IT is n tribute to the Congress Programme Committee, chaired by David Wadsworth, that it manages to come up with new ideas for the BSAVA Congress scientific programme; next year's lectures are of the highest standard. This month's Bsava News features two more of the overseas speakers who will be attending the Congress.

BSAVA Congress is outstanding value for money and by now you will have received your Congress envelope with complete details of the events that I have touched on over the past few months. The following are three more of the overseas speakers participating in this year's scientific programme.     

From foot-and-mouth to fibrosarcomas: an especially diverse Congress

Despite being overshadowed by the foot-and-mouth disease crisis, this year's BSAVA Congress was able to provide its customary extensive scientific educational programme to a large number of delegates. In addition, delegates were given the opportunity to learn more about FMD and were urged to help out where they could, with MAFF on hand to register practitioners for TVI duty. The recruitment exercise proved a great success

NEXT year's BSAVA Congress has succeeded in luring some of the world's top speakers to these shores. To whet your appetite, three overseas speakers are featured this month, with the remaining speakers appearing in future issues of Bsava News.

Socialising at Congress 2001

While you can pick up 21 hours ofCPD in one swoop at BSAVA Congress, one of the attractions of this annual event is the opportunity to chat to colleagues and catch upon the latest gossip and developments in the veterinary world. To oil the wheels, Philippa Yam and her colleagues on the Congress Committee have put together a lively programme which will provide delegates with plenty of opportunities to socialise, renew acquaintances and make new ones     

BSAVA Congress Scientific Programme: a taste of what's on offer

There are 155 veterinary lectures and 18 Specialist Sessions on offer at the BSAVA Congress in April. Adverse effects in veterinary practice

Is there a link between vaccination and feline fibrosarcomas? How significant is the risk of immune‐mediated disease in relation to vaccination? What are the risks when administering multiple drugs concurrently? These were some of the questions considered at the BSAVA Congress during sessions on adverse effects in veterinary practice

Practice Standards Scheme: the new questionnaire

Following the launch of the updated, enhanced, BSAVA Practice Standards Scheme in April (see BSAVA News, May 1998, pp 258–259), the BSAVA's Members' Services Committee has been busy putting the finishing touches to the new questionnaire and conducting a small pilot study to evaluate it within the practice situation. Euthanasia in the dog and cat

A survey was made of the euthanasia of dogs and cats in the Scottish Region of BSAVA. The reasons for euthanasia were classified and major differences were found between the two species in the numbers destroyed on veterinary, behavioural and convenience grounds. Methods of destruction and body disposal were also considered.     

Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the dog: a survey from practices in the Kent region BSAVA

The incidence and treatment of rupture of the canine anterior cruciate ligament are presented from reports over a 3-month period by members of the Kent Region BSAVA.
