The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of fishmeal (FM) replacement with corn protein concentrate (CPC) on growth performance, nutrient utilization, gut morphology and skin coloration of red hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis sp. Five isonitrogenous (350 g/kg crude protein) and isolipidic (10 g/kg lipid) diets were formulated to contain CPC that substituted 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% FM. Diets were fed to triplicate groups of tilapia (mean initial weight, 10.33 ± 0.02 g) twice daily for 63 days. The results showed that replacing up to 50% FM in red hybrid tilapia diet with CPC did not show any significant adverse effects on growth, feed utilization, haematocrit counts, condition factor and gut morphology of tilapia (p > 0.05). However, replacing 75% or 100% FM with CPC had deleterious effects (p < 0.05). Carotenoids in CPC contributed to skin yellowness, which was significantly higher in the diet where 100% FM was replaced with CPC. Using regression analysis, the optimal substitution level of FM by CPC was estimated at 25% for percentage weight gain, 33% for FCR and 29% for protein efficiency ratio. CPC could be used as a single plant protein source to substitute up to 50% FM in red hybrid tilapia diets.  相似文献

This study evaluates the composition and nutritional content of feeds for the commercial production of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) in Brazil. The feeds were assessed from a nutritional standpoint and as potential polluting agents of aquatic environments. The nutritional contents of each feed were calculated by considering the nutritional contributions of its ingredients based on reference tables. These contents were compared to the nutritional recommendations for O. niloticus. Altogether, 130 feeds were analysed, including 32 meant for fingerlings, 30 meant for juveniles, 38 meant for the growth stage and 30 meant for the termination stage. The overall digestibility of the feeds in terms of dry matter utilization was estimated to be 68.5%. Phosphorus was the nutrient with the lowest mean digestibility (51.2%), while protein had the highest mean digestibility (86.6%). Calcium and phosphorus levels exceeded their recommended values by 256.2% and 31.3%, respectively. The ratios of methionine, methionine plus cysteine, threonine and tryptophan to lysine were below their recommended values. The indigestible contents of nitrogen and phosphorus were 6.96 (±2.57) and 7.35 (±1.77) g kg?1, respectively. The information obtained here provides a reference for estimating the productive and polluting potential of feeds used in the production of Nile tilapia.  相似文献

Biofloc technology (BFT) provides an additional feed source for aquatic organisms through the conversion of waste in microbial flocs. Because of this, the suitable protein level in a diet for animals in this system could be different from those in conventional systems. Our objective was to determine the suitable protein level in the diet of Nile tilapia juveniles reared with BFT. Two experiments were carried out with tilapia weighing ~10 g (first experiment) and about 50 g (second experiment) during 61 and 98 days respectively. Five crude protein (CP) levels (within 17% and 33%) were tested. The increment of CP resulted in a reduction in dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity and an increase in dissolved phosphorus, total suspended solids and total ammonium nitrogen. The crude protein level had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on animal performance. The linear response plateau model was the best fit for the final weight and weight gain data in the two growth phases. In conclusion, tilapia juveniles of 10–60 g and 60–230 g in biofloc can be fed on diets with 28% of CP (26% of digestible protein) and 22% CP (20% of digestible protein) respectively.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted in earthen ponds at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand to determine different phosphorus fertilizer dose effects on Nile tilapia production, water quality variables, nutrient utilization and cost‐benefit under supplemental feeding. Five phosphorus fertilization rates were used as treatments e.g. 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% of 7 kg P ha week?1. Nitrogen fertilization rate was fixed at 28 kg N ha week?1 for all the treatments. Sex‐reversed Nile tilapia were stocked at 3 fish m?2, and 30% CP floating feed fed at 50% satiation feeding rate. Nutrient budget showed higher phosphorus fertilizer input resulted in higher phosphorus sink in the sediment. Mean weight, mean weight gain, daily weight gain and net yield were not significantly different among treatments (P > 0.05). Total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorus and soluble reactive phosphorus were significantly different among treatments. Economic analysis showed phosphorus fertilization resulted in positive net returns. Though the gross income was not affected by different fertilization rates, significantly lowest cost was found in the treatment using 25% phosphorus fertilizer. It can be concluded from the research that 25% phosphorus fertilization might be used as an alternative strategy of Nile tilapia pond culture in terms of economic return and nutrient loss in sediment.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate growth, body chemical composition and lipid profile of Nile tilapia juvenile fed with Schizochytrium sp. Two hundred and forty Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) juvenile (1.33 ± 0.11 g) were distributed in 20 aquariums, at the density of 12 fish per aquarium. The juvenile were fed with five levels of Schizochytrium sp.: Control (0 g/kg of Schizochytrium sp. in feed); AS10 (10 g/kg of Schizochytrium sp. in feed); AS20 (20 g/kg of Schizochytrium sp. in feed); AS30 (30 g/kg of Schizochytrium sp. in feed) and AS40 (40 g/kg of Schizochytrium sp. in feed). The inclusion of Schizochytrium sp. increase the body weight, weight gain, final biomass and biomass gain of tilapia juvenile. The body crude protein of tilapia was increased after addition of microalgae. Juvenile lipid profile also was influenced when fed with 40 g of Schizochytrium sp. per kg and have it levels of omega‐3 and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) increased, and omega 6:3 ratio decreased. Tilapia juvenile fed with Schizochytrium sp. per kg have better growth, omega‐3 and DHA levels rising in the body, being a considerable source of fatty acids for human nutrition. Levels above 20 g of Schizochytrium sp. per kg in the feed favour the increase of protein in Nile tilapia body.  相似文献

A 20‐week feeding trial was conducted to measure growth, nutrient utilization and faecal/gut bacterial counts in triplicate groups of red hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis sp., when fed diets supplemented with 0.5% organic acids blend (OAB), 1.0% OAB, 0.5% oxytetracycline (OTC) or a control diet (no additives). At the end of the feeding trial, tilapia were challenged with Streptococcus agalactiae for 22 days. Fish fed the OTC diet had significantly higher (P < 0.05) growth than the control treatment, while growth between fish fed the OTC or OAB diets was not significantly different (P > 0.05). Phosphorus, dry matter and ash digestibility were significantly higher in the 1.0% OAB diet than the control diet. Fish fed the OAB diets had significantly lower colony‐forming units of adherent gut bacteria compared to the control or OTC treatments while those fed the 1.0% OAB diet had the lowest total faecal bacterial counts. Tilapia fed the 0.5% OTC or OAB diet had significantly higher resistance to S. agalactiae than those fed the control diet. This study indicates that dietary organic acids can potentially replace OTC as a growth promoter and antimicrobial in tilapia feeds.  相似文献

Nitrogen and phosphorus budgets were estimated in 12 indoor fiberglass tanks stocked with hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus×O. aureus) at densities of 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg and 15 kg/m3 and reared for 14 days. Each density was replicated three times, and the experiment was repeated five times. The water in each tank was changed daily. Fish were fed a 34% protein tilapia feed to satiation twice daily. Feed consumption rate significantly decreased (P<0.05) with increasing density, but the FCR did not vary significantly (P>0.05) among the treatments. The production of one kilogram of fish required 2.0–2.2 kg of feed in different stocking density treatments, while 87.1–95.6 g nitrogen and 12.6–13.8 g phosphorus were released into the water, as metabolic waste. Of the feed input, 21.4% of the nitrogen and 18.8% of the phosphorus were incorporated in the fish harvested.  相似文献

Intensive production of ictalurid catfish in the USA has increased over the past several years, and a better understanding of the amount of organic carbon (OC) and dissolved oxygen (DO) in these culture environments is needed. Budgets for OC and DO were estimated over a production season (March to November) for an in‐pond raceway system for channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, and hybrid catfish (channel catfish × blue catfish, Ictalurus furcatus), with co‐culture of paddlefish, Polyodon spathula, and Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Feed input ranged from 45 to 263 kg/ha/d with an overall average of 80 kg/ha/d. Production of each kilogram of live catfish required 1.5 kg of feed and released into the water 0.70 kg of OC, and led to the synthesis of an additional 3.36 kg of OC by photosynthesis. Consequently, production of 1 kg of live catfish resulted in 4.06 kg OC, and harvest of catfish accounted for only 29.5% of OC applied from the feed. Removal of OC increased to 34.3% with the additional harvest of paddlefish and tilapia. OC was consumed in respiration, and some OC accumulated in sediment. Total respiration within the system exceeded the DO produced by photosynthesis, while diffusion and mechanical aeration aided in maintaining suitable DO levels for fish production.  相似文献

A nutrition trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary lipid levels and supplemental Ulva meal on growth performance, feed efficiency, nutrient utilization, and body composition of juvenile Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Four isonitrogenous (CP 40%) diets containing 0% and 5% Ulva meal were formulated to contain 10% (low-lipid; LL) and 20% (high-lipid; HL) crude lipid. Triplicate groups of fish (~10 g) were fed to apparent satiation three times daily for 16 weeks. Fish fed 5% Ulva meal showed an increased growth performance (P < 0.05) compared with fish fed non-Ulva supplemented diets, irrespective of dietary lipid level. In particular, the incorporation of Ulva meal improved specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER). Feeding fish 5% Ulva meal diets resulted in significantly lower carcass lipid content. The results indicate that 5% inclusion of Ulva meal at both dietary lipid levels improves growth performance, feed efficiency, nutrient utilization, and body composition of Nile tilapia.  相似文献

Studies on waste production and feeding management of Penaeusmonodon in semi-intensive culture system were carried out for foursuccessive crops at a commercial farm (M/S Suryo Udyog Ltd.) at Chandipur Coastof Orissa, India, at six different stocking densities. The prescribed feedingprogramme of C.P. Group, Thailand (NOVO-shrimp feed) were adopted andstandardized during first two crops and the standardized feeding scheme wasevaluated in the last two crops. Influence of standardized feeding programme onaverage feed conversion ratio (FCR) of P. monodon washighlysignificant (p < 0.001) against that of manufacturer's (NOVO-feed)prescribedfeeding programme. A feeding frequency of more than four times a day showed noimprovement in growth rate and there was no change in diurnal feeding habitprobably due to the fact that, in scientific farming, aquatic environment isartificially controlled. It was also observed that, as the age and weight ofshrimp increases, feed % decreases from 8.8 to 1.9% and lift net(LN)% increases from 2.4 to 4.3% for 1–40 gmeanbody weight of P. monodon respectively. The higher thestockingdensity, the higher was the FCR and sedimentation rate. In the presentexperiment, the sedimentation rate was estimated to be 49.5 m3 (dryvolume)/1000.0 kg of shrimp biomass. The average quantity of wastematter production was only 571.4 kg of organic matter, 10.21kg of nitrogen and 0.527 kg of phosphorus at anaverage FCR of 1.437 and stocking density of 22.5 pcs m-2 during the four crop experimental period.  相似文献

Feed rate is one of the important variables considered for the improvement in production of prawns. The effects of four feeding rates on growth, water quality and the nutrient budget of Penaeus latisulcatus were investigated for 98 days. The specific growth rate (SGR) at 3.0% feed rate was significantly higher than at all higher feed rates, and there was no significant difference in SGR between 4.5%, 6% and 7.5%. Total ammonia nitrogen concentrations in all treatments remained low in the safe range for prawn culture. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in prawn tanks received feed rates of 6.0% and 7.5%. Total phosphorus and the soluble reactive phosphorus linearly increased with the progression of the trial and feeding rates. Nutrient conversion rates were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in prawns receiving the feeding rate of 3.0% than feeding rates of 6.0% and 7.5%. The lowest food conversion ratio was recorded at feeding rates of 3% and 4.5%. Nutrient budget showed that 6.01–15.99% nitrogen and 4.53–9.29% phosphorus of the nutrient inputs were retained in the prawn biomass. The results indicated that the growth and nutrient conversion rate may not increase with the increase above 3.0% of biomass per day.  相似文献

A 10‐week study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplemental phytase and protease in low phosphorus (LP) and fishmeal‐free diets (FMF) on growth and nutrient utilization of tilapia. Seven isonitrogenous diets were prepared as positive control diet (PC) containing 60 g/kg fishmeal and 18 g/kg monocalcium phosphate (MCP), LP diet (12 g/kg MCP), FMF diet, LP‐FMF diet, and three enzyme diets with phytase (LP + Ph), protease (FMF + Pr), and phytase + protease (LP‐FMF + Ph + Pr) supplementation in LP, FMF and LP‐FMF diets, respectively. Weight gain, nutrient (except Ca) retention and digestibility of LP, FMF and LP‐FMF groups were lower than those of PC group (< 0.05). Compared to LP, FMF and LP‐FMF groups, the supplementation of phytase, protease and phytase + protease improved WG by 13.2%, 11.1% and 13.0% (< 0.05). The three enzyme groups showed higher digestibility of protein and P, and higher intestinal villus length than those of LP, FMF and LP‐FMF groups (< 0.05), respectively. Dietary phytase and Ph + Pr also promoted the retentions of crude protein and P (< 0.05). The results indicated that the supplementation of phytase in LP diet and protease in FMF diet improved the growth and nutrient utilization, and phytase reduced MCP inclusion in the diet of tilapia.  相似文献

Organic fish farming is postulated as a more environmentally friendly activity than conventional activities. However, environmental sustainability as regards waste output has not been addressed. In this respect, the most important environmental problems associated with fish farming are those related with the discharge of particulate wastes. In this study, total nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus digestibility was estimated in a wide size range of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) and European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fed a commercially available conventional diet and an organic feed, as a previous step to assessing particulate waste output. Neither fish size nor feed nutrient content was seen to influence nutrient digestibility in either species. The organic diet provided higher carbon but lower nitrogen and phosphorus digestibility than conventional feed in both species. Simulations under real ongrowing conditions resulted in lower values for nitrogen and higher values for carbon particulate wastes when conventional feed was supplied to both species. Particulate phosphorus wastes were 2.6‐ to 3.4‐fold higher for fish fed the organic diet. Restrictions concerning NO the raw materials used for organic diet formulation and differences in nutrient bioavailability between the diets seemed to be the underlying reason for the differences found.  相似文献

Thirty groups of twenty juveniles each of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus, initial average weight 23.93 ± 0.80 g) were fed diets containing increasing amounts (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of levels used by the tilapia feed industry) of organic trace mineral (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Se) supplementation for 56 days. Growth was not affected by the dose of mineral supplementation. However, body protein increased in fish fed intermediate doses of organic minerals, reaching a maximum at 40.44% supplementation. Doses >50% showed mild damage to the intestinal tissue. Body Fe, Zn and Cu deposition were highest at 28.32%, 24.43% and 78.45% supplementation, respectively. Tilapia could modulate intestinal morphology when fed different doses of organic minerals. As the supplementation doses increased, hemosiderin staining increased in the distal intestine and total body Fe content, indicating that the distal region of the intestine plays an important role in iron excretion by tilapia. Supplementation of organic trace minerals at intermediate doses does not harm Nile tilapia growth, but excessive trace mineral supplementation can impair body protein retention and promote histological alterations in the gut.  相似文献

A 3 × 2 factorial experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of different ratios of fish meal (FM): sunflower meal (SFM) with or without exogenous xylanase supplementation on growth, feed utilization, digestive enzymes activities, apparent digestibility, intestinal and liver morphology and chemical composition of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Three isonitrogenous (329.80 g/kg of crude protein) and isoenergetic (18.46 MJ/kg gross energy) experimental diets were formulated as SFM1 (FM:SFM = 2:1), SFM2 (FM:SFM = 1:1) and SFM3 (FM:SFM = 1:2) based on protein content. Each diet was supplemented with 0 or 0.5 g/kg of exogenous xylanase and was fed to triplicate groups of twelve fish (with initial weight, 1.31 ± 0.02 g) for 84 days. After 84 days of feeding period, the highest weight gain, specific growth rate, protein efficiency, protein productive value and the best feed conversion ratio were recorded in fish fed either SFM1 or SFM2 supplemented with exogenous xylanase. Whereas lowest growth performance was recorded in fish fed SFM2 and SFM3 un‐supplemented with xylanase. The highest activities of chymotrypsin, trypsin, lipase, amylase, alkaline phosphatase and cholecystokinin were observed in fish fed SFM1 and SFM2 diets supplemented with xylanase. The highest ADCs of dry matter, protein, lipid and digestible energy were recorded in fish fed SFM1 and SFM2 diets supplemented with exogenous xylanase. Supplementation of exogenous xylanase improved muscularis mucosa thickness, height of mucosal folds and enterocytes of intestinal fish. Addition of exogenous xylanase increased the calcium and phosphorus retention. Results of this study indicated that the addition of exogenous xylanase to diet containing high inclusion level of sunflower meal improved growth, digestive enzymes, nutrient digestibility, histological morphometric of liver and intestine and nutrient retention.  相似文献

After being shifted to a new diet, time related alterations in digestibility, faecal waste production and faeces recovery in Nile tilapia were assessed in relation with dietary ingredient composition. Four experimental diets were formulated according to a 2 by 2 factorial design: two starch inclusion levels (20 or 40%) and two maize starch types (native versus gelatinized). After introduction to the experimental diets, faeces were collected weekly from Week 2 till 6 using settling tanks. Digestibility of ash, organic matter and dry matter increased with time (P < 0.001). For organic and dry matter the time related alteration in digestibility were different between both starch types (P < 0.05). All faecal waste characteristics altered with time (P < 0.01). The incline in faeces recovery with time was affected by starch type (P < 0.01); being the largest at the 40% gelatinized maize diet. In conclusion, the minimal length of the adaptation period in digestibility studies for obtaining unbiased digestibility estimates is dependent on diet composition, in this study with Nile tilapia 4 weeks for diets with gelatinized starch and 6 weeks with native starch.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of the stocking density of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) on shrimp and tilapia growth and nutrient conversion in an integrated closed recirculating system both with and without Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A 2 × 3 factorial design involving tilapia presence/absence and shrimp stocking densities of 40, 80 and 120 m?2 was applied, using a tilapia:shrimp ratio of 0.025. There were no significant interactions between tilapia presence and shrimp stocking density in terms of shrimp growth performance or feed utilization. The presence of tilapia had no effect on the shrimp growth rate, survival rate or total weight gain (%). Shrimp growth declined significantly with increased shrimp stocking density, but the growth of tilapia was not significantly different among the three shrimp densities tested. The conversion of feed nitrogen and phosphorus into total harvested animal biomass was significantly higher in the presence than in the absence of tilapia. The nutrient conversion rate at the lowest shrimp density (40 m?2) was significantly higher than at the highest density tested (120 m?2).  相似文献

The dietary total and available requirement of tryptophan of Nile tilapia fingerlings was determined using linear regression analysis. Six hundred fish (3.4 ± 0.0 g) were fed diets containing 296.4 g/kg of crude protein and 14.1 MJ/kg of digestible energy. Five extruded diets containing 2.5, 3.0, 3.4, 3.8 and 4.2 g/kg of total tryptophan were evaluated. Fish were fed four times a day during 45 days. Final body weight, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio and net protein utilization of fish fed Trp 3.4 and Trp 3.8 diets were improved compared to fish fed Trp 2.5 and Trp 4.2 diets. No significant differences in survival rate, whole‐body moisture and ash were observed. Whole‐body amino acid profile of fish fed different diets did not differ statistically (p > .05). Fish fed Trp 3.0 and Trp 3.4 diets showed higher tryptophan retention compared to fish fed Trp 2.5 and Trp 4.2 diets. Excepting blood glucose, no effects of dietary tryptophan on haematological parameters were observed. The dietary total tryptophan requirement of Nile tilapia fingerlings based on weight gain was estimated to be 3.4 g/kg (11.0 g/kg of dietary crude protein) or 3.0 g/kg of available tryptophan (11.0 g/kg of dietary digestible protein).  相似文献

Two trials were carried out to evaluate the apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), lipids, starch and gross energy (GE) of six European varieties of grain legumes, namely chickpea‐type Kabuli (CHK), chickpea‐type Desi (CHD), field pea (FP), faba bean (FB), white lupin (WL) and chickling vetch (CV), in rainbow trout and Nile tilapia juveniles. The ADCs were measured using a reference diet and six experimental diets (700 g/kg of the reference diet and 300 g/kg of each raw grain legume) containing 10 g/kg chromic oxide as inert marker. Additionally, grain legumes were analysed for the organic acids profile. In rainbow trout, FP presented the highest ADCs of DM, CP and GE, whereas chickpeas and FB had the lowest DM, GE and starch ADC values. In Nile tilapia, the lowest values of nutrients (except starch) and energy ADCs were found for FP and CV. Nutrients and energy of chickpeas, WL and FB were better digested by tilapia, whereas FP was better digested by trout. Overall results reveal raw grain legumes as promising feed sources for both fish species.  相似文献

Aquaculture development in Ghana is currently limited by inadequate supply of fingerlings and prohibitive cost of commercial feeds among other challenges. This study tested the feasibility of using low‐cost feeds containing soybean meal instead of fishmeal for nursing Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry. Three isonitrogenous (~48% crude protein) and isoenergetic (~17 kJ/g) diets with increasing inclusions of soybean meal as partial replacements for fishmeal were formulated. A commercial fishmeal‐based fry feed served as the control diet. Triplicate groups of 225 fish per tank (average initial weight: 2.09 ± 0.14 g) were stocked in a recirculating aquaculture system and fed the experimental diets for 21 days. Afterwards, we investigated the postprandial metabolism, nutrient digestibility, growth and gut histology in Nile tilapia fry. Simple economic analyses were also conducted to assess the cost‐effectiveness of the diets used in the feed trial. The dietary inclusions of the soybean meal significantly reduced feed cost by ~43% relative to the control diet. The growth performance and feed utilization parameters did not vary significantly among the different treatments. The soybean diets elicited significant reductions in villi heights and goblet cell numbers, which corresponded with increasing dietary levels of soybean meal. This study confirms the potential of soybean meal as a partial replacement for fishmeal in Nile tilapia fry diets in terms of lower feed costs, fish growth performance, nutrient digestibility and postprandial nitrogenous excretions. The inclusion of soybean, however, affected negatively the gut integrity of the fry.  相似文献
