In northern Vietnam, dairy cattle are mainly managed in small-scale farms, where animals are kept confined and feeding occurs by cut and carry methods. In the present study the occurrence of parasitic infections was examined in five provinces around Hanoi. A total of 201 farms were visited, and 334 stool and 239 blood samples were collected from calves younger than 3 months, animals between 3 and 24 months and adult cows. Furthermore, 254 milk samples were collected from lactating animals. Coproscopical examination indicated a high prevalence of nematode eggs (Cooperia spp., Haemonchus and Oesophagostomum spp.) in animals (n=176) between 3 and 24 months (66%) and in adult cows (n=90; 54%). In these age groups the prevalence of Fasciola was 28% and 39%, respectively, and for Paramphistomum the prevalence was 78% and 82%, respectively. Fifty percent of the calves younger than 3 months (n=68) were positive for Giardia, and none for Cryptosporidium. Most Giardia isolates were identified as the non-zoonotic G. duodenalis assemblage E on the beta-giardin gene. The blood samples were examined with commercially available Svanovir((R))Elisa's for the presence of Anaplasma marginale and Babesia bigemina specific antibodies, and a prevalence of 28% and 54% was found, respectively. In the milk samples Neospora caninum specific antibodies (Svanovir((R))Elisa) were detected in 30% of the lactating animals. The present study demonstrates that parasitic infections occur frequently in dairy cattle around Hanoi although animals are mainly kept confined, and indicates that further research on the economic impact of these infections is needed.  相似文献

The parasitic phase of Anocentor nitens (Neumann) in cattle was studied. Larval stage was present up to 15 days post-infestation (p.i.), concomitant with nymphae from day 8 p.i. Nymphae were observed up to day 23 p.i., adults being seen from day 15 p.i. onwards. Male ticks disclosed active movements from day 17 p.i. and detachment of engorged females began 22 to 24 days p.i. Massive detachment occurred from day 28 p.i. Preferential sites of parasitic stages were ear and neck (lateral side).  相似文献

In May 1985 four groups of 10 calves, aged between four and five months, were turned out on to separate, permanent pastures of equal area which had been seeded during the previous few days with larvae of Dictyocaulus viviparus. One group acted as a control, the second was vaccinated with lungworm vaccine before turnout and treated with thiabendazole three, eight and 13 weeks after turnout, while the third and fourth groups were given ivermectin three times (three, eight and 13 weeks after turnout) and twice (three and eight weeks after turnout), respectively. A severe outbreak of parasitic bronchitis resulted in the death of three control calves within five weeks of turnout and parasitic bronchitis and gastroenteritis affected the second group of calves after approximately four months at pasture. The calves given ivermectin excreted no lungworm larvae and remained free of clinical parasitism throughout the trial.  相似文献

A total of 781 cattle was examined at the Bunia slaughterhouse (Ituri) from August 1986 to December 1987 to study the following parasitic associations: Fasciola sp., Schistosoma sp., paramphistomes and Fasciola sp., Haemonchus sp., Oesophagostomum sp. Prevalences were high for each parasite: 96.5% for paramphistomes, 58.1% for Schistosoma sp., 58.7 to 61.9% for Fasciola sp., 90.5% for Haemonchus sp. and 75.5% for Oesophagostomum sp. Regarding the association with trematodes, 41.3% of the 516 examined animals were simultaneously positive for the three helminths and there was a significant relationship between the infection with Fasciola sp. and Schistosoma sp. Regarding the association with Fasciola sp., Haemonchus sp. and Oesophagostomum sp., a total of 44.5% of the 265 examined animals harboured the three parasites together, but infections seemed not to be linked. Moreover, the corresponding gross lesions were moderate suggesting a low level of the parasitic burdens.  相似文献

Summary Three strategic anthelmintic programmes were evaluated for use in the prophylaxis of parasitic gastroenteritis in naturally infected N’Dama cattle aged 12 to 21 months at Nsukka, eastern Nigeria. Four groups A, B, C and D were used which grazed together and each consisted of seven animals. Group A was treated in April, July, August and December. Group B was dosed in April, August and December and Group C in July, August and September. Group D received no treatments. All three treatment programmes substantially reduced pasture contamination while programmes A and B also resulted in significantly improved weight gains. The potential net profit from the three programmes was 38·0 Naira, 33·10 Naira and 24·74 Naira per head respectively. The early dry season (December) treatment in Groups A and B contributed relatively little to their overall performance but would have minimised the carryover of infection to the following wet season.
Resumen Se evaluaron tres programas estratégicos con antihelmínticos contra la gastroenteritis parasitária en ganado N’dama en edades comprendidas entre 12 y 21 meses, en Nsukka, Oriente de Nigeria. Se utilizaron cuatro grupos de 7 animales cada uno, A, B, C, y D, los cuales pastorearon juntos. El grupo A fue tratado en abril, julio, agosto y diciembre; el B en abril, agosto y diciembre y el C en julio, agosto y septiembre. El grupo D sirvió de control. Todos los tratamientos en general, redujeron sustancialmente la contaminación de los pastos, y los tratamientos A y B produjeron aumentos de peso. La ganancia neta potencial derivada de los tres tratamientos fue de 38·0 naira, 33.10 naira y 24·74 naira respectivamente. El tratamiento al principio de la estación seca (diciembre) en los grupos A y B no contribuyeron significativamente a la productividad, pero minimizó posiblemente la infección parasitária en la siguiente estación húmeda.

Résumé Trois programmes de stratégie anthelmintique destinés à la prophylaxie de la gastroentérite parasitaire chez des bovins N’Dama naturellement infestés agés de 12 à 21 mois, ont été entrepris à NSUKKA, Nigeria oriental. On a utilisé quatre groupes A, B, C et D, composés chacun de sept animaux paturant ensemble. Le groupe A fut traité en avril, juillet, ao?t et décembre; le groupe B en avril, ao?t et décembre; le groupe C en juillet, ao?t et septembre; le groupe D n’a pas re?u de traitement. Tous les traitements ont réduit la contamination du paturage de manière substantielle. Les programmes A et B ont conduit à une augmentation significative des poids corporels. Le bénéfice potentiel net des trois programmes est estimé respectivēment à 38,0 Naira, 33,10 Naira et 24,74 Naira. Le traitement de début de saison sèche (décembre) des groupes A et B a contribué relativement peu à leurs performances globales mais semble avoir diminué le partage parasitaire pour la saison des pluies suivante.

The efficacy of a morantel sustained release bolus was evaluated during the 1980 summer grazing season in 216 yearling, second-season cattle in nine trials in West Germany. In five trials individual farms were used, in which medicated and control groups could be grazed on adjacent pastures. In four additional trials medicated and control groups were maintained on separate farms where the sites and management practice were matched as far as possible. Faecal worm egg counts, herbage larval counts and weight gain were monitored at regular intervals throughout the season. The faecal output of gastrointestinal nematode eggs was reduced by 55.8 percent in the medicated animals during the period from May to early August, while worm egg counts were equal to that of the control animals during the later part of the season. Herbage larval counts were similar on pastures grazed by medicated and nonmedicated cattle. In the five trials where individual farms were used the average daily weight gains over the entire grazing period were 900 (+/- 222) g/animal/day in the medicated group compared with 826 (+/- 263) g/animal in the nonmedicated cattle, a non-significant advantage. No advantage for the treated over the control groups was detected in the additional 4 trials but this was attributed largely to the difficulty in obtaining comparable groups of animals in comparable grazing conditions in "matching" farms, leading to inter-farm variation.  相似文献

A novel intraruminal bolus developed for the sustained delivery of the anthelmintic morantel tartrate was evaluated in the seasonal control of parasitic gastroenteritis in first season grazing calves. The morantel sustained release trilaminate is a trilaminate sheet consisting of a central lamina of a morantel tartrate/ethylene vinyl acetate matrix coated on both sides with a thin impermeable layer of ethylene vinyl acetate. A symmetrical pattern of circular perforations punched through the device controls the release of morantel. Administration of the trilaminate to calves significantly reduced their faecal egg output compared with untreated controls and thus reduced pasture larval contamination. Clinical parasitic gastroenteritis was prevented in the treated calves and there were significant reductions in their worm burdens compared with the untreated control calves both during and at the end of the grazing season. The control of parasitic gastroenteritis resulted in a significantly greater (P less than 0.0001) weight gain, of 45 kg, by the treated calves.  相似文献
