Abstract

Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) plants were grown in the greenhouse and supplied continuously with 18 mM N in the following NH+ 4:NO? 3 ratios: 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100. At commercial maturity, the plant characteristics and partitioning of nitrogen in xylem and phloem saps and in plant tissue were determined. Plants fed solely with NH+ 4 were stunted, exhibited signs of marginal necrosis on the lower leaves, and accumulated NH+ 4 in the foliage. The maximum yield and shortest harvest time, together with minimal NO? 3 and NH+ 4 accumulation were found at a ratio of 75:25. Ammonium concentrations in xylem sap decreased linearly with decreasing NH+ 4 portion in the nutrient solution, whereas the NO? 3 concentrations reached a maximum when NO? 3 constituted 50% of the N supply. The glutamate family dominated the amino acid composition of both xylem and phloem saps, but did not vary much with NH+ 4:NO? 3 ratio. It is suggested that the NH+ 4 concentration in xylem sap may be used to assess NH+ 4 vs NO? 3 utilization by broccoli grown under field conditions.  相似文献

The influence of three potassium:rubidium (K:Rb) ratios (6:0, 5:1, and 4:2) on the xylematic transport of solutes in cucumber plants cv. Medusa supplied with both nitrate (NO3 ) (60%) and ammonium (NH4 +) (40%) was studied in greenhouse conditions. In the xylem sap of plants grown with a K:Rb ratio of 4:2, there was an increase in the transport of NO3 , phosphate (H2PO4 ), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+), manganese (Mn) and boron (B) while that of organic‐N, organic‐P, K+, zinc (Zn), organic acids, and carbohydrates decreased, if compared with the sap of the plants supplied with K alone. The translocation of NO3 , H2PO4 , Ca2+, Mg2+, and Mn was enhanced and that of K+ and organic acids decreased when the plants were supplied with a K:Rb ratio of 5:1. The K:Rb ratio detected in the xylem sap was the same K:Rb ratio as in the solutions. However, in the cucumber plant substituting 33% of total K by Rb resulted in an alteration in the transport of solutes, probably due to a competition between Rb and K rather than between the latter two and NH4 +.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) availability on root exudate composition of two sugarcane cultivars known to differ with regard to their resistance to drought and salinity stress. The plants were hydroponically grown in a greenhouse and subjected to three levels of N (0.1, 1.0, and 10 mM N) and three levels of K (0.02, 0.2, and 2 mM K). Nitrogen and K stress altered the xylem sap composition. Nitrogen stress significantly reduced nitrate (NO3 ?), ammonium (NH4 +), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and amino acid content and increased the pH, phosphorus (P), and K content. Whereas, K stress significantly decreased pH, K, NH4 +, and amino acid content but increased Ca, Mg, and P content. Nitrogen and K stress had opposing effects on xylem sap pH and osmolality. Results indicated that sugarcane plants recycle compounds between the phloem and xylem. The results also suggested that the NO3 ? and K concentration of xylem sap could be effectively used to estimate the N and K status of the soil solution.  相似文献

Zucchini squash (Cucurbita pepo L. cv. Green Magic) plants were grown hydroponically with nitrate (NO3):ammonium (NH4) ratio of 3:1 until the onset of flowering when the plants were assigned to four NO3:NH4 ratio (1:0, 1:1, 1:3, or 3:1) treatments. Changing the original nitrogen (N) form ratio significantly affected plant growth, fruit yield, nutrient element, and water uptake. Growth of plants was better when NO3‐N (1:0) was the sole form of N than when NH4‐N was part of the N treatment. Fruit yields for plants fertilized with 1:0 or 1:3 N‐form ratio were double those of plants grown continuously with 3:1 N ratio. The largest leaf area and plant water use were obtained with 1:0 N ratio treatment Total uptake of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K) decreased with increasing NH4‐N proportion in the nutrient solution which suggest NH4‐N was competing with these cations for uptake. The results also demonstrated that growers may increase fruit yield by using a predominantly NO3‐N source fertilizer through the vegetative growth stage and by shifting the NO3:NH4 ratio during the reproductive phase.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of chloride (Cl) and reduced forms of nitrogen (N) on the nitrate (NO3), total N, and Cl concentrations in onion (Allium cepa L.) plants using a non‐recirculating nutrient film growing system. The reference treatment was a nutrient solution containing 19 mM NO3 and 1.25 mM ammonium (NH4). The results from this treatment were compared with that obtained using mixed amino acid, urea, and glycine treatments with or without additional Cl (10 mM) in which 20% of the NO3 in the reference treatment was substituted with one of these reduced forms of N. Fresh and dry weights of the onion plants were not affected by the treatments. The NO3 content was considerably lower in the mixed amino acid treatment, being 4236 mg NO3/kg FW as compared to either the reference, urea, or glycine treatments. The NO3 contents of the plants in these treatments were 5393, 5339, and 5261 mg NO3/kg FW, respectively. The presence of Cl in the nutrient solution also reduced the NO3 content of the plants from 5816 to 4299 mg NO3/kg FW. The reduced‐N treatments increased the total N contents of the plants. The Cl content of the plants was increased by the Cl supplied and by the reduced forms of N in the nutrient solution.  相似文献

Comparative physiological studies on iron (Fe) chlorosis of Vicia faba L. and Helianthus annuus L. were carried out. High internal Fe contents in Vicia cotyledons (16–37 μg) were completely used for plant growth and Fe chlorosis was not inducible by the application of nitrate (with or without bicarbonate). In Helianthus, low quantities of Fe in the seeds (4 μg) were insufficient for normal growth and without Fe in the nutrient solution, Fe chlorosis was obtained in all treatments. This chlorosis was an absolute Fe deficiency. Also, the treatment with 1 μM Fe in the nutrient solution and nitrate (with or without bicarbonate) led to severe chlorotic symptoms associated with low leaf Fe concentrations and high Fe concentrations in the roots. In contrast, Helianthus grown with NH4NO3 and 1 μM Fe had green leaves and high leaf Fe concentrations. However, with NO3 supply (with or without bicarbonate), Fe translocation from the roots to the upper plant parts was restricted and leaves were chlorotic. Chlorotic and green sunflower leaves may have the same Fe concentrations, leaf Fe concentration being dependent on Fe translocation into the leaf at the various pH levels in the nutrient solution. At low external pH levels (controlled conditions) more Fe was translocated into the leaf leading to similar leaf Fe concentrations with higher chlorophyll concentrations (NH4NO3) and with lower chlorophyll concentrations (NO3). This indicates a lower utilization of leaf Fe of NO3 grown sunflower plants. Utilization of Fe in faba bean leaves is presumably higher than in sunflower leaves. In Vicia xylem sap pH was not affected by nitrate. In contrast, the xylem sap pH in Helianthus was permanently increased by about 0.4 pH units when fed with nitrate (with or without bicarbonate) compared with NH4NO3 nutrition. The xylem sap pH is indicative of leaf apoplast pH. From our earlier work (Mengel et al., 1994; Kosegarten und Englisch, 1994) we therefore suppose that in Helianthus, Fe immobilization occurs in the leaf apoplast due to high pH levels when grown with nitrate (with or without bicarbonate).  相似文献

Artichoke plants (Cynara scolymus L.) were grown in a growth chamber in a modified Hoagland solution for seven weeks to determine the influence of ammonium:nitrate (NH4:NO3) ratio (100:0, 70:30, 30:70 and 0:100) on growth, water use, and the uptake of nitrogen (N) and inorganic anions and cations. Typical pH changes were recorded: the nutrient solution became acidified with NH4 or NH4:NO3 nutrition; pH increased when NO3 was the only N source. Ammonium‐fed plants (100:0 ratio) were stunted, with signs of marginal leaf necrosis, progressive wilting of leaves and poor root growth. After 49 days, leaf area was 77, 998, 2,415, and 1,700 cm2 and dry weight was 1.0, 12.9, 38.0, and 26.0 g/plant, with NH4:NO3 100:0, 70:30, 30:70, and 0:100, respectively. Leaf area ratio (LAR) was lower in plants supplied solely with NO3 than in those with mixed NH4‐NO3. Increasing NO3‐N percentage in the nutrient solution increased water use efficiency (WUE): 623, 340, and 243 mL of water were necessary to produce 1 g of dry matter in 100:0, 70:30, 30:70 or 0:100 NH4:NO3 ratio, respectively. Increasing NO3 from 0 to 100% of the total N supplied in the nutrient solution, the shoot content of inorganic cations increased on an equivalent basis by 30% and organic anions (estimated by the difference between inorganic anions and inorganic cations) increased by 2.3 times. These results suggest that leaves are the most important site of NO3 assimilation in artichoke. By increasing NH4 percentage in the nutrient solution, the tissue content of inorganic anions was generally increased, except for NO3, and the same figure was observed for the percentage of reduced N. Results from this study suggest that NO3 is the N‐form preferred by artichoke.  相似文献

Abstract

Nitrogen‐form effect on nutrient uptake and the subsequent concentration of nutrients in turfgrass plant tissue has not been thoroughly investigated. This study evaluated the effects of clipping regime and N‐form on the tissue concentration of macronutrients and micronutrients and macronutrient uptake in ‘Penncross’ creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.). Turfgrass plugs were grown under greenhouse conditions in a modified Hoagland's solution with a combination of three nutrient solutions (100% NO3 ?, 100% NH4 +, and 50:50 ratio of NH4 +:NO3 ?) and two cutting regimes (cut and uncut). Concentrations of macronutrients and micronutrients were determined for shoot, root and verdure. Nutrient uptake was determined weekly. Uncut NO3 ?‐treated plants accumulated higher concentrations of K, Ca, Mg, B and Cu in the shoot tissue; P, K, Ca, Mg, B, Cu, Mn and Zn in the root tissue; and P, Ca, Mg, B, Fe and Mn in the verdure compared to uncut NN4 +‐treated plants. Nitrate uptake was greater with uncut NO3 ?‐treated plants than was NH4 + absorption with uncut NH4 +‐treated plants. Plants grown with the uncut 50:50 treatment adsorbed more NH4 + than NO3 ?. Plants grown with the uncut NO3 ? and 50:50 treatments adsorbed higher amounts of P, K, and Ca compared to the NH4 + treatment. The cut NO3 ?‐treated plants accumulated higher concentrations of K in the shoot tissue; P, Ca, Mg, B, Cu, Fe and Mn in the root tissue; and B in the verdure than did the cut NH4 +‐treated plants. Cut NO3 ?‐treated plants adsorbed less NO3 ? than did cut NH4 +‐treated plants adsorbed NH4 +. The cut 50:50 treatment adsorbed more NH4 + than NO3 ?. Plants grown with NO3 ? and 50:50 treatments, under both cutting regimes, resulted in higher concentrations of most macro‐ and micronutrients and greater nutrient uptake compared to the NH4 +‐treated plants.  相似文献

Chickpea plants (Cicer arietinum L cv. ILC 195) were grown for 24 days in water culture under two regimes of nitrogen nutrition (NO3 or NH4‐N) with or without Fe. For plants fed with NO3‐N, Fe stress severely depressed fresh weight accumulation and chlorotic symptoms of Fe‐deficiency developed rapidly. Little difference in growth occurred in the NH4‐fed plants, whether or not Fe was withheld, with no visual evidence of Fe‐deficiency indicating a beneficial effect of NH4 in depressing the symptoms of Fe chlorosis. Typical pH changes were measured in the nutrient solution of the control plants in relation to nitrogen supply, increasing with NO3 and decreasing with NH4‐nutrition. With both forms of nitrogen, plants acidified the nutrient solution in response to Fe‐stress. Under NH4‐nutrition, acidification was enhanced by withholding Fe. In the NO3‐fed plants the uptake of all nutrients was reduced by the stress but proportionally NO3‐ and K+ were most affected. Total anion uptake was depressed more than that of cation uptake. For the NH4‐fed plants withholding Fe resulted in an increased uptake of all ions except NH4 + which was depressed. Regardless of the form of N‐supply, when Fe was withheld from the nutrient solution the net H+ efflux calculated from the (C‐A) uptake values was closely balanced by the OH” added to the nutrient solution to compensate for the pH changes. Evidence of accumulation of organic acids in the Fe‐stressed plants was found, especially in the NO3‐fed plants, indicating a role for these internally produced anion charges in balancing cation charge in relation to the depression of NO3 uptake associated with Fe‐stress.  相似文献

Studies on the effects of salinity and nitrogen (N) fertilization on ionic balance, biomass, and organic N production of annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) were conducted. Plants grown in sand were irrigated with nutrient solution with an electrical conductivity of 2 or 11.2 dS#lbm‐1, and N in the form of sodium nitrate (NaNO3), ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), or ammonium sulfate [(NH4)2SO4] ranging from 0.5 to 9.0 mM. Salinity increased the concentration of total inorganic cations (C) in plants and specifically sodium (Na) by more than 3‐fold higher in plants grown at high salinity as compared with plants at low salinity. Sodium (Na) concentration in roots was higher than in shoots irrespective of the salinity level, suggesting a restriction of Na transport from roots to shoots. The concentration of total inorganic anions (A) increased with salinity and when plants were supplied with nitrate (NO3), salinity increased the concentrations of NO3 and chloride (Cl) in plants. Increasing salinity and N concentration in the growth medium increased organic anions concentration in plants, estimated as the difference between C and A. The effect of different N sources on C‐A followed the order: NH4NO3 > NO3 > ammonium (NH4). The base of organic anions and inorganic ions with salinity contributed significantly to the osmotic potential of plants shoots and roots. Changes in C affected N and organic acids metabolism in plants, since C were highly correlated (p=0.0001) with C‐A and organic N (Norg) concentrations regardless of the salinity level or N source in the nutrient solutions. A high and positive linear dependency was found between Norg and C‐A in plants grown at high and low salinity levels and different N sources, pointing out the close relationship between Norg and organic anions on metabolism under these conditions. The amount of biomass produced was correlated positively with organic anion concentration in plants exposed to different salinity levels. Plant biomass increased with N concentration in the nutrient solution regardless of the salinity level applied. Biomass accumulation decreased while Norg concentration increased with salinity. Organic N content remained unaffected in plants exposed to salinity when grown in N less than 9.0 mM.  相似文献

Abstract

The form of nutrient solution nitrogen (either NH4‐N or NO3‐N or mixtures of the two) provided to plants influences the severity of many crop diseases. This greenhouse study was conducted to determine how growth, grain yield, and yield components of oat (Avena sativa L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants given nutrient solutions containing different ratios of NO3‐N to NH4‐N would react to barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) infection. Fifteen‐day‐old seedlings (2nd leaf stage) were either infected with BYDV (PAV strain) or left uninfected. Nutrient solution treatments (started 19 d after germination) provided three ratios of NO3‐N to NH4‐N (100% NO3, 50:50 NH4:NO3, or 100% NH4) for a 30‐d period, after which plant height and tillers plant?1 were measured. Oat and wheat plants given NH4 had fewer tillers than plants given the other nutrient solution treatments. BYDV‐infected oat and wheat plants were shorter than uninfected plants. All pots then received NO3 nutrient solution until plant maturity, after which days to anthesis, primary tiller height, grain yield and yield components were measured. In the NH4 nutrient solution treatments, BYDV infection significantly reduced individual kernel weight in oat and primary tiller height in wheat. These same measures were not significantly affected by BYDV infection in the NO3 or NH4NO3 nutrient solution treatments. There were no other significant nutrient solution by BYDV infection interactions for any other dependent variable measured. Nutrient solution treatments had no significant effect on grain yield, but BYDV infection reduced grain yield by 45% in oat and 46% in wheat. In conclusion, nutrient solution N form interacted with BYDV infection to alter disease tolerance in oat (kernel weight) and wheat (primary tiller height), but these alterations had no effect in ameliorating grain yield loss caused by BYDV disease.  相似文献

Under conditions of salt stress, plants show qualitative and quantitative alterations in various organic compounds, such as nitrogen (N) compounds and organic acids. In this work, the effect of different saline levels as well as various N levels, supplied as nitrate (NO3) or as ammonium (NH4)+NO3 on the concentration of amino acids and organic acids in the leaves of tomato and cucumber plants has been studied. The effect of the source of N on individual amino acid contents varied with plant species. Most of the amino acids increased when the concentration of N in the nutrient solution was increased, except when N was added as NH4+NO3 for tomato. The effect of salt stress depended on which amino acid was considered. The data also indicate that the effect of salinity on each particular amino acid was greatly dependent on the plant species and N source. Organic acids were differently affected by salinity and by the N source, depending on the plant species. In tomato, the concentrations of short‐chain organic acids were 2–3 times higher in NO3‐supplied plants than in those grown with NH4+NO3. Finally, in cucumber, malic acid concentration increased as a function of the saline level in the medium.  相似文献

We investigated the interacting effects of inorganic nitrogen and the main inorganic phosphorus form in dairy manure (dicalcium phosphate, CaHPO4) on growth, nutrient uptake, and rhizosphere pH of young maize plants. In a pot experiment, three levels of CaHPO4 (0, 167, and 500 mg P pot?1) were combined with nitrogen (637 mg N pot?1) applied at five NH4‐N : NO3‐N ratios (0 : 100, 25 : 75, 50 : 50, 75 : 25, and 100 : 0) and a nitrification inhibitor in a concentrated layer of a typical acid sandy soil from Denmark. 15N‐labeled NH4‐N was applied to differentiate the role of nitrification and to partition nitrogen uptake derived from NH4‐N. Among treatments including nitrogen, shoot biomass, rooting and phosphorus uptake were significantly higher at the five‐leaf stage when CaHPO4 was applied with NH4‐N : NO3‐N ratios of 50 : 50 and 75 : 25. In these treatments, rhizosphere pH dropped significantly in direct proportion with NH4‐N uptake. The fertilizers in the concentrated layer had a root‐inhibiting effect in treatments without phosphorus supply and in treatments with pure NO3‐N or NH4‐N supply. Increased nitrogen uptake as NH4‐N instead of NO3‐N reduced rhizosphere pH and enhanced acquisition of applied CaHPO4 by young maize plants, which may have positive implications for the enhanced utilization of manure phosphorus.  相似文献

The influx and partitioning of sodium (Na) is controlled by potassium (K)/Na selectivity/exchange mechanisms. Since ammonium‐nitrogen (NH4‐N) has been shown to inhibit K absorption and K/Na selectivity/exchange mechanisms control Na influx and partitioning, our objective was to observe if NH4‐N affects Na influx and partitioning in muskmelon. Muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) were grown in a pH controlled nutrient solution with 100 mM NaCl in a complete nutrient solution containing either 10 mM nitrate‐nitrogen (NO3‐N) or NH4‐N. With NH4‐N, Na accumulation and partitioning to the leaf blade increased while K absorption was almost completely inhibited. A second study omitted K to simulate the inhibition of K absorption by NH4‐N and monitored Na accumulation and partitioning as K was depleted in the plant. Sodium accumulation and partitioning to the leaf increased as K decreased in the plant, mirroring the effect of NH4‐N. Roots appeared healthy in both studies. Our work indicates that at a given level of NaCl stress, NO3‐N reduces the level of stress experienced by muskmelon plants through reducing the net rate of Na influx and transport to the sensitive leaf blade, not by reducing chloride (Cl) absorption, thereby permitting these plants to “avoid”; this stress.  相似文献

Abstract

In a pot experiment, the effects of NO3‐N and NH4‐N fertilizer were examined on the pH of the bulk soil and rhizosphere, and on the growth and nutrient uptake of 18–35‐d old bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) supplied with KH2PO4 or rock phosphate (Hyperphos). Prior to sowing, the soil was incubated for 16 d to ensure complete nitrification of NH4‐N which decreased bulk soil pH from 6.8 to 5.5. In other pots, a nitrification inhibitor, N‐Serve, was added together with the ammonium fertilizer and after 18 d growth, the pH of the bulk soil was 6.6 while the pH of the rhizosphere decreased to 4.5. Shoot and root dry matter yield was significally greater for plants supplied with KH2PO4 and fertilized with NH4‐N compared with NO3‐N. This increased growth by NH4‐N fed plants was presumably due to a increased nutrient availability caused by the acidification of the bulk soil. Shoot concentrations of ? and micronutrients, such as Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu, were higher for plants supplied with NH4‐N, and more strikingly were higher for plats supplied with NH4‐N+N‐Serve when expressed on a root length basis. In this latter case, the increased nutrient acquisition by plants could only be due to acidification of the rhizopshere. The inhibitory effect of NH4‐N+N‐Serve, particularly on root growth, was not caused by NH4+ toxicity, but was due to a direct effect of N‐Serve as shown by growth comparisons with another nitrification inhibitor, dicyanodiamide (DCD).  相似文献

The effect of NH4NO3 (control) and increasing NO3- levels in nutrient solutions containing no and 100 μM Fe respectively on iron chlorosis of Glycine max was investigated. After two weeks of growth apoplastic pH in excised leaves was measured by means of fluorescence. In plants growing without Fe supply increasing concentrations of NO3- in the nutrient solution which also was applied to the cut end of the petiole, resulted in a pH increase in the leaf apoplast from 5.34 (NH4NO3) to 5.50 (NO3-) associated with chlorosis observed with intact plants. A close negative correlation was found between chlorophyll concentration and pH in the apoplast (r = ?0.97). While leaves in the treatment exclusively fed with NO3- were strongly chlorotic, those in the NH4NO3 treatment were green. With exception of the plants only fed with NO3- the Fe concentration in the leaves was not affected by the type of N nutrition. It is therefore assumed that some Fe is immobilized in the leaf tissue by high apoplast pH induced by an increase in the proportion of nitrate in the nutrient solution. Plants fed with Fe (100 μM) showed no chlorosis, regardless of the form of N nutrition and hence regardless of apoplast pH. The Fe concentration in leaves of Fe fed plants was approximately twice those in the leaves not supplied with Fe.  相似文献

The influence of two N sources, NO3 alone and NH4+NO3 (2:1) in the external medium on fluxes of Cl, N, Na and K calculated from the total nutrient content per unit root dry weight, were investigated using cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seedlings grown in saline conditions. The N source affected the fluxes of the above ions very differently: (a) when only NO3 was added, the rate of Cl uptake was inhibited whereas the rate of K absorption was stimulated; and (b) by contrast, the presence of NH, in the N source enhanced Cl uptake and inhibited K uptake. The effect on the rates of Na and N uptake was more complex and salinity dependent. The potassium: sodium ratios (K:Na) and potassium: sodium selectivity ratio (S., ) in roots and shoots in relation with the treatments are also presented. Possible reasons of the N source effect on the processes implicated with the response of plants to salinity are also discussed.  相似文献

Tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv NC82) were supplied with (NH4)2SO4, or NH4Cl at root‐zone pH of 6.0 and 4.5 in hydroponic culture for 28 days. Dry matter accumulation, total N and C content, and leaf area and number were not affected by the NH4 + source or root‐zone pH. Plants supplied with NH4C1 accumulated up to 1.2 mM Cl g DW‐1, but accumulated 37% less inorganic H2PO4 and 47% less SO4 2‐ than plants supplied with (NH)2SO4. The large Cl accumulation resulted in NH4C1 –supplied plants having a 31% higher inorganic anion (NO3 , H2, PO4 , SO4 2‐, and Cl) charge. This higher inorganic anion charge in the NH4C1‐supplied plants was balanced by a similar increase in K+ charge. Plants supplied with NH4Cl accumulated greater concentrations of Cl in leaves (up to 5.1% of DW) than plants supplied with (NH4)2SO4 (less than ‐% DW). Despite the high Cl concentration of leaves in NH4Cl supplied plants, these plants showed no symptoms of Cl toxicity. This demonstrates that toxicity symptoms are not due solely to an interaction between high Cl concentration in tissue and NH4 + nutrition. The increase in root‐zone acidity to pH 4.5 from 6.0 did not induce toxicity symptoms.  相似文献

Maize plants, grown for 7 and 21 days on a nutrient solution with NO3 as the sole nitrogen source showed a clear diurnal pattern with respect to the in vivo NRA. Especially in roots dark/light fluctuations of the enzyme activity were high. Also in NO3 uptake, OH efflux and endogenous content of water soluble carbohydrates a diurnal variation was found. The plant age did not significantly affect the daily rhythm.

Because day/night changes of the in vivo root NRA and nitrate uptake were proportional, the relative content of reduced N in the xylem sap of the plants was constant during a day/night interval. At both day 7 and day 21 about 40–50% of the N was transported via the xylem as amino N. As a result of non‐synchronous variation of the specific root and shoot NRA, root reduction capacity showed a great within‐day variation. It varied between 20 and 40% of the whole plant reduction capacity. Since the ratio N‐organic to N‐total in the xylem sap was about 0.5, cycling of organic nitrogen was very likely in these maize plants.  相似文献

Pepper plants were hydroponically grown in a growth chamber with two levels of light intensity (300 and 240 w/m2 ) and two N03:NH4 ratios (100:0 and 80:20). Plants supplied with both N forms (80:20) under high light conditions showed a decrease of nutrient uptake and produced low plant weight and yield compared to the all NO3 treated plants. By contrast, plants receiving both N forms (80:20) with light reduced over 25% showed a growth and yield slightly superior to plants supplied with N03 as sole source of N. This suggests a significant light intensity‐N form interaction that favors all NO3 nutrition for pepper at high light intensities.  相似文献
