Yeasts and organic minerals are used in diets to improve health, productive performance and some carcass characteristics of ruminants and non-ruminants. Thirty-two lambs(Pelibuey×Katahdin; BW=(30.55±1.67) kg; n=8) were used in a 56-d feeding experiment to study the effects of different levels of live yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast), selenium(Se) and chromium(Cr) mixed(Se-Cr), and a mixture of yeast-Se-Cr on growth performance and carcass traits. Animals were stratified by body weight(BW) and randomly assigned to one of four treatments: 1) control group(0.0 g kg–1 yeast); 2) yeast(1.50 g kg–1 dry matter intake(DMI) d–1); 3) Se-Cr premix(1.5 mg kg–1 DMI d–1 for each mineral); and 4) yeast-Se-Cr mixture. There were no treatment effects on final BW; whereas lambs fed Se-Cr or yeast-Se-Cr had higher(P0.05) DMI than animals supplemented with only yeast. Average daily gain(ADG), gain:feed ratio, chop area, dorsal fat and carcass yield were similar(P0.05) among treatment groups. In conclusion, supplementation with yeast, Se-Cr mixed or yeast-Se-Cr did not improve ADG, final BW, back fat content and carcass yield of growing of Pelibuey×Katahdin lambs. Supplementation with Se-Cr and yeast-Se-Cr increased DMI, and approximately 250 g ADG animal–1 d–1 was produced with no negative effects on growth and health of the animals.  相似文献

In this work, we focus on the analysis of data for the ring width of two pine tree species: samples of six maritime pines (Pinus pinaster), grown in the north of Portugal, and one sample of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), grown in the south of Slovakia. A negative impact of solar activity (SA) was observed on the growth of these pine trees with particularly strong impact in the case of the maritime pines. The width of the annual rings was generally smaller in the years of maximum SA; furthermore, it was found that it is latewood width that is affected whereas earlywood width is not affected; as a corollary, the percentage of latewood also shows a significative negative correlation with SA.  相似文献

Tan spot, caused by the fungus Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (Ptr), is a disease that has become more prevalent and intense in wheat crops in Argentina in recent years. Failure to control the disease with strobilurin fungicides, which were once effective, has been observed in different zones where wheat is grown. However, whether or not true resistance is present in the pathogen population in the region is not scientifically confirmed. This study evaluated the sensitivity of numerous Ptr isolates to representative QoI fungicides used in Argentina through in vitro and in planta assays, as well as through molecular analysis. Eighty-two monosporic isolates obtained in different locations in the north and south of Buenos Aires province in 2014, 2016, and 2018 were tested to determine sensitivity to selected QoI fungicides in conidial germination and mycelial inhibition assays, as well as in molecular analysis. Conidial germination was not inhibited at 1 µg/ml of azoxystrobin, trifloxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin. On the other hand, mycelial growth was inhibited by 59%, 56%, and 86% at 100 µg/ml of azoxystrobin, trifloxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin, respectively. The molecular analysis detected the G143A mutation in the cytb gene of all the 82 Ptr isolates, but the F129L and G137R substitutions were not present. This study documents the G143A mutation conferring QoI resistance in Ptr in South America. The findings of this study are key for future decisions regarding use of fungicide and rotation in the region.  相似文献

Porcine parvovirus (PPV) is a widespread DNA virus that causes reproductive failure in swine. The aim of the present study was to investigate the presence of PPV in sera of nursery piglets (healthy n = 191 and wasting n = 132) and regularly vaccinated sows (with different parity rank [PR] n = 129), collected from different herds. Altogether, 452 animals were sampled in 27 herds owned by five companies. All sera were analyzed for the presence of PPV DNA by nested-PCR. The samples from sows were in addition tested for the presence of antibodies by Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI). PPV DNA was detected in healthy piglets (15.7%), wasting piglets (18.2%) and sows (17.8%). 25 herds had at least one positive sample and four companies had positive animals. The serology revealed that 84.7% of the sows had detectable antibodies and the fourth PR sows had the highest mean PPV antibody titers. Thirteen sows (19.1%) were found to be positive for DNA detection in the presence of high levels of antibody titers (> 512). This finding indicates that PPV DNA can be detected in different swine production categories irrespective of antibody titers.  相似文献

It is shown that potentially persistent transformation products can be formed from the herbicides bromoxynil (3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile) and ioxynil (3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile), and possible leaching to groundwater is discussed. A similar process to the formation of BAM (2,6-dichlorobenzamide) from the herbicide dichlobenil (2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile) can be anticipated as bromoxynil and ioxynil are analogues of dichlobenil and they are degraded by the enzymes nitrilase, nitrile hydratase and amidase. A biodegradation study using cultured Variovorax sp. DSM 11402, a species commonly found in soil, demonstrated that ioxynil and bromoxynil were fully transformed into their corresponding amides in 2-5 days. These amides were not further degraded within 18 days, and formation of other degradation products was not observed. These results are in agreement with biodegradation experiments with dichlobenil. In soil, dichlobenil is transformed into its only observed degradation product BAM, which is persistent and mobile, and has been found in 19% of 5000 samples of Danish groundwater. Variovorax sp. is known to degrade the non-halogenated analogue benzamide, suggesting that degradation of the three amides may be hindered by the halogenated substituents (meta-Br; meta-I; ortho-Cl). This hypothesis is supported by QSAR modelling of fundamental properties. Using a new optimised liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method, the sorption and desorption properties of bromoxynil and ioxynil were characterised in sandy topsoil at four concentration levels. The estimated sorption coefficient K(d) was 1.4 L kg(-1) for bromoxynil and 5.4 L kg(-1) for ioxynil, indicating weak to moderate sorption to topsoil. Desorption of the herbicides showed that they were strongly and irreversible bound to the soil (K(des) > K(d)). The amount of herbicide desorbed depended on the initial concentration level. At low levels, K(des) values were higher, indicating stronger binding than at higher levels. The isocratic LC-MS/MS method developed for simultaneous detection of bromoxynil, ioxynil and their main degradation products is described. Using negative electrospray ionisation (ESI-), the detection limits were 0.4-1.0 microg L(-1), with relative standard deviations of 4-10% (n = 10) using direct injection without clean-up steps. The standard curves showed linearity in the range 5-100 microg L(-1) with r(2) > 0.992.  相似文献

The phenotype of the hepatic inflammatory infiltrate and hepatic lymph nodes (HLN) was analysed in lambs primarily and challenge infected with Fasciola hepatica. Group 1 was primarily and challenge infected with two doses of 200 metacercariae (mc) each and was non-treated. Trickle infection was administered to five groups: group 2 was challenge infected and non-treated; group 3 was primarily infected and non-treated; group 4 was primarily infected and treated with triclabendazole (TCBZ) at 12 weeks postinfection (wpi); group 5 was treated at 4 wpi and challenge infected and group 6 was treated at 12 wpi and challenge infected. An uninfected group was used as the control. The distribution of T cell subpopulations (CD3, CD4 and CD8), and B cells (CD79alpha, IgM, IgG) was analysed. The hepatic inflammatory infiltrate was represented mainly by CD3 and CD4 T cells, and B cells (CD79alpha, IgG). These infiltrates were more severe (P < 0.05) in primarily (group 3) or challenge (groups 2, 5 and 6) trickle infected lambs than in the group single challenge infected (group 1). Cellular changes in HLN consisted in an increase of CD4 over CD8 T cells and an increase of B cells and IgG+ plasma cells, and they were more severe in primarily and challenge trickle infected groups than in the group infected with two larger doses of mc, although significant differences were not found with respect to all challenge trickle infected groups. The strong local cellular and humoral immune responses did not protect against subsequent infections, neither in non-treated lambs (group 2) nor in lambs treated with TCBZ at 4 wpi (group 5) or 12 wpi (group 6).  相似文献

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in swine. As PCV2 displays significant homology with PCV1 (a non-pathogenic virus) at the nucleotide and amino-acid level, a discriminative antigen is needed for specific serological diagnosis. The ORF2-encoded capsid protein from PCV2 was used to develop an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GST-fused capsid protein from PCV2 and GST alone (both expressed in recombinant baculovirus-infected cells) were used as antigens for serodiagnosis. The specificity of the ELISA for detection of PCV2 antibodies was demonstrated in sera from pigs experimentally infected with PCV1, PCV2 and other swine viruses. The semi-quantitative nature of the test was evaluated versus an immunoperoxidase monolayer assay (IPMA). The ELISA was performed on 322 sera from pigs in eight Brittany herds and compared with IPMA. The sensitivity (98.2%) and specificity (94.5%) of this test were considered suitable for individual serological detection. High PCV2 seroprevalence was found in sows and pigs at the end of the growth phase (18-19 weeks) in all eight herds. The seroprevalence in piglets (11-17 weeks) was statistically correlated with clinical symptoms of PMWS (93% in affected versus 54%, in non-affected farms). A cohort study performed in PMWS-free farms showed that 57% of piglets exhibited active seroconversion after 13 weeks, indicating that PCV2 infection occurred earlier in PMWS-affected piglets.  相似文献

As the number of images per study increases in the field of veterinary radiology, there is a growing need for computer‐assisted diagnosis techniques. The purpose of this study was to evaluate two machine learning statistical models for automatically identifying image regions that contain the canine hip joint on ventrodorsal pelvis radiographs. A training set of images (120 of the hip and 80 from other regions) was used to train a linear partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS‐DA) model and a nonlinear artificial neural network (ANN) model to classify hip images. Performance of the models was assessed using a separate test image set (36 containing hips and 20 from other areas). Partial least squares discriminant analysis model achieved a classification error, sensitivity, and specificity of 6.7%, 100%, and 89%, respectively. The corresponding values for the ANN model were 8.9%, 86%, and 100%. Findings indicated that statistical classification of veterinary images is feasible and has the potential for grouping and classifying images or image features, especially when a large number of well‐classified images are available for model training.  相似文献

The North American Animal Disease Spread Model is a stochastic, spatial, state-transition simulation model for the spread of highly contagious diseases of animals. It was developed with broad international support to assist policy development and decision making involving disease incursions. User-established parameters define model behavior in terms of disease progression; disease spread by animal-to-animal contact, contact with contaminated personnel or equipment, and airborne dissemination; and the implementation of control measures such as destruction and vaccination. Resources available to implement disease control strategies, as well as the direct costs associated with these strategies, are taken into consideration. The model records a wide variety of measures of the extent of simulated outbreaks and other characteristics. The graphical interface and output visualization features also make it a useful tool for training and preparedness exercises. This model is now being used to evaluate outbreak scenarios and potential control strategies for several economically important exotic animal diseases in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere.
