This article presents the results of a long-term field experiment at Raki?an (Eastern Slovenia). Between 1993 and 2010, the temperature increased at a rate of 0.0288°C a?1, while average annual precipitation did not change, but showed great variation from year to year. In years with a higher average annual temperature, higher crop yields were achieved. Higher amounts of precipitation had a positive impact on yield at higher mineral nitrogen (N) rates, but a negative impact on yield in treatments with no mineral N. In systems with farmyard manure (FYM) and straw incorporation, maize yields increased in accordance with the increase in mineral N. Winter wheat yields increased with increasing mineral N to the N1 mineral N application rate with FYM application, and N2 with straw incorporation. Yields of winter barley increased in accordance with increasing mineral N until the highest N application rate (N3) with FYM application, and until N2 with straw incorporation. With regard to environmental compliance requirements for N and C balances and the crop yields, in FYM the most appropriate rate of fertilization is N1, and with straw incorporation the most appropriate rate is N1 to N2.  相似文献

Purpose

The toxicity of 36 dredged sediments from the Czech Republic was investigated using a large battery of bioassays. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of ecotoxicity testing in general and of individual bioassays more specific and to investigate how the results of bioassays are determined by the physicochemical properties of sediment samples and/or sediment contamination.

Material and methods

In 2008 and 2010, 36 sediment samples were collected from rivers and ponds and from sediment heaps in different parts of the Czech Republic. Both their physicochemical properties and their levels of contamination with POPs and heavy metals were analyzed. The ecotoxicities of the sediments were evaluated using the four bioassays from the new Czech directive 257/2009 Coll. concerning the application of dredged sediments on agricultural land (Enchytraeus crypticus reproduction, Folsomia candida reproduction, Lactuca sativa root elongation, and potential ammonium oxidation). The results of the four directive bioassays were compared with the results of other soil bioassays (Caenorhabditis elegans mortality, Eisenia fetida avoidance and reproduction) and eluate bioassays (Daphnia magna immobilization, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata growth inhibition test, and Vibrio fischeri luminescence).

Results and discussion

We demonstrate that the battery suggested in Czech directive 257/2009 Coll. is highly effective in identifying toxic samples; these bioassays clearly revealing different types of toxicity and different exposure routes. Shorter alternative bioassays may be added especially when fast toxicity identification is needed. Eluate bioassays identified samples potentially hazardous to aquatic ecosystems. Their inclusion into the assessment scheme should be considered if the goal of assessment is also the protection of aquatic ecosystems. The results of our multivariate analysis show that specific physicochemical properties and contamination may affect bioassay responses. C. elegans was the most sensitive bioassay to physicochemical properties and also to organic contamination, while eluate bioassays were sensitive to heavy metal pollution.

Conclusions

Most effects detected by the bioassays could not be explained by the levels of toxicants measured or by the natural characteristics of sediments. Our results show that bioassays are irreplaceable in dredged sediment risk assessment because they complement information provided by chemical analyses.  相似文献

This study investigated the impact of small rodents on young trees during three growing seasons (2018–2020) in the Czech Republic. Tree damage by small rodents, the quantity and quality of herbaceous plant biomass and the species composition of small mammals were monitored at two sites in European beech forest plantations. The number of trees damaged during three growing seasons correlated positively with fibre content and negatively with nitrogen content in herbaceous plant biomass. The importance of winter precipitation is reflected in the positive correlation with nitrogen content in herbaceous plant biomass. The observed tree-gnawing damage correlated positively with the abundance of one rodent species only—the bank vole. The highest damage occurred after the concurrence of a dry winter and a higher number of voles. Given current climate variability, this situation could become more common in the future. Gnawing may be a limiting factor for the successful restoration of trees with thin bark—in our case, European beech. In addition, the proportion of this woody species should be increased to achieve a more stable and closer composition in the Czech Republic.

In 2002, it was discovered that several Cika cattle in the mountain areas of Slovenia had escaped the official policy of cross‐breeding. Here, we report a genetic characterization to assess their status as autochthonous breed. We compared genotypes for 14 microsatellite markers in 150 Cika cattle individuals with data from 16 Central European cattle breeds. We show that Cika cattle are genetically as diverse as other Eastern Alpine breeds, are more diverse than Austrian Simmental but less than the Balkan Busha cattle. STRUCTURE analysis showed Pinzgauer admixture in several individuals but also indicated a unique genetic identity for Cika. This analysis also allowed a selection of the most genetically pure Cika individuals as assessed by the panel of microsatellites. These original Cika cattle form an Eastern Alpine breed cluster together with Pinzgauer and Pustertaler cattle. Cika cattle should be considered as an authentic and valuable genetic resource, which offers clear opportunities for sustainable agriculture and landscape conservation in marginal and mountain areas.  相似文献

Little is known about the natural occurrence and genetic variability of nepovirus large satellite RNA (satRNA). This study screened 71 Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) isolates mainly from Slovenia, but also from other countries in Europe and the USA, for the presence of satRNA, using a newly developed RT‐PCR assay. GFLV satRNA (satGFLV) was detected in 72% of naturally GFLV‐infected grapevines analysed, which is the highest frequency of occurrence of satGFLV reported to date. From 39 naturally GFLV‐infected grapevines, 122 satGFLV clones were sequenced and compared to publicly available sequences of satGFLVs and the closely related satRNAs from Arabis mosaic virus (satArMVs). Phylogenetic analyses of these satRNAs revealed that their evolution was driven by substitutions, insertions, deletions, recombinations and reassortments between closely related helper viruses. Phylogenetic relationships of the satGFLVs and satArMVs show their separate and subsequent common evolution. Furthermore, the satGFLVs varied in size and showed higher variability at the amino acid level than at the nucleotide level, just as the 2AHP gene of their helper virus. This study shows that satGFLVs are also similar to their helper virus with respect to their quasispecies nature and their transmission route through anthropogenic exchange of propagation material.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship between environmental variables and the occurrence of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) spawning over a year, in order to enable the timing and strength of high spawning activity to be predicted. Biological sampling of anchovy was conducted on the fishing grounds of the eastern Adriatic (the northernmost semi‐enclosed basin in the Mediterranean) on a monthly basis from January 1999 to December 2010, while data on environmental parameters were taken from in situ measurements at the most representative and best surveyed eastern Adriatic hydrographic station and from I‐COADS monthly surface fields. Anchovy spawning seasonality was defined by monthly changes of the maturity stages and the gonadosomatic index. Fluctuations of the gonadosomatic index revealed that spawning begins in March and lasts until September, with reproductive activity peaking from April to July. A significant correlation was found between the gonadosomatic index and upper layer salinity in the two preceding months, while the lagged wind‐mixing index and surface temperature are barely correlated to the gonadosomatic index. An enhanced input of nutrient‐rich freshwater of river origin, which reduces upper layer salinity and enhances primary production up to 2 months before anchovy spawning, seems to be correlated with the anchovy fertility, especially for a late spawning maximum (in July).  相似文献

Gluten-free bread often has low nutritive value, high glycemic index (GI) and short shelf-life. The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of sourdough addition on GI, quality parameters and firming kinetics of gluten-free bread produced by partially baked frozen technology. Sourdough was fermented with a commercial starter of Lactobacillus fermentum and added to bread batter at four levels (7.5; 15; 22.5 or 30%). We determined biochemical characteristics of the sourdough and bread chemical composition, glycemic index in vivo, physical properties and firming kinetics after final rebaking. All breads were enriched with inulin and were high in fiber (>6 g/100 g). Control bread that was prepared without sourdough had medium GI (68). Sourdough addition decreased bread GI. However, only breads with 15 and 22.5% of sourdough had low GI. Moreover, addition of 15 and 22.5% of sourdough had positively affected the quality parameters of partially baked frozen bread: specific volume increased, crumb firmness decreased and firming was delayed. In conclusion, the combined application of sourdough and partially baked frozen technology can decrease glycemic index, improve quality and shelf-life of gluten-free bread. Such breads can be recommended as a part of well balanced gluten-free diet.  相似文献

The impact of ash dieback caused by Hymenoscyphus fraxineus on 17 provenances of Fraxinus excelsior and one provenance of Fraxinus angustifolia was studied in an extensive field trial established in the Czech Republic prior to the H. fraxineus invasion in 1999. A difference in the level of resistance to ash dieback between the species was found: F. angustifolia was significantly less affected by the disease than F. excelsior. Moreover, particular provenances of F. excelsior showed important differences in the level of resistance to H. fraxineus. A relationship between the impact of ash dieback and altitude was also discovered – the provenances from altitudes above 600 m a.s.l. were less affected by the pathogen than were the provenances from lower areas. No difference in the impact of the disease among provenances of F. excelsior from different ecotopes (ravine, calcareous ravine and alluvial) was found. Substantial among‐tree variability in resistance to H. fraxineus was observed throughout the trial – promising genotypes (with crown defoliation up to 5%) were identified in all 18 tested provenances. In regard to this finding, it appears that the main source of resistance to the pathogen is probably at the individual genotype level in the trial. A secondary but massive attack by Hylesinus fraxini was identified in the trees that had been greatly damaged by ash dieback, and the beetle caused their health to deteriorate significantly. A significant negative effect of the presence of collar necroses caused by H. fraxineus and browse damage was also identified.  相似文献

The growth rate of Hymenoscyphus fraxineus was evaluated on five different media under laboratory conditions. Statistically significant differences were found among them, where H. fraxineus demonstrated the highest growth rate on ADA medium (a newly designed nutritive medium). The aim of this study was to fabricate a new kind of hybrid fabric composites with the cross-linked electrospun poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) composite nanofibres. The experiments were performed with the 10 wt.% PVB/ethanol solution for electrospinning where the modified silica nanoparticles (mSiO2), the oxidised single-walled carbon nanotubes (o-SWCNT) and the o-SWCNT/mSiO2 hybrid nanoparticles were added to the solution. The electrospun fibres were crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GA) afterwards in order to reinforce the composite structure by bonding to the p-aramid fabrics. The chemical and thermo-mechanical properties of the hybrid fabric composites were evaluated. The greatest improvement in thermo-mechanical properties was achieved by the sample which contained the cross-linked PVB fibres with the o-SWCNT/mSiO2 hybrid nanoparticles.  相似文献
