Brassica alboglabra plants were first grown aeroponically with full nutrients under full sunlight with average midday photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of 1200 μmol m?2 s?1. Thirty days after transplanting, plants were respectively, subjected to 10 days of average midday PPFD of 1200 (control, L1), 600 (L2) and 300 μmol m?2 s?1 (L3). Productivity, photosynthetic CO2 assimilation and stomatal conductance were significantly lower in low-light (L2 and L3) plants than in high-light (L1) plants. Low light plants had the highest nitrate (NO3?) accumulation in the petioles. Low light also had an inverse effect total reduced N content. After different light treatments, all plants were re-exposed to another 10 days of full sunlight. Low-light plants demonstrated their ability to recover their photosynthetic rate, enhance productivity and reduce the NO3? concentration. These results have led to the recommendation of not harvesting this popular vegetable during or immediately after cloudy weather conditions.  相似文献

The effect of nitrogen (30 and 120 mg N per cuvette) on photosynthetic rate of four cultivars of triticale (‘Bolero’, ‘Grado’, ‘Largo’, and ‘Lasko’) grown 14 days in phytotron was strongly modified by water content (75, 45 and 35% of full water capacity). For plants grown under 35% of full water capacity, it was higher when they were grown under 30 than under 120 mg N/cuvette (9.88 and 8.76 μmol CO2 m?2 s?1, respectively) but for plants grown under 45 and 75% of full water capacity there were not significant differences. Transpiration, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic water use efficiency, and internal water use efficiency were not influenced by nitrogen doses independently of water content. Photosynthetic rate, transpiration, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic water use efficiency, and dry matter of studied cultivars of triticale grown under 45 and 35% of full water capacity and both nitrogen doses were lower than for plants grown under 75% of full water capacity. With lowering of water content stomatal conductance was decreasing similarly as photosynthetic rate e.g. for plants grown under 35% of full water capacity as compared with those grown under 75% of full water capacity average stomatal conductance decreased from 0.209 to 0.138 mol H2O m?2 s?1 and photosynthetic rate from 13.69 to 9.32 μmol CO2 m?2 s?1 and as a result there were not significant differences in internal water use efficiency for all studied combinations (67.09 μmol CO2 mol?1 H2O) which shows that stomatal factors were mainly responsible for changes of photosynthetic rate. With lowering of water content from 75 to 35% of full water capacity the decrease of photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance was much higher than the decreases of transpiration (from 3.57 to 3.02 mmol H2O m?2 s?1) what shows not direct dependence of transpiration on stomatal conductance (water use efficiency decreased from 3.87 to 3.10 μmol CO2 mmol?1 H2O). The effect of nitrogen on dry matter production was strongly modified by water availability e.g. for plants grown under 35% of full water capacity, dry matter was similarly independent of nitrogen dose but for plants grown under 45 and 75% of full water capacity dry matter was significantly higher than when they were grown under 120 (79.05 and 86.75 mg, respectively) or with 30 mg N/cuvette (74.03 and 80.30 mg, respectively).  相似文献

Irradiance level is a limiting factor for plant growth, especially in a greenhouse. A bacterial fertilizer was applied to test its role on cucumber seedlings to overcome low light intensity. Five light intensity levels of 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 μmol? m?2s?1 were used. The results revealed that the bacterial fertilizer can stimulate nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) uptake at 400 and 600 μmol? m?2s?1 and phosphorus (P) uptake except for 800 μmol? m?2s?1. Nitrogen, P, and K in soils were highly improved at various light intensities. The effect of promoting iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) was stronger in roots than in shoots. The significant improvements of chlorophyll, carotinoid, soluble sugar, and photosynthesis rate were also observed. The bacterial fertilizer increased plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, fresh and dry weight except for the decline of height at 100 and 200 μmol? m?2s?1. The sharp decline or increase occurred mostly at the light intensity of 400 μmol? m?2s?1.  相似文献

We have previously reported that full sun‐grown Heliconia "Golden Torch”; leaves exhibited sustained decreased in PS II efficiency as compared to those grown under shade conditions. In this study, full sunlight plus low level of fertilization caused a further reduction of photosynthesis, chlorophyll content and Fv/Fm ratio while plants grown at high level of nutrient showed higher values of all these parameters. When plants grown under intermediate and deep shade, there was no significant difference in all parameters irrespective of nutrient supply. In the recovery experiments, plants without fertilizer were re‐fertilized weekly. Maximal photosynthetic rates, chlorophyll content, and Fv/Fm ratio increased gradually after re‐fertilizing the plants grown under full sunlight. However, no significant changes of these parameters were observed in plants grown under intermediate and deep shade over the same period. Total leaf nitrogen (N) was measured parallel with all the parameters. Photosynthetic rates, chlorophyll content, and Fv/Fm ratio showed a clear linear correlation with total leaf N in plants grown under full sunlight while there was no clear relationship observed in those plants grown under intermediate and deep shade. These results suggest that acclimation of Heliconia under full sunlight could be achieved by high level of nutrient fertilization.  相似文献

This trial was carried out to study the evolution of the nutrient parameters of the nutrient solution applied to tomato plants (Lycopersicum sculentum Mill. Forteza) cultivated in Mediterranean greenhouse conditions under different fertigation management models. The dynamic model is based on soil water content, which was measured by tensiometers, and on soil solutions obtained with suction cups (porous ceramic cup water samplers). The local traditional method consists of following technical recommendations, and the classical model requires the estimation of Crop Factor (Kc) and knowing the nutrient extraction. Nutrient solution and water applied are functions of the fertigation management criteria. The water used for fertigation was classified as C4-S3 according to the Riverside classification system. The cultivation period lasted from 15 August to 20 April. The nutrient parameters studied in nutrient and soil solution were pH, electrical conductivity (EC), nitrate (NO3 ?), phosphate (H2PO4 ?), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), sodium (Na+), and chloride (Cl?). The pH shows similar trends under the different treatments. Electrical conductivity is in the range of 2.8–4.5 dS m?1. Chloride, sodium, magnesium, and sulfate are exclusively modified by the salt concentration in the irrigation water, so it can be assumed that the three treatments vary equally. Nitrate, potassium, phosphate, and calcium are modified depending on each fertigation management method. Soil solution is modified by the nutrient solution applied. Dynamic management allows low nutrient concentration in the nutrient solution to be maintained and keeps soil nutrient concentration low, reducing fertilizer losses and therefore aquifer contamination.  相似文献

Abstract

Tomato plants were grown in sand culture with NH+ 4, and NO? 3, forms of N and three levels of light. Plants supplied with NH+ 4, nutrition under high light intensity had symptoms of stunting, leaf roll, wilting, interveinal chlorosis of the older leaves, and one third the dry weight of N03‐fed plants. In contrast, growth of plants receiving NH+ 4, nutrition under shade appeared normal although dry weight was reduced. NH4‐N nutrition suppressed K, Ca and Mg accumulation in tissues and increased P contents as compared to NO3‐N nutrition.  相似文献

Forty-two-day-old wheat (Triticum aestivum L. var. Asakazekomugi) plants were treated with complete, K-free (—K), Ca-limited (—Ca), and Mg-free (—Mg) nutrient solutions for 10 days using 2 mM NH4NO3 as the nitrogen source, which was replaced with 4 mM 15 NH4C1 or Na15NO3 for the subsequent 2 days to investigate the absorption, translocation, and assimilation of inorganic nitrogen in relation to the mineral supply. In another experiment plants were grown on NO3 ?, NH4 +, NH4N03, and K-free and Ca-limited NH4N03 nutrient solutions for 10 days, and then in the latter three treatments the nitrogen source was replaced with NO3 ? and half of the —K plants received K for 6 days to examine the changes in the nitrate reductase activity (NRA).

Wheat plants absorbed NH4 ?N and NO3-N at a similar rate. Influence of K on the absorption of N03-N was stronger than that on the absorption of NH4-N in wheat plants. The supply of K to the —K plants increased the absorption of NO3-N, while the absorption of NH4-N still remained at a lower rate in spite of the addition of K. A limited supply of Ca and lack of Mg in nutrient media slightly affected the absorption of NH4-N. The influence of K was stronger on the translocation of nitrogen from roots to shoots, while Ca and Mg had little effect. When K was supplied again to the —K plants the translocation of NO3,-N was more accelerated than that of NH4-N. Incorporation of NH4-N into protein was higher than that of NO3-N in all the tissues; root, stem, and leaf. Assimilation of NH4-N and NO3-N decreased by the —K and —Mg treatments.

Leaf NRA of wheat plants decreased in the —K and —Ca plants. Higher leaf NRA was found when K was given again to the —K plants than when the plants were continuously grown in K-free media. Replacement of NO3 ? with NH4 + as the nitrogen source caused a decline of leaf NRA, while the supply of both NH4 ?N and NO3-N slightly affected the leaf NRA.  相似文献

Soil respiration in forest plantations can be greatly affected by management practices. Irrigation is necessary for high productivity of poplar plantations in semi-arid northwest China. Moreover, plowing is essential for improving soil quality and reducing evaporation. In the present study, the influences of irrigation and plowing on soil carbon dioxide (CO2) efflux were investigated in poplar plantations in 2007 and 2008. The experiments included three stand age classes receiving three treatments: control, irrigation, and plowing. Mean soil respiration in irrigation treatment stands was 5.47, 4.86, and 4.43?µmol?m?2?s?1 in 3-, 8-, and 15-year-old stands, respectively, during the growing season. In contrast, mean soil respiration in control stands was 3.71, 3.83, and 3.98?µmol?m?2?s?1 in 3-, 8-, and 15-year-old stands, respectively. During the entire observation period, mean soil respiration in plowing treatment stands increased by 36.2% compared with that in the control stands. Mean soil respiration in irrigation treatment stands was significantly higher than that in the control stands; this was mainly because fine root growth and decomposer activities were greatly depressed by soil drought, since natural precipitation could not meet their water demands. The results also suggest that plowing management can greatly increase soil CO2 emission by modifying soil structure. After plowing, soil bulk density decreased and soil aeration was greatly improved, leading to greater rates of oxidation and mineralization.  相似文献

Abstract

Real-time images of nitrogen fixation in an intact nodule of hydroponically cultured soybean (Glycine max [L] Merr.) were obtained. In the present study, we developed a rapid method to produce and purify 13N-labeled radioactive nitrogen gas (half life: 9.97?min). 13N was produced from a 16O (p, α) 13N nuclear reaction. The target chamber was filled with CO2 and irradiated for 10?min with protons at an energy of 18.3?MeV and an electric current of 5?μA, which was delivered from a cyclotron. All CO2 in the collected gas was absorbed and removed with powdered soda-lime in a syringe and replaced with helium gas. The resulting gas was injected into gas chromatography and separated and a 35?mL fraction, including the peak of [13N]-nitrogen gas, was collected by monitoring the chromatogram. The obtained gas was mixed with 10?mL of O2 and 5?mL of N2 and used in the tracer experiment. The tracer gas was fed into the underground part of intact nodulated soybean plants and serial images of the distribution of 13N were obtained non-invasively using a positron-emitting tracer imaging system (PETIS). The rates of nitrogen fixation of the six test plants were estimated to be 0.17?±?0.10?μmol N2?h?1 from the PETIS image data. The decreasing rates of assimilated nitrogen were also estimated to be 0.012?±?0.011?μmol?N2?h?1. In conclusion, we successfully observed nitrogen fixation in soybean plants with nodules non-invasively and quantitatively using [13N]N2 and PETIS.  相似文献

Optimal fertilizer nitrogen (N) rates result in economic yield levels and reduced pollution. A soil test for determining optimal fertilizer N rates for wheat has not been developed for Quebec, Canada, or many other parts of the world. Therefore, the objectives were to determine: 1) the relationship among soil nitrate (NO? 3)- N, soil ammonium (NH + 4)- N and N fertilizer on wheat yields; and 2) the soil sampling times and depths most highly correlated with yield response to soil NO? 3-N and NH + 4-N. In a three year research work, wet and dried soil samples of 0- to 30- and 30- to 60-cm depths from 20 wheat fields that received four rates of N fertilizer at seeding and postseeding (plants 15 cm tall) were analyzed for NH + 4-N and NO? 3 -N using a quick-test (N-Trak) and a standard laboratory method. Wheat yield response to N fertilizer was limited, but strong to soil NO? 3-N.  相似文献

Drainage of peatlands affects the fluxes of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Organic soils used for agriculture contribute a large proportion of anthropogenic GHG emissions, and on-farm mitigation options are important. This field study investigated whether choice of a cropping system can be used to mitigate emissions of N2O and influence CH4 fluxes from cultivated organic and carbon-rich soils during the growing season. Ten different sites in southern Sweden representing peat soils, peaty marl and gyttja clay, with a range of different soil properties, were used for on-site measurements of N2O and CH4 fluxes. The fluxes during the growing season from soils under two different crops grown in the same field and same environmental conditions were monitored. Crop intensities varied from grasslands to intensive potato cultivation. The results showed no difference in median seasonal N2O emissions between the two crops compared. Median seasonal emissions ranged from 0 to 919?µg?N2O?m?2?h?1, with peaks on individual sampling occasions of up to 3317?µg?N2O?m?2?h?1. Nitrous oxide emissions differed widely between sites, indicating that soil properties are a regulating factor. However, pH was the only soil factor that correlated with N2O emissions (negative exponential correlation). The type of crop grown on the soil did not influence CH4 fluxes. Median seasonal CH4 flux from the different sites ranged from uptake of 36?µg CH4?m?2?h?1 to release of 4.5?µg?CH4?m?2?h?1. From our results, it was concluded that farmers cannot mitigate N2O emissions during the growing season or influence CH4 fluxes by changing the cropping system in the field.  相似文献

Nitrogen (N) metabolism is of great economic importance because it provides proteins and nucleic acids which in turn control many cellular activities in plants. Salinity affects different steps of N metabolism including N uptake, NO3? reduction, and NH4+ assimilation, leading to a severe decline in crop yield. Major mechanisms of salinity effects on N metabolism are salinity-induced reductions in water availability and absorption, disruption of root membrane integrity, an inhibition of NO3? uptake by Cl?, low NO3? loading into root xylem, alteration in the activities of N assimilating enzymes, decrease in transpiration, and reduction in relative growth rate which results in a lower N demand. However, the effects of salinity on N metabolism are multifaceted and may vary depending on many plant and soil factors. The present review deals with salinity effects on N metabolism in plants, emphasizing on the activities of N metabolizing enzymes in a saline environment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The addition of carbonates to a nutrient solution to alleviate ammonium (NH4 +) toxicity in hydroponically-grown cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) plants was investigated. Stable isotopes [nitrogen (15N) and carbon (13C)] were used to assess the uptake of nitrogen [NH4 + or nitrate (NO3 ?)] as well as carbon [bicarbonate (HCO3 ?)/carbonate (CO3 2?)] by the roots. Ammonium as the sole N source at 5 mM decreased plant fresh weights compared to NO3 ?. However, at lower concentrations of NH4 + (25% of 5 mM total N), growth was increased compared to NO3 ? alone. Inorganic C enrichment [calcium carbonate (CaCO3)] of the nutrient solution increased the fresh weight of NH4 + grown plants with up to 150% relative to control plants receiving calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] for pH regulation. Root 15N enrichment was lower in 15NH4 + supplied plants compared to 15NO3 ?, while the 13C enrichment in leaves was increased by NH4 + nutrition compared to NO3 ? or NH4NO3. The enhanced C capture was associated with high PEPCase activity in the roots. It is concluded that inorganic carbon enrichment of the root medium may alleviate NH4 + toxicity via increased synthesis of C skeletons and, accordingly, increased capacity for NH4 + assimilation and N export to the shoots.  相似文献

Abstract

The natural 13C abundance (δ 13C) of plant leaves collected from fields in Thailand and the Philippines (Asian Monsoon tropics) was analyzed, and changes in the δ 13C values of C3 and C4 plants in wet and dry seasons were characterized. In Thailand, the δ 13C values of C3 plants were ?29.2?±?1.04 (mean?±?standard deviation) ‰ in July and August (wet season) and ?28.6?±?1.05‰ in February and March (dry season): these values are not significantly different, whereas the values of C4 plants were ?12.7?±?0.56‰ in the wet season and ?14.5?±?0.68‰ in the dry season (P?<?0.01, t-test). In the Philippines, where plants were collected only in October (late wet season), the δ 13C values of C3 plants were ?29.5?±?1.28‰, whereas those of C4 plants were ?12.6?±?1.11‰. These results suggest that under an Asian Monsoon climate, C4 plants exhibit more negative δ 13C values in the dry season than in the wet season, whereas C3 plants as a whole show no clear seasonal changes in δ 13C values.  相似文献

Abstract

Male and female leaf discs of Jojoba [Simmondsia chinensis (Link) Schneider] were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with various nitrate:ammonium ratio and phytohormones concentrations. For the optimum callus growth, hormonal concentrations were remained equal for both male and female leaf tissues i.e., 0.4 mg L?1 2,4‐dichlorophenoxyaceticacid, 1.25 mg L?1 6‐benzyladenine and 0.5 mgL?1 kinetin. However, a statistically significant difference was observed when Murashige and Skoog media was supplemented with an additional nitrogen source. In female leaf tissue, maximum fresh and dry weights were recorded in Murashige and Skoog media supplemented with an additional source of NO3 ?:NH4 + (60 mM) whereas in male leaf tissue this addition was inhibitory. This study suggests that nitrogen requirement may be different for optimum callus growth in both male and female leaf tissues.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A study was carried out to determine the influence of nitrogen (N) sources on the growth, nitrate (NO3 ?) accumulation, and macronutrient concentrations of pakchoi (Brassica chinensis L.) in hydroponics. Plants were supplied with NO3 ? and two amino acids (AA), glutamic acid (Glu), and glutamine (Gln), at six NO3 ?-N/AA-N molar ratios: (1) 100:0, (2) 80:20, (3) 60:40, (4) 40:60, (5) 20:80, (6) 0:100. The total N concentration was 12.5 mmol/L for all treatments in nutrient solutions. Both AAs reduced plant growth with decreasing NO3 ?-N/AA-N ratios, but the reduction was for Gln than for Glu. At 80:20 NO3 ?-N: Gln-N ratio, the Gln had no significant effect on pakchoi fresh weights. Decreasing NO3 ?-N/AA-N ratios reduced NO3 ? concentrations in the plant, regardless of AA sources. Adding an appropriate portion of AA-N to nutrient solutions for hydroponic culture increased concentrations of N, phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) in pakchoi shoots. Substituting 20% or less of NO3 ?-N with Gln-N in hydroponic culture will increase the pakchoi quality by reducing NO3 ? concentration and increasing mineral nutrient concentrations in shoots without significant reduction of crop yields.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted over two years to evaluate the gas exchange, water relations, and water use efficiency (WUE) of wheat under different water stress and nitrogen management practices at Crop Physiology Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Four irrigation regimes and four nitrogen levels, i.e., 0, 50, 100, and 150 kg N ha?1 were applied in this study. The photosynthetic gas exchange parameters [net carbon dioxide (CO2) assimilation rate, transpiration rate and stomatal conductance] are remarkably improved by water application and nitrogen (N) nutrition. Plants grown under four irrigation treatments as compared with those grown under one irrigation treatment average stomatal conductance increased from 0.15 to 0.46 μ mol m?2s?1mol during 2002–2003 and 0.18 to 0.33 μ mol m?2s?1mol during the year 2003–2004 and photosynthetic rate from 9.33 to 13.03 μmol CO2 m?2 s?1 and 3.99 to 7.75 μmol CO2 m?2 s?1 during the year 2002–2003 and 2003–2004, respectively. The exposure of plants to water and nitrogen stress lead to noticeable decrease in leaf water potential, osmotic potential and relative water content. Relative water content (RWC) of stressed plants dropped from 98 to 75% with the decrease in number of irrigation and nitrogen nutrition. The higher leaf water potential, and relative water contents were associated with higher photosynthetic rate. Water use efficiency (WUE) reduced with increasing number of irrigations and increased with increasing applied nitrogen at all irrigation levels.  相似文献

The different responses of two populations of Suaeda salsa (Linn.) Pall. (saline seepweed) from an intertidal zone and a saline inland zone to salinity [1 or 500 mM sodium chloride (NaCl)] and nitrogen [N; 0.05, 1, or 10 mM nitrate (NO3 ?)‐N] were investigated. Greater NO3 ?‐N supply (10 mM) increased shoot dry weight for the two populations of S. salsa, especially for S. salsa from the saline inland zone. Greater NO3 ?‐N supply (10 mM) increased the concentrations of chlorophyll and carotenoid in leaves and the NO3 ? and potassium (K+) concentrations in shoots for both populations. Greater NO3 ?‐N supply (10 mM) increased shoot Na+ in S. salsa from the intertidal zone. In conclusion, S. salsa from the saline inland zone is more responsive to NO3 ?‐N supply than the intertidal population. Greater NO3 ?‐N supply can help the species, especially the intertidal population, to grow and to mediate ion homeostasis under high salinity.  相似文献

In herbaceous plants grown in controlled environmental conditions nitrate (NO3?) uptake increases during the day and decreases in the night. The aim of this work was to measure NO3? uptake rates along the day-night cycle, in rose (Rosa hybrida L.) plants grown under controlled environmental conditions. Two independent experiments were conducted inside a growth chamber at 20 ºC and 25 ºC, using rose mini-plants cv. Texas, grown in a hydroponic nutrient film technique (NFT) set-up with at 3.0 mol m?3 NO3? concentration. Dry matter and nitrogen (N) accumulation were registered during growth and NO3? uptake rates were measured during a day-night cycle, using 15N as 15NO3?. In both experiments the hourly estimated N-NO3? accumulation rates are near to the measured uptake rates of 15NO3? and nitrate uptake decrease during the day and increase in the night, in contrast with the herbaceous plants. Results are discussed on the basis of N plant demand and carbohydrates availability.  相似文献

We observed that the growth of three Amaranthaceae species was promoted by sodium (Na), in the order dwarf glasswort (Salicornia bigelovii Torr.) >> Swiss chard (Beta Burgaris L. spp. cicla cv. Seiyou Shirokuki) > table beet (Beta vulgaris L. spp. vulgaris cv. Detroit Dark Red). In the present study, these Na-loving plants were grown in solutions containing 4 mol m?3 nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) and 100 mol m?3 sodium chloride (NaCl) and potassium chloride (KCl) under six Na to potassium (K) ratios, 0:100, 20:80, 40:60, 60:40, 80:20 and 100:0, to elucidate the function of Na and K on specific characteristics of Na-loving plants. The growth of dwarf glasswort increased with increasing Na concentration of the shoot, and the shoot dry weight of plants grown in 100:0 Na:K was 214% that of plants grown at 0:100. In Swiss chard and table beet, growth was unchanged by the external ratio of Na to K. The water content was not changed in Swiss chard or table beet by the external Na to K ratio. These observations indicate that both Na and K have a function in osmotic regulation. However, dwarf glasswort could not maintain succulence at 0:100; therefore, Na has a specific function in dwarf glasswort for osmotic regulation to maintain a favorable water status, and the contribution of K to osmotic regulation is low. NO3-N uptake was promoted by Na uptake in dwarf glasswort and Swiss chard. NO3-N uptake and transport to shoots was optimal at 100:0 in dwarf glasswort and at 80:20 in Swiss chard. These functions are very important for the Na-loving mechanism, and the contribution of K was lower in dwarf glasswort than in Swiss chard.  相似文献
