A two-year-old female miniature poodle died unexpectedly while romping with its owner. Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the left pulmonic sinus was discovered at necropsy. Histologically, the right ventricle was unremarkable, but multifocal to coalescing necrosis and fibrosis occurred in the myocardium and endocardium of the left ventricle. Medial hypertrophy of small muscular pulmonary arteries was observed in the lung. The cardiac lesions were similar to those of children with anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary trunk. Pulmonary hypertension, which is suggested by the pulmonary arterial medial hypertrophy, could have increased left ventricular myocardial perfusion and delayed the ischemic myocardial damage that resulted in the death of this dog. 相似文献

This study describes a rare congenital coronary artery anomaly in the Syrian hamster; namely, the separate origin of the obtuse marginal and left circumflex arteries which are the main components of the left coronary artery. The hearts of nine affected animals were examined by means of a corrosion-cast technique and histology. The hamsters belonged to a laboratory inbred family with a high incidence of coronary artery anomalies and bicuspid aortic valve. The aortic valve was tricuspid in three hamsters and bicuspid in the other six hamsters. In all cases, the right coronary artery was normal, whereas the left coronary artery main trunk was absent. The present anomalous coronary artery patterns could be classified into two main entities: (i) ectopic origin of the obtuse marginal artery from the right aortic sinus or from the right coronary artery, with the left circumflex artery arising from the left side of the aortic valve; and (ii) ectopic origin of both the obtuse marginal artery from the right aortic sinus or from the right coronary artery and left circumflex artery from the dorsal aortic sinus. In all cases, the obtuse marginal artery coursed to the right side of the heart through the ventral wall of the right ventricular outflow tract. When the left circumflex artery arose from the dorsal aortic sinus, it formed an acute angle with the aortic wall. This report seems to be the first to describe the separate origin of the main components of the left coronary artery in a non-human mammalian species. In man, the congenital coronary artery and aortic valve defects reported herein may entail the risk of clinical complications. However, none of the affected hamsters showed signs of disease. 相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION: 4 dogs with acquired pulmonary artery stenosis (PAS) were examined for various clinical signs. One was a mixed-breed dog with congenital valvular PAS that subsequently developed peripheral PAS, one was a Golden Retriever with pulmonary valve fibrosarcoma, one was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi in which the left pulmonary artery had inadvertently been ligated during surgery for correction of patent ductus arteriosus, and one was a Boston Terrier with a heart-base mass compressing the pulmonary arteries. CLINICAL FINDINGS: All 4 dogs were evaluated with 2-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography to characterize the nature and severity of the stenoses; other diagnostic tests were also performed. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME: The mixed-breed dog with valvular and peripheral PAS was euthanized, surgical resection of the pulmonic valve mass was performed in the Golden Retriever, corrective surgery was performed on the Pembroke Welsh Corgi with left pulmonary artery ligation, and the Boston Terrier with the heart-base mass was managed medically. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Acquired PAS in dogs may manifest as a clinically silent heart murmur, syncope, or right-sided heart failure. The diagnosis is made on the basis of imaging findings, particularly results of 2-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography. Single right coronary artery (CA) associated with pulmonic stenosis was found in 3 English Bulldogs and a Boxer, suggesting a genetic predisposition for the associated anomalies. The left main coronary branch arose from the single right CA, encircled the pulmonic root over hypoplastic pulmonic valves at the level of the obstruction, and appeared to be the primary cause of underlying pulmonic stenosis. Patch-graft surgery to relieve pulmonic stenosis caused death in 1 dog when the unrecognized anomalous CA was served during the procedure. The anomalous left CA was detectable by use of angiocardiography in all 4 dogs and was recognized before surgery in 2 of them. In 1 dog, a right ventricle-to-pulmonary trunk-bridging conduit was implanted to improve outflow from the right side of the heart. 相似文献

A six-month-old female intact domestic shorthair cat was presented for evaluation of a loud heart murmur. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed dilation of the left ventricle secondary to an abnormal vessel shunting blood into the left ventricular outflow tract at a high velocity during diastole. Multidetector computed tomography angiography revealed a coronary cameral fistula that originated at the right coronary artery, encircled the heart, and then terminated into the left ventricular outflow tract. This case report documents the first known case of a coronary cameral fistula in a cat. Multimodal imaging was an essential aspect to diagnosing the congenital lesion in this case. 相似文献

After necropsy of the surviving turkeys in a comparative vaccine study for fowl cholera, in the turkeys with only one lung lobe consolidated, a significantly (P < 0.01, chi square test) higher number of turkeys were found with a consolidation of the left lung lobe than with the right lung lobe. When the circumferences of the left and right pulmonary arteries 0.5 cm rostral from the bifurcation were measured and converted to cross-sectional area, the left pulmonary artery had an average area of 29.6 +/- 2.8 mm2, and the right pulmonary artery had an average area of only 22.9 +/- 2.8 mm2, which was nearly one-fourth smaller. This finding suggests that the left lung lobe receives more blood than the right lobe and that, during an acute Pasteurella multocida septicemia, it would receive more of this organism than the right lung lobe. 相似文献

A total of 10 adult, healthy, male chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera) were used to investigate the origin, course, and termination of the coronary arteries. Coloured latex was injected into the carotid arteries following conventional anatomical applications. In all the chinchillas examined, the left coronary artery was the single coronary artery. The right coronary artery was missing. Additionally, a small vessel originating from the cranial border of the aorta was observed in one chinchilla. The left coronary artery divided into the paraconal, interventricular and left circumflex rami. The left marginis ventricular ramus arose from the paraconal interventricular ramus in eight chinchillas, and from the left circumflex ramus in two. The ventricular and septal branches of the left coronary artery ran subepicardially at the beginning mostly parallel to the muscle fibres, also surrounded by a thin adipose tissue. It was concluded that the only left coroner artery supplied blood to the heart in the chinchilla. 相似文献

Despite the ability to prevent heartworm disease, infection with Dirofilaria immitis continues to be a major problem for domestic dogs. To determine worm burden in heartworm-positive dogs from three county animal shelters in the state of Michigan in the United States and to assess the relationship between gross intimal proliferation and worm burden, necropsy was done on 176 heartworm-positive dogs. Adult heartworms were found in the heart and pulmonary artery of 170 of the 176 (96.6%) dogs examined. Mean worm burden was 14 +/- 13 (range 0-85). Fifty-nine percent of dogs had < or =10 heartworms. In contrast, 52% of dogs in a published report from the southern US (Florida) had worm burdens >10 [C.H. Courtney, Q.Y. Zeng, The structure of heartworm populations in dogs and cats in Florida, in: Proceedings of the American Heartworm Symposium, 1989]. These data suggest that mean worm burden in northern areas may be < or = that in warmer areas. Also, since diagnostic tests are less sensitive with lower worm burdens, diagnosis of heartworm infection in Michigan and other surrounding more northern states may be a greater challenge than in areas with higher worm burdens. 相似文献

Unilateral absence of the left or right pulmonary artery with concurrent contralateral pulmonary arterial branch stenoses is an exceptionally rare disorder. We describe this anomaly in a cat with severe exercise intolerance and respiratory distress. Transthoracic echocardiography and angiography demonstrated the absence of the left pulmonary artery with concurrent right pulmonary branch stenosis. Palliative balloon angioplasty of the right pulmonary artery substantially reduced right ventricular systolic pressure load and alleviated the patient's clinical signs. 相似文献

Eight right cranial lobes of healthy Friesian calves were suspended in an airtight box. They were inflated at a constant transpulmonary pressure (Ptp) and ventilated from the outside by modifying pressures in the box with a quasi-sinusoidal pump at a frequency of 30 counts per minute. Peak-to-peak changes were 0.5 kPa. Lobar resistance (Rl) was partitioned into three components: central airway resistance (Rc), small airway resistance (Rp) and tissue resistance (Rt). Partitioning of R1 was realised at six different lung volumes. Minimal R1 was observed for a value of Ptp between 0.5 and 0.7 kPa. At a Ptp of 0.5 kPa, Rc, Rp, Rt represent 30, 15 and 55 per cent of R1, respectively. Lobar resistance increases at high and low lung volumes. Small airway resistance is small and independent of the level of lung inflation, except at low lung volumes where a marked increase is observed. Tissue resistance is relatively high and responsible for the increase of R1 at high lung volumes. Central airway resistance does not change significantly with lung volumes. 相似文献

The plasma concentration profiles of four randomly chosen ivermectin (IVM) generic formulations (IVM G1-G4) were compared after their subcutaneous (SC) administration to healthy calves. The disposition of other avermectin-type endectocide compounds, doramectin (DRM) and abamectin (ABM), was also assessed in the same pharmacokinetic trial. Forty-two parasite-free Aberdeen Angus male calves were randomly allocated into six treatment groups. Animals in each group (n = 7) received SC treatment (200 microg/kg) with one of the commercially available endectocide formulation used in the trial. Blood samples were taken into heparinised vacutainer tubes from the jugular vein prior to and up to 35 days post-treatment. The recovered plasma was analysed by HPLC with fluorescence detection. Large kinetic differences were observed among the DRM, ABM and IVM formulations under evaluation. The DRM plasma concentration profiles were higher than those measured for ABM and all the IVM generic formulations. The higher and sustained plasma concentrations of DRM accounted for greater area under concentration-time curve (AUC) and longer mean residence time (MRT) values compared to those obtained for both ABM and the IVM generic preparations. The pattern of IVM absorption from the site of subcutaneous administration showed differences among the generic formulations under evaluation. The IVM G2 preparation showed higher peak plasma concentration and AUC values (P < 0.05) compared to those obtained after the administration of the IVM G1 formulation. Longer (P < 0.05) MRT values were obtained after the administration of the IVM G3 compared to other IVM generic preparations. The kinetic behaviour of ABM did not show significant differences with that described for most of the IVM formulations. This study demonstrates that major differences on drug kinetic behaviour may be observed when using different endectocide injectable formulations in cattle. 相似文献
