ABSTRACT

Soil degradation due to salinization and sodication is the paramount threat in Indo-Gangetic plains. The studies on reclamation and management of such soils can provide a pragmatic solution for improving fertility and productivity of these soils. Lack of organic matter and poor availability of nutrients are the major factors for low productivity of sodic soils. Rice-wheat is a major cropping system in Indo-Gangetic alluvial plain region even in reclaimed sodic soils and farmers used inorganic fertilizers only to get higher yields. In this study, we used different organic sources of amendments in conjunction with different nitrogen (N) doses supplied through inorganic fertilizers to investigate the combined effect of organic and inorganic amendments on soil fertility and the productivity of rice- wheat system in sodic soils. Salt tolerant varieties of rice and wheat were grown in sodic soil (pH: 9.30, EC: 1.12 dSm?1 and exchangeable sodium percentage, ESP: 52) during 2014–15 to 2016–17 in a field experiment with 13 treatment combinations of organic and inorganic amendments (T1- (control) 100% of recommended dose of N (RDN), T2-municipal solid waste compost (MSWC) @10 t ha?1 + 50%RDN, T3- MSWC @10 t ha?1 + 75% RDN,T4- MSWC @10 t ha?1 + 100%RDN, T5-Vermicompost (VC) @10 t ha?1 + 50% RDN, T6- VC @10 t ha?1 + 75% RDN, T7-VC@10 t ha?1 + 100% RDN, T8- Farm yard manure (FYM) @ 10 t ha?1 + 50% RDN,T9- FYM@10 t ha?1 + 75%RDN, T10- FYM@10 t ha?1 + 100% RDN, T11-Pressmud (PM) @10 t ha?1 + 50% RDN, T12-PM@10 t ha?1 + 75%RDN, and T13- PM @ 10 t ha?1 + 100% RDN). Use of organic amendments supplemented with reduced dose of N through inorganic fertilizer has significantly improved soil bio-physical and chemical properties. Application of VC@10 t ha?1 + 100% RDN (T7) decreased soil bulk density, pH, EC, ESP and Na content to 2.0, 4.2, 26.5, 42.8, and 56.6% respectively and increased soil organic carbon by 34.6% over control (T1). Soil fertility in terms of available N, P, K, Ca, and Mg increased by 20.5, 33.0, 36.4, and 44%, respectively, over control (T1). Soil microbial biomass carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus also improved significantly due to combined use of organic amendments and inorganic fertilizers over the only use of inorganic fertilizers. Decreasing in soil sodicity and increasing soil fertility showed significant increase (P < 0.05) in crop growth, growth indices, and grain yields of rice and wheat. The study revealed that combined use of VC or MSW compost @10 t ha?1 in conjunction with 75% RDN through inorganic fertilizers in sodic soils proved sustainable technology for restoration of degraded sodic soils and improving crop productivity.  相似文献

Biochar amendments offer promising potential to improve soil fertility, soil organic carbon (SOC) and crop yields; however, a limited research has explored these benefits of biochar in the arid and semi‐arid regions. This two‐year field study investigated the effects of Acacia tree biomass‐derived biochar, applied at 0 and 10 t ha?1 rates with farmyard manure (FYM) or poultry manure (PM) and mineral phosphorus (P) fertilizer combinations (100 kg P ha‐1), on maize (Zea mays L.) productivity, P use efficiency (PUE) and farm profitability. The application of biochar with organic–inorganic P fertilizers significantly increased soil P and SOC contents than the sole organic or inorganic P fertilizers. Addition of biochar and PM as 100% P source resulted in the highest soil P (104% increase over control) and SOC contents (203% higher than control). However, maize productivity and PUE were significantly higher under balanced P fertilizer (50% organic + 50% mineral fertilizer) with biochar and the increase was 110%, 94% and 170% than 100%‐FYM, 100%‐PM and 100% mineral fertilizer, respectively. Maize productivity and yield correlated significantly positively with soil P and SOC contents These positive effects were possibly due to the ability of biochar to improve soil properties, P availability from organic–inorganic fertilizers and SOC which resulted in higher PUE and maize productivity. Despite the significant positive relationship of PUE with net economic returns, biochar incorporation with PM and mineral fertilizer combination was economically profitable, whereas FYM along biochar was not profitable due to short duration of the field experiments.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A meta-analysis of 297 treatment data from the Vezaiciai Branch of the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry long-term field experiment published from 2006 to 2015 was used to characterize the changes in SOC under different fertilization treatments and residue management practices in Lithuania’s acid soil. A meta-analysis was performed to quantify the relative annual change (RAC) of SOC content and the average RAC rate of SOC under four fertilization modes (farmyard manure (FYM) (40?t?ha?1)); alternative organic fertilizers (in the manure background (40?t?ha?1)); FYM (60?t?ha?1); alternative organic fertilizers (in the manure background (60?t?ha?1)) in two soil backgrounds (naturally acid and limed soil). The average RAC under four fertilization modes was 1.46 g?kg?1?yr?1, indicating that long-term fertilization had considerable SOC sequestration potential. Incorporation of alternative organic fertilizers in unlimed soil showed negative effects (?0.39 and ?0.66 g?kg?1?yr?1) in the observed long-term experiment. The RAC in the limed soil with incorporated organic fertilizers (FYM and alternative organic fertilizers), compared to the control, and varied from 0.25 g?kg?1?yr?1 in the treatment with incorporated alternative organic fertilizers (in the manure background (40?t?ha?1)) to 0.71 g?kg?1?yr?1 in the soil with FYM (60?t?ha?1). In this study, the average RAC rate of SOC under organic fertilization treatments in limed soil (5.07–6.54%) was longer than organic fertilization in unlimed soil (2.11–3.49%), which might be attributed to the application of organic manure that would result in a slow release of fertilizer efficiency. Our results indicate that the application of manure (40 or 60?t?ha?1) showed the greatest potential for C sequestration in agricultural soil and produced the longest SOC sequestration duration.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Damage to soil structures and depletions of soil carbon under paddy cultivation are concerns for the sustenance of food security in Bangladesh. Long-term organic amendment in paddy field plays an important role in improving soil properties and crop productivity, but no such study has yet been conducted under rice-fallow-rice. A field experiment was carried out with or without the addition of cow dung (CD) and poultry manure (PM) as integrated plant nutrient systems (IPNS) to evaluate soil organic carbon (SOC) budget, net ecosystem carbon stock, and aggregate stability. The experiment was established in 2009 and continued until 2016 under the rice-fallow-rice system. Soil bulk density reduced from 1.39 to 1.37 g cm?3 and soil aggregate size increased from 6.78 to 7.05 mm with organic amendments. Both carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) contents increased with the addition of CD and PM, which varied with aggregate size. The highest C (1.6–2.15%) and N (0.11–0.24%) contents were observed in 0.30 mm aggregate than other fractions. Soil organic C contents showed polynomial relationships with aggregate size and organic amendment. The SOC sequestration ranged from 94 to 168 kg ha?1 depending on organic materials used. The C balances were negative for control (?99 to ?201 kg ha?1) and chemical fertilizers alone (?58 to ?91 kg ha?1). In comparison to control treatment, grain yield of rice increased significantly with the addition of organic substances. Balanced application of CD and PM with IPNS-based inorganic fertilizers was the best management option for yield and sustainable soil health.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The performance of DNDC (DeNitrification-DeComposition) and RothC (Rothamsted Carbon model) in simulating soil organic carbon (SOC) storage in soils under rice (Oryza sativa L.) – wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), maize (Zea mays L.) – wheat and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) – wheat cropping systems was evaluated on field and regional scale. Field experiments consisted of N, NP, NK, PK, NPK, FYM, N + FYM, NPK + FYM, and control (UF) treatments. DNDC and RothC over-estimated SOC storage by 0.35–1.16 Mg C ha?1 (6–21%) in surface layer with manure application, compared with inorganic fertilizer treatments by 1.01–1.16 Mg C ha?1 (14–18%). Although RothC only slightly over-estimated SOC stocks, DNDC provided a better match for measured versus simulated SOC stocks (R 2 = 0.783*, DNDC; 0.669*, RothC, p < .05). Model validation on independent datasets from long-term studies on rice–wheat (R 2 = 0.935**, DNDC; R 2 = 0.920**, RothC, p < .01) and maize–wheat (R 2 = 0.895** for DNDC and R 2 = 0.967** for RothC, p < .01) systems showed excellent agreement between measured and simulated SOC stocks. On a regional scale, change in SOC storage under Scenario 1 (NPK) was significant up to 8 years of simulation, with no change thereafter. In Scenario 2 (NPK + FYM), DNDC simulated SOC storage after 10 years was 2.0, 0.4, and 1.4 Mg C ha?1 in three systems, respectively. Amount of C sequestered in silt + clay fraction varied between 0.31 and 0.97 kg C 10 years?1 (Mg silt + clay)?1 under Scenario 1, and between 0.78 and 2.67 kg C 10 years?1 (Mg silt + clay)?1 under Scenario 2.  相似文献

Abstract

The content of soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (Ntot) was studied in a long-term field experiment with a three-field crop rotation (potato – spring wheat – spring barley) set up on arable sandy loam Stagnic Albeluvisol at Eerika, Tartu, Estonia. The studied factors were: (A) organic fertilizers with three treatments: (i) without organic fertilizer, (ii) farmyard manure (60 t ha?1) used in every third year, and (iii) different organic (alternative) fertilizers (beet leaves + straw; pure beet leaves; slurry + straw; cereal straw) and (B) mineral nitrogen fertilizer with the rates: N-0; N-40; N-80; N-120 and N-160 kg ha?1. The study years were 1993, 1996 and 1999. The average content of SOC (1.03%) was significantly influenced by the use of organic fertilizers. Only Ntot (mean value 0.110%) was influenced also by fertilization with mineral nitrogen. The C/N ratio (mean value 9.5) reflected changes in the content of SOC and Ntot  相似文献

Abstract

We estimated the carbon (C) sequestration potential of organic matter application in Japanese arable soils at a country scale by applying the Rothamsted carbon (RothC) model at a 1-km resolution. After establishing the baseline soil organic carbon (SOC) content for 1990, a 25-year simulation was run for four management scenarios: A (minimum organic matter application), B (farmyard manure application), C (double cropping for paddy fields) and D (both B and C). The total SOC decreased during the simulation in all four scenarios because the C input in all four scenarios was lower than that required to maintain the baseline 1990 SOC level. Scenario A resulted in the greatest depletion, reflecting the effects of increased organic matter application in the other scenarios. The 25-year difference in SOC accumulation between scenario A and scenarios B, C and D was 32.3, 11.1 and 43.4?Mt?C, respectively. The annual SOC accumulation per unit area was similar to a previous estimate, and the 25-year averages were 0.30, 0.10 and 0.41?t?C?ha?1?year?1 for scenarios B, C and D, respectively. The system we developed in the present study, that is, linking the RothC model and soil spatial data, can be useful for estimating the potential C sequestration resulting from an increase in organic matter input to Japanese arable soils, although more feasible scenarios need to be developed to enable more realistic estimation.  相似文献

In this study, 24 years (1990–2013) of data from a long-term experiment, in Stillwater, Oklahoma (OK), were used to determine the effect of beef manure on soil test phosphorus (STP), soil organic carbon (SOC), and winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) yield. Beef manure was applied every 4 years at a rate of 269 kg nitrogen (N) ha?1, while inorganic fertilizers were applied annually at 67 kg N ha?1, 14.6 kg phosphorus (P) ha?1, and 27.8 kg potassium (K) ha?1 for N, P, and K, respectively. Averaged across years, application of beef manure, and inorganic P maintained STP above 38 mg kg?1 of Mehlich-3 extractable P, a level that is far beyond crop requirements. A more rapid decline in SOC was observed in the check plot compared to the manure-treated plot. This study shows that the application of animal manure is a viable option to maintaining SOC levels, while also optimizing grain yield.  相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to prepare and evaluate organic manures (vermicompost, compost and FYM) and mineral fertilizers on crop productivity and changes in soil organic carbon (SOC) and fertility under a four-year-old maize-wheat cropping system. The results demonstrated that yields and nutrient uptake by crops increased significantly in plots receiving manures and mineral fertilizers either alone or in combination than unfertilized control. Application of manures and fertilizers also enhanced SOC, mineral N, Olsen-P and ammonium acetate-extractable K (NH4OAc-K) after both the crops. Surface soil maintained greater build-up in SOC, mineral N, Olsen-P and NH4OAc-K than sub-surface soil. Plots amended with manures at 5 t ha?1 and 50% recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) had pronounced impact on improving SOC and fertility after both the crops indicating that integrated use of manures and mineral fertilizers could be followed to improve and maintain soil fertility, increase crop productivity under intensive cropping system.  相似文献

Substitution of mineral fertilizers with organic soil amendments is postulated to improve productivity‐relevant soil properties such as aggregation and organic matter (OM) content. However, there is a lack of studies analyzing the effects of biochar and biogas digestate versus mineral fertilizer on soil aggregation and OM dynamics under temperate field conditions. To address this research gap, a field experiment was sampled four years after establishment on a sandy Cambisol in Germany where mineral fertilizer or liquid biogas digestate was applied with or without 3 or 40 Mg biochar ha?1 (produced at 650°C). Soil samples were analyzed for soil organic carbon (SOC) content, pH, cation exchange capacity, bulk density, water‐holding capacity, microbial biomass, aggregate size class distribution, and the SOC content associated with these size classes. 40 Mg biochar ha?1 significantly increased SOC content in all fractions, especially free particulate OM and the 2–0.25 mm fraction. The yield of small macroaggregates (2–0.25 mm) was increased by biochar, but cation exchange capacity, water‐holding capacity, and pH were not consistently improved. Thus, high‐temperature biochar applied to a sandy soil under temperate conditions is primarily recommended to increase SOC content, which could contribute to climate change mitigation if this C remains sequestered over the long‐term. Fertilizer type did not significantly affect SOC content or other measured properties of the sandy Cambisol, suggesting that replacement of mineral fertilizer with digestate has a neutral effect on soil fertility. Co‐application of biochar with digestate provided no advantages for soil properties compared to co‐application with mineral fertilizer. Thus, independent utilization of these organic amendments is equally suitable.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Animal manure is used in crop production to improve crop yield and soil properties. The impact of cattle manure applied in one year on yield and soil properties in the subsequent years has not been extensively studied. This work evaluated the effect of manure application on winter wheat grain yield (Triticum aestivum L.), soil organic carbon (SOC), and soil pH. Cattle manure was applied once every four years at a rate of 267 kg N ha?1. Grain yield and soil samples (0–15 cm) were collected annually from the Magruder Plots, Oklahoma. Soil samples were analyzed using a glass electrode (pH) and LECO dry combustion analyzer (SOC). The highest yield (2.8 Mg ha?1) occurred in the second year after manure application. Yield in the second year exceeded yield in the first year by 66%. Yields in the third and fourth year were similar to yields in the other years. No changes in soil pH and SOC were observed in each of the four years that constituted the manure application cycle. Cattle manure (267 kg N ha?1) could be applied once to serve a four-year period without major yield differences while also improving soil pH and SOC when compared to the check.  相似文献

This study evaluated the petiole uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and sulfur (N, P, K, and S) by the potato from two seed meals, mint compost, and five commercially available organic fertilizers under an irrigated certified organic production system. Available soil nitrate (NO3-N) and ammonium (NH4-N) from each amendment averaged 115 kg N ha?1 at application and 25 kg N ha?1 30 d after planting through harvest, with minor differences between fertilizers. Petiole N declined from an average of 25,000 mg N kg?1, 4 wk after emergence to 3,000 mg N kg?1 prior to harvest. Petiole P and K concentrations were maintained above 4,000 mg P kg?1, 10,000 mg K kg?1, and 2,000 mg S kg?1 tissue, respectively, throughout the growing season in all treatments. Tuber yields were not different between fertilized treatments averaging 53 Mg ha?1. This study provides organic potato growers baseline information on the performance of a diverse array of organic fertilizers and amendments.  相似文献

Organic agricultural systems rely on organic amendments to achieve crop fertility requirements, and weed control must be achieved without synthetic herbicides. Our objective was to determine the crop yield and soil quality as affected by a transition from grass to dryland organic agriculture in the Central Great Plains of North America. This study evaluated three beef feedlot compost(BFC)treatments in 2010–2015 following biennial application rates: 0(control), 22.9, and 108.7 t ha~(-1) on two dryland organic cropping systems: a wheat(Triticum aestivum)-fallow(WF) rotation harvested for grain and a triticale(Triticosecale)/pea(Pisum sativum)-fallow(T/P-F) rotation harvested for forage. The triticale + pea biomass responded positively to the 108.7-t ha~(-1) BFC treatment, but not the 22.9-t ha~(-1) BFC treatment. The wheat biomass was not affected by BFC addition, but biomass N content increased.Beef feedlot compost input did not increase wheat grain yields, but had a positive effect on wheat grain Zn content. Soil total C and N contents increased with the rate of 108.7 t ha~(-1) BFC after three applications, but not with 22.9 t ha~(-1) BFC. Soil enzyme activities associated with N and C cycling responded positively to the 108.7-t ha~(-1) BFC treatment. Saturated salts were high in the soil receiving 108.7 t ha~(-1) of BFC, but did not affect crop yields. These results showed that BFC was effective in enhancing forage yields, wheat grain quality, and soil C and N, as well as specific microbial enzymes important for nutrient cycling. However, the large rates of BFC necessary to elicit these positive responses did not increase grain yields, and resulted in an excessive buildup of soil P.  相似文献

The effect of medium-term (5 years) application of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients (as mineral or inorganic fertilizers) on soil organic carbon (SOC), SOC stock, carbon (C) build-up rate, microbial and enzyme activities in flooded rice soils was tested in west coast of India. Compared to the application of vermicompost, glyricidia (Glyricidia maculate) (fresh) and eupatorium (Chromolaena adenophorum) (fresh) and dhaincha (Sesbania rostrata) (fresh), the application of farmyard manure (FYM) and combined application of paddy straw (dry) and water hyacinth (PsWh) (fresh) improved the SOC content significantly (p < 0.05). The lowest (p < 0.05) SOC content (0.81%) was observed in untreated control. The highest (p < 0.05) SOC stock (23.7 Mg C ha?1) was observed in FYM-treated plots followed by recommended dose of mineral fertilizer (RDF) (23.2 Mg C ha?1) and it was lowest (16.5 Mg C ha?1) in untreated control. Soil microbial biomass carbon (Cmb) (246 µg g?1 soil) and Cmb/SOC (1.92%) were highest (p < 0.05) in FYM-treated plot. The highest (p < 0.05) value of metabolic quotient (qCO2) was recorded under RDF (19.7 µg CO2-C g?1 Cmb h?1) and untreated control (19.6 µg CO2-C g?1 Cmb h?1). Application of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients impacted soil enzyme activities significantly (p < 0.05) with FYM causing highest dehydrogenase (20.5 µg TPF g?1 day?1), phosphatase (659 µg PNP g?1 h?1) and urease (0.29 µg urea g?1 h?1) activities. Application of organic source of nutrients especially FYM improved the microbial and enzyme activities in flooded and transplanted rice soils. Although the grain yield was higher with the application of RDF, but the use of FYM as an organic agricultural practice is more useful when efforts are intended to conserve more SOC and improved microbial activity.  相似文献

Soil organic carbon (SOC) pools are important for maintaining soil productivity and reducing the net CO2 loading of the atmosphere. An 18‐year old long‐term field experiment involving pearl millet‐cluster bean‐castor sequence was conducted on an Entisol in western India to examine the effects of chemical fertilizers and manuring on carbon pools in relation to crop productivity and C sequestration. The data showed that even the addition of 33.5 Mg ha−1 C inputs through crop residues as well as farm yard manure could not compensate the SOC depletion by oxidation and resulted in the net loss of 4.4 Mg C ha−1 in 18 years. The loss of SOC stock in the control was 12 Mg C ha−1. Conjunctive use of chemical fertilizers along with farm yard manure produced higher agronomic yields and reduced the rate of SOC depletion. The higher average seed yields of pearl millet (809 kg ha−1), cluster bean (576), and castor (827) over six cropping seasons were obtained through integrated use of fertilizers and manure. For every Mg increase in profile SOC stock, there was an overall increase of 0.46 Mg of crop yield, comprising increase in individual yield of pearl millet (0.17 Mg ha−1 y−1 Mg−1 SOC), cluster bean (0.14) and castor (0.15). The magnitude of SOC build up was proportional to the C inputs. Carbon pools were significantly correlated with SOC, which increased with application of organic amendments. Threshold C input of 3.3 Mg C ha−1 y−1 was needed to maintain the SOC stock even at the low antecedent level. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The study was based on data from selected long-term field trials established at the Experimental Fields of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad (Serbia). The effect of tillage systems on SOC concentration and SOC stock was most pronounced at 0–10 cm depth. In a 0–40 cm soil layer, in a 7-year period, no-till (NT) sequestrated 863 kg SOC ha?1 yr?1 more compared to moldboard plow tillage (PT), while the effects of disc tillage (DT) and chisel tillage (CT) were not significantly different. Unfertilized three-crop rotation (CSW) compared to two-crop rotation (CW) enhanced SOC storage in a 0–30 cm soil layer by 151 kg C ha?1 yr?1 in a 56-year period. Within fertilized treatments, SOC concentration was highest under continuous corn (CC). Mineral fertilization (F) non-significantly increased the SOC stock compared to no fertilization in corn monoculture in a 32-year period. The incorporation of mineral fertilizers and harvest residues (F + HR) and mineral fertilizers and farmyard manure (F + FYM) sequestered 195 and 435 kg C ha?1 yr?1 more than the unfertilized plot, respectively, in a 0–30 cm soil layer, in a 35-year period. Irrigation did not significantly affect SOC sequestration.  相似文献

A field experiment was conducted with the objectives to relate the changes in the physical properties, soil organic carbon (SOC), nutrient availability, and uptake and output input ratios for sustaining sugarcane ratoon growth and yield in an Udic ustochrept. Eight combinations of trash and farmyard manure (FYM) with and without Trichoderma viride and Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus were applied in two sugarcane ratoon (first and second ratoon in succession) crops. Application of Trichoderma-enriched trash showed the lowest bulk density (1.36 Mg m?3) and the greatest infiltration rate (4.5 mm h?1). Greater rate of increase in SOC was observed under inoculation of Trichoderma with FYM compared to trash mulch. The output/input ratios were greater in plots having trash-based treatments compared to FYM and inorganic fertilizers. Bioagent-inoculated FYM produced greater mean sugar yield (8.89 t ha?1) compared to bioagent-inoculated trash (7.97 t ha?1).  相似文献

A long-term field experiment (1984–2011), was conducted on a Calcic Haploxeralf from semi-arid central Spain to evaluate the combined effect of three treatments: farmyard manure (FYM), straw and control without organic amendments (WOA) and five increasing rates of mineral N on: (1) some energetic parameters of crop production, and (2) the effect of the different treatments on soil organic carbon (SOC) and total N stocks. Crop rotation included spring barley, wheat and sorghum. The energy balance variables considered were net energy produced (energy output minus energy input), the energy output/input ratio and energy productivity (crop yield per unit energy input). Results showed small differences between treatments. Total energy inputs varied from 9.86 GJ ha?1 year?1 (WOA) to 11.14 GJ ha?1 year?1 in the FYM system. For the three crops, total energy inputs increased with increasing rates of mineral N. Energy output was slightly lower in the WOA (33.40 GJ ha?1 year?1) than in the two organic systems (37.34 and 34.96 GJ ha?1 year?1 for FYM and straw respectively). Net energy followed a similar trend. At the end of the 27-year period, the stocks of SOC and total N had increased noticeably in the soil profile (0–30 cm) as a result of application of the two organic amendments. Most important SOC changes occurred in the FYM plots, with mean increases in the 0–10 cm depth, amounting an average of 9.9 Mg C ha?1 (667 kg C ha?1 year?1). Increases in N stocks in the top layer were similar under FYM and straw and ranged from 0.94 to 1.55 Mg N ha?1. By contrast, simultaneous addition of increasing rates of mineral N showed no significant effect on SOC and total N storage.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted in 2010 and 2011 at the Agricultural College of Shiraz University to evaluate the effects of cattle manure and nitrogen (N) fertilizers on soil properties such as soil organic carbon (SOC), soil organic nitrogen (SON), soil electrical conductivity, soil pH and corn yield under two tillage systems. Treatments included tillage systems in two levels as conventional tillage and reduced tillage as subplots, cattle manure (0, 25 and 50 tons ha?1) and N fertilizer (0, 125 and 250 kg N ha?1) as sub-subplots. Results showed that SOC and SON were significantly affected by tillage system in both years of the experiment. SOC and SON were higher in reduced tillage compared to conventional tillage. Tillage system had no significant effect on grain yield, plant height and 1000 seed weight. Increased cattle manure rates at 25 and 50 tons ha?1 increased grain yield by 27% and 38%, respectively, in 2010 and 25% and 25% in 2011. The results showed that application of cattle manure combined with N fertilizer might be an efficient management to increase soil productivity in southern Iran, in soils with poor organic content. Additionally, reduced tillage showed to be an efficient method to increase soil organic matter.  相似文献

Inorganic fertilizer-based nutrient management is the maintenance of soil fertility for sustaining increased crop productivity, but often at the cost of degrading soil health. This study was conducted to determine whether incorporation of organics in the conventional inorganic-based nutrient management practice on aromatic rice could sustain both fertility and soil organic carbon status on a silt loam Aeric Haplaquept. Addition of organic manure along with inorganic fertilizer could almost maintain organic carbon status of soil, while the treatment only with inorganic fertilizer registered a substantial decrease (6.58%) from its initial value. Among the treatment combinations, the treatment receiving 1 t ha?1 mustard cake and inorganic fertilizer @ N40P20K20 was the best, which registered the highest grain (3.01 t ha?1) and straw (5.32 t ha?1) yield of rice, highest nutrient uptake, and least decline in available N, P, and K status of soil. However, even the best treatment combination also was proved to be suboptimal in sustaining soil fertility.  相似文献
