This study was carried out in the Seed Research Laboratory of the Department of Crop Science, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, in summer 2011. Rice (cv. Khazar) seeds were soaked in 0, 20, 50, and 100 mg l?1 salicylic acid (SA) aerated solutions for 24 h and then dried back to original moisture content and were sown in three temperatures (28°C as normal and 12°C and 8°C as chilling temperature conditions). In the first step, both treated and untreated seeds were sown at the optimum temperature (28°C). Then, to apply chilling temperature, 15 days after sowing, one set of the seeds was exposed to 12°C and 8°C under controlled conditions. Results showed that all seedlings raised from seeds primed with SA solutions produced a higher root and shoot length, final emergence percentage, and relative water content and also lower mean emergence time and time to 50% emergence (E50) in comparison with untreated seeds. Antioxidant enzyme system efficiently responded to the stress conditions and the priming treatment. Also seedling raised from primed seeds showed higher antioxidant activity at each temperature compared with control.  相似文献

While interest in and adoption of graywater reuse for irrigation has rapidly grown in recent years, little is known about the long-term effects of graywater irrigation. Concerns exist in relation to the presence of pathogenic organisms, fate of personal care products, and accumulation of salts. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the long-term effects of graywater irrigation to soil quality under real conditions where homeowners may not always apply graywater in a highly controlled manner. Four households from different climatic and geological conditions were selected for sampling (AZ, CA, CO, and TX) where graywater was applied for irrigation for a minimum of 5?years. Soil samples were collected in areas irrigated with graywater and areas irrigated with freshwater within the same yard. Soil cores were taken at depths of 0?C15, 15?C30, and 30?C100?cm and analyzed separately for surfactants, antimicrobials, sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), electrical conductivity (EC), extractable boron, fecal indicator organisms (E. coli, enterococci, and Clostridium perfringens), and soil dehydrogenase activity. In surface soil samples (0?C15?cm), the average total surfactant concentration (over all sites) was higher in graywater-irrigated soil (0.078?±?0.033) compared to freshwater-irrigated soil (0.030?±?0.025?mg?kg?1). This difference was not found to be significant (P?>?0.05). Triclosan and triclocarban were detected in surface soil samples at some locations (3.8?C6.3 and 3.5?C9.1???g?kg?1, respectively), but not in samples deeper than 15?cm. Among the sampling locations, the TX household appeared to be most impacted by graywater, as evidenced by elevated SAR, potentially toxic levels of B, and relatively high numbers of E. coli and enterococci due to 30?years of graywater application for irrigation.  相似文献

In this study, the correlation between abomasal ulcers and presence of Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) was evaluated in 80 (50 affected and 30 non affected) randomly slaughtered buffaloes in Ahvaz slaughterhouse. Immediately after the slaughter, the abomasums was isolated and an incision was made on the wall of it. Then the abomasums were emptied and its interior was washed with water. The inner surface was examined for presence of abnormal lesion. Ulcers from affected and piece of abomasa from non affected buffaloes were cultured. Cultures were also made from contents of all samples and smears were also prepared from affected and non affected tissues. Cultures from content samples (12%) of 50 ulcerated abomasa were positive for C. perfringens while the agents were isolated from 1 content (3.3%) of non ulcerated abomasa. There was no statistical difference between presence of C. perfringens in contents and abomasal ulcers. Totally C. perfringens were isolated from ulcers of 6 (12%) ulcerated and tissues of 3 (10%) non ulcerated cases. Statistical analysis showed no correlation between presences of C. perfringens and abomasal ulcers. There was no statistical difference between sex and age of the affected animals. In conclusion C. perfringens seems not to be solely, a cause ofabomasal ulcers in buffaloes.  相似文献

The effect of various feeding strategies was evaluated on growth performance and biochemical parameters in two sizes of Siberian sturgeon (465.75?±?11.18 and 250.40?±?12 g) during 45 days. Fish were distributed into six experimental treatments including large fish with satiation feeding (LA), small fish with satiation feeding (SA), large fish with 50% satiation feeding (LR), small fish with 50% satiation feeding (SR), large starved fish (LS), and small starved fish (SS). Differences in final weight between LA and LR treatments were not noticeable, whereas SA and SR treatments showed significant differences. Growth parameters were more affected in small fish. In condition factor and weight gain in starved treatments, a considerable reduction occurred by interaction between feeding strategies and fish size, so the lowest values were obtained in SS treatment. Glucose levels significantly decreased in small fish during the starvation. Interaction between feeding strategy and fish size indicated the highest and lowest albumin level in SA and SS treatment, respectively. Cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, and globulin showed no significant differences. It can be deduced that small fish are more sensitive to starvation than the large fish. Since glucose and albumin showed significant decrease in starved small fish, these parameters can help to monitor nutritional status and feeding practices. It was indicated that in both sizes of Siberian sturgeon, feeding 50% satiation reduced the food cost without negative impact on physiological condition, and it can be considered as an appropriate strategy to face unfavorable circumstances.  相似文献

This study reports on the phenotypic and genetic (co)variance components for reproductive traits in Zandi sheep, using between 1,859 and 2,588 records obtained from 577 ewes. The data were collected from the Khojir Breeding Station of Zandi sheep in Tehran, Iran from 1994 to 2008. The basic traits were litter size at birth (LSB), litter size at weaning (LSW), litter mean weight per lamb born (LMWLB), and litter mean weight per lamb weaned (LMWLW), and the composite traits were total litter weight at birth (TLWB) and total litter weight at weaning (TLWW). Genetic analyses were carried out using the restricted maximum likelihood method that was explored by fitting the additive direct genetic effects and permanent environmental effects of the ewes as random effects and the ewe age at lambing and lambing year as fixed effects for all of the investigated traits. Akaike’s information criterion was used to choose the most appropriate model. LSB, LSW, LMWLB, LMWLW, TLWB, and TLWW direct heritability estimates were 0.07, 0.05, 0.12, 0.10, 0.08, and 0.14, respectively. The estimated fractions of variance due to the permanent environmental effects of the ewe ranged from 0.03 for LMWLB to 0.08 for LMWLW and TLWW. Corresponding repeatability estimates ranged from 0.10 for LSW to 0.22 for TLWW. Direct genetic correlations varied from ?0.61 for LSB–LMWLB to 0.88 for LSB–LSW and LSB–TLWB. Results indicate that genetic change depends not only on the heritability of traits, but also on the observed phenotypic variation; therefore, improvement of non-genetic factors should be included in the breeding programs.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo determine the effects of ketamine-diazepam and ketamine-acepromazine combinations on intraocular pressure (IOP) in rabbits.Study designRandomized clinical trial.AnimalsSixteen adult New Zealand white rabbits approximately one year old, weighing 2.3 ± 0.2 kg were used in this study.MethodsThe animals were randomly divided into two groups of eight each (KA and KD). The pre-treatment IOPs were recorded in both groups (T0). All rabbits in group KA received intramuscular ketamine-acepromazine (ketamine 30 mg kg?1+ acepromazine 0.5 mg kg?1). Ketamine-diazepam (ketamine 30 mg kg?1 + diazepam 1 mg kg?1) was administered intramuscularly in members of group KD. The IOP values were measured at 5 (T5), 15 (T15), and 20 (T20) minutes after drug administration in both treatment groups.ResultsSignificant increases in IOP values were observed in both treatment groups at T5, T15, and T20 in comparison to the baseline values. In group KA the mean ± SD IOP at T5, T15, and T20 were 37 ± 13 (p < 0.001), 35 ± 4 (p < 0.001) and 34 ± 4 mmHg (p < 0.001). The post-treatment mean ± sd values in group KD were 23 ± 8 (p = 0.002), 23 ± 5 (p < 0.001) and 23 ± 6 mmHg (p = 0.001) at 5, 15, and 20 minutes respectively.Conclusion and clinical relevanceBoth ketamine-diazepam and ketamine-acepromazine combinations increased IOP after intramuscular administration in rabbits.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to prepare nanofibers loaded with montelukast, a cysteinyl leukotrienes (CysLTs) inhibitor, with anti-inflammatory properties effective on wound healing. Polymeric nanofibers containing montelukast were spun by electrospinning method using different ratios of the blend of two biodegradable polymers of poly(methyl vinyl etherco-maleic acid) (PMVEMA) and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) at the total polymer concentration of 37 %, the distance of the needle to rotating screen of 19 cm, the voltage of 12 Kv and the rate of injection of 0.2 ml/h. The ratio of two polymers in the blend and the concentration of montelukast were optimized based on the diameter of the nanofibers, drug loading percent and release efficiency by a full factorial design. The morphology, diameter and diameter distribution of the nanofibers were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Drug loading percent in the nanofibers was determined by extracting the loaded drug from a specific surface of the nanofibers which was subsequently analyzed spectrophotometrically. The drug release rate from the nanofibers was studied in phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.4) containing 0.5 % Tween 20 at predetermined time intervals until 10 days. The cytotoxicity of the designed nanofibers was evaluated on mouse fibroblast cells using trypan blue method, their platelet adherence property was quantified by measuring the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and confirmed by SEM micrographs. The optimized ratio of PLGA/PMVEMA was 3:1 with the total concentration of polymers as 37 % loaded with 30 % of montelukast produced nanofibers with a diameter of 157.6 nm, drug loading percent of 43.7 % and release efficiency of 75 % after 10 days. The cell viability was similar in nanofibers and the negative control group. The platelets adhesion to the nanofibers was more than the negative control group (p<0.05).  相似文献

Prediction of pH is an important issue in managing water quality in surface waters (e.g., rivers, lakes) as well as drinking water. The capacity of artificial neural network (ANN), wavelet-artificial neural network (WANN), traditional multiple linear regression (MLR), and wavelet-multiple linear regression (WMLR) models to predict daily pH levels (1, 2, and 3 days ahead) at the Chattahoochee River gauging station (near Atlanta, GA, USA) was assessed. In the proposed WANN model, the original time series of pH and discharge (Q) were decomposed (after being split into training and testing series) into several sub-series by the the à trous (AT) wavelet transform algorithm. The wavelet coefficients were summed to obtain useful input time series for the ANN model to then develop the WANN model for pH prediction. The redundant à trous algorithm was used for data decomposition. Model implementation indicated the values of 1-day-ahead pH predicted by the WANN model closely matched the observed values (with a coefficient of determination, R2?=?0.956; Root Mean Square Error, RMSE?=?0.019; and Mean Absolute Error, MAE?=?0.015). It is therefore possible that the WANN model’s accuracy can be attributed to its better predictive ability (due to the use of the AT) to remove the noise caused by pH shifts (e.g., acid precipitation). Peak pH values predicted by the WANN model were also closer to observed values compared to the other machine learning models.  相似文献

The potential of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) in the visible-near infrared (445-945 nm) wavelength range to discriminate between casing soil, enzymatic browning and undamaged tissue on mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) surfaces was investigated. A calibration set of 108 damage free mushrooms, grown under controlled conditions in a research station, were first tested as undamaged class (U) and then were divided into 2 groups of 54 samples. The first group was smeared with casing soil and designated as casing soil class (C) and the second group was subjected to vibrational damage resulting in enzymatic browning and designated as damaged class (D). Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models were developed to classify mushroom tissue as one of the three classes investigated (U, C and D) using pixel spectra from each class. Prediction maps were obtained by applying the developed models to the hyperspectral images of candidate mushrooms. Percentages of pixels classified into each class were also calculated for the mushrooms studied in the calibration set. Results obtained showed that the developed models performed satisfactorily to discriminate between the 3 classes studied. Comparison of red-green-blue (RGB) and hyperspectral image analysis showed that HSI was better able to identify the regions containing casing soil. Model validation was performed using 3 different test sets of mushrooms obtained from a commercial producer. It was found that the developed PLS-DA models were satisfactorily capable of identifying undamaged regions, casing soil and enzymatic damaged areas on mushrooms from the validation sets.  相似文献
