Many lakes in the Adirondack Mountains, New York, have acidified over the past century due to acidic atmospheric deposition. More recently, most monitored lakes have shown signs of chemical recovery (increase in acid neutralizing capacity) as sulfur deposition levels have declined in response to the Clean Air Act and other emissions control legislation. We used measured and modeled trends in past lakewater acidification and projections of future recovery from acidification to extrapolate results from judgment samples of intensively studied lakes to the population of acid-sensitive Adirondack lakes. Simulations were developed for 70 watersheds using the Model of Acidification of Groundwater in Catchments (MAGIC) to classify lakes according to their sensitivity to change in atmospheric S and N deposition. MAGIC simulations suggested that the modeled Adirondack Long-Term Monitoring Project (ALTM) and Adirondack Effects Assessment Project (AEAP) lakes were largely among the lakes in the population that had acidified most between 1850 and 1990. Most of the modeled ALTM/AEAP lakes were within the top 36% of acid sensitivity, based on model projections of past acidification and future chemical recovery, compared with the 1,829 Adirondack lakes in EPA’s Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) statistical frame. Results of this research will allow fuller utilization of data from on-going chemical and biological monitoring and process-level studies by providing a basis for regionalization of findings and developing/refining relationships among watershed characteristics, chemical change, and biological responses to changing levels of acidic deposition.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of iron (Fe) chlorosis on the mineral composition of lemon tree leaves cultivated in calcareous soil in the region of Murcia, Spain. A Fe‐polyflavonoid was employed as fertilizer to control Fe deficiency. The evolution of the leaf content in Fe, potassium (K), sodium (Na), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) was monitored during all the sampling cycle. A high correspondence between total Fe and chlorophyll content could be appreciated. A multivariance analysis was performed with the data obtained, showing that Fe was correlated with P, Mn, and K.  相似文献

Prompt neutron decay constant is a key parameter in neutron action. Due to the real-time measurement demand for prompt neutron decay constant, a measurement method for prompt neutron decay constant is developed based on 252Cf Source and neutron pulse frequency spectrum measurement system. Triggered and initiated by 252Cf random neutron source, the pulse from detector is acquired and real-time converted to multi-channel data up to 1 GHz sample rate. The prompt decay constant can be acquired by utilize least squares of single exponential fitting to prompt decay curve based on prompt decay spectrum. The experimental result shows that prompt decay constant is 1.033μs-1 and the proposed method is a novel method for real-time measurement of prompt neutron decay constant.  相似文献

A protocol based on the use of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is proposed for the removal of allergenic eugenol from rose essential oil without loss of the organoleptic quality and with a good conservation of the chemical composition. For the first time, an enzyme-based strategy is proposed for essential oils treatment and opens new opportunities in the detoxification of natural extracts used in perfumery and cosmetics. Our results on eugenol in rose essential oil constitute a first step toward the development of efficient and mild processes for the removal of more toxic compounds of natural extracts.  相似文献

Infections with Plasmodium falciparum during pregnancy lead to the accumulation of parasitized red blood cells (infected erythrocytes, IEs) in the placenta. IEs of P. falciparum isolates that infect the human placenta were found to bind immunoglobulin G (IgG). A strain of P. falciparum cloned for IgG binding adhered massively to placental syncytiotrophoblasts in a pattern similar to that of natural infections. Adherence was inhibited by IgG-binding proteins, but not by glycosaminoglycans or enzymatic digestion of chondroitin sulfate A or hyaluronic acid. Normal, nonimmune IgG that is bound to a duffy binding-like domain beta of the P. falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PfEMP1) might at the IE surface act as a bridge to neonatal Fc receptors of the placenta.  相似文献

To on line detect, store and process nuclear signals with multiple forms and multiple frequencies, a compatible processing and analyzing system for nuclear signals based on ultrahigh speed data acquisition card was constructed. When the source signal is at pulse form, the system records signal with the mode of time digital converting. When source signal is at continuous form, the system records signal with the mode of analog digital converting. The processing procedures and algorithms were designed for various signal forms. Fusarium head blight (FHB) is an important disease which has been causing damage to wheat and barley crops in western Canada. Because crop residues are an important source of inoculum, it is important to know the ability of Fusarium spp. to colonize and survive in different residue types, and how their populations might be affected by agronomic practices. Sampling of residue types on producers’ fields for quantification of Fusarium and other fungi was conducted in 2000–2001 in eastern Saskatchewan. Fusarium spp. were isolated from most fields, whereas their mean percentage isolation (MPI) was over 50% for cereal and pulse residues, and under 30% for oilseed residues. The most common Fusarium, F. avenaceum, had a higher MPI in pulse and flax (45–48%) than in cereal or canola (10–22%) residues. This was followed by F. equiseti, F. acuminatum, F. graminearum, F. culmorum and F. poae which were isolated from all, or most, residue types. Factors affecting Fusarium abundance in residues included the current crop, cropping history, and tillage system. In cereal residues, the MPI of F. avenaceum was higher when the current crop was another cereal (24%) versus a noncereal (4–8%). When the current crop was another cereal, the lowest MPI of F. avenaceum and F. culmorum occurred when the field had been in summerfallow (SF) two years previous (F. avenaceum: 17% for SF, 28% for a crop; F. culmorum: 1% for SF, 4% for a crop); in contrast, F. equiseti and Cochliobolus sativus were most common in residues of cereal crops preceded by SF (F. equiseti: 16% for SF, 10% for a crop; C. sativus: 22% for SF, 13% for a crop). The MPI of F. graminearum was higher when the crop two years previous was an oilseed (7%) versus a cereal (4%). In regards to tillage effects, when the current crop was a cereal, the MPI of F. avenaceum was higher under minimum (MT) and zero tillage (ZT) (22–37%) than conventional tillage (CT) (15%), that of F. graminearum was lowest under ZT (3% for ZT, 7–11% for CT-MT), whereas that of C. sativus was highest under CT (27% for CT, 6–11% for MT-ZT). Under ZT, previous glyphosate applications were correlated positively with F. avenaceum and negatively with F. equiseti and C. sativus. These observations generally agreed with results from previous FHB and root rot studies of wheat and barley in the same region. Percentage isolation of F. avenaceum from noncereal and of F. graminearum from cereal residues were positively correlated with FHB severity and percentage Fusarium-damaged kernels of barley and wheat caused by the same fungi.  相似文献

We experimentally determined the adsorption characteristics of natural, freshly precipitated Al(OH)3 for SO4 and PO4. The fresh Al precipitate occurred in stream sediment of Jachymov Stream (Czech Republic). The Al-rich sediment strongly adsorbed added PO4 prior to acidification experiment; this sorbed PO4 was released only after substantial dissolution of the sediment, at pH?<?3.67. Sorption of P by Al(OH)3 appears to be an important control on dissolved PO4 concentration in surface waters, unless there is a large excess of PO4. Acidification of the sediment-solution system caused protonation of the sediment surface, thereby increasing the adsorption capacity for SO4. Maximum SO4 adsorption occurred at pH 4.2, below which dissolution of the sediment offset the increasing anion adsorption capacity, and formation of AISO4 + inhibited the increasing SO4 adsorption capacity. This research demonstrates that there are important pH thresholds for anion adsorption in freshwaters below which dissolution of the Al(OH)3 substrate reduces total capacity for anion adsorption. In freshwaters, with sufficient concentrations of suspended Al(OH)3, or in Al(OH)3-rich sediment, PO4 mobility will be severely restricted. Suspended Al(OH)3 in acidified surface waters cannot strongly influence SO4 concentrations because of the considerably higher total SO4 concentrations compared to the available surface area.  相似文献

为进一步证明亚麻种间杂交种的真实性,对前人开发的14对SSR引物进行了再次筛选,对栽培种亚麻与多年生宿根型野生亚麻的种间杂交种和亲本之间的亲子关系进行鉴定。结果显示,7对引物能很好地标记出双亲,并成功标记出了1份杂交种与亲本之间存在亲子关系,鉴定了种间杂交种的真实性。  相似文献
