The detection of winter SO2 pollution effects on young spruce. A comparison of three methods. The suitability, sensitivity and tediousness of three methods (turbidity-test, peroxidase activity, buffering capacity) were compared for detecting the effect of SO2 pollution in winter on spruce seedlings. Buffering capacity failed to detect a difference between controls and fumigated trees. Turbidity test and peroxidase activity yielded statistically significant differences. The turbidity test is less tedious but also less sensitive than peroxidase activity and its use is restricted to conifers. 相似文献

The insecticidal efficacy of the diatomaceous earth formulation SilicoSec® (Agrinova GmbH, Germany) against the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) was evaluated on peeled rice, paddy rice, maize and barley in laboratory tests. SilicoSec was applied at five dose rates: 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 g/kg of grain. The treated grains were infested with S. oryzae adults, and the weevil mortality was estimated after 24, 48 h, 7 and 14 d of exposure on treated grain. After the 14 d counts, all the exposed adults were removed and progeny production on treated grains was assessed 45 and 90 d later. Insecticidal efficacy of SilicoSec against the rice weevil was highly affected by grain type, exposure interval and dose rate. In all grains tested, longer exposure intervals increased weevil mortality. The efficacy of SilicoSec on maize was not satisfactory, given that after a 14 d exposure at the highest dose rate the mortality did not exceed 65%. Moreover, progeny production on treated maize was high, regardless of the dose rate. On the other hand, 100% of weevils were dead on barley treated with the two highest dose rates of SilicoSec, after a 7 d exposure. However, a complete suppression of progeny production on treated barley was not achieved, even at the highest dose rate. A satisfactory level of protection was recorded on paddy rice treated with 1 and 1.5 g of SilicoSec/kg. At these two rates, all adults were dead after a 7 d exposure, and no progeny were produced during the 90 d incubation period. In contrast, the mortality on peeled rice treated with 1.5 g of SilicoSec/kg did not reach 100%, even after 14 d of exposure, and a high number of progeny were recorded. 相似文献

The interactions of whey protein isolate (WPI) and flavor compounds (2-nonanone, 1-nonanal, and trans-2-nonenal) were investigated, and the influence of flavor compound structure and heat and high pressure denaturation on the interactions were determined by using headspace solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography (GC). The binding of WPI and the flavor compounds decreased in the order trans-2-nonenal > 1-nonanal > 2-nonanone. The differences in binding can be explained with hydrophobic interactions only in the case of 2-nonanone, whereas the aldehydes, in particular trans-2-nonenal, can also react covalently. Heat and high pressure treatment affected protein-flavor interactions depending on the structure of the flavor compound. Upon both heat and high pressure denaturation, the binding of 2-nonanone to WPI decreased, while the binding of 1-nonanal remained unchanged, and the affinity for trans-2-nonenal increased rapidly. The results suggest that hydrophobic interactions are weakened upon heat or high pressure denaturation, whereas covalent interactions are enhanced. 相似文献

As the sustainable forest biomass harvesting process is highly influenced by the terrain, the heterogeneity, and the protection status of the landscape, this study highlights the GIS and Remote Sensing as important scientific tools, assisting in the planning process and integrating the appropriate spatial limitations for an ecological forest biomass extraction in a rational bioenergy utilization framework. This study is focused on the northwest Greece and particularly in the regional unit of Grevena which is part of the Western Macedonia region, the region with the highest unemployment rates in Greece. As the forests in the regional unit of Grevena occupy a significant percentage over half of the regional unit area, the emphasis on the sustainable harvesting and utilization of forest biomass for energy purposes could tackle unemployment rates, enhance the energy autonomy of the remote mountain villages, and reduce the Mediterranean forest fire risk. The spatial data process and the implied spatial limitations unfold a methodology procedure, which is revealing specifically quantified and illustrated results as are emerging progressively the oak forests of the regional unit of Grevena with biomass harvesting capabilities, which do not belong to the Grevena’s protected areas, have accessible slopes and lower diversity index. 相似文献

Published radiotherapy results for spinal nephroblastomas in dogs are limited. In this retrospective longitudinal study (1/2007–1/2022), five dogs with a median age of 2.8 years received post-operative 3D conformal, conventional fractionated radiotherapy (CFRT) with 2–4 fields (parallel-opposed with or without two hinge-angle fields), for an incompletely resected nephroblastoma. Clinical findings prior to surgery included one or more of the following: pelvic limb paresis (5), faecal incontinence (2), flaccid tail (1), non-ambulatory (2) and deep pain loss (1). All masses were located between T11 and L3 and surgically removed via hemilaminectomy. Dogs received 45–50 Gray (Gy) in 18–20 fractions, and no dogs received chemotherapy post-radiation. At analysis, all dogs were deceased, with none lost to follow-up. The median overall survival (OS) from first treatment to death of any cause was 3.4 years (1234 days; 95% CI 68 days-upper limit not reached; range: 68–3607 days). The median planning target volume was 51.3 cc, with a median PTV dose of 51.4 Gy and median D98 = 48.3 Gy. Late complications or recurrence was difficult to fully determine in this small dataset; however, some degree of ataxia persisted throughout life in all dogs. This study provides preliminary evidence that post-operative radiotherapy may result in prolonged survival times dogs with spinal nephroblastomas. 相似文献

Metabolite Profiling—A Fractionation Method for Analysis of Major and Minor Compounds in Rice Grains
A metabolite profiling methodology was developed using rice as model crop. The approach is based on consecutive extraction of lipids and polar compounds and subsequent fractionations of both extracts. Transesterification‐solid phase extraction (lipids) and selective hydrolysis of silylated derivatives (polar compounds) are applied to separate major from minor constituents. The method covers a broad spectrum of chemical classes. Preliminary investigation of the four fractions by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis of silylated derivatives identified more than 100 compounds. This unbiased approach can serve as an additional analytical tool for the safety assessment of genetically modified crops and may help to increase the chance to detect unintended effects due to the application of recombinant DNA techniques. 相似文献
