Abstract

Extensive forms of shrimp aquaculture have become an important source of income for farm households in the brackish water region of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The economic and production characteristics of farms are discussed in this paper, based on a 1997 farm survey, with particular emphasis on shrimp farming practices. Two types of shrimp fanning practice were observed, one based on natural recruitment of seedstock with few supplementary inputs, and the other based on relatively high cash investments in Penaeus monodon seedstock and other inputs. Households practising monodon culture made significantly more income, but faced high risk associated with shrimp mortality. An investigation of the factors affecting monodon yields indicated that investment in higher quality inputs had a positive effect on yield and income. However, further research is needed on the extent to which management can reduce risk of shrimp mortality by investing in such premium quality inputs.  相似文献

Low and unstable shrimp yields of the improved extensive shrimp system has been a tremendous obstacle for economic development in the coastal areas of Southern Vietnam. To investigate the biological characteristics of this system, ponds in the coastal Cai Nuoc district, Mekong delta of Vietnam, were monitored. Results showed that the system was not optimal for shrimp. While chlorophyll a (chl a) (1.51–37.2 μg L?1), phytoplankton density (6333–974 444 cells L?1) and zooplankton density (7.1–517.2 ind L?1) were abundant and comparable to shrimp farms elsewhere, zoobenthic community was very poor (7–1971 ind m?2). Toxin‐producing cyanobacteria (Oscillatoria limosa, Oscillatoria formosa, Anabaena sp. and Phormidium tenue) were found. Total bacteria and Vibrios were present in large numbers (respectively 1.04 × 105 and 6.64 × 102 CFU mL?1 in pond water, 6.33 × 105 and 9.47 × 103 CFU g?1 in sediment). Presence of toxin‐producing organisms, poor zoobenthic community and abundance of Vibrios all can enhance shrimp susceptibility to diseases. The following measures are recommended to improve the situation: (1) complete testing of seeds for pathogens, (2) not to incorporate fish into shrimp ponds and (3) applying no‐culture breaks and pathogen‐killing chemicals.  相似文献

A participatory on-farm study analysed water and nutrient budgets of six low and four high water-exchange ponds of integrated agriculture–aquaculture (IAA) farms in the Mekong delta. Water, nitrogen (N), organic carbon (OC) and phosphorus (P) flows through the ponds were monitored, and data on fish production and nutrient accumulation in sediments were collected during a fish culture cycle. Results showed that, on average, only 5–6% of total N, OC or P inputs introduced into ponds were recovered in the harvested fish. About 29% N, 81% OC and 51% P accumulated in the sediments. The remaining fractions were lost through pond water discharges into adjacent canals. Fish yields and nutrient accumulation rates in the sediments increased with increasing food inputs applied to the pond at the cost of increased nutrient discharges. High water-exchange ponds received two to three times more on-farm nutrients (N, OC and P) while requiring nine times more water and discharging 10–14 times more nutrients than the low water-exchange ponds. Water and nutrient flows between the pond and the other IAA-farm components need to be considered when optimizing productivity and profitability from IAA systems.  相似文献

Consecutive failure of the improved extensive shrimp farming system has deterred the economy of some coastal areas in Vietnam. To investigate pond physico‐chemical characteristics, a monitoring scheme was performed in the Cai Nuoc district of Southern Vietnam. Results show that the system was not optimal for shrimps. While ponds were not contaminated by organic loadings or major nutrients (N, P) and salinity and pH were most optimal for shrimp, more than 37% of dissolved oxygen (DO) measurements were lower than recommended. In the early morning hours, DO measurements were even much lower (0.84–2.20 mg L?1). Sulphate (SO42?) concentrations were most within the acceptable range. Total suspended solids (TSS) were above the acceptable limit (<50 mg L?1). Iron, alkalinity and hydrogen sulphide were also higher than recommended. Pond sediment was anaerobic (redox potential ?422 to ?105 mV) and contained high amounts of organic matter (9.84–21.96%). Lethal DO levels, high TSS and anoxic sediment are the drawbacks in this system. Suggested measures to improve pond conditions are (1) allowing sedimentation before filling culture ponds, (2) covering dikes, (3) including no‐culture breaks between shrimp crops, (4) drying pond bottom, (5) removing sediment and (6) controlling pond's vegetation.  相似文献

Stable isotope analysis was used to determine the sources of dietary nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) for shrimp during the rearing phase in extensive rice‐shrimp ponds in My Xuyen and Gia Rai districts, Vietnam. Farm‐made feed was added as a food source in shrimp ponds in My Xuyen district, and based on stable isotope analyses, was generally a poor dietary source. The commercial formulated feed used in Gia Rai also appeared to contribute little directly to the nutritional needs of the shrimp. In contrast, the natural biota in all ponds appeared to contribute substantially. In particular, biota from beam trawls and benthic organic matter were the most likely sources of nutrition in My Xuyen ponds, while benthic organic matter was the main source in Gia Rai ponds. δ15N ratios in the natural biota in My Xuyen farms decreased over the growing season, suggesting increased N fixation in the case of the benthic organic matter reaching values as low as 1‰. This suggests N‐limitation in the ponds and that natural biota become increasingly dependent on N fixed by algae and/or other microorganisms. There is the potential to promote the growth of the plankton and hence, the other natural biota, by the judicious addition of fertilizer.  相似文献

为全面掌握东北地区稻田养殖中华绒螯蟹 (Eriocheir sinensis) 的农药残留情况,利用气相色谱串联质谱法 (GC-MS/MS)和液相色谱串联质谱法 (HPLC-MS/MS)调查了东北三省主要稻-蟹产区中华绒螯蟹体内42种农药的残留水平,并采用食品安全指数法(IFS)评价了农药的潜在健康风险。在采集的56份样品中,除β-HCH、p, p′-DDE、乙氧氟草醚、丁草胺、乙草胺、莠去津等14种农药检出外,其余28种农药均未检出。其中,检出率最高的为β-HCH (89.3%)和p, p′-DDE (82.1%);检出农药含量最高的为乙氧氟草醚(256 μg·kg–1)和丁草胺(185 μg·kg–1)。健康风险评价结果表明,检出农药的IFS均远小于1,平均安全指数相似文献

ABSTRACT:   A pelagic bacterial community structure was examined in experimental intensive shrimp culture ponds that have a shrimp–mangrove complex aquaculture system, an extensive shrimp culture pond and a mangrove area in Thailand by denaturant gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of polymerase chain reaction amplified partial 16S rRNA genes. Bacterial community structure in the intensive shrimp culture ponds was distinguishable from that of the mangrove area. In the extensive shrimp culture pond, the bacterial community structure resembled that in the mangrove area, but bacterial abundance was as great as that in the intensive shrimp culture ponds. Among the intensive shrimp culture ponds, the bacterial community structure was different between a closed culture system and a shrimp–mangrove complex culture system. Moreover, the bacterial community structure in mangrove planted ponds was close to those in the intensive shrimp culture ponds when shrimp culture was conducted, but it was close to those in the mangrove areas without shrimp culture. These results suggest that intensive shrimp culture with shrimp feed input affects the bacterial community structures in pond water.  相似文献

Integrated shrimp-mangrove farming systems in the Mekong delta of Vietnam   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In recent years, mangroves have been seriously threatened by shrimp culture development in the Mekong delta of Vietnam. As one way of protecting the mangroves, efforts have been made to develop shrimp-mangrove integrated farming systems through State Forestry Fisheries Enterprises (SFFEs), involving a participatory approach. The present study investigated the shrimp-mangrove farming systems in Ngoc Hien district at the southern tip of the Mekong delta through a detailed farm-level survey, including technical, environmental, social and economic factors. A total of 161 shrimp-mangrove farms on the east and west coasts of Ngoc Hien district were surveyed. The results showed that on the East coast of the delta, the pH of the bottom soil, the water alkalinity, gate width ratio (ratio of gate width to pond area), pond age and mangrove density, and flooding level of ‘flat’ (flat is where the mangroves are planted) in the dry and rainy seasons were significantly correlated with shrimp pond yields. On the west coast, the pH of the bottom soil, dissolved inorganic phosphorus, ditch area, and flooding level of ‘flat’ were found to be significantly correlated with shrimp pond yields. An economic analysis, based solely on the economic returns from shrimp culture showed that the farming systems with a mangrove coverage of 30-50% of the pond area gave the highest annual economic returns. The results demonstrate a better economic return to farmers who maintain mangroves in their farming systems.  相似文献

Nutrient budget for shrimp (Penaeus monodon) culture was performed in ten culture ponds (0.4–1.0 ha) in Orissa, India, at stocking density of 10.0–22.10/m2. The average initial body weight of shrimps was 0.02 g. The culture period was for 4 months. Feed was the main input of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and organic carbon (OC). The FCR varied from 1.35 to 1.75. At harvest time, the average weight of shrimps varied from 28 to 32 g. Total N, P and OC applied to these ponds through all the inputs ranged from 106.64 to 292.63, 23.17 to 57.55 kg and 763.10 to 1,831.20 kg per crop, respectively. Feed alone accounted for 94.43–95.03 % total N, 91.92–95.36 % total P and 80.33–92.48 % total OC, respectively. The harvest of shrimp accounted for recovery of 25.45–36.88 (av. 30.12) %, 10.07–12.94 (av. 11.16) % and 15.80–20.81 (av. 18.01) % of added N, P and OC, respectively. N, P and OC accumulated in sediment were 49.11, 64.07 and 64.82 %, respectively, of total nutrient retention in the culture system. Unaccounted N, P and OC were 13.29, 21.83 and 18.14 %, respectively, of the total nutrient retention in the system. N, P and OC outputs in the discharged water during harvest were 7.48, 2.94 and 2.03 %, respectively.  相似文献

The effect of carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio manipulation in feed supplements on Artemia production and water quality was investigated in solar salt ponds in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. It was assumed that development of bacterial bioflocs through C/N manipulation would improve Artemia production and water quality as demonstrated in freshwater and marine aquaculture. Twelve ponds were used for three treatments and the control, in triplicates. Green water (GW) was supplied to all ponds, with the standard Vietnamese procedure of supplying GW and chicken manure (CM) as the control (C/N 1.8). Treatment ponds were supplemented with tapioca (TAP) as carbon source, combined with either CM, pig manure (PM) or rice bran (RB), with C/N ratios of 7.4, 10.5 or 20.1 respectively. After 6 weeks of culture, no single treatment supported both improved water quality and enhanced Artemia production. Overall, improved water quality was observed at C/N 20.1 and higher Artemia production at C/N 7.4. Although external field factors could have interfered with the set‐up, this is the first study on the effect of C/N manipulation in feed supplements in Artemia pond production systems and provides the basis for development of bacterial bioflocs as a technology to improve water quality and Artemia production.  相似文献

This case study looks at changing livelihood strategies of the coastal population in Soc Trang Province in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, and their impacts on natural resources. It provides an opportunity not only to document the impact of shrimp farming on coastal livelihood but also to better understand the link between brackish water aquaculture development and natural resource use. The approach includes a socio‐economic survey in six villages of the province focusing on risk strategies and livelihood diversification. Shrimp farming was found to be less risky and more profitable for households and private companies with a higher investment capacity than for poorer households. Households facing a high risk in shrimp farming diversified their aquaculture production, with other high‐value species like mud crab and elongated goby as a coping mechanism. The use of natural resources' collection is shifting from home consumption towards market‐oriented sales of juvenile mud crabs, clams or fish (elongated goby) to supply seed for brackish water aquaculture developments.  相似文献

A budget describing the flow of organic carbon (OC), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) through two polyculture ponds (jellyfish–shellfish–fish–prawn) was constructed. The total input of OC was 3107 kg ha?1 in pond 1 and 3358 kg ha?1 in pond 2, while total output was 1759 kg ha?1 in pond 1 and 1325 kg ha?1 in pond 2. In pond 1, the total input of N was 364 kg ha?1 and output was 359 kg ha?1, whereas, in pond 2, the total input of N was 439 kg ha?1 and total output was 331 kg ha?1. The total input of P was 75 kg ha?1 in pond 1 and 66 kg ha?1 in pond 2, while total outputs for pond 1 and pond 2 were 74 and 65 kg ha?1 respectively. Primary production from phytoplankton contributed the largest proportion of total OC (49–56%), while feed contributed the largest proportion of N (78–81%) and P (79–80%). Animals harvested from the aquaculture ponds accounted for the largest proportion of N (50–73%) and P (49–52%), and respiration accounted for the largest proportion of OC (43–61%) output from the system. The OC, N and P use efficiency of harvested animals was 30.30%, 70.19% and 50.14% in pond 1, respectively, and 21.03%, 46.95% and 46.47% in pond 2 respectively. In terms of nutrient use, the filter‐feeding bivalve, Sinonovacula constricta, was the most efficient species within the polyculture system.  相似文献

Diseases in shrimp farms in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam cause significant crop losses and are therefore of great concern to producers. Once a pond becomes infected, it is difficult to prevent spread of the disease to nearby shrimp farming areas. Thus, predicting the occurrence of disease is an essential part of reducing the risk for shrimp farmers. In this study, we applied an integrated geographic information system and machine learning system to predict three serious diseases of shrimp, namely, acute hepatopancreatic necrosis, white spot syndrome disease, and Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei infection, based on data collected from shrimp farms in the Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, and Ca Mau provinces of Vietnam. We first constructed a map showing the distribution of these diseases using the locations of affected farms, and then we conducted spatial analysis to acquire the geographical features of the affected locations. This latter information was combined with environmental factors and clinical signs to form the set of independent variables affecting the outbreak of diseases. The neural network model outperformed the logistic regression, random forest, and gradient boosting methods in terms of predicting infection to estimate the probability of disease occurrence in farmed areas. Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease infected farms downstream of the Co Chien and Hau Rivers of Tra Vinh and west of Ca Mau. Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei infection is distributed in Soc Trang Province, while white spot syndrome virus has spread to the coastal districts of Soc Trang and Bac Lieu Provinces, where it is highly associated to water from a complex canal system.

系统化学收支的研究可以说明进入池塘生态系统各营养物质的归宿,文章应用营养盐收支法分析了池塘生态系统的物质流通。结果表明,对虾生产利用营养盐所占比例依次为氮(N),27.40%;磷(P),20.69%;碳(C),17.32%。在营养盐支出中,P的沉积作用明显,占总支出的52.04%;N在水体的悬浮和溶解较多,占61.06%;C在养殖系统的呼吸作用消耗最大,占40.86%。在封闭式池塘系统中,对虾养殖中营养盐的低利用效率为系统环境中营养盐积累的直接原因,除C通过呼吸作用得到有效释放外,大部分N、P污染元素滞留或沉积在池塘系统。  相似文献

文章调查了广东省汕尾市红海湾对虾精养池塘水体中不同形式的碳(C)、氮(N)和异养细菌含量的变化,并分析c和N对异养细菌的影响,以期为养殖过程合理调控水质环境提供理论数据。结果发现,池塘中不同形式的P(C)在养殖前、中期逐渐升高并达到最大值,中、后期缓慢下降趋于稳定,P(N)在养殖前、中期较低,后期升高并达到最大值;异养细菌数在养殖中期的第56天和养殖后期的第98天出现2个高峰,养殖第70天出现低谷。异养细菌数与总无机碳(TIC)和总碳(TC)呈现极显著正相关关系;养殖中、后期异养细菌数与C/N(TOC/TN)呈极显著负相关关系。结果表明,养殖中、后期水体中C(主要是有机碳)成为影响异养细菌繁殖的限制性因素,适当添加C源可以促进异养细菌繁殖,吸收转化无机氮,从而达到降低水体中无机氮浓度、提高物质循环利用效率的作用。  相似文献

Shrimp aquaculture is the biggest source of export income in Vietnam. However, the development of the shrimp poses a serious threat to coastal mangroves by converting coastal mangroves into shrimp farms. Much effort has been made to replant mangroves and reduce the impacts of shrimp farming on the environment, and maintaining mangrove coverage at 30–50% of total farm area has provided the highest benefits in the integrated mangrove shrimp model. In this study, we re-examine the benefits of forest cover on the survival and yield of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) in the integrated mangrove shrimp farming systems in Ca Mau province, Vietnam. The study found positive linear correlations of log transformed survival and yield of tiger shrimp with forest cover of the forms: Ln (survival)?=????1.39?+?0.038?×?forest coverage (r2?=?0.22; p value?=?0.0007); Ln (yield)?=?3.55?+?0.026?×?forest coverage (r2?=?0.16; p value?=?0.004). The households with high forest cover (i.e.,?>?45%) also had 1.07?±?0.29 and 1.39?±?0.36 (CI 95%, p value?=?0.000) kg ha?1 higher yield per night harvest than those with medium and low forest cover, respectively. As a result, households with high forest cover have higher benefits than those with lower forest cover. Our findings together with previous published studies lead to the recommendation that farmers maintain mangroves in farming systems for better economic and environmental benefits.

为研究草鱼(Ctenopharyngodon idella)–鳙(Aristichthys nobilis)–鲫(Carassius carassius)零换水池塘营养盐收支状况,阐明其零换水机制,以草鱼–鳙–鲫零换水池塘为实验组,以草鱼–鳙–鲫常规换水池塘为对照组,开展了为期2年的池塘有机碳(TOC)、氮(N)、磷(P)收支的研究。结果显示,2组池塘TOC、N、P的主要来源均为饲料投入,分别为77.06%和81.00%,92.08%和92.77%,94.18%和95.63%;TOC、N、P的主要输出途径均为底泥积累,分别占输入营养盐的43.32%和22.10%,61.40%和52.82%,78.71%和79.58%。2组池塘养殖鱼类收获分别占输入碳(C)、N、P的10.08%和13.05%,21.00%和25.57%,15.41%和18.60%。零换水池塘的C、N、P水体积累量和积累率均显著低于常规池塘(P<0.05),其积累率分别降低92.91%、88.52%和87.12%。零换水池塘的N、P底泥积累量显著高于常规池塘,但C、N底泥积累率显著低于常规池塘(P<0.05),分别降低了48.99%和13.97%。零换水池塘养殖鱼类的C、N、P利用率均显著高于常规池塘(P<0.05),分别提高了29.49%、21.72%和20.65%。研究表明,零换水模式能降低营养盐积累,有效提高系统物质利用率,是一种绿色高效养殖模式,具有较好的推广价值。  相似文献

Artemia culture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, is becoming more and more important to satisfy the global demands of cyst production. Nevertheless, Artemia cyst productivity in the Mekong Delta has been fluctuating largely due to not only technical inefficiencies and external factors but also farms’ characteristics. This study employed a data envelopment analysis to evaluate the production efficiencies in correlation with biological and cost inputs of Artemia culture in Vinh Chau and Bac Lieu located in the Mekong Delta. The key factors affecting technical efficiency (TE) were determined using ordinary least squares regression model. The empirical results indicated that production efficiencies of farms in Vinh Chau and Bac Lieu were similar with metatechnology ratios of 0.97 and 0.96 respectively. About 62.8% of surveyed farms were operating in technically inefficient circumstances. Farmers’ experience, educational level and culture technique training participation had positive effects on TE, while climate effects and water problems have been proved to have negative effects on TE. To improve production efficiency, inefficient farms are suggested to have moderately increasing combinations of organic fertilizer, chemical and feed. The use of probiotics should be reduced as it increases production cost and affects TE. Notably, a collaboration of scientists and feed processing companies is recommended to produce a specific formulated feed for Artemia in commercial scales. This study also proposes adaptive policies for local governments and cooperatives to assist coastal famers in the Mekong Delta overcome technical inefficiencies, improve cyst productivity and obtain economic sustainability in Artemia culture.  相似文献
