The sensitivity of caprine synovial membrane cells to the antiviral effects of natural and recombinant DNA-derived human interferons (HuIFN) was compared with that of human foreskin fibroblast (FS7), ovine choroid plexus, and bovine turbinate cells. Caprine cells were found to be more sensitive (P less than 0.01) to natural HuIFN-alpha than human, ovine, and bovine cells. The sensitivity of caprine cells to recombinant DNA-derived HuIFN-alpha was equivalent to that of ovine cells, but greater than human or bovine cells. The sensitivity of caprine cells to natural and recombinant DNA-derived HuIFN-beta was equivalent to human cells, but less than that of ovine cells.  相似文献

Observations made during endoscopic evaluation of the stomach, duodenum, and colon of 58 dogs and 17 cats with a history of regurgitation, vomiting, and/or diarrhea were compared with results of histologic examination of tissues obtained during the procedures. Endoscopic observations included normal mucosa, alternations in mucosal color and texture, and luminal masses. Although endoscopy alone is a useful technique for detecting alterations of the gastrointestinal mucosa, histologic assessment of tissues obtained is necessary to confirm either an inflammatory or a neoplastic process.  相似文献

A young cat with chronic large bowel diarrhea was found to have suppurative colitis. Treatment with sulfasalazine resulted in prompt clinical improvement, although histologic abnormalities persisted. A 10-year-old German Shepherd Dog with intermittent eructation, borborygmi, flatulence, abdominal bloating, and vomiting was found to have gastric volvulus. Gastric emptying of liquids (determined with a modified emptying-time technique) was normal. Circumcostal gastropexy vastly reduced clinical signs and resulted in weight gain.  相似文献

An 18-month-old, spayed female Australian terrier cross was presented with a 10-month history of chronic large bowel diarrhea. Ulceration and two proliferative masses in the rectum were seen on colonoscopy. Surgical resection was performed to remove the masses, and the dog recovered without complications related to surgery. Histopathology was consistent with the diagnosis of ganglioneuroma. The dog had no clinical signs of disease within three months of surgery and was completely normal 2.5 years after diagnosis. This is the first report providing follow-up and successful outcome of a ganglioneuroma in the gastrointestinal tract of a dog.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to produce an magnetic resonsnce (MR) image atlas of clinically relevant brain anatomy and to relate this neuroanatomy to clinical signs. The brain of a large mixed breed dog was imaged in transverse, sagittal, and dorsal planes using a 1.5 T MR unit and the following pulse sequences: Turbo (fast) spin echo (TSE) T2, T1, and T2- weighted spatial and chemical shift-encoded excitation sequence. Relevant neuroanatomic structures were identified using anatomic texts, sectioned cadaver heads, and previously published atlases. Major subdivisions of the brain were mapped and the neurologic signs of lesions in these divisions were described. TSE T2-weighted images were found to be the most useful for identifying clinically relevant neuroanatomy. Relating clinical signs to morphology as seen on MR will assist veterinarians to better understand clinically relevant neuroanatomy in MR images.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Sodium phosphate (NaP) is a low-volume, hyperosmolar laxative that is an effective bowel-cleansing agent in humans. HYPOTHESIS: NaP will be as safe and efficacious as polyethylene glycol (PEG) bowel preparation for colonoscopy in dogs. ANIMALS: Eight purpose-bred healthy dogs. METHODS: In phase I, standard (NaP and enemas; NaP(1)) and control preparations (PEG and enemas) were compared in a crossover design to determine the safety and efficacy of NaP. Serial clinical and serum analytical evaluations were used to determine the safety of NaP. In phase II, the efficacy of the standard NaP preparation was compared with 3 other NaP variations, which excluded enema or included bisacodyl, with or without enemas in a crossover design. An observer blinded to the bowel preparation assigned a score of 1-4 (1=clean colon; 4=unacceptable colon cleansing preventing adequate endoscopic evaluation) to each of 5 regions of the colon. RESULTS: The mean total colon cleansing score (TCS), defined as the sum of scores from each region, of the control (9.4) was less than NaP(1) (13.6) (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in regional or TCS for the remaining 4 NaP protocols. NaP(1) resulted in moderate, but clinically occult, hyperphosphatemia and hypocalcemia, which resolved within 24 hours. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Despite the safety and ease of administration of the NaP preparations, the NaP bowel-cleansing preparations used in this study cannot be recommended for use because of the inadequate quality of bowel preparation compared with the protocol using PEG-containing fluids.  相似文献
