, trapped during the fall of 1973 in the vicinity of Raleigh, NC, were maintained in the Institute's breeding colony in individual cages until the breeding season. Clinically normal, dead, and moribund opossums were examined for Salmonella. Six serotypes of Salmonella were identified in both clinically normal and diseased opossums. Positive culture results were obtained on 39 of 56 (70%) rectal swab specimens collected in the fall from incoming opossums, and on 30 of 50 (60%) rectal swab specimens collected during midwinter from an additional group of clinically normal opossums, which were maintained in isolation for approximately 3 months before testing. At necropsy, 87 of 108 (81%) diseased opossums were culture positive for Salmonella. Salmonellae in serogroups B and R were isolated from the spleen, liver, kidneys, or heart blood as well as the ileum of 57 diseased opossums. In 23 cases, S typhimurium or S bern was isolated in pure culture from the visceral organs. These findings indicated bacterial septicemia. In contrast, salmonellae in serogroups C1, E1, and F were routinely isolated from the feces of clinically normal and diseased opossums, suggesting a habitat restricted to the intestinal tract and probably the mesenteric lymph nodes. It was concluded that the opossum serves as a reservoir for a number of serotypes of Salmonella and may have an important role in the epizootiology of wildlife salmonellosis.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine sensitivity and specificity of a cow-side immunoassay kit for assessing IgG concentration in colostrum. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 76 dairy and 11 beef cows of various parities. PROCEDURE: Colostrum from first, second, and third milkings and milk samples were collected, and IgG concentration was determined by means of radial immunodiffusion. The immunoassay was performed according to the manufacturer's instructions, and sensitivity and specificity were calculated by comparing results of the immunoassay (positive vs negative) with results of immunodiffusion (< 50 g/L vs > or = 50 g/L). RESULTS: 135 colostrum or milk samples were collected. Mean +/- SD colostral IgG concentrations, determined by means of radial immunodiffusion for dairy and beef cows were 65.4 +/- 51.4 g/L and 114.8 +/- 42.7 g/L, respectively. Mean IgG concentrations for first-, second-, and third-milking colostrum samples and for milk samples were 92 +/- 49.0 g/L, 74.6 +/- 45.1 g/L, 47.5 +/- 32 g/L, and 6.8 +/- 3.8 g/L, respectively. Sensitivity of the immunoassay (ie, percentage of samples with IgG concentration < 50 g/L with a positive immunoassay result) was 93%, and specificity (ie, percentage of samples with IgG concentration > or = 50 g/L with a negative immunoassay result) was 76%. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggested that the immunoassay kit was an acceptable cow-side test to identify colostrum samples with IgG concentrations < 50 g/L. The immunoassay kit should be useful in screening colostrum for adequate IgG concentration before feeding to calves or storage.  相似文献

Ketamine has been implicated as causing increases in intraocular pressure. The purpose of this study is to document the effects of ketamine, diazepam, and their combination on intraocular pressure (IOP) in normal, unpremedicated dogs. Random-source dogs were assigned to one of five groups of 10 dogs each: ketamine 5 mg kg–1 (KET5), ketamine 10 mg kg–1 (KET10), diazepam 0.5 mg kg–1 (VAL), ketamine 10 mg kg–1 with diazepam 0.5 mg kg–1 (KETVAL), saline 0.1 mL kg–1 (SAL), all given intravenously. A baseline IOP was measured before injection, immediately after injection, and at 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes following injection. IOP was increased over baseline immediately after injection in the KET5, KET10, and KETVAL groups; at 5, 10, and 15 minutes in the KET5 group; and at 20 minutes in the KETVAL group. The mean IOP change compared to SAL increased immediately after injection and at 5 minutes in the KET5, KET10, and KETVAL groups; at 10 and 15 minutes in the KET5 group, and at 20 minutes in the KETVAL group. The mean IOP increased up to 5.7, 3.2, and 3.1 mm Hg over mean baseline in the KET5, KET10, and KETVAL groups, respectively. All dogs in the KET5 group and the majority in the KETVAL and KET10 groups had an increase in their IOP over baseline. Ketamine caused a clinically and statistically significant elevation in IOP over baseline and compared to SAL. The concurrent addition of diazepam did not blunt this increase. Ketamine should be avoided in dogs with corneal trauma, glaucoma, or in those undergoing intraocular surgery.  相似文献
