The study was conducted to examine the influence of diets containing − 110, + 110, + 220 and + 330 mEq/kg dry matter (DM) of dietary cation anion difference (DCAD) on serum minerals, minerals balance (Na, K, Cl, S, Ca, Mg and P) and hypocalcemia in prepartum Nili Ravi buffaloes in a randomized complete block design during summer. Four DCAD diets were randomly allotted to four groups, five buffaloes in each group. A linear increase in nutrients intake was recorded with increasing the DCAD level. Buffaloes fed − 110 DCAD diet had higher nutrients digestibilities than those fed + 110, + 220 and + 330 DCAD. Blood pH and serum HCO3 also increased linearly with increasing DCAD level. Serum Cl was high in buffaloes fed the − 110 DCAD diet, while serum cation anion difference increased linearly with increasing the DCAD level. Serum Ca increased with decreasing the DCAD level while serum Mg, P and S remained unaffected. Urine pH increased with increasing DCAD level. A constant increase in urinary excretion of Ca, Mg, P and Cl was observed with decreasing the DCAD level. Buffaloes fed − 110 DCAD diet had increased Ca and Cl balance while Mg, P and S balance remained unaltered due to DCAD alteration. Not a single case of hypocalcemia was observed in buffaloes fed − 110 and + 110 DCAD diets. However, one buffalo from each group fed + 220 and + 330 DCAD diets had hypocalcemia. This study indicated that − 110 and + 110 DCAD diets not only increased calcium balance but also prevented hypocalcemia in Nili ravi buffaloes.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of monensin or virginiamycin, or both on the performance of and some energy balance parameters in Holstein cows. Forty multiparous Holstein cows were used in a randomized complete block design experiment. The basal diet was a total mixed ration based on lucerne hay (38% of DM) and ground maize (34% of DM). The experimental treatments were (1) control diet (C); (2) control diet plus 15 ppm of monensin (M); (3) control diet plus 20 ppm of virginiamycin (V), and control plus M (15 ppm) plus V (20 ppm). Cows received 8 kg/d (as fed) of the experimental diets plus ad libitum Eragrostis curvula hay from 3 weeks prepartum and only the experimental diets from calving until 60 days postpartum. Cows were milked twice daily. Dry matter intake did not differ between treatments, but energy corrected milk production was increased (P < 0.10) by supplementing V + M (43.3 kg/d) when compared to treatments M (36.9 kg/d) and V (37.9 kg/d). Change in body weight tended (P = 0.11) to be lower for cows supplemented with V + M (− 8.1 kg/60 d) when compared to cows receiving the control diet (− 34.2 kg/60 d). Both treatments M and V respectively, decreased blood BHBA and treatment M increased blood glucose when compared to the control diet (P < 0.10). Results suggest a complimentary effect between the two additives monensin and virginiamycin when supplemented to early lactation cows.  相似文献

Calcium (Ca) requirement increase rapidly by pregnant ewes at late gestation as a result of high fetal growth. Furthermore, Ca deficiency results in poor growth and bone development in growing newborn lambs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium supplementation (Calcium carbonate–CC) and vitamin AD3E injection (75,000 IU/shot) to pregnant Awassi ewes at late gestation (− 45 days prepartum) on their mineral levels and performance of their newborn lambs. Forty pregnant Awassi ewes at late gestation (65 ± 6.1 kg) were selected before parturition (− 45 days; using hormonal sponges for estrus synchronization) and randomly divided to 4 dietary treatments. The treatments were: group 1 Control (1.4% CC); group 2 (2.4% CC); group 3 (1.4% CC + 2 shots vitamin AD3E at − 45 and − 21 days prepartum); group 4 (2.4% CC + 2 shots vitamin AD3E at − 45 and − 21 days prepartum). Blood samples were collected from ewes (− 45, 0 days prepartum: 30 and 60 days postpartum) and lambs (0, 30 and 60 days old). Average milk yield and samples were collected. Body weights of lambs were taken at birth, 30 and 60 days old. Blood serum and milk samples were prepared and analyzed by AAS for Ca, Mg, Co, Mn and Cu concentrations.Calcium concentrations in bloods serum of ewes, 0 and 60 days postpartum, and lambs at weaning (60 days old) from group 4 were significantly (P < 0.05) higher compared to other groups. No significant effect (P > 0.05) of treatment on Co, Mg and Cu in blood serum of ewes and lambs except for Cu concentration in ewes. Moreover, a significant increase (P < 0.01) in milk inorganic% (30 and 60 days samples) in ewes from group 2 when compared with other groups. The average milk yield (AMY) of ewes from group 2 and 4 at late stage of lactation (45–60 days) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) compared to groups 1 and 3. In addition, Ca% in colostrums samples from ewes in groups 2 and 4 were significantly higher (P < 0.01). The average daily gain (ADG) and total body gain for lambs up to weaning (60 days old) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in groups 1 and 2 compared with the other groups. In conclusion, increasing level of Ca intake in feed of Awassi ewes at late gestation, with or without vitamin AD3E injections, improve the calcium concentration in colostrums and blood serum of ewes and their lambs without negative effect in their health and performance.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of duration of feeding linseed (rich in n-3 PUFA) on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) gene expression, and muscle mass of growing–finishing barrows. Two isoenergetic and isonitrogenous diets were formulated, and one of which was the basal diet and another one was the linseed diet including linseed at the level of 10%. Twenty-four Landrace × Yorkshire barrows weighing 35 ± 3.7 kg were randomly assigned to four treatments with six individuals per treatment. Pigs in treatment 1 (T1) fed the control diet throughout the experimental period, while pigs in T2, T3 and T4 fed the control diet except for 30, 60, and 90 d prior to slaughter when the linseed diet were fed. The experiment was conducted for 90 days. The longissimus muscle mass and each muscle mass in the hind leg were weighted. PPARγ and TNF-α mRNA expression levels in muscle, spleen and adipose tissue, and plasma concentrations of TNF-α data were measured and analyzed. The results showed that the longissimus muscle mass, quadriceps femoris muscle mass and semitendinosus muscle mass increased linearly (< 0.01) as prolonged the time of feeding linseed diet. The expression of PPARγ in longissimus muscle and spleen increased (< 0.01) linearly as prolonged the time of feeding linseed diet, while the expression of PPARγ in adipose tissue were not affected (= 0.095). Duration of linseed addition linearly decreased (< 0.01) TNF-α gene expression levels in the longissimus dorsi muscle, adipose and spleen, and serum concentration of TNF-α as well. The expression levels of PPARγ negatively correlated with the expression of TNF-α in muscle (R2 = 0.70, < 0.001) and spleen (R2R2 = 0.77, < 0.001) respectively. Likewise, PPARγ expression level in spleen (R2R2 = 0.59, < 0.01) or muscle (R2R2 = 0.52, < 0.05) negative correlated with serum TNF-α concentration, while there were significant quadratic relation between muscular PPARγ (R2R2 = 0.80, < 0.01) or muscular TNF-α (R2R= 0.87, < 0.01) expression and the longissimus dorsi muscle mass. These data suggested that duration of feeding linseed diet lead to a linear decrease of TNF-α gene expression, which may increase the muscle mass in growing–finishing barrows, at least in part, through a PPARγ-dependent mechanism.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to investigate the associative effects of a cornstalk-based diet supplemented with alfalfa (Medicago sativa) hay on intake, digestibility, nitrogen (N) metabolisation, rumen environment and hematological parameters in Xiaoweihan sheep. We also investigated the optimal range of alfalfa hay to achieve positive associative effects and avoid negative effects. Xiaoweihan sheep (n = 5; fitted with rumen T-cannula) were fed five cornstalk-based diets in a 5 × 5 Latin square design. Diets contained 0, 50, 150, 300, 450 g alfalfa, and were supplemented with 100 g concentrate, respectively. Our results suggested that supplementation of 300 g alfalfa hay reduced (P < 0.05) cornstalk intake, but significantly increased dry matter (DM) intake (P < 0.05). Additionally, DM digestibility of 150 g alfalfa hay supplementation was slightly higher than that noted in other diets. Metabolism studies showed 50–150 g alfalfa hay supplementation had a positive associative effect (P < 0.05) on N utilization, with the greatest benefit noted with 150 g per day (P < 0.05) compared to unsupplemented diets. Alfalfa supplementation (50–450 g per day) resulted in an elevated trend of ammonia nitrogen (NH3–N) with 50 or 150 g of alfalfa hay more likely to promote sheep rumen environment, with a noticeable increase (P < 0.05) in serum urea nitrogen (UREAN) concentrations observed with 300 g alfalfa hay per day. Our data suggested that the optimal range to achieve beneficial effects and avoid negative effects was 150–300 g per day for cornstalk-based diets for sheep.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to examine whether CLA would help to improve negative responses in lactating cows during heat stress. During a 2-week adjustment period, all cows were fed a control diet supplemented with 400 g of calcium salts of palm oil fatty acids. After the adjustment period, cows (n = 9 per group) were randomly assigned by block to one of four treatments: control or three diets containing 100, 200, or 400 g of CLA (70% of which were mixed isomers of CLA). Milk fat percentage and yield decreased by supplementation of CLA (P < 0.01), but milk yield and other nutrient components did not vary (P > 0.05). The concentrations of short and medium-chain fatty acids (C4–C14) decreased and long-chain fatty acids (C18) increased in milk fat for cows fed CLA. Moreover, the contents of cis9, trans11 and trans10, cis12-CLA in milk fat increased markedly (P < 0.01). Respiration rate was lower (P < 0.05) for cows fed 200 g of CLA and rectal temperature decreased (P < 0.01) in all CLA groups during day 15 to day 28. Contents of aspartate aminotransferase, creatine kinase, thyroxin, potassium, sodium, calcium and chlorine were altered by CLA supplements, whereas other plasma parameters were not affected (P > 0.05). Lower concentrations of aspartate aminotransferase and creatine kinase in blood for cows fed 200 g or 400 g of CLA suggested that CLA protected cows from muscle damage. In addition, higher concentrations of electrolytes and thyroxin in blood in these groups suggested that CLA could improve heat stress situations in cows. Overall, the results showed that supplementations with 200 or 400 g/day of CLA moderated the negative responses in heat-stressed cows.  相似文献

Influence of + 110, + 220 and + 330 mEq/kg of dry matter (DM) dietary cation anion difference (DCAD) on growth performance of growing male buffalo calves was examined in a randomized complete block design. Three DCAD diets were randomly allotted to three groups, ten calves in each group. A linear increase in nutrient intake was recorded with increased DCAD level. However, digestibilities of nutrients remained unaltered across all diets. Calves fed + 330 DCAD diet had higher nitrogen balance than those fed + 110 DCAD diet. Blood pH and serum HCO3 increased with increased DCAD level. Serum chloride was high in calves fed + 110 DCAD diet, while serum (Na + K) − (Cl + S) increased linearly with increased DCAD level. Serum calcium increased with decreased DCAD level while serum magnesium and phosphorus remained unaffected. Ca balance remained unaltered by calves fed varying level of DCAD. Urine pH increased with increased DCAD level. Calves fed + 220 and + 330 DCAD diets gained more weight than those fed + 110 DCAD diet. In conclusion, increased DCAD level not only increased dry matter intake but also weight gain in growing buffalo calves.  相似文献

Three hundred and ninety six pigs weighing 42 kg (s.d. +/− 2.5 kg), (progeny of Landrace × Large White sows × Meatline boars) (216 boars and 180 females) were assigned to four dietary treatments to determine the effects of restricting dietary lysine during the grower period (approximately 42 to 63 kg) on nitrogen (N) intake, retention and excretion during the finisher period (approximately 63 kg to slaughter at 94 kg). Two experiments, a performance experiment (nine replicates/treatment) and a N balance experiment (four replicates/treatment) were carried out. The experimental treatments were (1) 1.25% lysine from d 0 to d 28 and 1.05% lysine from d 29 to slaughter (HM), (2) 1.05% lysine from d 0 to slaughter (MM), (3) 0.85% lysine from d 0 to d 28 and 1.05% lysine from d 29 to slaughter (LM) and (4) 0.85% lysine from d 0 to slaughter (LL). All diets were pelleted and formulated to contain 13.8 MJ DE/kg. The pigs were group fed in mixed sex pens using single space feeders (11 pigs/feeder, 6 boars and 5 females). In the N balance experiment, sixteen entire male pigs, after 16 days on the diets were placed individually in metabolism crates and urine and faeces were collected. The pigs offered the 0.85% lysine diets during the grower period had a lower average daily gain (ADG) and a poorer feed conversion ratio (FCR) than the pigs offered 1.25% and 1.05% lysine diets (P < 0.05). During the early finisher period (days 29–42) and overall finisher period (days 29–56) pigs on treatment LM had a higher ADG (P < 0.01) and a better FCR (P < 0.05) than pigs on treatment LL. Pigs on treatment LM also had a better FCR than pigs on treatment HM and MM (P < 0.05) during the early finisher period. Pigs on treatment LM had a significantly (P < 0.05) higher lean meat proportion than pigs on treatment LL. During the grower N balance, pigs on the 0.85% lysine diets (treatments LM and LL) had lower N intakes (P < 0.001), N excretions (P < 0.001) and a higher (P < 0.001) nitrogen utilisation than pigs on treatments MM and HM. During the finisher N balance, pigs on treatment LL had a lower N intake (P < 0.001), N excretion (P < 0.01) and N retention (P < 0.05) than pigs on all other treatments. In conclusion, restricting dietary lysine during the grower period reduced growth rate but resulted in a more efficient growth during the early finisher period once dietary lysine was restored.  相似文献

Sixteen Quarter Horse weanlings were used in a splitplot design experiment to determine the effects of dietary cation-anion difference (DCAD) on mineral metabolism, osteocalcin concentration and variables of growth. Horses were blocked by age and sex and then randomly allotted to two treatment groups (High or Low). Experimental diets with a DCAD of +325 (High, H) and −52 (Low, L) were formed by supplementing diet H with sodium bicarbonate and diet L with calcium chloride. The DCAD was calculated as meq (Na+K)−(Cl+S)/kg of diet DM. The 25-week trial consisted of three 72 h collection periods at 150, 240 and 330 d of age during which a complete urine collection was taken.Multiple fecal grab samples were collected to represent every 2 h post-feeding during each collection period. Venous blood samples were taken for analysis of serum osteocalcin concentration. Weekly measurements were taken to monitor skeletal growth. Representative samples of feed, feces and urine were analyzed for mineral content and apparent mineral balances were calculated by difference. Although osteocalcin concentration did not differ significantly between diets H and L at 150 and 330 d of age, it was higher (P<.05) at d 240 in horses consuming diet H versus diet L. No difference (P>.05) was detected between treatments in any skeletal growth variable measured. Phosphorus balance and digestibility did not differ significantly between treatments across d of age. However, digestibility of P was lower (P<.05) at d 240 and 330 compared to d 150 in both treatments. Horses consuming diet L experienced an increased (P<.05) urinary and a decreased (P<005) fecal excretion of Ca compared to horses consuming diet H. Apparent daily Ca balance was higher (P<.05) in horses consuming diet L than those on diet H at 240 and 330 d of age. Furthermore, Ca digestibility decreased significantly between d 150 and d 240 and 330 in horses consuming diet H. Horses consuming diet L experienced no difference (P>.05) in Ca digestibility across d of age. These findings suggest that horses consuming a low DCAD diet are able to compensate for the increased urinary excretion of Ca by enhancing intestinal Ca absorption and thereby increasing daily CA balance and digestibility.  相似文献

Three, multiparous Holstein crossbred dairy cows with initial body weight of 385 ± 19 kg were randomly allocated to 3 treatments of rice straw (T1 = untreated rice straw; T2 = 5.5% urea-treated rice straw (5 g urea in 100 ml water to 100 g air-dry (91% DM) straw); T3 = 2.2% urea + 2.2% calcium hydroxide treated rice straw (2.0 g urea and 2.0 g Ca(OH)2 in 100 ml to 100 g air-dry (91% DM) straw) according to a 3 × 3 Latin square design. Each period lasted for 21 days in which feed, feces and rumen fluid were collected during the last 7 days for chemical analyses. The findings revealed significant improvements in dry matter intake and digestibility by using 5.5% urea-treated rice straw and 2.2% urea + 2.2% calcium hydroxide treated rice straw. Ruminal pH and NH3-N were found higher (P < 0.05) as compared with urea-treated rice straw fed group, while blood urea nitrogen and milk urea nitrogen were in normal ranges. Volatile fatty acid concentrations especially those of acetic acid were decreased (P < 0.05) and those of propionic acid were increased (P < 0.05), thus acetic acid:propionic acid was subsequently lowered (P < 0.05) in cows fed with 5.5% urea-treated rice straw and 2.2% urea + 2.2% calcium hydroxide treated rice straw, respectively. Moreover, ruminal viable and cellulolytic bacterial counts were enhanced by urea and calcium hydroxide treatments. Milk protein and fat concentrations were additionally increased by respective treatments while 3.5% fat-corrected milk was highest; ranking from 2.2% urea + 2.2% calcium hydroxide treated rice straw, 5.5% urea-treated rice straw and urea-treated rice straw fed groups. Based on this study, implications could be made that using 2.2% urea + 2.2% calcium hydroxide treated rice straw for straw treatment could be an alternative treatment to 5.5% urea treatment with regards to its effectiveness and treatment cost for lactating dairy cows.  相似文献

Forty six spring-calving Holstein–Friesians (12 primiparous, 34 pluriparous) were block-paired (expected calving date, parity, body condition score and genetic merit) and allocated to either a PASTURE or HOUSED system for a full production cycle (− 40 to 305 days relative to calving). Both hind claws were inspected on six occasions (− 40, 10, 35, 85, 120 and 210 days relative to calving) to determine the severity of 5 disorders (sole and white line area haemorrhages, white line disease, heel horn erosion, digital dermatitis and other lesions). Six aspects of locomotion ability (tracking, spine curvature, speed, head bobbing, general symmetry and abduction/adduction) were assessed from 1 (normal) to 5 (abnormal) every 2 weeks. Throughout the study records of clinical lameness were kept for all animals. Lying times of 26 block-paired cows (PASTURE n = 13, HOUSED n = 13) were recorded automatically every 5 min for 48 h at 33, 83 and 193 days post-calving. Data were analysed using mixed models for repeated measures, logistic regression and survival analysis, as appropriate. The severity of hoof disorders was lower for PASTURE compared to HOUSED cows from 85 days post-calving onwards (P < 0.05). HOUSED cows had a greater hazard ratio (P < 0.01) of presenting an abnormal (i.e. scoring ≥ 3) tracking (2.8), spine curvature (2.3), head bobbing (3.6), general symmetry (3.0), abduction/adduction (4.2) and for the average (3.9) of all locomotion aspects investigated (i.e. abnormal locomotion). Furthermore, HOUSED cows had a greater odds ratio (6.5, P < 0.01) of clinical lameness from day 180 post-calving onwards. Mean total lying times per 48 h period were shorter (P < 0.001) for HOUSED compared to PASTURE cows (18.1 h, SE 0.71 vs. 20.5 h, SE 0.73). In summary, from day 85 post-calving to the end of the production cycle PASTURE cows had less severe hoof disorders, better locomotion ability and reduced likelihood of clinical lameness compared to similar cows in a HOUSED system. The PASTURE system also facilitated longer, undisrupted lying times that have beneficial implications for lameness. A PASTURE system therefore improved cow welfare in terms of lameness compared to a HOUSED system.  相似文献

The effects of feeding diets with different milliequivalents (mEq) of dietary ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) to dairy cows during the last seven weeks of pregnancy on bone morphology at parturition were studied. Nine monozygotic twin pairs of pregnant cows (five pairs of parity 1 or 2 and four pairs of parity 3 or more) were allocated to two diets which were formulated to provide either −4 mEq (anion diet) or +572·5 mEq (cation diet) of ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) kg−1 dietary dry matter. Bone biopsies were taken from the tuber coxae between three and eight hours after parturition. The plasma concentrations of calcium and inorganic phosphorus, the total plasma alkaline phosphatase activity and the urinary hydroxyproline:creatinine ratio were not significantly affected by diet during the experimental period. In low parity (2 or less) cows the percentage trabecular bone volume, the percentage osteoclast surface and the mean number of osteoclasts per microscopic field (identified by Goldner staining) were lower on the anion diet than on the cation diet (P<0-02). In the high parity cows, the percentage osteoid volume (P<0·05) and the ratio of percentage osteoid volume to percentage osteoid surface (P<0·001) were greater in the cows fed the anion diet than in the cows fed the cation diet. The results show that reducing the mEq of dietary ([Na+ + K+] − [Cl + SO4=]) to −4 mEq kg−1 dietary dry matter affected some of the parameters of bone formation but did not enhance bone resorption.  相似文献

The objective of the experiment reported here was to establish the effect of canola meal supplements of different protein degradability on the performance of grazing dairy cows with different body condition scores (BCS) in early lactation, and to compare this with feeding a cereal grain supplement instead. The experiment included a total of 72 cows in six treatments in a 2 * 3 factorial design, incorporating two BCS at calving (4.1 and 5.6 units on an 8-point scale), and three early lactation pelleted supplements. The three pelleted supplements were 100% wheat (wheat supplement), 50% wheat and 50% untreated mechanically extracted canola meal (a rumen degradable protein supplement), and 50% wheat and 50% canola meal that had been subjected to additional heat and pressure (a rumen undegradable protein supplement). It was hypothesised that fat cows would perform best with the treated canola meal supplement, which provided most rumen undegradable protein, whereas the type of protein would not be important for thin cows, and neither would the type of supplemental energy. Cows grazed pasture after calving at a daily pasture allowance of 35–40 kg DM/cow and were offered 6 kg concentrates each day. Cows were fed these diets for 92 days on average, from calving until three weeks into the mating period. Both canola meal-based supplements resulted in higher (P < 0.05) daily milk production than the wheat supplement (33.3 and 34.0 v. 30.5 kg/cow) in both thin and fat cows. Body condition score at calving positively (P < 0.05) affected average milk yield (31.6 v. 33.7 kg/cow), however, there was a time × BCS × supplement interaction whereby the fatter cows benefited from the use of either of the canola meal supplements for a longer period than did the thin cows. Average milk fat concentrations were greater (P < 0.05) where the canola meal supplements were fed (39.3 and 39.6 v. 35.6 g/kg), and in fat cows relative to thin cows (40.0 v. 36.3 g/kg). Serum urea concentrations were significantly (P < 0.05) lower in cows fed wheat than in those fed either of the canola meal supplements (3.1 v. 4.3 and 4.2 mmol/L). Serum β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations were lowest (P < 0.05) where wheat pellets were fed, and highest (P < 0.05) where treated canola meal pellets were fed, and plasma glucose concentrations were highest with wheat and lowest with the treated canola meal pellets. Thus, the hypothesis was not supported by the results of this experiment.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to study the effects of interactions between medium quality grass silage (GS1) and maize silage (MS) as well as between low-quality grass silage (GS2) and MS on ad libitum intake, digestibility and N retention in wether sheep. Two grass silages (GS1 and GS2) were ensiled in round bales, without additives, from the primary growth of orchard grass (Dactylis glomerata L.) harvested at two different maturity stages. The study consisted of seven feeding treatments incorporating GS1, GS2 and MS fed alone and forage mixtures of GS1 and MS as well as GS2 and MS (67:33% and 33:67%, respectively, DM (dry matter) basis).Delayed harvesting lowered (P < 0.05) the crude protein (CP) concentration in GS2 compared to GS1. The DM content (g kg− 1 fresh sample) and starch concentration (g kg− 1 DM) of MS were 264 and 211, respectively.Inclusion of MS in the GS1-based ration had positive linear effects on CP and starch digestibility (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively) and N intake (P < 0.01) while a negative effect on neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) digestibility (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). A positive associative response of GS1 and MS was observed for DM ad libitum intake (g kg− 1 M0.75 day− 1) (quadratic, P < 0.05), CP digestibility (quadratic, P < 0.01), N intake (quadratic, P < 0.01) and N balance (quadratic, P < 0.05). Inclusion of MS into the GS2-based ration had a positive linear effect on the ration fresh matter ad libitum intake (kg day− 1 and g kg− 1 M0.75 day− 1) (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001, respectively), NDF ad libitum intake (kg day− 1 and g kg− 1 M0.75 day− 1) (P < 0.01), digestibility of DM (P < 0.01), organic matter (OM) (P < 0.01), ADF (P < 0.05), starch (P < 0.001), digestibility of OM in DM (D-value) (P < 0.001), and N intake (P < 0.01). Positive associative effects of GS2 and MS were observed on all the intake and digestibility parameters measured, N intake (quadratic, P < 0.001) and N balance (quadratic, P < 0.05). It was concluded that, as expected, a positive associative response of GS2 and MS was recorded for all the measured parameters while that of GS1 and MS for a limited number of parameters, probably due to lower quality of MS (lower starch concentration) than required for improved utilization of the GS1-based ration.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of single or carbohydrases cocktail in low-nutrient-density diets on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood characteristics, and carcass traits of growing–finishing pigs. A total of 96 pigs with an average initial BW of 47.50 ± 1.25 kg were used in this 8-week growth trial. Pigs were randomly allocated to 1 of the 4 treatments according to its BW and sex (4 pigs/pen, 6 replicate pens/treatment). The diets included: 1) control (CON) corn–soybean meal diet (DE, 3400 kcal/kg; CP, 17%), 2) low-nutrient-density (LC) diet with 6% DDGS and 5% tapioca (DE, 3280 kcal/kg; CP, 15%), 3) LC + 0.05% β-mannanase (LCS), and 4) LC + 0.05% enzyme mixture (LCM). The LC treatment had a lower ADG, and G/F compared to the other treatments in 0–4 weeks and the overall period of the feeding trial (P < 0.05). The ADFI were decreased in LC, LCS, and LCM groups related to CON (P < 0.05). The LCS treatment had higher DM digestibility than pigs in both the LC and LCM groups (P < 0.05) on 4 weeks while LCM improved N and energy digestibility compared to LC treatment. Blood urea nitrogen and creatinine values were not affected by the experimental treatments. After the feeding period, pigs (2 per pen) which reached marketing BW were collected meat samples from slaughter house. Backfat thickness was decreased in LC, LCS and LCM groups (P < 0.05). No numerical differences were observed in meat color, pH value and water holding capacity among four treatments. In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that single or carbohydrases cocktail in low-density diets can partially improve ADG, G/F, nutrient digestibility, and meat quality in finishing pigs, which can counteract the negative effects caused by the decreased nutrient concentration.  相似文献

This study analysed feeding patterns and feed selective consumption by loose-housed lactating dairy cows fed diets based on maize silage (MS) with different particle length (PL) to establish its effects on overall dry matter intake (DMI) and productive performance. Twelve multiparous Holstein cows were offered a total mixed ration (TMR) with three different PL of MS at harvesting (i.e., long, medium, and short). Results demonstrated greater numbers of day-time meals (i.e., 07:30–19:00 h) when PL was decreased from long to medium (P < 0.05). Night-time (i.e., 19:00–06:30 h) changes in the feeding pattern included an increased amount of feed per meal (P < 0.05) and a tendency to increase eating time per meal (P < 0.10) in cows fed the short-PL diet. Lowering the PL of MS also lowered the selective consumption against physically effective fibre larger than 1.18 mm (peNDF> 1.18; P < 0.05) and in favour of fine particles (i.e., particles passing through 1.18 mm screen; P < 0.01). Decreasing PL of MS from long to medium and short increased daily DMI as well as the intake of energy and other nutrients contained in the diet including the amount of peNDF> 1.18 (P < 0.01). The decrease in the PL of the diet also was associated with increased milk protein and lactose yield and milk urea nitrogen (P < 0.05). The actual milk yield and fat-corrected milk were not affected by the diet (P > 0.10). Although lowering of the PL tended to increase daily milk energy output (P < 0.10), the ratio between energy milk output and the energy intake was linearly decreased (P < 0.01), indicating a lower milk efficiency for the lower-PL diets. In conclusion, particle length of MS in a TMR has the potential to modulate circadian feeding patterns, selective consumption of the feed, daily DMI, and milk composition in high-producing dairy cows.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to investigate the linear and quadratic effects of barley on volatile fatty acid (VFA) profile and manure ammonia emissions in pigs. Sixteen boars (66 kg) were assigned to one of four treatments (n = 4): (T1) 0 g/kg barley (control), (T2) 222 g/kg barley, (T3) 442 g/kg barley and (T4) 666 g/kg barley. Barley was substituted for wheat. The diets were formulated to contain similar concentrations of digestible energy and lysine, soya oil was adjusted to maintain net energy. Increasing barley levels caused a linear decrease in colonic (P < 0.01) and caecal pH (P < 0.001). Total caecal VFA and propionic acid were affected by dietary barley level (quadratic, < 0.05). There was a linear decrease in the proportion of acetic acid (P < 0.001), isobutyric acid (P < 0.01), isovaleric acid (P < 0.05) with increasing levels of barley in both the caecum and colon. There was a linear increase in the proportion of propionic acid (P < 0.001) and butyric acid (P < 0.05) with increasing barley in the colon. Barley based diets had a lower ammonia emission from 96 to 240 h (P < 0.05) and from 0 to 240 h (P < 0.05) than the wheat based diet. In conclusion, a high level of barley is required to reduce offensive branch chained VFAs.  相似文献

Seeing the fact that farm managers in Germany feed anionic salts to transition cows once daily, this study set out to evaluate whether the effects on the acid–base status (ABS) and calcium excretion in urine would persist throughout the entire day beyond this feeding practice. Eleven non-lactating, non-pregnant, Holstein–Friesian-cows with a rumen fistula were administered 2Eq of calcium chloride (CaCl2/five cows) or calcium sulfate (CaSO4/six cows) once daily for a period of 1 week. At day 7, blood and urine samples were taken every 4 h starting at 06:00 a.m. before feeding the anionic salts, and then ending at the same time the next day. Feeding anionic salts to the cows induced metabolic acidosis in both of the groups. The changes tended to be greater in CaCl2-cows. After 12 h, the acidosis lessened and the initial values were reached after 24 h. The CaCl2-cows, however, still showed signs of compensated metabolic acidosis. The results of the present study showed that feeding anionic salts once daily confined the risk of an interrupted effect of the anionic salts on the acid–base status as well as calcium metabolism after 12 h.  相似文献

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of feeding Borrena hirticulata (BH), Ficus hirta (FH), rice straw (RS) and concentrate-based total mixed ration (TMR) on nutrient utilization, rumen fermentation and growth in mithun. Growing male mithun calves were randomly allotted to 2 feeding groups (6 in each), TMR1 and TMR2. The TMRs consisted of RS 300 g kg− 1, concentrate 400 g kg− 1 and BH 300 g kg− 1 (TMR1) or FH 300 g kg− 1 (TMR2) on a dry matter (DM) basis. Both TMRs were fed ad libitum to the animals for 121 d and a digestibility study was conducted during the last 7 d of the experiment. To assess rumen fermentation, rumen fluid was collected at 2 h interval for 24 h. Apparent digestibility of DM, crude protein (CP) and crude fibre (CF) did not differ significantly between the TMRs. Nevertheless, apparent digestibility of ether extract was found to be significantly (< 0.01) greater in TMR2 (0.59) compared to TMR1 (0.54). Body weight gain (BWG; g d− 1), DM intake (kg d− 1), CP intake (g d− 1) and feed efficiency (kg feed kg− 1 gain) were found to be significantly (P < 0.05) greater in TMR1 (548, 5.14, 713 and 9.28) compared to TMR2 (496, 4.91, 703 and 10.03). An insignificant positive association (r = 0.35) between DM intake and BWG, but a significant (P < 0.01) positive association (r = 0.74) between CP intake and BWG were evident. Rumen pH (5.71 to 7.18) and ammonia-nitrogen (8.0 to 25.0 mg/dl) did not differ significantly between the TMRs, but differed significantly (P < 0.01) at different h post-feeding. In contrast, rumen total volatile fatty acid (42 to 105 mM) and total nitrogen (40.4 to 90.3 mg/dl) differed significantly (P < 0.05) between the TMRs and at different h post-feeding. The study revealed that BH, FH, RS and concentrate-based TMRs may be fed to mithun for satisfactory growth.  相似文献

Four growing pigs (initial liveweight 25.9 ± 0.54 kg, final liveweight 43.0 ± 1.06 kg) were used to study the effect of dietary lysine level on nutrient digestibility, whole-body protein turnover, plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), growth hormone (GH), insulin, glucose, and urea nitrogen (PUN). Four diets, containing 7.0 g (L1), 9.5 g (L2), 12.0 g (L3) and 14.5 g (L4) lysine per kg diet respectively, were formulated as experimental treatments. The animals and diets were allocated in a 4 × 4 Latin square design. Nitrogen (N) metabolism and whole-body protein turnover were measured by classical method and single-dose 15N end-product method, respectively. The blood samples were taken at the end of each experimental period. Results showed that N retention (NR) and N biological value (NBV) were significantly increased from L1 to L4 (P < 0.05). However, differences in NR and NBV between L2, L3 and L4 were not significant (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference on dry matter (DM) digestibility, organic matter (OM) digestibility and N digestibility between different treatments (P > 0.05). Whole-body protein synthesis, protein degradation and protein accretion increased markedly from L1 to L2 (P < 0.05), but did not increase further from L2 to L4. Whole-body protein accretion (y, g/kg W0.75/d) increased with dietary lysine (x, g/kg) in a quadratic manner: y = − 0.09x2 + 2.12x − 5.14 (r2 = 0.96, n = 4, P < 0.05).The results also showed that differences in plasma IGF-I, GH, glucose and PUN concentration between different treatments were not significant (P > 0.05). Plasma insulin concentration (y, μIU/ml) was increased with dietary lysine (x, g/kg) in a quadratic manner: y = 0.23x2 − 4.10x + 32.25 (r2 = 0.99, n = 4, P < 0.05), but it was not found that plasma insulin concentration was related to NR. A significant correlation was found between NR (y, g/d) and plasma IGF-I (x, ng/ml): y = − 3.1 × 10− 3x2 + 1.31x − 122.28 (r2 = 0.99, n = 4, P < 0.05).It was concluded that dietary lysine level had a significant influence on NR and whole-body protein turnover but not on plasma IGF-I and GH concentration. Plasma IGF-I may be an important factor controlling N metabolism of growing pigs. Further research was needed to study the mechanism.  相似文献
