Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) were evaluated as an ingredient in practical diets for pond culture of the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii . Juvenile prawns averaging 0.66 ± 0.47 g were stocked into nine 0.02 ha ponds at 19,760/ha. Three isonitrogenous diets (29% crude protein) containing 0, 20, or 40% DDGS were fed to shrimp in triplicate ponds. Average yield, survival, individual weight, and feed conversion did not differ significantly ( P > 0.05) among treatments. When averaged over the three diets, results were: yield, 833 kg/ha; survival, 75%; individual weight, 57 B; and feed conversion, 3.1. It appears that DDGS is a suitable ingredient for use in practical diets for freshwater prawns at levels of up to 40% of the total formulation, when prawns are stocked at the densities used in this study.  相似文献

Abstract

Copper sulfate is an algicide that is commonly used for phytoplankton and filamentous algae control and has been used as a therapeutant in aquaculture. The objectives of this study were to determine the acute toxicity of copper sulfate and the safe level for use in freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, production ponds in a high calcium and alkalinity environment. Six concentrations of copper sulfate (0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 mg/L) were tested in 8-L glass aquaria for 48 hours with three replicate aquaria per treatment. Concentrations of calcium hardness and alkalinity were set at 100 mg/L using calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate, respectively. After 48 hours, survival of the control treatment (0% CuSO4) averaged 97%, which was significantly higher (P< 0.05) than that of all other treatments. The survival in the 0.2 mg/L and 0.4 mg/L (70% and 73%, respectively) concentrations of CuSO4 were significantly greater (P< 0.05) than higher dose treatments; but were not significantly different from each other (P> 0.05). Treatments containing 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0-mg/L copper sulfate demonstrated a dramatic decrease in prawn survival, which averaged 30, 7, and 0%, respectively. Regression analysis of the data predicted 48-hour LC50 for copper sulfate tobe0.46 mg/L. Since recommended application rates for use of copper sulfate as an algicide are 1.0 mg/L or more for water with alkalinities of 100 mg/L, copper sulfate treatments are not recommended for prawn production ponds.  相似文献

Chemical compositions and thermal properties of cultured freshwater prawn meat (FPM) were studied. FPM contained 83.2% protein (dry basis), 62.7% of which was myofibrillar protein. Pepsin-soluble collagen (PSC) and insoluble collagen (ISC) contents were 0.63 and 0.32%, respectively. Both collagens were similar to type V collagen from porcine placenta. Glutamic acid/glutamine, arginine, aspartic acid/?asparagine, and lysine were abundant amino acids in FPM. Glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and aspartic acid/?asparagine were predominant in both collagens. FPM exhibited thermal transition temperatures (Tmax) of 48.3 and 64.7°C, whereas Tmax of PSC and ISC were 43.0 and 46.0°C, respectively. Textural changes in FPM during post-mortem storage on ice are plausibly dependent upon its compositional and thermal properties.  相似文献

Under production conditions freshwater prawns Macrobrachium rosenbergii are supplied nutrients by a combination of prepared diets and natural pond organisms. For maximum production efficiency and profitability it is important that the nutritional contributions of natural foods be identified and quantified. In this study the relative importance of forage organisms previously identified as important natural foods for prawns in ponds were evaluated under controlled conditions. Juvenile prawns (average weight 1.80 ± 0.06 g) were stocked into 18 37.5-L aquaria at a density of 10 prawns per tank. The six dietary treatments tested were: 1) unfed (negative control); 2) commercially prepared diet (positive control); 3) oligo-chaetes; 4) chironomids; 5) zooplankton; and 6) a combination of the latter three. Each treatment was evaluated in triplicate aquaria for 7 wk. The growth rate of prawns in the unfed treatment was statistically lower than in fed treatments ( P < 0.05). There were no significant differences ( P > 0.05) between growth rates and survivals among prawns in the five fed treatments. Selective retention of arachidonic acid (20:4n-6), eicosapentanoic acid (22: 5n-3), and docosahexanenoic acid (22:6n-3) in unfed prawns likely indicates the relative nutritional importance of these fatty acids. Comparisons of whole-body fatty acid and amino acid concentrations of prawns and food organisms indicate that zooplankton and oligochaetes may have the most appropriate biochemical compositions as prawn food sources.  相似文献

This paper deals with production systems, cost structure, and profitability of freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, farming in a new area of Mymensingh district in the north‐central part of Bangladesh. In the study area, prawn farming practice is still extensive, and only a few farmers (20%) cultivate semiintensively. The costs and returns of extensive and semiintensive farming systems are compared. All farmers in different farming systems made a profit, with seed and feed dominating variable costs. Considerable variation in production costs and profitability was observed. Based on the Cobb–Douglas production function model, return to scale indicates that there is scope to increase production and income from prawn farms in extensive and semiintensive systems by applying more inputs (i.e., seed, feed, and fertilizer).  相似文献

从濒死的罗氏沼虾体内分离到菌株M rM0602,经形态学观察及API 20E鉴定系统鉴定为嗜水气单胞菌。人工感染健康罗氏沼虾,100%致死剂量为1.0×104cfu/m l,半致死剂量(LD50)为3.16×103cfu/m l。测定菌株M rM0602的胞外产物对小鼠和新西兰大白兔红细胞的溶血活性,表明胞外产物对小鼠红细胞有微弱的溶血活性,对新西兰兔红细胞无溶血活性。胞外蛋白酶活力测定显示,菌株M rM0602胞外产物具有很高的蛋白酶活力,且耐热性很强,65℃仍保持较高活性。常规药物敏感性试验表明,菌株M rM0602对环丙沙星和恩诺沙星高度敏感。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In temperate regions, post-larvae freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, are grown to more advanced sizes in tanks prior to pond stocking. This intermediate stage of culture is referred to as the nursery period. Little research has been conducted on different management practices on juvenile prawn growth and survival during this 30-60 day period. Survival during the nursery stage has been highly variable and may be related to the cannibalistic behavior of juvenile freshwater prawn when cultured at high densities in the nursery. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of stocking density, relative to the provision of artificial substrate (number of prawns/m2 of substrate), on growth, survival, and economic variables for freshwater prawn juveniles during nursery production. Post-larvae (0.01%0.00 g, n = 300) were stocked into nine 1900 L tanks, each provided with 20.5 m2 of artificial substrate in the form of horizontal layers of black plastic mesh (10 mm) spaced 5 cm apart. Tanks were randomly assigned one of three prawn densities (215, 430, or 860 post-larvae/m2 of substrate), which equated to 2.3,4.6 and 9.2 prawn/L, respectively. Juvenile prawn were fed a commercial trout diet (42% protein) at a percentage of body weight according to a feed rate table. Water quality was maintained using a flow rate of 8 L/min in each tank from a reservoir pond. Temperature was maintained at approximately 28°C using heat pumps. After 56 days there was no significant difference (P >0.05) in average weight of juvenile prawn stocked at the three densities (0 = 0.58%0.12 g, n = 9). Survival was significantly lower (P <0.05) for prawn stocked at 860 m2 (62%) than in those stocked at 430/m2 (78%) and 215/m2 (94%), which were not statistically different (P >0.05). Even with reduced survival, the highest stocking density produced the greatest number of nursed juveniles based on both tank volume (5.5/l) and surface area (530/m2), at the lowest average cost.  相似文献

将单口面积1.33~2.33hm~2、环境相似的6口罗氏沼虾养殖池塘分为2组,3口池塘投喂蛋白质水平为35.4%的饲料,且每日适量泼洒糖蜜(试验组),3口池塘投喂蛋白质水平为41.9%的饲料,不泼洒糖蜜(对照组),常规管理。养殖期间,每隔15d取水样检测氨氮和亚硝态氮含量。156d的饲养结果表明,对照组和试验组罗氏沼虾的产量分别为6600kg/hm~2和6427.5kg/hm~2,降低饲料中的蛋白水平结合泼洒糖蜜不影响罗氏沼虾的生长(P0.05),养殖效益亦无显著差异(P0.05)。但试验组池塘水中氨氮较对照组低54.0%,亚硝态氮低21.0%,泼洒糖蜜显著降低了池塘氨氮和亚硝态氮含量(P0.05)。  相似文献

Juvenile freshwater prawns Mucrobruchium rosenkrgii (mean wet weight = 0.75, 1986 or 0.17g, 1985) were stocked into 0.06–0.07 ha earthen ponds at densities ranging from 39,536 to 118,608/ha during two separate growing seasons. After growout periods ranging from 135 to 142 days, survival was from 54.3% to 89.9% (x = 77.0%). Mean prawn weight at harvest ranged from 15.0 to 44.3g and decreased with increasing stocking density. The larger stocking weight of prawns was associated with harvest weights that were 16.8 to 39.6% greater than those achieved with the smaller stocking weight at comparable stocking densities. Stocking of juveniles of the proper size and the effective management of the social structure of M. rosenkrgii appear to be critical to the success of intensive pond culture in temperate climates where the length of the growing season is restricted.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Dopamine at concentrations of 0.15, 1.5, and 15.0 mg/kg was included in two different formulated diets that were fed to recently metamorphosed postlarvae of the freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, for 60 days. Dopamine, in the form of dopamine hydrochlo-ride, was incorporated into the formulated diets by either solubilizing it in alcohol, followed by submersion of diet and evaporation, or inclusion in a lipid premix ingredient. The alcohol evaporation method at 0.15, 1.5, and 15.0 mg/kg significantly increased the percentage of individuals without external male characteristics. This research is the first reported use of dietary administration of dopamine to crustaceans, and the first documentation of the apparent dietary control of gonadal development and sex differentiation in crustaceans. Replication of results, a histological examination of a large sample of individuals, and continued monitoring of those individuals fed the dietary dopamine are needed to verify the apparent effect.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the performance of new egg custard formula to replace Artemia sp. on the growth and survival of the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, larvae. Five experimental diets were tested with triplicate treatments: ART (Artemia sp.), ART‐MIX (Artemia sp. + egg custard MIX: a mixture of shrimp, squid, and bivalve meal‐based egg custard, with palm oil), ART‐PBM (Artemia sp. + PBM, poultry byproduct meal‐based egg custard with fish oil), egg custard MIX only, and egg custard PBM only. All experimental diets were tested after 9 d (stage VI) of feeding Artemia sp. to prawn larvae. The stocking density was set at 100 larvae/L in a clear water tank culture system. Results indicated that the highest survival was recorded in the treatment of ART‐PBM (46.07 ± 0.84%) and the lowest was in the MIX treatment (8.87 ± 0.51%). ART‐PBM and ART‐MIX diets successfully reduced the rearing period and improved survival from larval to postlarval stage by 19 and 65%, respectively, compared with the ART diet. However, the use of MIX and PBM alone increased the rearing period up to 11%. The feeding regime of ART‐PBM and ART‐MIX has provided nutritional advantages and can be successfully practiced in the hatchery of M. rosenbergii larvae. The innovative approach of using PBM and palm oil in the egg custard formulation in this study can provide prawn hatchery operators with more options in terms of dietary ingredients and cost‐effective solutions.  相似文献

Abstract

After harvest, adult prawn are often transported for sales to live markets, such as ethnic Asian outlets, in major urban centers. Poor survival during transportation has hindered development and expansion of these markets. Methodologies to increase survival during transport could contribute to industry viability. Three independent trials were conducted. In the first trial, three biomass densities (25, 50 and 100 g/L) were evaluated in 100-L, open plastic containers aerated with pure oxygen and compressed air. Water quality analyses were performed prior to stocking. After 24 hours in the model transport containers, water quality analysis was conducted and all prawn were removed, determined to be alive or dead, and each group weighed and counted. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) for prawn survival (overall mean 98%) among the three densities. Concentrations of dissolved oxygen and nitrite were not effected by hauling density (P < 0.05). Total ammonia-nitrogen and un-ionized ammonia-nitrogen concentrations increased (P < 0.05) as biomass densities increased, though values remained within what are considered tolerable ranges. In the second trial, the effect of added substrate and temperature on transport survival was evaluated with prawns stocked at the high density (100 g/L). Two water temperatures (21°C and 26°C) with and without substrate were evaluated in a 2 × 2 factorial with three replicate, 100-L model transport containers per treatment combination (12 containers total). Factorial analysis indicated no significant statistical interaction (P > 0.05) between the presence of substrate and water temperature on any measured variable. The main effects of substrate and temperature were then analyzed separately. The presence or absence of substrate had no significant impact (P > 0.05) on prawn survival. However, temperature had a highly significantly impact (P < 0.01) on survival; prawn survival at 21°C averaged 97% compared to 24% at 26°C. The third trial was a commercial verification trial in which 500 kg of live prawn were transported to New York from Kentucky. These data indicate prawn can be successfully transported at 100 g/L for 24 hours when temperatures are maintained near 21°C. Adding substrate to the transport tank appears to provide no benefit.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted for 60 d in a recirculatory system consisting of 20 glass aquariums (each of size 41 × 41 × 46 cm) to evaluate meat and bone meal (MBM) as partial replacement for fish meal (FM) in Macrobrachium rosenbergii postlarvae (PLs) with a view to develop an inexpensive nursery diet. Three nursery diets were formulated to contain 32% protein and to be as isoenergetic as possible. FM in these diets was progressively replaced with MBM (Diet 1 contained 25% FM and 14% MBM, Diet 2 contained 20% FM and 20% MBM, and Diet 3 contained 15% FM and 26% MBM). Inclusion levels of mustard oilcake and sesame meal in diets were kept fixed at 10%. A commercial shrimp nursery diet (30% protein) from Saudi Bangla Fish Feed Ltd., Mymensingh, was used as the reference diet (Diet 4). Each treatment had three replicates. PLs of M. rosenbergii (26 ± 0.02 mg) were stocked at the rate of 60 PLs (1 PL/L) in each aquarium. At the beginning, PLs were fed three times daily at a rate of 20% of the body weight and it was gradually reduced to 10% at Day 30. The ranges of water quality parameters in the system were as follows: temperature, 27–29 C; dissolved oxygen, 6.5–8.4 mg/L; pH, 6.8–8.3; and total ammonia, 0.01–0.15 mg/L. The result of the study showed that there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the weight gains of PLs fed Diet 1 (containing 14% MBM) and Diet 4 (reference diet) but was significantly higher than other dietary groups containing higher levels of MBM. Diets 1 and 4 showed significantly lower (P < 0.05) apparent food conversion ratios (1.74 and 1.73, respectively). The survival (%) of PLs ranged between 62 and 76% with PLs fed Diets 1 and 4 showing significantly higher (P < 0.05) survival. The result of the study demonstrated that the MBM could be included at 14% level in a nursery diet, and a diet containing 25% FM, 14% MBM, 10% sesame meal, and 10% mustard oilcake may be recommended for profitable production of PLs of M. rosenbergii.  相似文献

Three genetic strains (Texas [cultured], Hawaii [cultured], and Myanmar [wild]) of freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, were characterized and compared under two pond grow‐out management technologies using a 3 × 2 factorial design. Juvenile prawns (45 d nursed juveniles) from each strain were stocked at individual average weights of 0.4 ± 0.3 g (Texas), 0.3 ± 0.2 g (Hawaii), and 0.3 ± 0.2 g (Myanmar). The low input management technology prawns were stocked at 24,700 /ha with no added substrate. The high input management technology prawns were stocked at 74,100 /ha with the addition of artificial substrate. Each of the six treatment combinations were replicated in three, 0.04 ha earthen ponds (total of 18 ponds). Prawns were fed a sinking pellet (32% protein) once daily at a standardized rate. After 112 d, prawns were harvested, bulk weighed, and counted. Survival of Texas strain (95%) was significantly higher (P ≤ 0.05) than Myanmar strain (77–80%) under both management technologies with survival of Hawaii strain (86–91%) intermediate and not significantly different (P > 0.05) from other strains. Under both management technologies, average weight, total production, and marketable percentage (>20 g) was significantly better (P ≤ 0.05) in Texas and Hawaii strains in comparison to the Myanmar strain. These data appear to indicate that the cultured strains evaluated in this study demonstrate positive impacts of domestication and do not indicate inbreeding depression.  相似文献

Post-larval and juvenile Macrobrachium rosenbergii were exposed for 72 h at 29 C to four pH levels (8.5, 9.0, 9.5, 10.0) and four concentrations of un-ionized ammonia-nitrogen (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/L NHj-N). Results indicated potentiation between NH3 and high pH. Juveniles were more tolerant of high pH and NH3 than post-larvae.
For post-larvae, estimates of 72 h LC50 for pH were 9.43, 9.21, and 8.71 at 0, 1, and 2 mg/L NH3-N, respectively; 72 h LC50 estimates for NH3-N were 2.18 and 1.45 mg/L at pH levels of 8.5 and 9.0, respectively. For juveniles, estimates of 72 h LC50 for pH were 9.91, 9.56, 9.04, and 8.76 at 0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/L NH3-N, respectively; 72 h LC50 estimates for NH3-N were 2.02 and 0.54 mg/L at pH 9.0 and 9.5, respectively.
In pond culture of M. rosenbergii , high pH levels can cause mortality at stocking. The 72 h data can be used as an indication of safe stocking levels of pH and ammonia. These data suggest that post-larvae should not be exposed to pH > 9.0 nor to NH3-N > 1 mg/L in the pH range 8.5–9.0 and juveniles should not be exposed to pH > 9.5 nor to NH3-N > 0 mg/L at pH 9.5, > 1 mg/L at pH 9.0, or > 2 mg/L at pH 8.5.  相似文献

Nutritionally important food items for crayfish have been difficult to identify and little information exists for third instar (first-feeding) crayfish. In this study, three major groups of potentially-important foods were fed to communally-reared third instar crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) and weight gain and survival were measured over a 30 day period. Mean weight gain (% increase) of crayfish fed the zooplankton Daphnia magna alone or in combination with other food items, ranged 2, 277–3, 239%, while mean weight gain of crayfish fed unidentified aquatic bacteria, the aquatic macrophyte Myriophyllum spicatus, combinations of bacteria and plant, or a negative control ranged 254–767%. No significant interaction of food items was detected. Bacteria appear to be a utilizable nutritional source for juvenile crayfish, but, using the methods employed in this study, do not support maximum rates of weight gain. Thus, pond management strategies that maximize zooplankton populations at the time of crayfish hatching might be beneficial.  相似文献

Frozen beef liver fed at dietary levels of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25% (dry weight) to postlarval Mucrobruchium rosenbergii was evaluated as a supplement to Mna Trout Chow No. 2. Final mean wet weights and yields of prawns fed 15, 20, and 25% beef liver were significantly higher than those of prawns that received 5 and 10% levels. Survival rates and food conversion ratios of dry matter fed to wet biomass produced were not significantly different among treatments. The suitability of 47 fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables as dietary supplements was tested. Fourteen fruits and vegetables sank and were readily consumed by prawns, and seven (fresh orange and sweet potato, and frozen banana, carrot tops, butternut squash, yellow squash, and turnip greens) were tested as supplements (10% dry weight of the total ration) to trout chow and 15% beef liver. There were no significant differences ( P < 0.05) in final mean weight, survival, yield, or food conversion ratio. Pigmentation of prams fed carrot tops or turnip greens was enhanced. No significant differences in final mean weight, yield, or survival were found when frozen banana was evaluated at levels of 0, 5,10,15, and 20% as a supplement to trout chow and 15% beef liver. Food conversion ratios for prawns fed 15 and 20% levels of banana were not different from those fed 10%, but were significantly higher than for prawns fed the 0 and 5% levels. Thus, a diet of Purina Trout Chow No. 2 plus 15% beef liver gives good results with postlarval M. rosenbergii in aquaria. Largescale testing and an economic analysis are needed to determine if this diet is practical for commercial prawn nurseries.  相似文献

Two independent trials were conducted to evaluate the effects of different physical characteristics of substrate materials on growth and survival of freshwater prawn. In Trial 1, juvenile prawns (0.4 ± 0.2 g) were stocked at 123 prawns/m2 of tank bottom into twenty‐one 18,000‐L fiberglass tanks managed as pond microcosms. Six substrate materials were chosen to allow comparisons of surface area, mesh size, color, and texture. A control treatment received no added substrate. There were three replicate tanks per treatment. Substrates were positioned vertically at a rate sufficient to increase the bottom surface area by 100%. Prawns were fed a 32% protein sinking diet according to a feed chart. After 110 d, there was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in survival among treatments, averaging 72.6% overall. Prawns in the control treatment (no substrate) had significantly lower (P ≤ 0.05) average weights (9.5 g), lower production (1342 kg/ha), and higher feed conversion ratio (FCR; 2.5) than those in substrate treatments, which were not significantly different (P > 0.05) and averaged 13.4 g, 2404 kg/ha, and 1.3, respectively. For Trial 2, the least expensive substrate material from Trial 1 (lightweight polyethylene bird netting) was compared with the substrate most commonly used in commercial production (heavyweight orange polyethylene safety fencing) under practical pond conditions. Juvenile prawns (0.8 ± 0.3 g) were stocked at 61,600/ha into six 0.04‐ha earthen ponds. Each was randomly assigned one of the two substrate materials, and there were three replications per treatment. After 101 d, there were no significant differences (P > 0.05) between treatments in terms of survival (91%), average weight (34 g), total production (2150 kg/ha), or FCR (3.1). In these studies, physical characteristics of the substrate materials had little impact. The lightweight netting represents a 68% cost savings compared to the currently recommended substrate material.  相似文献

Effects of harvesting methods (cull and batch) on population structure, growth, and yield of freshwater prawn, Macrobrachiurn rosenbergii, cultured at two densities (5/m2 and 10/m2) were evaluated. Females (67.4%) were more abundant than males (32.6%), but there was no effect of harvesting methods and stocking rates on sex ratio (P > 0.05). Mean survival rates ranged from 78.3 to 92.6%, being highest at a stocking density of 10/m2 and cull-harvested (P < 0.05), but were not different (P > 0.05) among three other treatments. After 196 days of culture, mean weights ranged from 25.3 to 29.9 g and were not significantly different from each other (P > 0.05). Mean weight of males was not hi her than that of f females (P > 0.05), except in one treatment (5/m2 , batch harvest) where males were heavier (P < 0.05). Maximum specific growth rate (SGR) was recorded for prawns cultured at a density of 5/m2 and cull-harvested (0.66%/day), followed by prawns at 10/m2 and cull-harvested (0.58%/day). Minimum SGR was found for prawns cultured at 10/m2 density and balch-harvested (0.43%/day). Maximum yield (2366 kg/ha and 2099 kg/ha) was recorded at the higher density (P < 0.05). Harvesting method had no effect on yield at any density (P > 0.05).  相似文献
