The objective of our study was to determine the dose-pregnancy rate response of a GnRH agonist injected once during the luteal phase in virgin heifers (four locations) and suckled beef cows (two locations) during the spring of 1989. The same treatments in virgin heifers were used at one location in the fall of 1989. Heifers and cows were inseminated at a synchronized estrus and then assigned randomly to each of three doses (0, 100, or 200 micrograms) of fertirelin acetate administered in 4 ml of saline in a double-blind study after being blocked by inseminator and service sire. Injections were given (i.m.) once on d 11, 12, 13, or 14 after estrus. Pregnancy rates were determined by palpation of the uterus per rectum and(or) by actual calving dates. Overall pregnancy rates for heifers across five locations were 86/201 (43%), 100/197 (51%), and 100/203 (49%) for the 0, 100, and 200 micrograms doses of fertirelin acetate, respectively. Pregnancy rates for heifers at two locations based on calving data were 28/48 (50%), 31/47 (66%), and 34/52 (65%) for the three doses. Both the 100- and 200-micrograms doses increased (P less than .05) pregnancy rates in heifers based on palpation results, whereas only the 200-micrograms dose tended to increase (P = .10) pregnancy rates based on calving results. Pregnancy rates based on palpation for suckled beef cows at two locations were 36/51 (71%), 30/43 (70%), and 34/51 (67%), and the corresponding pregnancy rates based on calving results were 30/41 (73%), 32/36 (89%), and 31/38 (82%) for the 0, 100, and 200 micrograms doses, respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different exogenous progesterone sources administrated after artificial insemination (AI) on serum progesterone (P(4) ) concentration and pregnancy rates in Holstein lactating cows. Sixty-four lactating Holstein dairy cows were allocated to four different treatments (n = 16 per treatment): the cows 1) were injected with physiological saline on days 5 and 13 after AI (control group); 2) were injected with progesterone on days 5 and 13 after AI (P group); 3) received controlled internal drug releasing device (CIDR) for a period from day 5 to 19 after AI (CIDR group); and 4) were injected with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist on days 5 and 13 after AI (GnRH group). Blood samples were collected on days 0 (AI day), 5, 13, 16 and 19 after AI to determine serum P(4) concentration. The results revealed a significant difference among treatment groups for serum P(4) concentration on days 13, 16 and 19 with the lowest concentration of serum P(4) for the control group. The pregnancy rate was also positively affected by all the treatments with CIDR having the greatest effect on pregnancy rate. Overall, the results indicated that CIDR has the greatest effect on serum P(4) concentration and pregnancy rate, although the administration of P and GnRH during days after AI increased serum P(4) concentration in lactating dairy cows as well.  相似文献

Farm trials were carried out to determine if cows and heifers could be inseminated on a fixed time basis following a 12-day treatment with progesterone coils and an injection of 5 mg oestradiol benzoate and 200 mg progesterone at the start of treatment. The retention rate of the coils was significantly higher (P less than 0.05) when a 5.5 cm diameter was used compared with a diameter of 7.0 cm. Calving rate was similar in treated cows bred at a detected oestrus, at 56 + 74 hours after treatment or at 56 hours after treatment and injection of 100 microgram gonadotrophin releasing hormone 20 hours previously and in control cows bred at oestrus. Fertility to the first repeat oestrus was also similar in treated and control cows. Significantly (P less than 0.05) more synchronised cows calved following fixed time AI compared with the calving rate in control cows inseminated for a 24-day experimental period. In beef suckler cows, calved at least 50 days, and dairy heifers weighing over 280 kg, calving rate was similar in treated animals bred at 56 and 74 hours after treatment compared to calving rate in control animals bred at oestrus.  相似文献

Our objectives were to identify stages of the estrous cycle at which initiation of a timed artificial insemination (Ovsynch/TAI) protocol may reduce pregnancy rates and to monitor ovarian follicle dynamics and corpus luteum development after initiation of the Ovsynch/TAI protocol at different stages of the cycle. Cycling Holstein heifers (n = 24) were injected twice with prostaglandin F2alpha to induce estrus and were scanned by ovarian ultrasonography to determine the day of ovulation (d 0). Heifers were assigned to initiate the Ovsynch/TAI protocol at d 2 (n = 5), 5 (n = 5), 10 (n = 4), 15 (n = 5), or 18 (n = 5) of the cycle. The Ovsynch/TAI was initiated with an injection of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist followed 7 d later with an injection of prostaglandin F2alpha. At 36 h after injection of prostaglandin F2alpha, heifers were injected with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist and inseminated 16 h later. Heifers were scanned daily during the Ovsynch/TAI protocol and every other day after insemination until 16 d later. Blood samples were collected daily starting at the 1st day heifers were scanned and continued until 16 d after insemination. Initiation of the Ovsynch/TAI protocol at d 15 of the estrous cycle caused heifers to ovulate prior to insemination. A shortened return to estrus (< 16 d) was caused by ovulation failure to the second gonadotropin-releasing hormone injection, by incomplete regression of the corpus luteum, and by short life-span of the induced corpus luteum. Day of the cycle in which the Ovsynch/TAI protocol is initiated affects dynamics of follicular development, plasma progesterone profiles, and occurrence of premature ovulation. Size of the pre-ovulatory follicle was associated positively with subsequent progesterone concentrations following insemination.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine whether administration of hCG approximately 5 d after AI would increase plasma progesterone concentrations and conception rates in beef heifers. Heifers from two locations (Location 1: n = 347, BW = 367 +/- 1.72 kg; Location 2: n = 246, BW = 408 +/- 2.35 kg) received melengestrol acetate (0.5 mg.heifer(-1).d(-1)) for 14 d and an injection of PGF2alpha (25 mg i.m.) 19 d later. Heifers were observed for estrus continuously during daylight from d 0 to 4.5 after PGF2alpha and artificially inseminated approximately 12 h after the onset of estrus. Half of the heifers inseminated at Location 1 were assigned randomly to receive an injection of hCG (3,333 IU i.m.) 8 d after PGF2alpha, and a blood sample was collected from all heifers 14 d after PGF2alpha for progesterone analysis. Half of the heifers inseminated at Location 2 were administered hCG on d 9 after PGF2alpha, and a blood sample was collected from all heifers 17 d after PGF2alpha. Heifers at Location 1 had a 94% synchronization rate, exhibited estrus 2.45 +/- 0.03 d after PGF2alpha, and received hCG 5.55 +/- 0.03 d after AI. Heifers at Location 2 had an 85% synchronization rate, exhibited estrus 2.69 +/- 0.03 d after PGF2alpha, and received hCG 6.31 +/- 0.03 d after AI. Progesterone concentrations were greater (P < 0.01) for hCG-treated heifers than for controls at both locations (8.6 vs. 4.6 ng/mL for treatment vs. control at Location 1, and 11.2 vs. 5.6 ng/mL for treatment vs. control at Location 2). Pregnancy status was determined by ultrasound approximately 50 d after AI. Conception rates (65 vs. 70% for treatment vs. control, respectively) did not differ at Location 1. Conception rates tended (P = 0.10) to be increased with hCG treatment at Location 2 (61 vs. 50% for treatment vs. control, respectively). A second experiment was conducted with 180 heifers at a third location to determine the effects of hCG administration 6 d after timed insemination at approximately 60 h after PGF2alpha in heifers synchronized as in Exp. 1. Pregnancy rate to timed AI did not differ between hCG-treated (62%) and control heifers (59%). Final pregnancy rate after timed AI and bull exposure (92%) was not affected by treatment. In summary, administration of hCG 5 to 6 d after AI did not improve conception or pregnancy rates at two out of three locations evaluated, suggesting insufficient progesterone is not a major factor contributing to early pregnancy failure in beef heifers.  相似文献

Forty prepuberal Simmental X Brahman-Hereford heifers were utilized to determine the effects of epinephrine (E), norepinephrine (NE), gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) or combinations of GnRH + E and GnRH + NE on serum luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations. Animals were assigned randomly to one of five treatments with four replicates/treatment. Treatments consisted of I) 100 micrograms GnRH at time 0 (n = 8); II) 50 mg NE at time -15 and 0 (n = 8); III) 50 mg E at time -15 and 0 (n = 8); IV) 100 micrograms GnRH at time 0, plus 50 mg NE at time -15 and 0 (n = 8) and V) 100 micrograms GnRH at time 0, plus 50 mg E at time -15 and 0 (n = 8). All treatment compounds were administered im in 2 ml physiological saline and blood samples were collected via tail vessel puncture at -30, -15, 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 300 and 360 min from GnRH injection. Treatment with NE or E alone had no effect (P greater than .10) on serum LH during the sampling period. The initial LH release to GnRH was altered (P less than .05) by concomitant treatment with NE (treatment IV) or E (treatment V). Magnitude of the LH release was reduced (P less than .01) by treatment V. Area under the LH surge was reduced (P less than .05) by treatment IV (NE) and V (E).  相似文献

The objective of the experiment was to compare pregnancy rates resulting from fixed-time AI after administration of either 1 of 2 controlled internal drug release (CIDR)-based protocols. Heifers at 3 locations (location 1, n = 78; location 2, n = 61; and location 3, n = 78) were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments within reproductive tract scores (1 = immature to 5 = cycling) by age and BW. Heifers assigned to CIDR Select received a CIDR insert (1.38 g of progesterone) from d 0 to 14 followed by GnRH (100 mug, i.m.) 9 d after CIDR removal (d 23) and PGF2alpha (PG, 25 mg, i.m.) 7 d after GnRH treatment (d 30). Heifers assigned to CO-Synch + CIDR were administered GnRH and received a CIDR insert on d 23 and PG and CIDR removal on d 30. Heifers at location 1 were fitted with a HeatWatch estrus detection system transmitter from the time of PG until 24 d after fixed-time AI to allow for continuous estrus detection. Artificial insemination was performed at predetermined fixed times for heifers in both treatments at 72 or 54 h after PG for the CIDR Select and CO-Synch + CIDR groups, respectively. All heifers were administered GnRH at the time of AI. Blood samples were collected 10 d before and immediately before treatment initiation (d 0) to determine pretreatment estrous cyclicity (progesterone > or = 0.5 ng/mL). At location 1, the estrous response during the synchronized period was greater (P = 0.06; 87 vs. 69%, respectively), and the variance for interval to estrus after PG was reduced among CIDR Select- (P < 0.01) compared with CO-Synch + CIDR-treated heifers. Fixed-time AI pregnancy rates were significantly greater (P = 0.02) after the CIDR Select protocol (62%) compared with the CO-Synch + CIDR protocol (47%). In summary, the CIDR Select protocol resulted in a greater and more synchronous estrous response and significantly greater fixed-time AI pregnancy rates compared with the CO-Synch + CIDR protocol.  相似文献

Our objectives were to determine fertility of heifers after synchronization of estrus using PGF2alpha, preceded by progesterone (P4), GnRH, or both, and to examine the variability of estrual characteristics in heifers before first and second AI. Dairy (n = 247) and beef (n = 193) heifers were assigned randomly to each of three treatments: 1) 50 microg of GnRH (injected i.m.) administered on d -7 followed by 25 mg of PGF2alpha (i.m.) on d -1 (GnRH + PGF; modified Select Synch protocol); 2) placement of an intravaginal progesterone (P4)-releasing insert on d -7, PGF2alpha on d -1, and insert removal on d 0 (P4+PGF); and 3) 50 microg of GnRH plus a P4 insert on d -7, followed by 25 mg of PGF2alpha on d -1, and insert removal on d 0 (P4+GnRH+PGF). Characteristics of estrus were examined before first AI and before the next eligible AI (18 to 26 d later), including duration of estrus, number of standing events, and total and individual duration of standing events. In addition, all heifers were checked visually at least twice daily for estrus. Blood samples were collected on d -7, -1, and 0 for determination of P4, and pregnancy status was diagnosed by ultrasonography 27 to 34 d after AI. Rates of detected estrus were less (P < 0.05) in dairy than in beef heifers, and greater (P < 0.05) in heifers treated with P4. Pattern of conception and pregnancy rates among treatments differed between beef and dairy heifers (treatment x group interaction; P < 0.05). In dairy heifers, conception and pregnancy rates were greatest with P4+PGF, followed by P4+GnRH+PGF and GnRH+PGF, respectively. The opposite was observed among treatments in beef heifers. Administration of P4 without the preceding injection of GnRH produced the lowest pregnancy rates in beefheifers. Ofthe quantified sexual behavioral characteristics during the synchronized estrus, the number of standing events and total duration of standing events were greater (P < 0.01) than those observed during the next eligible estrus before second AI, whereas duration of estrus was unaffected.  相似文献

Heifers treated with ivermectin at weaning have been reported to reach puberty at a younger age and lighter weight than untreated heifers. We tested the hypothesis that heifers administered ivermectin would respond with earlier follicular development and a greater LH response to a 1-mg estradiol-17beta challenge (E2C) than untreated heifers. Fall-born Angus heifers (n = 32) were randomly assigned on 284 +/- 9 d of age (215.5 +/- 20.8 kg) to receive ivermectin (IVR) or albendazole (ALB), IVR + ALB, or to remain as untreated controls (CONT). Each group (n = 8) was housed separately in adjacent pens throughout the trial and managed to gain .8 kg/heifer on a ration containing 13.2% CP, 58.8% TDN, and 49.9% DM. The CONT heifers received an additional 2.27 kg/heifer of corn silage and 1.59 kg/heifer of corn daily to maintain ADG at comparable levels. Individual body weight was recorded weekly, and nematode eggs per gram (EPG) of feces were measured every 21 d. Ultrasonography was performed on alternate days starting 2 wk prior to E2C to characterize follicular wave patterns. Follicles were separated into classes (C1 [3 to 5 mm], C2 [6 to 9 mm], and C3 [10 mm]) and sizes (largest [LF], second [SLF], third [TLF], and fourth largest follicles [FLF]). The sizes of the regressing dominant follicle 1 (DF1) and the progressing dominant follicle 2 (DF2) were also determined. Serum concentrations of LH were determined from hourly jugular blood samples collected 8 to 24 h after injection of E2C. The IVR + ALB treatment group had more C3 follicles than ALB and CONT (P < .07). The IVR-treated heifers had larger TLF than ALB and CONT (P < .04). The IVR- and IVR + ALB-treated heifers had larger FLF and DF2 than ALB and CONT (P < .1). Least squares means for DF2 were 9.5 +/- .5, 8.0 +/- .4, 9.5 +/- .3 and 8.3 +/- .3 mm, for IVR, ALB, IVR + ALB and CONT, respectively (P = .02 for treatment effect). The E2C-induced serum LH concentration did not differ with respect to treatment. We conclude that heifers administered IVR display increased follicular development, supporting our earlier investigations regarding reduced age at puberty in heifers treated with IVR near weaning.  相似文献

Haematological metabolic profiles in heifers could contribute to the development of proxies for oestrous detection and provide clues to further characterize biological changes during oestrus. One hundred and seven beef heifers were observed for oestrous behaviour twice daily for 124 days. Feed intake and productive performance (body weight and composition) traits were measured, and feed efficiency was determined using residual feed intake (kg DM/day). Blood plasma samples were collected when signs of oestrus were observed and every 30 ± 2 days. Heifers were considered in oestrus (n = 71) when plasma progesterone concentrations were <0.6 ng/ml. Least square means of blood metabolic parameters were compared between oestrous and non‐oestrous states and within oestrous groups according to performance traits and age. Heifers in oestrus exhibited higher concentrations of alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), beta‐hydroxybutyric acid, creatine kinase (CK) and triiodothyronine (T3) than heifers in non‐oestrus. Heifers in oestrus revealed lower osmolality and concentrations of calcium, sodium and total protein than during non‐oestrus. Younger (and smaller) heifers had greater concentrations of CK, gamma‐glutamyl transferase (GGT), glucose and sodium than the older heifers. Heifers with lower fatness had increased osmolality and concentrations of cholesterol, CK, phosphorus, sodium and reduced T3 levels. Feed efficient heifers had greater levels of AST, cholesterol and GGT than inefficient heifers. Blood plasma parameters may be complementary to oestrous detection upon further validation; effects of age, feed efficiency, body size and body composition should be considered to optimize this haematological assessment.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of a GnRH injection within a melengestrol acetate (MGA)-PGF2alpha (PGF) estrus synchronization protocol on follicular dynamics and synchronization of estrus. Pubertal crossbred beef heifers (n = 34) were randomly assigned to one of two treatments. Both treatment groups were fed MGA (0.5 mg x hd(-1) x d(-1)) for 14 d and injected (i.m.) with PGF (25 mg of Lutalyse) 19 d after MGA withdrawal. Melengestrol acetate was delivered in a feed supplement of 1.8 kg x hd(-1) x d(-1). Seventeen heifers received an injection of GnRH (100 microg Cystorelin) 12 d after MGA withdrawal and 7 d before PGF. The control group (n = 17) received only MGA-PGF. Estrus was detected four times/d for 7 d beginning on the day PGF was injected. Transrectal ultrasonography was performed daily on eight heifers from each treatment to monitor ovarian activity and characterize changes in follicular dynamics after MGA withdrawal and until ovulation after PGF. Each of the GnRH-treated heifers either ovulated or had a luteinized dominant follicle following GnRH and subsequently initiated a new follicular wave (8/8, 100%). All GnRH-treated heifers (17/17, 100%) and 94% of controls (16/17) exhibited estrus after PGF. Estrus was exhibited over a 132-h period (12 to 144 h) for control heifers compared with 60 h (48 to 108 h) for GnRH-treated heifers. The peak synchronized period for both treatments was between 48 and 72 h after PGF, during which time 76% (13/17) of the GnRH-treated heifers exhibited estrus compared with 63% (10/16) for controls. Seventy-one percent (12/17) of the GnRH-treated heifers exhibited estrus from 48 to 60 h after PGF, compared with 38% (6/16) for controls (P < 0.05). In summary, injection of GnRH within a 14- to 19-d MGA-PGF protocol increased the synchrony of estrus during the synchronized period and concentrated the period of detected estrus. This protocol may offer potential for the fixed-time insemination of replacement beef heifers.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of different ovulation inducers on E‐17β plasma concentrations, synchronized ovulations and pregnancy rates. In Experiment 1, cows received a progesterone intravaginal device (PID) with 1 g of progesterone (P4) plus 2 mg of estradiol benzoate (EB) (day 0). At PID removal (day 8), cows received 0.150 mg of D‐cloprostenol and were randomly assigned to four treatment groups (n = 10/treatment): Group ECP: 1 mg of estradiol cypionate at PID removal, Group EB: 1 mg of EB 24 hr after PID removal, Group GnRH: 10 μg of GnRH 48 hr after PID removal, Group ECP‐GnRH: 1 mg of ECP at PID removal plus 10 μg of GnRH 48 hr later. Ultrasonographic examinations were performed to detect the dominant follicle and ovulation. GnRH‐treated cows ovulated later (p < .05) compared to ECP‐ and ECP+GnRH‐treated cows. There were effects of treatment, time and their interaction on E‐17β concentrations (p < .05). ECP treatment affected plasma E‐17β concentration, which increased earlier and decreased later compared to treatments without ECP. In Experiment 2, cows received (i) ECP: n = 126; (ii) EB: n = 126; (iii) GnRH: n = 136; (iv) ECP+GnRH: n = 139; FTAI was performed 48–50 hr after PID removal. Pregnancy rates did not differ among ovulation inducers (p > .05; ECP: 54.0%, 68/126; EB: 49.2%, 62/126; GnRH: 40.4%, 55/136; ECP+GnRH: 43.9%, 61/139). In conclusion, ECP administration (ECP and ECP+GnRH treatments) affected E‐17β concentrations, determining its earlier increase and later decrease compared to treatments without ECP (EB and GnRH treatments). ECP+GnRH‐treated cows achieved the best distribution of ovulations without affecting pregnancy rates.  相似文献

The COSynch protocol has been used to synchronize ovulation and facilitate fixed-time AI in beef cattle. Establishment and maintenance of pregnancy was negatively affected, in previous studies, by GnRH-induced ovulation of small dominant follicles (/=10 mm) and increased ovulatory response after GnRH 2.  相似文献

We conducted a progesterone-based timed AI protocol after follicular fluid aspiration using the ovum pick-up (OPU) technique to examine its applicability to the suckled beef cow. A total of 19 beef cows were randomly allocated to one of the following three groups based on the number of days postpartum: 13 to 60 days (Group A: suckled; early postpartum period, n=9), 61 to 150 days (Group B: suckled; mid postpartum period, n=6), or 151 to 281 days (Group C: non-suckled; prolonged open period, n=4) postpartum. These cows were treated with follicular fluid aspiration and insertion of a progesterone-releasing intravaginal device (PRID) on day 0. The PRID was removed and 500 microg of cloprostenol was intramuscularly administered on day 7. A dose (100 microg) of fertirelin acetate was injected intramuscularly 48 hours later, and this was followed by a timed AI (TAI) after another 18 hours (day 10). Serum samples were taken on days 0, 7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 24 and 31 for determination of the estradiol-17beta (E(2)) and progesterone concentrations. Pregnancy diagnosis was made by rectal palpation approximately 60 days after TAI. There was no significant difference in the peripheral E(2) concentrations among the three groups during the period of the hormonal treatment. The average progesterone concentrations in Group A on day 17 were significantly higher than those in Group B and exceeded 1.0 ng/ml on day 17 and thereafter. There was no significant difference in the numbers of collected immature oocytes among the three groups. The pregnancy rates in Groups A, B, and C were 77.8% (7/9), 83.3% (5/6) and 50.0% (2/4), respectively. In conclusion, this timed AI protocol is applicable to suckled beef cows within the period of 60 days postpartum.  相似文献

The effects of prolonged, intermittent infusion of β‐endorphin or naloxone into the third cerebral ventricle of follicular‐phase ewes on the expression of genes encoding GnRH and GnRHR in the hypothalamus and GnRHR in the anterior pituitary gland (AP) were examined by an enzyme‐linked immunoabsorbent assay. Activation or blockade of μ‐opioid receptors significantly decreased or increased the GnRH concentration and GnRHR abundance in the hypothalamus, respectively, and affected in the same way GnRHR quantity in the AP gland. The changes in the levels of GnRH and GnRHR after treatment with β‐endorphin as well as following action of naloxone were reflected in fluctuations of plasma LH concentrations. On the basis of these results, it is suggested that β‐endorphinergic system in the hypothalamus of follicular‐phase ewes affects directly or via β‐endorphin‐sensitive interneurons GnRH and GnRHR biosynthesis leading to suppression in secretory activity of the hypothalamic‐pituitary axis.  相似文献

We evaluated whether a fixed-time AI (TAI) protocol could yield pregnancy rates similar to a protocol requiring detection of estrus, or detection of estrus and AI plus a clean-up TAI for heifers not detected in estrus, and whether adding an injection of GnRH at controlled internal drug release (CIDR) insertion would enhance fertility in CIDR-based protocols. Estrus in 2,075 replacement beef heifers at 12 locations was synchronized, and AI was preceded by 1 of 4 treatments arranged as a 2 x 2 factorial design: 1) Estrus detection + TAI (ETAI) (n = 516): CIDR for 7 d plus 25 mg of prostaglandin F2alpha (PG) at CIDR insert removal, followed by detection of estrus for 72 h and AI for 84 h after PG (heifers not detected in estrus by 84 h received 100 microg of GnRH and TAI); 2) G+ETAI (n = 503): ETAI plus 100 microg GnRH at CIDR insertion; 3) Fixed-time AI (FTAI) (n = 525): CIDR for 7 d plus 25 mg of PG at CIDR removal, followed in 60 h by a second injection of GnRH and TAI; 4) G+FTAI (n = 531): FTAI plus 100 microg of GnRH at CIDR insertion. Blood samples were collected (d -17 and -7, relative to PG) to determine ovarian status. For heifers in ETAI and G+ETAI treatments, a minimum of twice daily observations for estrus began on d 0 and continued for at least 72 h. Inseminations were performed according to the a.m.-p.m. rule. Pregnancy was diagnosed by transrectal ultrasonography. The percentage of heifers exhibiting ovarian cyclic activity at the initiation of treatments was 89%. Pregnancy rates among locations across treatments ranged from 38 to 74%. Pregnancy rates were 54.7, 57.5, 49.3, and 53.1% for ETAI, G+ETAI, FTAI, and G+FTAI treatments, respectively. Although pregnancy rates were similar among treatments, a tendency (P = 0.065) occurred for pregnancy rates in the G+ETAI treatment to be greater than in the FTAI treatment. We concluded that the G+FTAI protocol yielded pregnancy rates similar to protocols that combine estrus detection and TAI. Further, the G+FTAI protocol produced the most consistent pregnancy rates among locations and eliminated the necessity for detection of estrus when inseminating replacement beef heifers.  相似文献

Sahiwal cow is Bos indicus which is an important dairy breed of tropical and sub‐tropical region. Research on reproduction is rare in this breed. The objectives of the present study were to determine the effect of Ovsynch (OVS) versus prostaglandin F (PG) protocol on estrus response and its intensity, ovulation rate, timing of ovulation and pregnancy per artificial insemination (AI) in Sahiwal cows. Experimental cows (n = 80) were of mixed parity, lactating, suckled, ≥120 days postpartum with body condition score 3.08 ± 0.34 and 375‐475 kg of body weight which were randomly assigned to receive either OVS (n = 46) or PG (n =34) protocol. Cows were inseminated twice at 12 and 24 h after second gonadotropin releasing hormone in the OVS group, and 72 and 84 h after administration of prostaglandin F in PG group, respectively. The results revealed that estrus response did not differ (P > 0.05) and was 87% in OVS and 78% in PG cows. Ovulation rate did not differ (P > 0.05) and was 50% in both, OVS and PG cows. The pregnancy per AI did not differ (P > 0.05) and was 43% in OVS compared to 31% in PG cows. It is concluded that estrus response, ovulation rate and pregnancy per AI of OVS protocol is the same as PG in Sahiwal cows.  相似文献
