The aim of this research was to evaluate the changes in β-endorphin, cortisol, total and free iodothyronines, and estradiol-17β levels of 10 unfit Quarter horses undergoing training under resting conditions during a 24-hour period. All animals that were sedentary since 3 months were divided into two groups comprising five animals each: group I, pre-trained for western riding (age: 8.8 ± 6.7 years; two stallions, one gelding, and two mares) and group II, not pre-trained for western riding (age: 9.4 ± 6.8 years; one stallion, three geldings, and one mare). Blood samples were collected from horses under resting conditions every 4 hours, from 5.30 am to 5.30 am of the next day. A two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures showed that the interaction between pre-training status and sampling time was not significant for hormone changes, but tended to be significant for fT3 changes (P < .06). The effects of pre-training status were considered significant for fT3 (P < .02). Time had significant effects on β-endorphin (P < .01), cortisol (P < .02), fT3 (P < .0001), and estradiol-17β (P < .0001) changes. Therefore, it seems to be extremely useful to take into account hormone circadian changes to ensure correct performance assessment and to monitor training in Quarter horses. 相似文献

In chloroplast, there were two pathways involved in the cyclic electron flow around photosystem 1 (PS 1). One was the NADH dehydrogenase (NDH)-dependent flow and the other was the ferredoxin quinone reductase-dependent flow. It was proposed that the NDH-dependent cyclic electron flow around PSI was related to the xanthophyll cycle-dependent non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) at chilling temperature under low irradiance (CL). The function of the chloroplastic cyclic electron flow around PS 1 was examined by comparing sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) control with its antimycin A (AA)-fed leaves upon exposure to CL stress. During CL stress, the maximum photochemical efficiency of PS2 (Fv/Fm) decreased markedly in both controls and AA-fed leaves, and P700+ was also lower in AA-fed leaves than in controls. These results implied that cyclic electron flow around PS 1 functioned to protect the photosynthetic apparatus from CL stress. Under such stress, NPQ and PS2-driven electron transport rate were different between AA-fed leaves and controls. The lower NPQ in AA-fed leaves might be related to an inefficient proton gradient across thylakoid membranes (ApH) because of inhibiting cyclic electron flow around PS 1 under CL stress. 相似文献

Phaseolin, the major globulin seed storage protein of common bean,Phaseolus vulgaris L., accounts for up to 50% of the total seed protein. The rapid accumulation of phaseolin in the maturing seeds begins about 14 days after flowering and continues for some 12–14 days longer. However, the amount and rate of phaseolin accumulation, related to variation in onset, length, termination, and rate of synthesis, have been shown to vary between genotypes.Only three phaseolin electrophoretic types, designated T, S, and C after the cultivars Tendergreen, Sanilac, and Contender, respectively, have been identified among over 100 cultivated accessions. The narrow ranges of molecular weights and isoelectric points of the 14 protein polypeptides of phaseolin, as well as the homology observed from peptide mapping, suggest that the phaseolin polypeptides are similar proteins. Based on the results of crosses among cultivars having the three electrophoretic patterns, the genes controlling the polypeptides of each of the phaseolin types appear to be tightly linked, inherited in a block and the alleles are codominant.Substantial variation in phaseolin content, based on estimations using rocket immunoelectrophoresis, has been found among bean lines. Although most segregating populations show continuous distributions and quantitative inheritance, some inbred backcross lines having enhanced phaseolin accumulation appear to carry a few genes with major effects.
