Oestrus synchronization was studied in samples from six cows of the Black-Pied Lowland breed. Three cows four to five days from oestrus were used as the control; three animals with marked periodic corpora lutea were given an i. m. injection of 0.5 mg cloprostenol. The eighth day from the administration of the preparation, the ovaries of the cows were excised and, after histological processing in a simultaneous series in a 4mm interval, the preparations were subjected to qualitative and quantitative microscopic evaluation. The structure of non-atretic and atretic follicles was described in different stages of the atretic process. The lymphoid cells of atretic follicles were observed to penetrate into the granulosa membrane. A multiplication of non-atretic tertiary follicles was observed after the administration of cloprostenol. This multiplication was more pronounced on the right ovary where the preceding ovulation had taken place (P less than 0.01). The treated animals, compared with the controls, showed a significant multiplication of tertiary follicles at early atresia and at total collapse atresia (P less than 0.001), whereas the number of follicles with contractive atresia showed a significant decrease (P less than 0.001). The results suggest that cloprostenol can influence follicle population mostly through the stimulation of the growth and ripening of tertiary follicles; its modulation effect seems manifest itself in cooperating relation with gonadotrophic hormones, mainly with the follicular secondary hormone (FSH), in the theory of the complex effect of proteohormones .  相似文献

Premature parturition was induced in 115 of 121 sows (95%) that had been given injections of 150 microgram or 200 microgram of "Estrumate", a prostaglandin analogues, on the 112th and 113th days of gestation. The average time that elapsed between injection and parturition of those 115 animals was 27.2 +/- 7.7 hours, with no difference being observed between gilts, on the one hand, and old sows, on the other. The time of gestation of the treated animals was shortened with significance from 114.6 +/- 1.6 days for the controls to 113.2 +/- 0.4 days. The average duration of parturition proper was 3.7 +/- 2.2 hours, the average litter being 11.2 +/- 3.3 piglets. The total number of piglets born was 1,320, with stillbirths accounting for 4.17%. The average weight at birth, 1,330 +/- 210 g, and the weight at weaning did not differ from weight figures recorded from the controls. The courses of parturition and puerperium were in agreement with normal biological standards. The sows treated were tested for their blood counts close to full term and for their endometrial histomorphology after weaning, with no side effects of "Estrumate" treatment being established. The behaviours of progesterone, 17-beta oestradiol, and cortisol in serum of "Estrumate"-treated sows were investigated, and congruence was established between spontaneous and prostaglandin-induced parturitions, which was in agreement with international literature. The conclusion is that 150 micrograms of 'Estrumate", administered to swine, after the 11th day of gestation has very good labour-inducing effects and ensures normal physiological parturition and piglet development.  相似文献

Two experiments were designed to determine whether prostaglandin treatment within one hour postpartum would reduce the incidence of retained placentas after induction of parturition in beef cattle. In the first experiment, 70 cows were induced on day 276-278 of gestation with the combination of 500 μg cloprostenol and 25 mg dexamethasone (CP + Dex). Within one hour after parturition, cows received either 500 μg CP or 25 mg of dinoprost (DI). The incidence of retained placenta (RP) was 64.3% in induced groups and 0% in noninduced control cows and postpartum treatment with either CP or DI had no effect on placental retention.

A second experiment, utilizing 132 cows and heifers, was conducted to determine whether induction with Dex alone, rather than with CP + Dex, would influence the rate of placental retention after postpartum treatment with either CP or DI. The incidence of retained placenta ranged from 28.5 to 58.3% in induced females but was 0% in noninduced control females. As in the first experiment, postpartum prostaglandin treatment had no effect on placental retention.

The results of these experiments do not support the use of prostaglandins within one hour of induced parturition to reduce the incidence of retained placentas.

In the year 1990 free parturitions of 339 cows were followed on three farms; these parturitions were compared with the last parturitions of these cows when the tender's assistance was available. The spontaneous free parturitions were followed in the open air in litter boxes which were located outside the barns where the groups of about twenty highly pregnant cows and heifers were housed for two months before their parturitions all the year round irrespective of the weather conditions. In addition to direct continuous observations, a host of zooveterinary data filed for these groups of animals were evaluated, concerning particularly those animals which could not be directly followed for the time reasons. Through direct observations the time schedule of the given parturition was evaluated and recorded above all, including all changes in the behaviour of the cow itself, and also behavioural changes in the group of animals or the behaviour of particular groups of animals toward each other. Applying the same criteria, the behaviour of born calves toward the mother, behaviour of calves toward each other and their behaviour toward other breeding cows was evaluated. The method of disinterested observation was used, this means the principle of noninterference with the most actions observed, with the exception of such situations that could result in the calf death. Another principle was to minimize through these observations all negative effects that could influence the behaviour of individual animals and also the behaviour of the whole group.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

49 of 102 sheep of one production herd, which had returned to oestrus once or twice within the 1985 breeding season, were treated twice in a nine-day interval with the PGF2 alpha analogue Cloprostenol "Jenapharm". 53 animals received an additional dose of 10 micrograms of Gonavet "Berlin-Chemie". A lambing rate of merely 15% was achieved by subsequent term-oriented artificial insemination. 31 sheep still in oestrus one day after term-oriented artificial insemination were served, bringing the lambing rate from synchronisation of oestrus and ovulation to 26% and the lambing result to 154%. Serving of the remaining sheep in 2 subsequent oestric cycles, on balance, yielded lambing rates and results of the remaining sheep in 2 subsequent oestric cycles, on balance, yielded lambing rates and results which were higher with significance than those recorded from untreated sheep in the same herd.  相似文献

Sow longevity is a key component for efficient and profitable pig farming; however, approximately 50% of sows are removed annually from a breeding herd. There is no consensus in the scientific literature regarding a definition for sow longevity; however, it has been suggested that it can be measured using several methods such as stayability and economic indicators such as lifetime piglets produced. Sow longevity can be improved by genetic selection; however, it is rarely included in genetic evaluations. One reason is elongated time intervals required to collect complete lifetime data. The effect of genetic parameter estimation software in handling incomplete data (censoring) and possible early indicator traits were evaluated analysing a 30% censored data set (12 725 pedigreed Landrace × Large White sows that included approximately 30% censored data) with DMU6, THRGIBBS1F90 and GIBBS2CEN. Heritability estimates were low for all the traits evaluated. The results show that the binary stayability traits benefited from being analysed with a threshold model compared to analysing with a linear model. Sires were ranked very similarly regardless if the program handled censoring when all available data were included. Accumulated born alive and stayability were good indicators for lifetime born alive traits. Number of piglets born alive within each parity could be used as an early indicator trait for sow longevity.  相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate whether n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) incorporate into erythrocyte membranes of peripartal sows in a dose-responsive manner and whether the altered fatty acid profile affects the cell membrane characteristics. At day 109 of gestation (day 0), 51 sows were divided into five treatment groups. Each group received a diet with a different ratio of fish oil to pork lard for nine consecutive days. Blood samples were taken at day 0 and 10 days later. The fatty acid profile of erythrocytes was determined, as well as the osmotic fragility and oxidative stability of erythrocytes. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) were determined in plasma samples. Finally, reproductive and performance parameters of both sows and piglets were recorded until weaning. Supplementation of fish oil during the peripartal period changed the fatty acid profile of erythrocyte membranes in a dose-responsive manner. Although the n-3 PUFA content of erythrocyte membranes increased with increasing amounts of fish oil in the diet, no significant effect on erythrocyte osmotic fragility could be recorded. In contrast, oxidative stability of erythrocytes decreased linearly with increasing amounts of fish oil in the diet. Similarly, both TBARS and FRAP linearly increased with increasing percentages of fish oil in the diet. Neither piglet nor sow performance was influenced by dietary treatments, except for a decrease of both piglet survival and weaning weight with increasing quantities of fish oil supplemented. It is concluded that changes in dietary lipid sources can affect the membrane's fatty acid profile within days, and mainly influences oxidative stability of the cells.  相似文献

Cloprostenol, 100 micrograms, given intramuscularly to the nanny, with 50 micrograms 10 hours later, precipitated parturition in goats after 36 +/- 1 hours (mean +/- SEM), when administered at 137 +/- 0.5 days gestation. All kids were born alive and survived to weaning. Milk yield over 40 weeks post partum was not significantly different from that after spontaneous parturition. Three hundred micrograms cloprostenol (200 micrograms with 100 micrograms 10 hours later) also initiated parturition at 137 +/- 0.5 days gestation but caused a significant (P less than 0.01) suppression of lactation. Cloprostenol-induced parturition in more than one pregnancy had no adverse effects except for an increased incidence of placental retention, which was treated successfully with intrauterine pessaries containing oestrogen. During the first eight days after spontaneous parturition efficiency of milk secretion was inversely related to udder mass, suggesting a gradual maturation of the secretory alveolar epithelium over this time. When parturition was induced by cloprostenol there was a four to eight day delay before the establishment of this relationship which appeared essential for a successful lactation. Cloprostenol proved to be a useful tool for the control of parturition in goats, having applications to both general animal husbandry and for the study of mammary development and secretory competence.  相似文献

No side effects were detected immediately after injection and the course of the induced parturition was normal. The interval between injection and parturition was approximately 28 hours. Induction of parturition on day 113 resulted in a significant shortening of this interval as compared with day 111 and 112. The average weights of the piglets at birth and at 5 weeks were within the normal range. The percentage of stillbirths and the loss of piglets up to weaning did not differ significantly between control and experimental groups. AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of a programme using oestradiol benzoate, progesterone and the prostaglandin-F2 (PG) analogue, cloprostenol, to synchronise oestrus and ovulation in dairy cows, compared with a programme using a gonadotropinreleasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, buserelin, and cloprostenol. METHODS: Twenty non-lactating dairy cows, at random stages of the oestrus cycle, were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatments. In Treatment 1 ( OPPG; n=10), cows were injected with 2 mg oestradiol benzoate intramuscularly (IM) plus 200 mg progesterone subcutaneously (SC) on Day 0, followed by 500 microg cloprostenol IM on Day 9 and 1 mg oestradiol benzoate on Day 10. In Treatment 2 (GPG; n=10), cows were injected with 10 microg buserelin IM on Day 0, 500 microg cloprostenol IM on Day 7 and 10 microg buserelin on Day 9. The ovaries of all cows were examined by ultrasonography, using an 8 MHz probe, from 5 days before the initial treatment until ovulation. Cows were observed for oestrus 3 times daily for 7 days after cloprostenol treatment. Blood samples were collected daily for determination of progesterone, and 6-hourly for 36 h after the second oestradiol or buserelin injection for the determination of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) concentrations. RESULTS: The percentage of cows observed in oestrus was higher in the OPPG group than in the GPG group (100% vs 55.6%, p=0.018). Treatment with either short-acting progesterone plus oestradiol benzoate or buserelin was followed by atresia or ovulation of the dominant follicle. Emergence of a new follicular wave occurred earlier (p>0.001) in the GPG group (2.2+/-0.2 days) than in the OPPG group (3.6+/-0.2 days). There was no significant difference between treatment groups in the variation of time of follicular wave emergence or size of the largest follicles at either the time of initial treatment (10.8+/-1.4 mm vs 11.1+/-0.8 mm), cloprostenol treatment (13.8+/-0.7 mm vs 14.0+/-1.3 mm) or of ovulation (15.4+/-0.7 mm vs 17.6+/-1.1 mm; p=0.10). The LH surge occurred sooner after the second injection of buserelin (4.0+/-1.0 h) than after the second injection of oestradiol benzoate (22.8+/-1.2 h; p>0.001). The interval between the second injection of oestradiol benzoate or buserelin and ovulation did not differ significantly between treatment groups (1.7+/-0.3 days vs 1.6+/-0.2 days; p=0.69). CONCLUSIONS: The use of short-term progesterone treatment, combined with oestradiol benzoate for follicular wave synchronisation, and cloprostenol to cause lysis of residual luteal tissue, is a promising alternative to established methods of oestrus synchronisation in cows.  相似文献

In a herd of sows 106 sows having 4.3 litters on aver., were over a period of 10 weeks treated on Thursdays with 0.175 mg of cloprostenol on the 111th to 114th day of gestation; 93--95% of the sows treated on the 112th and 113th day farrowed within 33 hours after treatment, 73% after treatment on the 111th day (Table I); the mean period of gestation after treatment was 113.4 +/- 0.9 days. 8 sows that only farrowed 2--5 days after the treatment, had on 21 previous farrowings proved to have significantly longer mean periods of gestation, 115.6 days, than the 112 sows in the control group, having 3.6 litters on average, that farrowed in the same period and section of the piggery as the sows treated with cloprostenol. In total 32 weekend-farrowings occurred in the observation period including 7 farrowings after a period of gestation of 110--113 days, 6 cases of unsuccessfully induced parturition and 19 farrowings on the 114th to 119th day that could have been programmed to occur on Fridays; the number of weekend-farrowings, which for this herd in connection with the weaning procedure normally accounted for about 40--45% of farrowings, could thus be reduced to 7% of farrowings (Table II). Cloprostenol treatment on the 111th day resulting in farrowing on the 112th day leads to a significantly higher rate of piglet mortality after 3 weeks compared with the results after farrowing for control sows that farrowed on the 112th day (Table III); this category of control sows had on previous farrowings proved to have a significantly shorter mean period of gestation, 112.7 days, than that of the sows in the cloprostenol group farrowing on the 112th day which had been 114.3 days on previous farrowings. Farrowing and weaning results after induced parturition resulting in farrowing on the 113th to 115th day showed no significant differences from the results for control sows farrowing spontaneously on the 112th to 115th day of gestation. The incidence of MMA (Table II) was not influenced by the cloprostenol treatment, nor by the number of litters, the length of the period of gestation, or by the piling of farrowings on Fridays.  相似文献
