The effect of γ-irradiation on the physicochemical properties of cross-linked waxy maize resistant starches was examined. The cross-linked waxy maize starches contained resistant starch (RS) of 56.1 and 63.5%, respectively for 5 and 10% sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP)/sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) cross-linking, and the RS contents slightly decreased as the irradiation dose increased whereas the RS content in unmodified waxy maize starch increased with an increase in irradiation dose. For both native and cross-linked starches, the rapidly digestible starch (RDS) content increased and the slowly digestible starch (SDS) content decreased by the irradiation. The solubility of the native and cross-linked starches increased as the irradiation dose increased. The cross-linked starches did not swell in boiling water without showing pasting viscosity. However, the starches became swellable, forming pastes by irradiation, and the pasting viscosity gradually increased with an increase in irradiation dose. The crystallinity as determined by an X-ray diffraction analysis remained unchanged upon cross-linking and γ-irradiation. However, the gelatinization enthalpy of the cross-linked starches decreased in proportion with irradiation dose. The melting temperatures of cross-linked starches gradually decreased and the temperature range for melting increased with an increase in irradiation dose.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted to investigate rice — Echinochloa crus-galli and rice — Eleocharis kuroguwai competition under transplanted rice cultivation in four major rice production areas; Suwon, Daejeon, Iksan, and Naju in Korea. Rice yield data were used to predict rice yield as a function of plant densities of E. crus-galli and E. kuroguwai using a rectangular hyperbola and to determine economic threshold (ET) levels of the weeds. Both weed species significantly reduced number of tillers at early rice growth stage, resulting in significant reduction in number of spikes, and the other yield components such as number of grains, maturity and 1,000-grain weight at later growth stage. The weed competitivity represented by parameter ranged from 0.0145 to 0.0346 for E. crus-galli and from 0.0037 to 0.0187 for E. kuroguwai, indicating that the competition effect of E. crus-galli on rice yield was slightly greater than that of E. kuroguwai. The ET values of E. crus-galli were between 0.298 and 1.078 plants m−2, while those of E. kuroguwai were between 0.848 and 5.298 plants m−2, depending on weed competitivity and herbicide price. Therefore, our results can be used to support decision-making on herbicide application for E. crus-galli and E. kuroguwai management in transplanted rice cultivation.  相似文献

A one-step real-time PCR using one set of oligonucleotide primers and three probes was developed for differentiation of F4 (K88) variants (F4ab, F4ac, F4ad) of enterotoxigenic Escherichiacoli (ETEC) from diarrhoeic pigs. The limits of detection of F4ab, F4ac and F4ad in broth dilution were 10(6), 10(5) and 10(4)colony forming units (CFU)/mL, respectively. In faecal samples spiked with E.coli, the limits of detection of F4ab, F4ac and F4ad were 10(6), 10(6) and 10(4)CFU/g faeces, respectively, without enrichment and 10(3), 10(2) and 10(2)CFU/g faeces following enrichment. In 42 ETEC field isolates from pigs in Korea encoding the F4 gene, all were identified as the F4ac variant.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the protective ability of blackberry extract (BE) against oxidative stress in carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-treated rats. The results showed that treatment with BE attenuated lipid peroxidation that was increased by CCl(4) and also markedly recovered the activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR), that were decreased by CCl(4). BE also elevated the protein expression levels of NF-E2-related factor-2 (Nrf2), CuZnSOD, MnSOD, GPx-1/2, and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), but not that of catalase. Furthermore, the administration of BE significantly attenuated the levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) that were increased by CCl(4). Therefore, the present study suggests that BE possesses significant protective effects against in vivo oxidative stress.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the irradiation and modified atmosphere packaging effects on emulsion-type cooked pork sausage during storage for 4 weeks. CO(2) (100%), N(2) (100%), or 25% CO(2)/75% N(2) packaged sausage were irradiated at 0, 5, and 10 kGy, and residual nitrite, residual ascorbic acid, nitrosomyoglobin (NO-Mb), color values, and their correlation were observed. Irradiation significantly reduced the residual nitrite content and caused partial reduction of NO-Mb during storage. No difference was observed in ascorbic acid content by irradiation. Irradiation decreased the Hunter color a value of sausage. CO(2) or CO(2)/N(2) packaging were more effective for reducing residual nitrite and inhibiting the loss of the red color of sausage compared to N(2) packaging. Results indicated that the proper combination of irradiation and modified atmosphere packaging could reduce the residual nitrite in sausage with minimization of color change.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This study was aimed at assessing the toxicity of ethyl cinnamate and ethyl p-methoxycinnamate (EMC) identified in Kaempferia galangal L. (Zingiberaceae) rhizome and another 12 known compounds to third-instar larvae from laboratory-reared Culex pipiens pallens Forskal, Aedes aegypti L. and Ochlerotatus togoi Theobald and field-collected C. pipiens pallens (Jinhae colony). Results were compared with those for fenthion and temephos. RESULTS: Ethyl p-methoxycinnamate was the most toxic of the test compounds to larvae of the three mosquito species (LC(50) 12.3-20.7 mg L(-1)) but less toxic than either fenthion (0.0096-0.021 mg L(-1)) or temephos (0.0039-0.0079 mg L(-1)). Ethyl cinnamate and 3-carene were highly active against C. pipiens pallens larvae (24.1 and 21.6 mg L(-1)) but less toxic to A. aegypti and O. togoi larvae (ca 40 and 60 mg L(-1) respectively). The toxicity of these compounds to larvae from the Jinhae colony of C. pipiens pallens was almost the same as their toxicity to the laboratory-reared larvae, although the larvae from the colony exhibited low levels of resistance to fenthion (resistance ratio 9.1) and temephos (5.8).CONCLUSION: Kaempferia galanga rhizome-derived materials, particularly ethyl p-methoxycinnamate, merit further study as potential mosquito control agents for protection of humans and domestic animals from vector-borne diseases and nuisance caused by mosquitoes.  相似文献

We investigated the early growth and reproduction of hatchery-produced Pacific oysters Crassostrea gigas raised in a suspended long-line facility in Gamakman Bay, off the south coast of Korea. In October 2009, 4?months after transplanting, shell length had increased from 27.4 (July) to 82.5?mm (October), and tissue weight had increased from 0.2 to 5.2?g, indicating that the oyster had reached a marketable size in this month. Histological studies indicated rapid gonad maturation, and the oysters spawned during August and October, with a peak in September. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay used to quantify egg biomass revealed that the oysters produced a relatively small quantity of eggs, ranging from 5.1?% (August) to 8.8?% (September) of their body weight. The low total carbohydrate reserve in the tissue recorded in August and September coincided with intense energy utilization due to spawning, while the protein maximum in September matched peak egg mass. Our results suggest that hatchery-produced seed could supply a portion of the spat required in Gamakman Bay as well as in other oyster culture grounds of Korea, where the oyster industry is facing a shortage in the supply of natural spat.  相似文献

Probiotics have been defined as live microorganisms that are administered in an appropriate amount to provide health benefits to the host animal. In this study, we investigated the effect of L. salivarius DJ‐sa‐01 secreting the 3D8 single‐chain variable fragment (3D8 scFv) on the growth performance, cytokine secretion, and intestinal microbial flora of chickens. The experiment was divided into the control group and L. salivarius expressing 3D8 scFv experimental group. Chicken was fed 109 colony‐forming units (CFUs) of wild‐type (WT) L. salivarius or 3D8 scFv‐secreting L. salivarius daily for 35 days. The administration of L. salivarius expressing 3D8 scFv significantly improved the body weight of chickens compared with the administration of WT L. salivarius. A 16S ribosomal RNA metagenomic analysis showed that Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in both experimental groups. At the genus level, Lactobacillus was more abundant (22.82%) in the L. salivarius/3D8 group compared with the WT L. salivarius group. The serum levels of cytokines, such as IL‐8, TNF‐α, IL‐1β, IFN‐γ, IL‐4, and IGF1, were significantly reduced in the L. salivarius/3D8‐treated chickens. In summary, our results suggest that L. salivarius expressing 3D8 scFv could be considered a feed additive for improving the growth performance, immune function, and disease resistance of poultry.  相似文献
