Summary The three nonparametric measures of phenotypic stability Si (1), Si (2) and Si (3) introduced and discussed in Huehn (1990) and the classical parameters: environmental variance, ecovalence, regression coefficient, and sum of squared deviations from regression were computed for winter wheat grain yield data from the official registration trials (1974, 1975 and 1976) in the Federal Republic of Germany.The similarity of the resulting stability rank orders of the genotypes which are obtained by applying different stability parameters were compared using rank correlation coefficients. The correlations between each of Si (1), Si (2) and Si (3) and the classical stability parameters were different in sign and very low for regression coefficient and environmental variance, but positive and medium for ecovalence and sum of squared deviations from regression (except Si (3) in 1976). The differences between the correlations for the 3 years were considerable.The parameters Si (1) and Si (2) were very strong intercorrelated with each other with a good agreement of the correlations for the different years. This transformation xijxij * reduced individual and global significances (stability of single genotypes and stability differences between all the tested genotypes) drastically. The predictability of yields from one set of environments to another set of environments is usually very poor. In this paper, a simple theoretical result on the variance of phenotypic stability is proposed. The variance of the stability parameter ‘environmental variance’(measured by the coefficient of variation)depends on the number of included environments and on the kurtosis of the underlying data set. The variance is very large even for a larger number of environments. The variance is some what reduced by a negative kurtosis. The theoretical results and conclusions are demonstrated for a data set of grain yields of winter wheat [one cultivar (‘Diplomat’),one location, 24 years]. Theoretically expected and experimentally obtained values are in moderate agreement. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary The variation of the two parameters, harvest index and grain/straw-ratio, has been theoretically compared by applying the relative measure coefficient of variation. The harvest index exhibits a clear superiority (= lower variation) compared to the grain/straw-ratio.Applications to ten European winter oilseed rape cultivars and lines are in an excellent agreement with the theoretical findings.  相似文献

Summary For an estimation of phenotypic stability of genotypes grown in different environments three stability parameters have been proposed which are based upon the ranks of the genotypes in each environment: In a two-way table with K rows (genotypes) and N columns (environments) the original data xij (=phenotypic value of the i th genotype in the j th environment (i=1,2,...,K;j=1,2,...,N)) are transformed into ranks for each of the N environments separately. We denote: rij=rank of genotype i in environment j. Then, a genotype i may be considered to be stable over environments if its ranks are similar over environments (maximum stability = equal ranks over environments). Each statistic for the similarity of the ranks in each row = genotype may be used as a stability parameter. Three different measures are proposed and discussed.One of these nonparametric measures is defined as a ratio between variability of the rij's and mean of the rij's and, therefore, it represents a confounding and simultaneous consideration of stability and yield.Differences among genotypes have an effect on the stability measures and may lead to differences in stability among genotypes when in fact there is no genotype-environment interaction. To avoid this ambiguity one may correct the xij values for the genotypic effects and the nonparametric measures may be computed using the ranks based on the corrected values xij *=xij–(\-xi.–\-x..)where \-xi.=marginal mean of genotype i and \-x\2=overall mean.Finally, approximate tests of significance based on the normal distribution are discussed for the two nonparametric measures mean absolute rank difference and variance of the ranks for 1) testing the stability of a certain genotype and 2) comparing the stabilities of different genotypes.  相似文献

Ninety percent of the pines (P. Sylvestris) in the forests of Berlin (West) are classified as damaged. Needle and leaf analyses do not indicate nutrient deficiencies. In site of high S-inputs (55 kg ha?1 yr?1 with throughfall) total acid inputs are moderate (2.4 kmol ha?1 yr?1) due to their neutralization by carbonatic dusts. Heavy metal depositions have led to accumulations in the forest floor (e.g. Pb 150 mg kg?1, Cd 0.5 mg kg?1). The dominating soil type, a cambic arenosol (Ustipsamment) is strongly acidified (pH 3.2 – 4.0) and poor in available nutrients. On an experimental plot, the application of dolomitic lime (6.1 tons ha?1) and fertilizer (145 kg ha?1 K2SO4) led to a significant increase m pH and base saturation in the top 10 cm of the mineral soil after 2 yr. The data on element fluxes give evidence for increased mineralization rates, enhanced heavy metal accumulation in the forest floor and increased soil solution concentrations of potentially hazardous substances (Al, Cd, NO3). The lime application is discussed in terms of site specific effects on ecosystem stability and groundwater quality.  相似文献

It is still unclear whether the carcinogenic mycotoxin ochratoxin A (OTA) is bioactivated to DNA-binding metabolites in rodents and humans. Therefore, we have incubated cultured rat and human primary hepatocytes with noncytotoxic concentrations of (3)H-OTA ranging from 10(-7) to 10(-5) M for 8 h and determined its metabolism and covalent DNA binding. In rat hepatocytes, OTA was metabolized to small amounts of three products, which were further studied by electrospray ionization (ESI)-MS/MS techniques. In addition to 4-hydroxy-OTA, which is a known product of OTA biotransformation, two novel metabolites were detected and tentatively identified as hexose and pentose conjugates of OTA. The in vitro induction with 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC) increased the formation of 4-hydroxy-OTA but did not alter the formation of the conjugated metabolites. No covalent binding of (3)H-OTA or its metabolites to DNA was observed in rat hepatocytes with or without 3MC induction with a limit of detection of 2 adducts per 10(9) nucleotides. However, the cellular ratio of reduced glutathione to oxidized glutathione was significantly decreased by treatment with OTA. In cultured human hepatocytes, (3)H-OTA was only very poorly metabolized, and no covalent DNA binding was observed. In conclusion, the results of this in vitro study do not support the notion that OTA has the potential to undergo metabolic activation and form covalent DNA adducts in rodents and humans.  相似文献

Assessment of critical values of phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium contents in arable soils Long-term fertilizer field experiments were carried out in order to calibrate soil test values for P, K, and Mg. In several years treatments gradually resulted in differences of soil nutrient contents. This made it possible to investigate the effect of fertilizer application on the relation between yield of plants and soil nutrient content. Methods were suggested to evaluate these relationships and to calculate critical soil nutrient contents. Emphasis was mainly directed towards the definition of level 3 of nutrient supply because it represents the aim of economic fertilizer application.  相似文献

A previous study demonstrated that cabbage was P efficient compared to carrot and potato. However, calculating plant P uptake by a mechanistic simulation model based on P transport by diffusion and mass flow, P uptake of roots according to the Michaelis‐Menten kinetics, and morphological root characteristics including root hairs, revealed that these parameters could explain only 2/5 of the total P uptake of cabbage, but 4/5 of that of carrot and potato (Dechassa et al., 2003). Therefore, it was hypothesized that a higher root exudation of organic anions may enhance P mobilization and hence P uptake of cabbage. The objective of this research was to determine root exudation of organic anions by the three species, and to investigate the influence of plant age and dark/light period on organic‐anion exudation by cabbage. Experiments were conducted in a growth chamber in nutrient solution with or without P. Organic anions were determined in root exudates and in root tissue. With cabbage and potato, P deficiency induced exudation of citrate and succinate, respectively. Citrate‐exudation rate of P‐deficient cabbage plants was correlated with accumulation of citrate in root tissue. In contrast, high succinate‐exudation rates in potato were not correlated with an increased concentration in root tissue. For carrot, no change was observed in the exudation of any of the organic anions in response to P deficiency. The results also showed that succinate‐ and citrate‐exudation rates of cabbage roots increased with increased plant age. There was also a significant increase in exudation rates of organic anions of cabbage roots during the light period of the day. It was concluded that cabbage had the ability to exude large amounts of citrate in response to P deficiency by which it can additionally enhance its P‐uptake efficiency, whereas carrot and potato showed little evidence of possessing such a mechanism.  相似文献

The application of LC-NMR/MS for the direct identification of carbohydrates in beer has been studied. Carbohydrates are major beer components, and their structural characterization by NMR alone is seriously hindered by strong spectroscopic overlap. Direct analysis of beer by LC-NMR/MS enables the rapid (1-2 h) identification of dextrins with degree of polymerization (DP) of up to nine monomers, with degassing being the only sample treatment required. Although the presence of alpha(1-->6) branching points is easily indicated by NMR for each subfraction separated by LC, difficulties arise for the unambiguous assignment of linear or branched forms of high DP dextrins. The two beer samples investigated in this work were found to have significantly different oligosaccharide compositions, reflecting the different production conditions employed. The use of hyphenated NMR for the rapid characterization of the carbohydrate composition of beers may be the basis of a useful tool for the quality control of beer.  相似文献
