Seaweeds known as “Mauro” are traditionally used fresh or to prepare omelettes in Sicily (Italy). Twenty samples sold in Catania between May 2005 and September 2007 were analyzed for Escherichia coli, Total Enterobacteria, Aeromonas spp., Pseudomonas spp., Vibrio spp., and Salmonella spp. Thirty Vibrio strains were examined for the presence of the virulence genes, toxR, toxRS, tl, tdh, and trh in the genomes of the isolates. Total Enterobacteria ranged between 2.23 and 6.85 log CFU/g, and in six samples, E. coli ranged between 0.70 and 2.74 log CFU/g. Aeromonas spp. was present in samples between 1.0 and 5.90 log CFU/g, while Pseudomonas spp. ranged between 2.70 and 7.27 log CFU/g. Vibrio spp. was present in 75% of samples at values between 1.30 and 4.60 log CFU/g. The most frequently isolated species was V. alginolyticus (76.66% of isolates), of which 82.60% were positive for toxR and the remaining 17.40% of strains were positive for toxRS. V. parahaemolyticus was identified in 13.33% of strains; all were positive for toxR and, in one case, for both toxR and toxRS. V. coralliitycus was isolated in 6.66% of strains (all positive for toxR), and one was identified as V. mimicus (positive for toxRS). The results of this study suggest that there is need for stringent quality control during harvesting and distribution of Mauro.

The enrichment functions of stem flow and root-induced preferential flow of bushwood are of great importance in the formation and growth and evolution of the fertile island of nebkha. It enhances the vegetation adaption to dry and infertile environment and the stability of ecosystem, thereby plays important eco-hydrological roles in plant reconstruction in desert regions. Making clear the temporal and spatial responses of shrubs to the changes of soil water content during the process of the nebkhas evolution, the maintaining mechanism of biodiversity, and the ecological adaption countermeasure of vegetation to soil water is the keys to further study the formation and evolution of nebkha. In this paper, the formation mechanism of nebkha was reviewed,soil hydrologic process and vegetation response during the nebkha evolution process and the influences of stem flow and root-induced preferential flow of shrubs on the soil fertile island were demonstrated, and the study methods of stem flow and root-induced preferential flow of shrubs were summarized as well. For better evaluating the function of stem flow to the stability of shrub communities and the development of ecosystems in desert regions, more attentions should be paid on the root distribution of shrubs and the movement and redistribution of water and nutrition along with preferential flow path caused by shrub roots in the future research. © 2019 China Agricultural University. 1. A study was made using a Light Sussex bantam hen to determine the allele present at the E locus. Conflicting results occurred on mating with different males suggesting the presence in one case of the dominant allele eWh and, in the other, of the recessive ey.

Further examination of these apparently conflicting results suggests the possibility that there may be a single gene producing the wheaten phenotype which appears to be dominant if melanin restriction genes are present at other loci, or recessive by interaction with melanin intensifier genes. The objective of this report is to review results of research and to discuss recommendations to achieve genetic improvement of claw quality. High claw quality is defined as a low susceptibility for claw disorders and a low need for footcare. The economic importance of claw problems is considerable, with about 25% of dairy cows treated per year. Direct effects are costs of trimming, veterinary costs and forced culling (2–3%). Indirect costs are decreased milk production or daily gain, lower fertility, decrease of herd life, and lower salvage value.Lameness problems are mainly localized in the claws and can have a traumatic, systemic or infectious origin. The claw quality is a product of claw shape, characteristics of the horn and anatomy of the inner structure of the claw. Environmental factors like housing systems, management and nutrition give considerable herd effects. Improvement of claw quality in the short term can be achieved by managemental procedures that will reduce foot and leg problems in confinement.Genetic improvement can give a contribution in the long term. Genetic variation in claw traits and claw disorders are recorded between and within breeds. Heritabilities and additive genetic variation for claw shape measurements (e.g. claw length, claw angle) are high enough to obtain genetic change in these traits. Claw measurements are partly symptoms but also predisposition factors for claw disorders like sole ulcers. Shorter and steeper hind leg claws are favourable predispositions.Veterinary records on claw and leg disorders after treatment yield very low heritabilities. Claw judgements should be replaced by more effective measurements because of low h2 and low correlation to claw disorders.Implementation of genetic improvement based on measurements of claw shape (angle, length) may start with a progeny test of 30–50 daughters in first lactation of the most promising A.I. bulls in milk production. Relationships of claw characteristics of young bulls with those of their parents and daughters is recommended for further analysis.  相似文献

Research indicates that some adult diseases including reproductive pathologies are programmed in utero during foetal development. In particular, maternal low dietary protein, during the most critical developmental periods of male foetal development, may have a detrimental impact on male fertility through direct and epigenetic mechanisms. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of a gestational low protein diet on fertility markers in male offspring in rats through a systematic review and meta-analysis. A systematic search using PubMed, and EMBASE databases was performed and two investigators independently screened the 1,703 prospective articles. Eleven articles met the eligibility criteria. Outcome measures were pooled using random-effects models and expressed as mean differences (MDs) at 95% CIs for each study. The results reveal significant reduction in testis weight (MD (mean difference) −0.08 g; −0.12, −0.42; p = .0001), epididymal sperm count (MD −35.34 × 106 cells; −52.15, −18.53; p = .0001), number of Sertoli cells (MD −7.27 × 106 (−13.92, −0.62; p = .03), testosterone (T) concentration (MD −0.29 ng/ml; −0.48, −0.09; p = .004) and luteinising hormone (LH) concentration (MD of −0.24 ng/ml; −0.45, 0.04; p = .02) in comparison with controls. In contrast, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentration (MD of 0.07 ng/ml; −0.16, 0.29; p = .56) was not significantly different from controls. We conclude that low gestational dietary protein maternal intake potentially negatively impacts fertility in male progeny later in life. The mechanisms of action responsible for these phenomena remain unclear.  相似文献

This review describes dietary fibres originating from a range of foods, particularly in relation to their plant cell walls.It explores the categorization of dietary fibres into "soluble" or "insoluble". It also emphasizes dietary fibre fermentability, in terms of describing how the gastro-intestinal tract(GIT) microbiota respond to a selection of fibres from these categories. Food is categorized into cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables. Mention is also made of example whole foods and why differences in physico-chemical characteristics between "purified" and "non-purified"food components are important in terms of health. Lastly, recommendations are made as to how dietary fibre could be classified differently, in relation to its functionality in terms of fermentability, rather than only its solubility.  相似文献
