Spinal cord medulloepithelioma in a dog   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Medulloepithelioma, an embryonal neural tumor, was diagnosed in a 6-month-old Bullmastiff. Clinical signs of incomplete, upper motor neuron, transverse myelopathy involving the hindlimbs were observed on examination. Myelography was required to identify the cause of clinical abnormality. The tumor involved the L1 spinal cord segment.  相似文献

A 2-year-old, male neutered domestic shorthair cat was presented for investigation of an acute onset of tetraparesis immediately following the implantation of a pet identification microchip. A left-sided C6-T2 spinal segment localisation was suspected from the neurological examination, with spinal cord trauma being the primary differential diagnosis. Myelography demonstrated obliteration of the contrast columns by the microchip at the C5-C6 intervertebral disc space. A dorsal laminectomy was undertaken and the microchip was successfully removed. Eleven months after the surgery, the cat was able to weight bear in all limbs but with mild residual paresis in the left thoracic limb.  相似文献

To characterize spinal cord effects of needle placement using lumbar puncture myelography technique, lumbar puncture was performed in 5 dogs and computed tomography images of the spinal column were acquired in the transverse plane at the level of the puncture site after contrast injection and both before and after needle removal. The spinal cords were punctured during needle placement and parenchymal contrast enhancement was present in 4 of 5 dogs. Although no dogs exhibited overt neurological abnormalities following computed tomographic imaging, hemorrhage, gliosis and axonal degeneration were confirmed microscopically in all subjects. These results suggest that spinal cord morbidity is induced when lumbar myelography is performed using currently accepted technique.  相似文献

A 13‐year‐old, female spayed, crossbreed dog of 32 kg was presented for evaluation of peracute onset of non‐ambulatory tetraparesis after chewing an electrical wire. Neurological examination was consistent with a C1‐C5 myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a focal intramedullary lesion over the C2‐C3 vertebral bodies, which was confirmed to be an acute focal necrotising poliomyelopathy with subarachnoid and subdural haemorrhages on postmortem examination. This report describes the clinical, imaging and histopathological findings of this unusual type of spinal cord injury, and the effects of electrocution in the central nervous system of dogs.  相似文献

Hemangiosarcoma in the spinal canal was diagnosed in a 25-year-old stallion showing progressive and symmetrical 4-limb ataxia, proprioceptive deficits, and weakness. On necropsy, an extradural mass consisting of spindle-shaped cells and numerous free erythrocytes was found at the level of C7-T1. Immunohistochemical staining confirmed a neoplasm of endothelial origin.  相似文献

Diffuse cerebellar meningeal carcinomatosis secondary to haematogenous dissemination from an anaplastic solid mammary carcinoma was diagnosed in an old German shepherd dog suffering from seizures and rapidly progressing to stupor. A single computed tomography cerebellar scan identified an unusual homogeneous density area that was considered to be associated with a vascular disorder, in the absence of space-occupying lesions. At necropsy, nodular masses were observed in the mammary gland, lungs, tracheobronchial lymph nodes and adrenals. Cerebellar leptomeninges were affected by diffuse blood effusion. Histology showed a solid mammary tumour, characterised by anaplastic cells with a cytoplasmic keratin-positive and vimentin-negative immunoreaction. The tumour had spread to the lungs, tracheobronchial lymph nodes and adrenals. Cerebellar leptomeninges were diffusely infiltrated by the cytokeratin-positive neoplastic cells. Even though computed tomography scan gave no evidence of meningeal carcinomatosis, it was considered that a cerebellar vascular disorder might be present. This was subsequently confirmed by neuropathological investigation and seen to be associated with a cerebellar leptomeningeal carcinomatosis.  相似文献

An intramedullary space-occupying lesion in the form of an epidermoid cyst was diagnosed in a one-and-a-half-year-old flat-coated retriever. Dorsal laminectomy and durotomy were performed in order to establish the diagnosis followed by excision of one third of the cyst. The remaining cystic tissue that was intimately attached to the spinal cord parenchyma was left in place in order to avoid further damage to the nervous tissue. The dog's neurological status improved dramatically after the surgery, but deteriorated four months later due to recurrence of the cyst.  相似文献

A 7-year-old spayed German Shorthaired Pointer was determined to have a branchial cyst in the subcutaneous tissues of the cervical/facial area. Treatment had been attempted by aspiration and placement of drains, but without success; the final diagnosis was made after microscopic examination of the wall of the excised cyst. The means by which fluctuant swellings in this region may be differentiated are anatomic location and examination of full-thickness biopsy specimens of cyst walls.  相似文献

Cartilaginous exostosis developed in the atlantoaxial region of a three-and-a-half-year-old Bernese mountain dog. The dog exhibited ataxia in the hindlimbs and flailing movements in the forelimbs. On survey radiographs of the cervical spine there was a focal calcified mass between the dorsal arch of the atlas and the spinous process of the axis. Lumbar myelography revealed severe dorsal spinal cord compression. The mass was removed surgically and the dog made a complete recovery. Histopathology of the excised mass was consistent with a diagnosis of cartilaginous exostosis.  相似文献

A cranial cervical mass was surgically removed from a dog. On histologic examination, the mass was consistent with an esophageal duplication cyst, a condition rare in humans and not reported in the dog.  相似文献

A 7-year-old spayed bitch had a 3-year history of episodes of hind-limb weakness and ataxia. Neurologic abnormalities consisted of deficits in postural reactions, spinal reflexes, and conscious proprioception. A right-sided head tilt also was observed. Immediately after cervical radiography, CSF tap, and electroencephalography, the dog was alert, but it was found comatose the next morning and died within an hour. At necropsy, a 1.6- x 0.8- x 1.5-cm, thinly encapsulated mass was found on the left cerebellar peduncle. It had caused dorsal displacement of the left portion of the cerebellum and ventral compression of the fourth ventricle. Histologically, the mass was determined to be a dermoid cyst.  相似文献
