The chemical composition of date palm rachis wastes, which are widely available cellulosic biomass-based agricultural crops in Tunisia, were characterized to determine if they had the potential for use as a starting raw material to prepare cellulose derivatives. To accomplish this, several sodium cellulose carboxylmethylates (NaCMCs) were prepared and tested as sizing agents for coating yarn. The synthesis of NaCMC was conducted in n-butanol containing NaOH (40 %) as a solvent mixture and monochloroacetic acid (MAC) as the etherifying reagent. The NaCMC samples were characterized based on their degrees of substitution (DS) and polymerization (DP). The prepared NaCMC samples were then tested as sizing agents for cotton yarn in textile applications. Specifically, different NaCMC samples were used to prepare a coating bath, which was then applied to size a cotton yarn textile. The quality of the coated yarns was subsequently evaluated by determining three parameters, yarn hairiness, the load at break, and the elongation at break. The sizing performances of the NaCMCs prepared from date palm rachis wastes were then compared with those of commercial NaCMC. The values of hairiness, breaking load, and breaking elongation of some of the NaCMC-treated yarns were as high as those prepared using commercial additives as sizing agents. These findings indicate that the cellulose derivatives prepared in this study are good candidates for alternatives to currently available additives.  相似文献

Three new triterpene saponins, leonticins I (1), J (2) and L (3) were isolated from the tubers of Leontice smirnowii. On the basis of spectroscopic methods, including 2D NMR experiments (DEPT, gs-COSY, gs-HMQC, gs-HMBC and gs-HSQC-TOCSY), mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and chemical degradation, the structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-1 → 2)]-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-28-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-3β-hydroxy-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid (1), 3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl]-28-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-3β-hydroxy-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid (2) and 3-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)]-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 2)]-α-L-arabinopyranosyl]-28-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-3β-hydroxy-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid (3), respectively. The aglycone 3β-hydroxy-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid was observed for the first time in Leontice species.  相似文献

A 4.5-year-old Holstein-Friesian cow underwent surgery because of left abomasal displacement. Intra-operative palpation of the pyloric region revealed a phytobezoar. Following activation of granulocytes, L-selectin (CD62L) is generally shed from the cellular surface, whereas Mac-1 (CD11b/CD18) expression is well known to increase. However, a number of studies in bovines and humans show that the expression of L-selectin may increase as well. This urged us to examine the possible existence of both L-selectin and Mac-1 reservoirs in bovine neutrophil and eosinophil populations through the use of flow cytometry in combination with an optimized method for cell membrane permeabilization. Augmented L-selectin and Mac-1 expression was detected in both granulocyte populations upon saponin treatment. Confocal microscopic studies indicated that both molecules exhibit a different pattern of subcellular localization. Incubation with sialidase revealed the existence of hidden L-selectin epitopes at the cell surface, while no additional Mac-1 epitopes were exposed. Platelet-activating factor stimulation decreased surface and total expression of L-selectin to the same extent in both populations, but solely affected Mac-1 surface expression on eosinophils. Moreover, cytoskeletal actin filaments and microtubules were found to be involved in the regulation of Mac-1 surface expression on bovine neutrophils and eosinophils. In marked contrast, expression of L-selectin was minimally affected by cytoskeleton perturbing agents. The present study indicates that L-selectin and Mac-1 adhesion molecules reside in distinctly located reservoirs in bovine granulocytes and can be selectively mobilized upon in vitro stimulation.  相似文献

A new sensitive and selective method has been developed for the quantification of the total coenzyme Q9 (CoQ9) and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) concentration in vegetable oil samples. The coenzyme Q fraction is isolated by solid-phase extraction (SPE) on amino phase eluting with a mixture of heptane:ethyl ether. The organic solvent is evaporated under nitrogen, and the residue is dissolved in a mixture of acetonitrile:tetrahydrofuran and finally is analyzed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with a mass detector. The sensitivity of the method is based on the high efficient formation of the radical anions [M (-.)] of CoQ9 and CoQ10 by negative atmospheric pressure ionization. Interferences are minimized by using mass detection of the [M (-.)] ions ( m/ z = 797.5 for CoQ9 and m/ z = 862.5 for CoQ10) in selective reaction monitoring mode ( m/ z = 797.5 --> m/ z = 779.5 and m/ z = 862.5 --> m/ z = 847.5) using a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. The method was successfully applied to sunflower, soybean, and rapeseed oils, with a limit of quantification of 0.025 mg/kg for both compounds.  相似文献

A decline in public sector extension services in developing countries has led to an increasing emphasis on alternative extension approaches that are participatory, demand-driven, client-oriented, and farmer centered. One such approach is the volunteer farmer-trainer (VFT) approach, a form of farmer-to-farmer extension where VFTs host demonstration plots and share information on improved agricultural practices within their community. VFTs are trained by extension staff and they in turn train other farmers. A study was conducted to understand the rationale behind the decisions of smallholder farmers to volunteer their time and resources to train other farmers without pay and to continue volunteering. Data were gathered through focus group discussions and individual interviews involving 99 VFTs. Findings of the study showed that VFTs were motivated by a combination of personal and community interests that were influenced by religious beliefs, cultural norms, and social and economic incentives. Altruism, gaining knowledge and skills, and social benefits were the most frequently mentioned motivating factors for becoming VFTs.3 years after starting, the income earned from selling associated inputs and services was also a main motivating factor. There were no significant differences between motivating factors for men and women VFTs. The findings point to the fact that VFTs work effectively without being paid, but investments in human, social, and financial capital are crucial to keeping them motivated. These factors are key to ensuring the sustainability of farmer-to-farmer extension programs beyond the projects’ lifespan.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a novel feed additive on chicken intestinal colonization and carcass contamination by Campylobacterjejuni. The feed additive was composed of microencapsulated organic acids and essential oils (OA/EO). The feed additive tested was provided by Jefo Nutrition Inc., St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. Day-old birds were separated into two rooms and subdivided into two groups. Chicken were fed with OA/EO or not fed with OA/EO until they reached 35 d of age. At 14 d of age, chickens received an oral suspension of two well characterized C. jejuni strains, depending on the room they were housed in. The levels of C. jejuni were periodically monitored in the caecum and on the carcasses. C. jejuni colonization was further characterized by the use of high-resolution melt analysis of the C. jejuniflaA gene (HRM-flaA). The effect of the feed additive was strain-dependent. In room two, the feed additive had no effect on the caecal counts. In room one, at 35 d of age, caecal C. jejuni counts were higher with OA/EO, as opposed to carcasses counts which were lower in the treated group. The HRM-flaA analysis showed that an amplification profile was predominant in birds fed with OA/EO at 35 d of age in room one, suggesting the selection of a C. jejuni strain. In conclusion, the OA/EO seemed to be effective to reduce C. jejuni levels but this effect appeared strain dependent.  相似文献
