Babesia, the causal agent of babesiosis, are tick-borne apicomplexan protozoa. True babesiae (Babesia genus sensu stricto) are biologically characterized by direct development in erythrocytes and by transovarial transmission in the tick. A large number of true Babesia species have been described in various vertebrate and tick hosts. This review presents the genus then discusses specific adaptations of Babesia spp. to their hosts to achieve efficient transmission. The main adaptations lead to long-lasting interactions which result in the induction of two reservoirs: in the vertebrate host during low long-term parasitemia and throughout the life cycle of the tick host as a result of transovarial and transstadial transmission. The molecular bases of these adaptations in vertebrate hosts are partially known but few of the tick-host interaction mechanisms have been elucidated. 相似文献

Measurements of local environmental conditions, intensity of Fusarium head blight (FHB) in wheat spikes, biomass of Fusarium graminearum, F. culmorum, and F. poae (pathogens causing FHB) and concentration of the mycotoxins deoxynivalenol (DON) and nivalenol (NIV) in harvested wheat grain were obtained in a total of 150 location-years, originating in three European countries (Hungary, Ireland, United Kingdom) from 2001 to 2004. Through window-pane methodology, the length and starting time of temporal windows where the environmental variables were significantly associated with the biological variables were identified. Window lengths of 5 to 30?days were evaluated, with starting times from 18?days before anthesis to harvest. Associations were quantified with nonparametric Spearman correlation coefficients. All biological variables were significantly associated with at least one evaluated environmental variable (P?≤?0.05). Moisture-related variables (e.g., average relative humidity, hours of relative humidity above 80%) had the highest positive correlations with the biological variables, but there also was a significant negative correlation between average temperature and several biological variables. When significant correlations were found, they were generally for all window lengths, but for a limited number of window start times (generally before anthesis for disease index and after anthesis for the toxins and late-season fungal biomasses). Semi-partial Spearman correlation coefficients were used to evaluate the relationship between the environmental variables and the concentration of DON and NIV after the effects of FHB intensity and fungal biomass on the mycotoxins were removed. Significant semi-partial correlations were found between relative humidity variables and DON, and between temperature and relative humidity variables and NIV for time windows that started after anthesis (and not for any earlier time windows). Results confirm that the environment influences disease, fungal biomass, and mycotoxin production, and help refine the time windows where the association is greatest. However, variability in the relationships was high, indicating that no single environmental variable is sufficient for prediction of disease or mycotoxin contamination. 相似文献

Babesia divergens was cultivated in sheep erythrocytes in RPMI 1640 supplemented with 10% Fetal Calf Serum (FCS) or sheep serum. In vitro cultures in sheep red blood cells were initiated with human erythrocytes infected in vitro with B. divergens Rouen 1987 or with gerbil blood infected with several isolates from bovine origin. After the first subcultures on sheep erythrocytes, a ten-fold multiplication of the parasites was obtained within 48 h. Erythrocytes from three splenectomized sheep were infected in vitro with B. divergens; when parasitaemia reached 10%, the animals were inoculated with homologous parasitized erythrocytes. All sheep expressed hyperthermia with a peak between the 6th and the 9th day post-infection (p-i) and a transitory parasitaemia 10 days p-i. In vitro primary cultures were performed on two of these sheep, demonstrating the parasite persistence at very low parasitaemia in the infected animals. ABSTRACT The relationships between disease incidence and colony density and between leaf and shoot disease incidences for apple powdery mildew were investigated over four seasons in order to derive a simple relationship for predicting density using incidence. The Neyman type A distribution generally provided a good fit to the observed number of colonies per leaf and shoot, and provided a significantly better fit than the Poisson distribution, indicating a degree of aggregation of mildew colonies. In general, Taylor's power-law satisfactorily described the observed variance-mean relationship for colony density; however, Taylor's power-law broke down at very high levels of mean density. Incidence of leaf infection could be determined based on average number of colonies per leaf assuming a fixed variance-mean relationship and a Neyman type A distribution for colony density. Regression models using the complemen- tary log-log transformation of incidence also provided accurate predictions of leaf (or shoot) disease incidence from colonies per leaf (or per shoot). Similar accuracies of these incidence-density models suggested that variance-mean ratio of colony density was more or less constant over time. Unlike the case with colony density, the number of mildewed leaves per shoot generally had a random pattern, as indicated by the good fit of the binomial distribution. Thus, it was possible to estimate the leaf incidence of the youngest unrolled leaves on a shoot using the shoot incidence. It is argued that the leaf incidence-density relationships developed in the present study may be used in making practical disease management decisions. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Genetic relationships, mating crosses, and host specificity of Venturia inaequalis isolates from Malus spp. and of Spilocaea pyracanthae isolates from Pyracantha spp. were evaluated. Sequence analysis of the complete internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (ITS1-5.8S to ITS2) revealed a total similarity between these two putative species. ITS restriction fragment length polymorphism carried out with five restriction enzymes on a collection of 28 isolates confirmed a lack of diversity in this region between and within these two populations. Additional isolates from three related species (V. pirina, V. nashicola, and S. eriobotryae) were divided into two distinct monophyletic groups in a phylogenetic tree using ITS sequence comparison. These groups were related to their anamorph (i.e., Spilocaea or Fusicladium). When inoculated on their host of origin, fields isolates caused typical symptoms of scab disease, and a host specificity was demonstrated by cross pathogenicity of isolates from Malus x domestica and Pyracantha spp. Mating on dried leaves in vitro between one isolate of each putative species led to production of numerous perithecia. Ninety-six sporulating monoascosporic progenies were isolated from this cross. Based on these genetic and pathogenic data, we proposed that pathogens responsible for scab on Malus spp. and Pyracantha spp. are considered as two formae speciales belonging to V. inaequalis. 相似文献

Aqueous solutions of dichlorprop were irradiated under different conditions of pH, wavelength and oxygenation. The photochemical behaviour was found to be complex and many photoproducts were formed. However, at low concentrations the main photoproducts were 4-chloropyrocatechol, 2-chlorophenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol. Some other photoproducts were identified, namely 2-(4-chloro-2-hydroxyphenoxy)propanoic acid, 2-(3,5-dichloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid and 2,4-dichlorophenyl acetate. From comparison with results previously obtained with mecoprop [2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propanoic acid] it appears that the presence of a chlorine atom in position 2 on the ring strongly modifies the photochemical behaviour. 相似文献

Flagellar antigen specificity was studied for the speciesPseudomonas syringae, P. viridiflava andP. cichorii. After checking their motility, bacteria were reacted against six polyclonal antisera containing anti-O (LPS) and anti-H (flagellar) antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent staining. Two distinct flagellar serotypes (H1 and H2) were described. The distribution of H1 and H2 serotypes was then determined for a collection of 88 phytopathogenicPseudomonas strains. Serotype H1 was possessed byP. syringae pv.aptata (12 strains),P. s. pv.helianthi (2),P. s. pv.pisi (11), andP. s. pv.syringae (13). Serotype H2 was possessed byP. cichorii (2),P. s. pv.delphinii (1),P. s. pv.glycinea (4),P. s. pv.lacrymans (1),P. s. pv.mori (1),P. s. pv.morsprunorum (10),P. s. pv.persicae (1),P. s. pv.phaseolicola (8),P. s. pv.tabaci (10) andP. s. pv.tomato (1).P. viridiflava (5) revealed HI, H2 and untyped flagella. Besides their breeding value, swine are increasingly used as biomedical models. As reported in three international swine clusters of differentiation (CD) workshops and in the animal homologue section of the last workshop for the determination of human leukocyte differentiation antigens (HLDA 8), characterisation of leukocyte surface antigens by monoclonal antibodies and other molecular studies have determined the cell lineages and blood leukocyte subsets implicated in the immune response, including cell adhesion molecules involved in cell trafficking. This review focusses on the current state of knowledge of porcine leukocyte differentiation and major histocompatibility complex (SLA) molecules. Examples of porcine particularities such as the double-positive T lymphocytes with the phenotype CD(4+)CD8(low) and CD(4-)CD8(low) alphabeta T cell subsets and the persistence of SLA class II after T-lymphocyte activation are illustrated, as well as the shared characteristics of the Artiodactyla group, such as the high proportion of gammadelta TcR (T cell receptor) T cells in blood and other lymphoid tissues. Furthermore, discrepancies between swine and humans, such as CD16 expression on dendritic cells and CD11b (wCD11R1) tissue distribution are outlined. The rapidly growing information should facilitate manipulation of the swine immune system towards improving disease control, and open new avenues for biomedical research using the pig as a model. 相似文献

A better understanding of protective immune memory against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is needed in order to facilitate the development of safer vaccines based on selected components of the pathogen. For this purpose, cells collected from lymph nodes draining the lungs of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony biotype (MmmSC)-infected cattle were stimulated with the pathogen in vitro and evaluated concurrently for proliferation (CFSE based method), expression of activation, memory markers and cytokine production. Direct evidence is presented for a major contribution of CD4+ T cells to the vigorous proliferative and T1 biased cytokine recall responses observed in cattle that have recovered from infection but not in animals developing the acute form of the disease. Two different phenotypes of MmmSC-specific memory CD4 were observed based on CD62L expression and proliferative capacities. Furthermore, recall proliferation of B cells also occurred but was strictly dependent on the presence of CD4. The information provided in this study will facilitate the search for MmmSC antigens that have potential for the development of subunit vaccines against CBPP. 相似文献
