A meta-analysis was performed with the aim to identify factors with a relevant influence on the expression of clinical postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) under experimental conditions. Data from 44 studies were included in the analysis. Several variables were studied: number of pigs in the experiment, intake of colostrum, serological status against porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), strain of PCV2 used for inoculation, the route and dose of inoculation, and use of potential triggering factors (such as co-infections, vaccinations, or immunomodulator products). Multiple correspondence analysis and log-linear regression methods were used to establish the relationships between the studied variables and the number of PCV2 infected pigs that developed PMWS. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, the most successful animal experiment aimed to develop PMWS should include: (1) colostrum-deprived pigs, (2) age of inoculation below 3 weeks, (3) high doses of PCV2 inoculum, (4) PCV2 strain from genotype 1, and (5) co-infection with another swine pathogen as a triggering factor.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the magnitude of evaporation loss from the agricultural water reservoirs (AWRs) for irrigation at a regional scale and to analyze its impact on water storage efficiency. To this end, we identified the extant AWRs for irrigation in the Segura River Basin (SRB) in southeastern Spain, and calculated the water loss from each AWR per month and year. In order to accomplish this, we determined the monthly and yearly values of the pan coefficient, Kp, taking into account the geometric dimensions (area and depth) of the AWRs and local climate conditions through a function of air vapour pressure deficit (VPD). AWR areas were identified by interpreting aerial images, while climate conditions were assessed using daily meteorological data obtained from 74 automated agro-meteorological stations located in irrigated areas. Regional evaporation losses were estimated using aggregation GIS techniques. A total of 14,145 AWRs covering 4901 ha were identified, which represents 0.26 and 1.81% of the total area of SRB and the irrigated land, respectively. Results indicated that annual water loss at a basin scale reaches 58.5 × 106 m3, which corresponds to 1.404 m of water depth over the flooded area and to 8.3% of irrigation water use in the basin. This quantity is higher than the industrial demand and similar to the environmental demand, and is equivalent to 27% of the domestic water use in a region with approximately two million inhabitants. The method used, based on annual Kp, appears the most straightforward to assess regional evaporative losses from AWRs, and can be extended to other regions and climates, provided that the VPD-dependent function that gives the pan coefficient is available.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine the effectiveness and profitability of the Mi-resistance gene in tomato in suppressing populations of Meloidogyne javanica in a plastic-house with a natural infestation of the nematode. Experiments were also conducted to test for virulence and durability of the resistance. Monika (Mi-gene resistant) and Durinta (susceptible) tomato cultivars were cropped for three consecutive seasons in non-fumigated or in soil fumigated with methyl bromide at 75 g m–2 and at a cost of 2.44 euros m–2. Nematode densities were determined at the beginning and end of each crop. Yield was assessed in eight plants per plot weekly for 6 weeks. The Pf/Pi values were 0.28 and 21.6 after three crops of resistant or susceptible cultivars, respectively. Growth of resistant as opposed to susceptible tomato cultivars in non-fumigated soil increased profits by 30,000 euros ha–1. The resistant Monika in non-fumigated soil yielded similarly (P > 0.05) to the susceptible Durinta in methyl bromide fumigated soil but the resistant tomato provided a benefit of 8800 euros ha–1 over the susceptible one because of the cost of fumigation. Selection for virulence did not occur, although the nematode population subjected to the resistant cultivar for three consecutive seasons produced four times more eggs than the population on the susceptible one. Such a difference was also shown when the resistant cultivar was subjected to high continuous inoculum pressure for 14 weeks. The Mi-resistance gene can be an effective and economic alternative to methyl bromide in plastic-houses infested with root-knot nematodes, but should be used in an integrated management context to preserve its durability and prevent the selection of virulent populations due to variability in isolate reproduction and environmental conditions.  相似文献

This work focuses on the performance of a primary facultative pond, in a full-scale waste stabilization pond system, located in a temperate climate region (average air temperature in winter, 7.7°C; spring and autumn, 14.0°C; and summer, 19.9°C) in Puerto Madryn city??Argentine Patagonia (42°45??S; 65°05??W). Experimental work was conducted for 43?months in seven sampling points. During the experimental time frame, the influent flow rate increased from 12,000 to 15,500?m3/day; the surface organic loading ranged from 55 to 68?kg BOD5/ha·day and the theoretical retention time decreased from 31 to 24?days. The results indicate that a primary facultative pond performing in this region, to keep predominant facultative conditions and acceptable filtered biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) removal, should be loaded with an organic loading rate of up to 60?kg BOD5/ha·day. The flow and organic loading increase affected the ammonium removal process, extending the period time in which ammonium removal was less than 50% and nitrate was not detectable; at first, this period occurred during winter strictly and then covered part of autumn and part of spring, too. Ammonium removal was clearly temperature dependent and directly related to chlorophyll a and nitrate concentrations (i.e. higher ammonia removals were reported under summer conditions when chlorophyll a and nitrate concentrations were higher), but was not linked with high pH values. The ammonium volatilization as a predominant removal process could be discarded, while ammonium nitrification?Cdenitrification and algal nitrogen uptake seems to be the dominant mechanisms.  相似文献

Aircraft measurements of solar flux in the cloudy tropical atmosphere reveal that solar absorption by clouds is anomalously large when compared to theoretical estimates. The ratio of cloud forcing at an altitude of 20 kilometers to that at the surface is 1.58 rather than 1.0, as predicted by models. These results were derived from a cloud radiation experiment in which identical instrumentation was deployed on coordinated stacked aircraft. These findings indicate a significant difference between measurements and theory and imply that the interaction between clouds and solar radiation is poorly understood.  相似文献

Escape incidents in coastal aquaculture lead to economic losses for farmers and may have indirect socio‐economic effects on local fisheries. In this study, the relationship of meagre, Argyrosomus regius (Asso), production in open‐sea cages and coastal small‐scale fisheries was analysed through captures of escapes, which are easily detected because this species is considered locally absent in native communities in Western Mediterranean regions. Scale reading showed that 100% of captured meagre were escapees. The existence of a direct relationship, in terms of biomass, between the development of meagre coastal aquaculture and the increase of captures of this species by local fisheries was demonstrated. The spatial distribution of meagre captures suggested that there is a local environmental and economic interaction between meagre aquaculture and fisheries through escapees. Monitoring the presence of locally absent species such as meagre within landings might help to assess the magnitude of escapes, the potential economic effects on local aquaculture and fishery industries, and the potential adverse ecological impacts on local ecosystems.  相似文献
