Within-field soil variability has often been reported in Japanese paddy fields. In one of such fields, we examined the relationships of spatial variations among different forms of soil nutrients and their direct influence on rice growth. Samples of surface soils collected from 100 plots (5 x 10 m) in the field were analyzed for the contents of N, P, and K as well as for the total C and clay contents. The values of the coefficient of variation (CV) for the soil properties were relatively high, ranging from 7% (total K) to 33% (inorganic N). More than 60% of the variation was spatially dependent, with ranges of less than 30 m for the contents of inorganic N and clay, 30-40 m for the contents of N (mineralizable and total), P (water-soluble, available, and total), and total C, and more than 60 m for the content of K (water-soluble, exchangeable, and nonexchangeable). These properties were grouped into two types; those significantly correlated either with the total C content (contents of mineralizable N, total N, all P forms, water-soluble K, exchangeable K, and 0.01 M HCl-extractable nonexchangeable K) or with the clay content (contents of fixed Nand NaBPh4-extractable nonexchangeable K). In a pot experiment in which rice plants were grown in soil from each plot for 50 d, the dry matter weight of shoots exhibited a large variation (CV 12%) and increased significantly with the increase of the level of the components related to the total C content, especially the content of mineralizable N. Significantly positive correlations were also found between the contents of N, P, and K in shoots and the corresponding soil nutrients occurring in a moderately labile form. These soil-plant relationships suggest that site-specific application of organic fertilizers for altering the level of the components related to the total C content in the topsoil could be effective to homogenize rice growth in the paddy field examined.  相似文献

Cesium-137 (137Cs) is strongly adsorbed on clay minerals, especially on illite. The adsorption of Cs+ on reference clay minerals, however, has not been fully investigated in relation to the presence of illite. The objective of this study was to clarify the effect of impurities (i.e., illite and vermiculite), present in reference smectite group minerals and kaolin minerals, on the retention of Cs+. The clay mineralogy of the reference minerals was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The radiocesium interception potential (RIP) was measured as an index of the Cs+ retention ability of clays. The content of illite in clay was represented by the total potassium (K) content given that illite is a major source of K in the clay fraction. The content of vermiculite in clay was represented by the Cs fixation capacity induced by Cs saturation followed by heating of samples at 110°C. Metabentonite and beidellite gave extremely high RIP values compared with other smectite group minerals, although a peak for illite (at 1.0 nm) was not observed in XRD analysis. The reference smectite and kaolin minerals showed a range of RIP values, even though their RIP values are theoretically zero. The RIP values had a significant positive correlation with the total K content of all the reference clay minerals (rs = 0.621*). This indicated that the retention ability for 137Cs depended more on the content of illite, as impurity, rather than the type of bulk mineral. Hence, the contribution of illite to the magnitude of the RIP was elucidated by the combination of measurement of total K content and XRD analysis.  相似文献

An experiment was performed in a low-density olive orchard (69 trees ha−1) to study the recovery from water stress of olive trees under different irrigation managements. The effect of water stress on oil quality was also examined. The trees were subjected to one of four irrigation treatments: rain-fed conditions, irrigation with either 100% or 125% of the crop evapotranspiration (ETc) level, or a deficit treatment in which only 60 mm of water were provided (at different times depending on the weather and phenological stage of the crop). The irrigation water in the deficit treatment was some 43% of the water applied in the 125% treatment. Plant water relations were determined periodically by measuring the water potential of covered leaves and the stomatal conductance at midday. The trees in the water deficit and rain-fed treatments rapidly recovered from water stress after receiving irrigation water or autumn rainwater, respectively, reaching the condition of the fully irrigated trees. However, stomatal conductance took longer to recover. Recovery at mid-summer in the deficit treatment was related to the amount of water in the soil; in autumn, however, this relationship was not so clear in rain-fed trees. The effect on oil quality was recorded in terms of the total concentration of phenolic compounds (TP). This was strongly related to the water stress integral, suggesting that the effect of irrigation on this variable occurs year-round and not just during the oil accumulation phase. Thus, even with low doses of water it should be possible to significantly reduce the TP concentration. Since recovery from water stress is rapid when irrigation is concentrated in the second half of summer, such an irrigation regimen might allow efficient use of the limited amounts of water available in central Spain.  相似文献

The recent economic, technological, and social shocks have led to a period of high economic uncertainty. The term “economic resilience” has been used to describe how regional clusters deal with and adapt to various shocks. This paper aims to analyze the elements that influence the resilience trajectory of a cluster. We conduct qualitative and exploratory research on the centennial Wine Cluster in Serra Gaúcha, Brazil, using data sources, interviews, and documents. To this end, we first identify seven elements that influence cluster resilience from the literature review. Subsequently, through an empirical case study, we verify whether these elements could represent the resilience of clusters. The results show that these seven elements are integrable and represent dimensions that explain the resilience of the cluster analyzed. Moreover, the findings highlight that resilience and resistance to crises are the historical results of improvements and the development of new routines for clustered companies. This study contributes to the cluster resilience literature and presents elements explaining how regions can adapt to and deal with shocks.  相似文献

Yellow tang, Zebrasoma flavescens, are one of the most heavily traded marine aquarium fish species, with nearly 400,000 individuals collected annually from Hawaii's reefs. Despite recent success culturing this species, significant challenges in the rearing processes remain to be overcome before commercialization is feasible. This study compared two feeding regimens, an original diet treatment, which was initially used to successfully culture yellow tang, and a revised diet, which differed in the timing of the introduction of feed items and weaning periods. Both diet regimens consisted of Parvocalanus crassirostris nauplii, enriched Brachionus rotundiformis rotifers, and Artemia nauplii, followed by a transition to dry and frozen feed items. The revised feeding regimen aimed to considerably reduce the amount of copepods and rotifers needed in the rearing process. Eggs were stocked at 40/L into replicate (n = 3) 200‐L tanks for the feeding regimen trial. A follow‐up rearing study, in which eggs were stocked at 19/L in a single 1000‐L tank, tested the revised feeding method at pilot scale. Fish reared on the revised feeding regimen were observed to grow faster in body length and body depth after 2 wk in culture and transitioned more quickly to juveniles as 41% had completed their transition to juvenile coloration by 70 d after hatch. None of the fish reared under the original feeding regimen attained full juvenile coloration during the study period. Survival was not significantly different between treatments and was 0.13% ± 0.13 and 0.29% ± 0.17 in the original and revised feeding regimens, respectively. In the pilot‐scale study, growth was comparable to that of both treatments in the 200‐L scale trial, but survival was much better at 1.9%. This study successfully shortened the copepod and rotifer feeding periods for yellow tang, while not jeopardizing growth or survival. This outcome enhances the commercialization potential for this and likely other Acanthuridae species.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   A microscopic bubble generating system (MBGS) has been developed to control dissolved oxygen (DO) levels suitable for fish farming. The MBGS has been tested to confirm its capability in net pens. Water conditions in a fish farm were monitored every two hours from June to October 2004 by setting an online vertical profiling system (OVPS) close to the net pen. DO in the net pen water decreased to physiologically stressful levels for the fish during the night (4.84–5.51 mg/L), while the DO was kept in saturated conditions during the day, due to oxygen supply from phytoplankton. The MBGS was operated from the evening to the morning of the next day for 16 h, to successfully create DO-saturated conditions in the net pen water at night. By using microscopic bubbles during the warm seasons, DO levels in the net pen water could be improved to a level suitable for fish farming. However, the low DO levels (<5.0 mg/L) of the bottom water occasionally extended to the net pen layers, despite the supply of microscopic bubbles to the water. To maintain the DO of the net pen water at levels suitable for fish farming, DO supply to the net pen water and the bottom water needs to be increased, and the organically enriched sediment just below the net pens needs to be treated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   During the fermentation of mackerel to narezushi , the concentration of peptides required to inhibit 50% of the ACE activity in the assay media (IC50), as an index of the angiotensin  I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity, was remarkably decreased with a rapid increase in peptide contents. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) decreased between 2 and 4 h after the single oral administration of greater than 10 mg peptide/kg narezushi extract, and recovered to the initial level by 8 h thereafter. The SBP decreased at seven successive daily doses of 10 mg/kg of narezushi extract and then recovered to the initial level 5 days after stopping a total of 10 daily administrations. The extract was administered to five-week-old SHR rats for 70 days and SBP decreased 21 days after starting and continued for 28 days after the end of administration. The peptide-rich fraction from narezushi extract had a powerful antihypertensive effect, whereas the other fraction had a similar, but weak effect.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   For bioremediation of organically enriched sediment deposited below fish farms, the extremely high potential for population growth of a deposit-feeding polychaete, Capitella sp. I, in the organically enriched sediment, and the effect on decomposition of organic matter in the sediment, were examined. A mass-culturing technique was conducted for this species. Bioremediation experiments were conducted on the organically enriched sediment in a fish farm in Kusuura Bay, Japan in 2003–2006. Approximately 1.7 million individuals of the worms were placed on the sediment below one net pen in December 2003, 9.3 million individuals in November 2004, and 2.2 million individuals in November 2005. After the worms were spread on the sediment, they rapidly increased in number and reached the highest densities of approximately 134 000 inds/m2 in February 2004, 527 000 inds/m2 in March 2005 and 103 000 inds/m2 in January 2006. In the process of rapid population growth, the decomposition of the organic matter of the sediment was enhanced markedly. Our results demonstrate that the promotion of population growth by spreading cultured colonies of Capitella can enhance the decomposition rate of organic matter markedly in organically enriched sediment below fish farms. This method is promising for minimization of the negative effects of fish farms.  相似文献
