Vaginal and milk temperatures were measured at each milking in 15 postpartum Friesian cows showing recurrent oestrous cycles for a total of 33 oestruses. A significant increase (P<0.001) in both vaginal and milk temperature of 0.29±0.05°C was shown between the milking prior to oestrus and the milking when oestrus occurred. Cows were divided into 3 groups: showing either a definite temperature rise (27% of cases), a limited temperature rise (60%) or no temperature change (13%) associated with oestrus. Various methods of analysis were investigated to determine the usefulness of the milk temperature data for oestrus prediction. The optimum compromise of high oestrus detection rate (73.3±16%) and lowest percentage of false positives (10.8±3.0%) was based on a temperature rise on the day of oestrus of 0.2°C over the corresponding mean temperature of the preceding three days. These rates suggest the measurement of milk temperature is less useful for oestrus prediction than some earlier reports have indicated.  相似文献

Muscarinic and -adrenoceptors were identified in airway epithelium, smooth muscle and lung parenchyma from Holstein-Friesian calves and cows and were characterized with [3H]quinuclidinyl benzilate and [3H]dihydroalprenolol, respectively. The muscarinic receptor density in the smooth muscle of cows (B max=4803±245 fmol/mg protein) was 33% greater (p<0.01) than in calves. Low receptor numbers were detected in the epithelium and parenchyma. In both calves and cows, the density of epithelial -adrenoceptors was twice as high as in smooth muscle and parenchyma. The quantity of -adrenoceptors in the tracheal epithelium (B max=994±83 fmol/mg protein) and smooth muscle (B max=492±41 fmol/mg protein) in cows was respectively 37% (p<0.001) and 35% (p<0.01) lower than in calves. Adenylate cyclase (AC) assays indicated that the basal and the (–)-isopropylnoradrenaline- (ISO-) stimulated cAMP production were not significantly different between the calves and cows. After stimulation with NaF, significantly higher cAMP production was found in all tissues from cows. Significant correlations were found between absolute AC responses to NaF and -adrenoceptor density in epithelium (r=–0.75,p<0.001) and smooth muscle (r=–0.63,p<0.01). It seems that, in older animals, the production of cAMP is independent of the number of receptors, indicating the presence of fully active compensatory mechanisms.Abbreviations AC adenylate cyclase - cAMP intra-cellular adenosine monophosphate - G-protein GTP binding protein - GTP guanosine 5-triphosphate - ISO isopropylnoradrenaline - M muscarine - QNB quinuclidinyl benzilate  相似文献

Oestrus during pregnancy in the cow   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Forty-three oestruses were observed in 35 pregnant cows in one beef suckler herd and 17 dairy herds; at each oestrus the pregnant cow stood willingly to be mounted by another cow or bull. Such oestruses were observed at all stages of pregnancy, although more often between 121 and 240 days, occurred more than once per pregnancy and were also seen in successive pregnancies. On one farm where the dairy cows were observed for four 30 minute periods daily, oestrus was recorded in 5.7 per cent of pregnant cows. The behavioural signs associated with oestrus during pregnancy were indistinguishable from those of true oestrus in non-pregnant animals and although its duration was shorter (mean 5.6 hours), its intensity was comparable to that of the true oestrus. Pregnant cows showing oestrus were usually seen interacting with other oestrous cows in the sexually active group. Pregnant cows showing oestrus had a higher mean condition score (3.9 +/- 0.64) than control pregnant cows (3.0 +/- 0.36). Physiological changes in the genital tract normally associated with true oestrus were not observed in pregnant cows showing oestrus. There was no ovulation or metoestrous bleeding. The characteristics of cervical mucus, including ferning patterns, were similar to those of pregnant cows at the same stage of pregnancy. Hormonal changes associated with oestrus in non-pregnant cows were not observed in the pregnant cows exhibiting oestrus. Seven of nine pregnant cows at oestrus stood willingly to be mounted by a bull. On seven occasions, bulls exposed only to cervical mucus from pregnant cows showing oestrus did not display flehmen.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Data were evaluated from a purebred Holstein herd (n = 1274) kept near Khartoum, a hot and dry area, from 1990 to 1996. The mixed model procedure in SAS was used to analyse the reproductive traits. The mean gestation length, days dry, number of services per conception, days from calving to first oestrus, days from calving to conception, calving interval and breeding efficiency were 279 days, 104 days, 4.2, 85.8 days, 208.9 days, 486.2 days and 74.9%, respectively. Factors that had significant effects (p<0.01) on all the reproductive measures under study were the year and month of calving, and parity. The heritability estimates for all traits under investigation were zero. The repeatability estimates for the numbers of services per conception, days from calving to conception, days from calving to first oestrus and calving interval were 0.21±0.021, 0.12±0.024, 0.03±0.018 and 0.00, respectively. The phenotypic correlation for calving interval with numbers of service per conception was 0.05, that with days from calving to first oestrus was 0.06 and that with days from calving to conception was 0.07. Other correlations ranged from 0.00 to 0.28. The simple correlation coefficients between production and reproductive measures ranged from –0.06 to 0.45.  相似文献

Background

Application of assisted reproductive technologies in buffaloes is limited to some extent by farmers’ inability to detect oestrus because of its poor expression. The present study aimed at investigating reliability of a milk progesterone enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to assess the ovarian cyclicity during post partum, oestrus and post-breeding periods in water buffaloes.

Methods

Progesterone concentrations were measured by an ELISA in milk of 23 postpartum buffaloes in relation to oestrus, pregnancy, body condition score (BCS) and milk production. Two milk samples were taken at 10 days intervals, every month starting from day 30 and continued to day 150 post partum. BCS and milk production were recorded during sample collection. Milk samples from bred buffaloes were collected at Day 0 (day of breeding), Days 10–12 and Days 22–24. Defatted milk was preserved at −80°C until analysis. Pregnancy was confirmed by palpation per rectum on Days 70–90.

Results

Seventeen buffaloes had 47 ovulatory cycles, one to four in each, 13 were detected in oestrus once (28 % oestrus detection rate). Progesterone concentration ≥1 ng/ml in one of the two 10-day-interval milk samples reflected ovulation and corpus luteum formation. The intervals between calving to first luteal activity and to first detected oestrus varied from 41 to 123 days (n = 17) and 83 to 135 (n = 13) days, respectively. Eight buffaloes were bred in the course of the study and seven were found pregnant. These buffaloes had a progesterone profile of low (<1 ng/ml), high (≥ 1 ng/ml) and high (≥ 1 ng/ml) on Day 0, Days 10–12 and Days 22–24, respectively. Buffaloes cycling later in the postpartum period had fewer missed oestruses (P < 0.05). Buffaloes with a superior BCS had a shorter calving to oestrus interval and produced more milk (P < 0.05).

Conclusions

Milk progesterone ELISA is a reliable tool for monitoring ovarian cyclicity and good BCS may be an indicator of resuming cyclicity in water buffalo.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to evaluate an automated activity monitoring (AAM) system for oestrous detection in dairy cows. Specifically, we set out to determine the oestrous detection efficiency and accuracy of the AAM system and to compare reproductive performance of cows detected either by AAM, by visual observation (VO) or by at least 1 of the 2 methods (EOM). A total of 1004 potential cow‐periods from 348 cows were analysed. Oestrous detection rates (EDR) were calculated for 21 day (VWP+21), 42 day (VWP+42), and 63 day (VWP+63) after voluntary waiting period (VWP). Oestrous detection rate did not differ between AAM (42.1%) and VO (37.3%) during VWP+21 (p > 0.05) but was significantly higher in EOM (56.3%, p < 0.05). Oestrous detection by AAM achieved an efficiency (number of correctly detected oestruses/total number of cow‐periods*100) of 35.6% and an accuracy (number of correctly detected oestruses/(number of true+ false oestruses)*100) of 83.8%. Visual observation resulted in an efficiency of 34.3% and accuracy of 75.1%. Pregnancy rate at 200 DIM was higher in AAM (66.8%) and EOM (68.8%) than in VO (57.1%, p < 0.05). Cows detected by AAM (p < 0.05) showed a 1.37 times greater risk to conceive than cows detected by VO as the reference (p < 0.05). The results show that an automated activity monitoring system can support oestrous detection in dairy cattle. The exclusive use of such a system, however, cannot be recommended.  相似文献

In order to evaluate the reproductive effect of a rotational breeding system, the pregnancy rate of 69 Zebu cows was assessed, 32 late postpartum (211±93 days postpartum, LP) and 37 early postpartum (averaging 63±8 days after calving, EP). In the LP group, 60% (19/32) were cycling before exposure to the bulls but only 38% (14/37) in the EP group. The two groups were dissimilar from the start (p<0.05). The cows were exposed in a rotational breeding system, with six Brahman bulls with previous sexual experience paired off in three groups (A–B, C–D and E–F). The cows were exposed to each pair of bulls for a period of 3 weeks, with one week in between each period, when the females were without the presence of a male. In the LP group, the pair of bulls A–B obtained a pregnancy rate of 72% (23/32), whereas for bulls C–D the pregnancy rate was 33% (3/9) and for bulls E–F the pregnancy rate was 67% (4/6). In contrast, for the EP cows, bulls A–B obtained a pregnancy rate of 32% (12/37), bulls C–D a pregnancy rate of 67% (12/18) and for bulls E–F a pregnancy rate of 55% (6/11). The percentage pregnancy obtained using the pair of bulls A–B differed (p<0.05) between LP and EP, whereas for bulls C–D and E–F it was similar. The pregnancy rate was different (p<0.05) in the first 3 weeks of mating for the LP group, the highest number of cows becoming pregnant during the first 3 weeks of the study. In contrast, the highest number of pregnancies in EP occurred evenly during the last 6 weeks. This study suggests that the reproductive performance of pairs of bulls in a 9-week rotational programme with the overall pregnancy rate is similar (94% in the LP and 81% in the EP). However, the time taken for the females to become pregnant, and hence the performance of the bulls, is related to the average number of days postpartum for the cows.  相似文献

This study tested a model for predicting reproductive status from in-line milk progesterone `measurements. The model is that of Friggens and Chagunda [Theriogenology 64 (2005) 155]. Milk progesterone measurements (n = 55 036) representing 578 lactations from 380 cows were used to test the model. Two types of known oestrus were identified: (1) confirmed oestrus (at which insemination resulted in a confirmed pregnancy, n = 121) and (2) ratified oestrus (where the shape of the progesterone profile matched that of the average progesterone profile of a confirmed oestrus, n = 679). The model detected 99.2% of the confirmed oestruses. This included a number of cases (n = 16) where the smoothed progesterone did not decrease below 4 ng/ml. These cows had significantly greater concentrations of progesterone, both minimum and average, suggesting that between cow variation exists in the absolute level of the progesterone profile. Using ratified oestruses, model sensitivity was 93.3% and specificity was 93.7% for detection of oestrus. Examination of false positives showed that they were largely associated with low concentrations of progesterone, fluctuating around the 4 ng/ml threshold. The distribution of time from insemination until the model detected pregnancy failure had a median of 22 days post-insemination. In this test, the model was run using limited inputs, the potential benefits of including additional non-progesterone information were not evaluated. Despite this, the model performed at least as well as other oestrus detection systems.  相似文献

The objective of the experiment was to compare the reproductive post-partum performance of beef cows synchronized for oestrus using prostaglandin F2 (PGF2) alone or with a gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-based drug. Fifty-five post-partum lactating Tuli cows were randomly allocated to three groups. Two groups were synchronized using either two injections of PGF2 (500 g Prosolvin per injection) given 11 days apart (group 1), or GnRH (12.5 g Receptal per injection) followed 6 days later by an injection of 500 g PGF2 (group 2). The cows were bred by artificial insemination 12 h after they were observed in oestrus. Group 3 was synchronized as for group 2, but a second injection of GnRH was given 54 h after the PGF2 injection, at which time the cows were bred by artificial insemination (AI) without detection of oestrus. Blood samples were taken from the cows in group 3 and analysed for progesterone concentration to establish which cows were cycling and in oestrus before and at the time of breeding. Detection of oestrus and breeding by AI was done over 60 days. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) among the three groups in the first service and total conception rates. The percentage of cows in oestrus within 10 days of the synchronization treatment was not significantly different (p>0.05) between groups 1 and 2. The progesterone concentrations in the cows in group 3 showed that only those that were cycling at the start of the experiment responded to the synchronization treatment and conceived after fixed-time breeding. These results suggest that combinations of PGF2 and GnRH may be of value in synchronizing oestrus and controlling breeding in Tuli cows. However, the benefit might be greater if only cows that are known to be cycling are bred in this way.  相似文献

The chiral inversion of ketoprofen has been previously demonstrated in cattle, but no studies have been performed on different ages and metabolic situations in the animals. The aim of this work was to study any modifications of the stereoconversion of ketoprofen that occur by reason of age, lactation or gestation in dairy cows. Holando Argentino cattle were divided into three groups: 8 cows in early lactation, 8 pregnant cows and 8 newborn calves. Four animals from each group received the enantiomer R-(–)-ketoprofen by intravenous administration; the other four animals received the S-(+) enantiomer, all at doses of 0.5 mg/kg. Blood samples were collected at standardized times after dosing and assayed for ketoprofen by high-performance reversed-phase liquid chromatography (HPLC). The percentage inversion of R-(–)-ketoprofen to S-(+)-ketoprofen was 50.5% (SD ± 2.4) in the preruminants, 33.3% (SD ± 1.7) in cows in early lactation and 26.0% (SD ± 5.1) in cows in gestation. These results indicate a differing enantioselective metabolic behaviour for one compound in one species under different physiological situations.  相似文献

The lowest value for plasma protein bound iodine (PBI) (3.47 g%) in 20 freshly calved Murrah buffaloes was observed on day 1 postpartum. The values then increased consistently up to day 36 and were almost constant thereafter. The plasma progesterone concentrations were lower in animals with relatively low PBI from day 22 to 57 postpartum, except on day 36. The mean values ± SE (ng/ml) in the high and low PBI groups were 0.93±0.09 and 0.72±0.15. The correlation coefficient between PBI and progesterone was 0.80 (p<0.01). Relatively poor reproductive efficiency, in terms of a higher initiation of follicular development interval, postpartum oestrus interval, service period and number of services for conception, was observed in animals in the low PBI group.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime in lactating and non-lactating cows   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime (CAZ) were studied in lactating (LTG) and non-lactating (NLTG) cows. Two groups (LTG and NLTG) of 5 healthy dairy cows were given ceftazidime (10 mg/ kg body weight) intravenously (i.v.) and intramuscularly (i.m.). Serum and milk (LTG) and serum samples (NLTG) were collected over a 24-h period post-administration. CAZ concentrations in serum and milk were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography, and an interactive and weighted-non-linear least-squares regression analysis was used to perform the pharmacokinetic analysis. The pharmacokinetic profiles in LTG and NLTG cows which had received CAZ i.v. fitted a three-compartment model and a two-compartment model, respectively. The CAZ concentration-time curves in serum and the area under the curve were greater and more sustained (p<0.05) in the LTG cows by both routes, while the serum clearance (Cls=72.5±18.1 ml/h per kg) was lower (p<0.05) than that in the NLTG cows (Cls=185.9±44.2 ml/h per kg). CAZ given i.v. exhibited a relatively long half-life of elimination (t 1/2 (LTG)=1.1±0.2 h; t 1/2 (NLTG)=1.4±0.3 h). Compared with other cephalosporins, CAZ had good penetration into the mammary gland (47.7±38.2% for CAZ i.v.; 51.1±39.0% for CAZ i.m.). Finally, the bioavailability of CAZ (F(LTG)=98.9±36.8%; F(NLTG)=77.1±25.3%) was suitable for its use by the i.m. route in lactating and non-lactating cows.Abbreviations AIC Akaike information criterion - AUC area under the curve - b.w. body weight - CAZ ceftazidime - Cls total serum clearance - C max peak serum concentration - COM compartment open model - i.m. intramuscular(ly) - i.v. intravenous(ly) - LTG lactating - K rate constant - 1 central compartment - 2 peripheral compartment - 3 deep compartment - NLTG nonlactating - t max time of peak serum concentration - t 1/2 half-life  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of some aids for detectiong oestrus in 72 Bunaji cows synchronized using two injections of prostaglandin F2 (PGF2) 13 days apart. Blood samples to determine the accuracy of the aids and ovarian activity by radioimmunoassay technique were collected daily from the day of the second PGF2 injection until oestrus or for 168 hours for `non-responders'. The aids for detecting oestrus, tail painting, KaMar detectors and a chin-ball mating device (CMD) were applied at the time of the second injection. The oestrus response rate was 73.6% and 61.1%, from the serum progesterone concentration and visual observation, respectively. Based on the total number of oestrus events observed, unaided visual observation, tail painting, KaMar and CMD detected 52.2%, 82.6%, 82.6% and 76.8%, respectively. Visual observation of standing oestrus alone failed to detect 47.8% of the occurrence of oestrus as shown by the concentration of progesterone in the serum and 30.4%, 30.4% and 24.6%, respectively, of the oestrus periods recorded by tail painting, KaMar and CMD. Twenty-eight cows showed abnormalities in progesterone concentration. These investigations showed that oestrus may be detected by using the aids in cows that have been regarded as `anoestrous' by visual observation of standing heat.  相似文献

The absence of fertility problems in male dogs after a single treatment with deslorelin acetate (Suprelorin®) is well acknowledged. However, reports on the application of deslorelin in the bitch and information concerning fertility after implant treatment are still limited. In this retrospective study, data concerning induced and spontaneous oestruses of 39 bitches from 17 breeds, treated with deslorelin acetate implants (4.7 mg Suprelorin®, Virbac, France), were retrieved to assess post‐treatment fertility (ovulation rate, pregnancy rate and litter size). Animals were grouped according to treatment characteristics: group 1 (Gr1) – females submitted to oestrus induction, showing natural oestruses afterwards (n = 19); group 2 (Gr2) – females re‐implanted with 4.7 mg deslorelin acetate to re‐induce oestrus, showing subsequent spontaneous post‐implant oestruses (n = 7); and group 3 (Gr3) – females submitted to a 4.7 mg deslorelin acetate implant for oestrus suppression, evaluated at subsequent spontaneous post‐implant oestruses (n = 13). Comparison of fertility traits between induced and post‐treatment spontaneous oestruses in Gr1 and Gr2 (short treatments), or between spontaneous oestruses after long‐treatment schedules (Gr 3) revealed a slightly better performance in spontaneous cycles compared with induced cycles: ovulation rate post‐treatment was 97.1%, 94.1% and 94.4% and the pregnancy rate post‐treatment was 91.2%, 88.9% and 84.6% for groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Nevertheless, fertility in induced and post‐treatment oestruses was considered normal. Moreover, the individual litter size did not differ within groups between induced and spontaneous cycles. From these findings, we concluded that treatment with 4.7 mg deslorelin implants did not compromise the bitches' fertility in subsequent oestruses.  相似文献

The hepatic mitochondrial carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT) activity was measured by fluorimetric assay in dairy cows with or without fatty liver. CPT activities in 13 lactating cattle and in 6 non-lactating cows were 304.4±86.6 mol CoA/min per g protein and 169.3±84.8 mol CoA/min per g protein, respectively. This difference was significant (<0.05). CPT activities in early lactation (0–110 days after calving), mid-lactation (111–220 days after calving) and late lactation (over 220 days after calving) were 278.9±68.0, 312.4±124.1 and 320±59.3 mol CoA/min per g protein, respectively. There was no significant difference between the values at different stages of lactation. The CPT activity in 10 lactating cows with fatty liver unrelated to calving was 201.3±80.0 mol CoA/min per g protein. CPT activity in 10 cattle with fatty liver was significantly lower than that in normal lactating cattle. Based on these findings, clinical fatty liver unrelated to calving appears to be associated with a decrease in hepatic CPT activity.  相似文献

The efficiency of treatments for unobserved oestrus and their effect on the reproductive performance of a dairy cattle herd with low oestrous detection rate till 60 days post‐partum (dpp), attributed to the declivous and slippery concrete floor were investigated. The herdsman requested advice in order to improve the mean days open of the herd, but no investments were allowed because a new unit was about to be built. Due to the low oestrus detection rate of the herd, the breeding policy was to inseminate at the first detected post‐partum oestrus. Cows were examined at 20–30 dpp to assess uterine involution, ovarian activity and prevalence of reproductive disorders and, at 60 dpp if no previous oestrus was detected. Each examination included palpation per rectum, ultrasound scanning and collection of a blood sample for plasma progesterone (P4) measurement. Cows with unobserved oestrus till 60 dpp were allocated either to a treatment group (n=139) or to a control group (n=139). Three treatments were used: (a) injection of PGF (PG) upon detection of a corpus luteum (CL; n = 30), cows not observed in oestrus being re‐injected 11–12 days later. AI was at oestrus; (b) PRID (n=35) or Crestar (n=74) devices kept in situ for 12 and 9 days, respectively, were associated to an injection of PG and of equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG) at device removal. Cows were double‐fixed time‐inseminated at 48 and 72 h after device removal. All treated cows were examined at 48–72 h after treatment to confirm oestrus. The percentage of cows detected in oestrus up to 60 dpp remained unchanged through the trial (35 and 47% for years before intervention: 1994–95; 51 and 48% for years of intervention: 1996–97). In contrast, the oestrous detection rate was high both in treated (93%) and control (100%) cows. This possibly resulted from an improvement in the oestrous detection efficiency of the herd's personnel and from examination of cows at 48–72 h after treatment. Treated and control cows had identical conception rate (CR; 36 and 37%, respectively) and reproductive performance. However, the mean days open of the herd in 1996 was significantly improved in comparison with previous years (mean ± SEM: 134 ± 6, 126 ± 5, 110 ± 4 and 114 ± 5 days, for years 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997, respectively, p < 0.05, ANOVA ). Conception rate to AI up to 40 dpp was significantly reduced, compared with the period between 60 and 100 dpp but, mean days open were significantly improved in cows inseminated up to 60 dpp, compared with thereafter (p < 0.05).  相似文献

We assessed the effect of an anionic salt and supplementary administration of vitamin E and Se throughout the dry period, on the risk of retained fetal membranes (RFM), milk yield and reproductive performance of dairy cows. Data were collected from 456 dairy cows in three commercial farms. Each animal entering the dry period was assigned to one of two groups (treated and control group). All animals were then fed the same ration, which included 80 IU/kg vitamin E acetate and 0.2 ppm Se, but animals of the treated group also received an additional blend containing ammonium chloride (60 g), vitamin E [1000 IU (dl-α-tocopheryl acetate)] and Se (0.05 ppm). Calving ease was evaluated and no manual removal of placenta was attempted. Cows that retained their fetal membranes for more than 12 h after calving were considered to suffer from RFM. All animals experienced a 50-day voluntary waiting period before the first artificial insemination (AI). Treatment resulted in a decrease in the estimated average risk of RFM (10.6% vs 17.8%). Stratifying on farm the Mantel–Haenszel Relative Risk (MH-RR) estimate of RFM in treated animals relative to controls was 1.68 (95% confidence interval, CI, 1.05 to 2.68) and the Mantel–Haenszel test P-value was 0.028. Among cows that had not required assistance during delivery the average risk of RFM was greater for those without treatment (risk estimate: 10/208 or 9.7%) as compared to those with treatment (risk estimate: 20/207 or 4.8%). The MH-RR estimate of RFM in treated vs. control animals was 2.95 the respective 95% CI: (0.96 to 4.17) and the MH test of association P-value was 0.058). Conversely, among cows that did require assistance during calving, the average risk of RFM estimates were 77.8% (14/18) and 91.3% (21/23) in treated and non-treated animals, respectively (MH-relative risk estimate of RFM = 1.21, 95%CI: 0.91 to 1.60). Using analysis of variance with farm as a random effect, treatment did not appear to have an effect on milk production of cows without RFM either at 30 or 60 days postpartum (P > 0.10). Time intervals (in days) between parturition and first oestrus expression (POI), parturition and first AI (PFAI) and parturition and conception (PCI) were recorded for each animal. For each time-to-event variable, survivor functions were estimated for treated and control groups using the Kaplan–Meier methodology and survival curves of treated and control groups were compared using the log-rank test, separately for the animals that did or did not experience RFM in each farm. There were significant differences in the time-to-event survival curves in only one of the three farms. Median time between parturition and first oestrus expression among animals without RFM was 67 days in treated animals and 75 in control animals, and the survival curves were statistically significantly different (P = 0.021). Similarly, in the same farm, among animals that did not experience RFM the median time between parturition and conception was 114 in treated animals and 145 in controls, and the survival curves were statistically significantly different (P = 0.002). In conclusion, daily administration of a blend containing ammonium chloride, vitamin E and Se throughout the dry period seems to be safe and resulted in a decrease of RFM occurrence, without any effect on milk yield.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of a slow-release theophylline formulation was investigated following intravenous and oral administration at 10 mg/kg in horses. A tricompartmental model was selected to describe the intravenous plasma profile. The elimination half-life (t1/2) was 16.91 ± 0.93 h, the apparent volume of distribution (V d) was 1.35 ± 0.18 L/kg and the body clearance (ClB) was 0.061 ± 0.009 L kg–1 h. After oral administration the half-life of absorption was 1.24 ± 0.30 h, and the calculated bioavailability was above 100%. Thet1/2 after oral administration was 18.51 ± 1.75 h, only a little longer than that after intravenous administration. The slow release formulation did not exhibit any advantage in prolonging thet1/2 of theophylline in the horse.  相似文献

Shortened and weakened oestrous signs in dairy cows may cause a failure of oestrus detection and artificial insemination timing error leading to poor reproductive performance. The aims of this study were to investigate the duration of standing oestrus in high-producing dairy cows under a free stall system, to determine the duration of expression of secondary oestrous signs before and after standing oestrus (Expt 1) and to compare the duration and intensity of oestrus between cows and heifers (Expt 2). Cattle were checked for primary and secondary oestrous signs at an interval of 4 h. Heat detection aids were also used. In Expt 1, of 56 cows which were detected in oestrus, 36 cows (64.3%) showed standing oestrus and other 20 cows (36.6%) showed secondary oestrous signs only. Duration of the standing oestrus was 6.6 +/- 6.3 h on average (+/-SD), ranging between 2 and 32 h. The cows in standing oestrus showed secondary oestrous signs during a period from 9.6 +/- 8.1 h before onset of standing to 18.4 +/- 18.8 h after the end of standing oestrus. In the cows that did not show standing oestrus, expression of secondary oestrous signs were observed for 25.7 +/- 20.5 h, which was 7.5 h shorter than the average duration of oestrus in cows showing standing oestrus. In Expt 2, nine (82%) of the 11 lactating cows in oestrus showed standing, while all the 10 heifers exhibited standing oestrus. Average duration of standing oestrus was 6.4 +/- 4.3 h in cows and 6.2 +/- 3.9 h in heifers, respectively. It may be concluded that the duration of standing oestrus is substantially shortened in lactating dairy cows, and more than one-third of cows did not show standing oestrus. In cows showing standing oestrus, duration of expression of secondary oestrous signs before and after standing is not shortened. Duration of standing oestrus in heifers was as short as that in cows.  相似文献

Aims: To determine the reproductive performance of cows diagnosed as anoestrus prior to the planned start of mating (PSM) when they were either treated when first diagnosed, or left untreated until 16 days after the PSM.

Methods: A clinical trial was conducted during the 1996/97 and 1997/98 breeding seasons involving 823 anoestrous dairy cows in 14 herds. On Day-8 (PSM = Day 0), cows in one group (Treated) were each treated with an intravaginal device containing 1.9 g of progesterone (CIDR).The CIDR device was removed on Day-2, and on Day-1 each cow was injected intramuscularly with 1 mg oestradiol benzoate. Cows in the second group (Control) remained untreated at the time of first examination. All cows detected in oestrus after the PSM were mated by artificial insemination (AI) or a bull. Sixteen days after the PSM, all cows that had not been mated were presented for veterinary examination, and those which were still classified as anoestrus were treated with the previously described CIDR regimen. Pregnancy status and approximate date of conception were determined by palpation per rectum 10-13 weeks after the PSM or 6 weeks after the end of the mating period.

Results: Treatment of anoestrous cows 8 days before the PSM significantly increased the number of cows detected in oestrus (95.0% vs 63.1%;p < 0.001) and conceiving (59.5% vs 38.8%;p < 0.001) during the first 21 days of mating, and reduced the interval from PSM to conception by 7.5 days (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference between the conception rate of cows mated following the CIDR treatment regimen compared to cows mated at their first spontaneous oestrus after calving (52.4% vs 58.3%; p = 0.143).

Conclusion: Diagnosis and treatment of anoestrous dairy cows prior to the start of mating significantly improves their reproductive performance under the seasonal mating conditions typical of spring-calving New Zealand dairy herds.  相似文献
